there are two plays that i have a hard time stopping. I have a hard time stopping the post patterns through the middle of the field and i have a hard time stopping the stupid sweeps to the outside. I have Ronnie Lott at Safety, Tuggle as MLB, and two bronze DE's. anytime i suspect the pass through the middle i put Lott on double coverage with that certain receiver but Lott always seems to find his way towards the line even when i push him back in coverage. On the Run it doesnt matter how many defenders i put on the running back they all seem to get mixed up in the line and he still skates to the outside for 20+ yard gains...its getting annoying and im starting to get discouraged with this game. If i could get some help with those two things i think my skill would become much better..thanks for any positive answers in the future and sorry you didnt want to help if you reply to this bashing me..

Stopping outside run=4-4 Full Zone, 4-3 2 Hard

thanks awesome...is the 4-3 2 hard a good play for stopping the outside run or is that a play for a pass down the middle? Thanks again for the tips... Anyone else have any ideas?

Sweeps. It sets your OLBs in an outside position. My concern with that call is that your OLB is likely to get blocked up. Is there a particular side that you get beat on more often than not? Strong or weak?

Change Tuggle to OLB Greg Lloyd and drop one of your bronze DEs for a bronze OLB (Van Pelt). This will greatly improve your play against the edges as OLB are better against the outside run than bronze DEs.

After that play mostly 4-3 or 4-4 zone and either keep the LBs in stack formation (default) or use the line moves and shift them weakside or strongside depending where you think they'll be going.

I suggest a name change. Cuz every time I see your name I think USA Fart.
Thanks....

You can go with nickle defense and guess at which side he is running and run a blitz on that side....same with any defense actually.

For the pass down the middle go with dime and cover 3 defense, or if its a deep pass down the middle go with cover 4, you want to play zone coverage for middle passes, even then u might get burnt.

key zone will stop the pass in the middle. 3-4 with DB outside coverage will prevent them the sweeps.

Well first your setup is really bad..Its a waste to have 2 DE's maybe even 1..To stop the pass to the middle play a key zone and move some of your players zones around to cover the pass..Also to stop the outside run play a zone not man...Having middle linebackers are worthless b/c they get picked up by the FB or the olinemen..But if you have a DT they the LB can plug the hole..But Tuggle it to small..To have a good D you need 2 good corners, 2 OLB, 2 safeties..And maybe a dlinemen..Heres my most used setup..

Gold-

Ed Reed(big hit, coverage, run coverage, quick feet, closing speed)
Deion Sanders(quick feet, coverage, return spec., speed burner, closing speed)

Silver-

Ricky Watters
Joey Browner
Mel Renfro

Bronze-

Jim Harbaugh
Otis Wilson
Robert Brazile
Fred Marion
Rob Moore
Pete Metzelaars

key zone will not stop the pass up the middle, its broken.
Outside runs dont use 2 hard nor 44 fullzone Why? because once i notice you doing it on run downs im going deep with a reciever, just use gap left or right and control the olb yourself.

Skorge has it right for up the middle passes, but make sure you dont pick cover 3 all the time because if you pick strong or weak im going deep or passing up the middle behind the safety. Best thing to do is pick dime 3 2 and get the blitzing Linebacker to defend the middle yourself or zone him to the middle.

Hmmm some good advice 1st stopping the run starts at the line so with that being sais "line stunts are important" ie: Gap Left and Right (depending on the direction of the run. @nd play zone if you man up it tends to get guys out of position b/c the reaction time is a bit slower in zones your guys will stay in pos. 3rd. DE's are nice but I don't have any on any o my teams. 4th. incest in a second LB or 3rd and control the one on the side you think he's running too and over play it to force him back to your help (If you don't use Caps I'd suggest Van Pelt and LLyod at LB.

To guard the Deep Post I'd almost guarantee you're seeing it out of Kings Set with Deep Outs from the WR's, or a Quads formation. For this trouble assign the LB to the TE(Kings Set, and the DB for slot WR Quads). Play manual coverage and let your safeties help you out over the top, usually you can force a T.O. because alot of guys don't make reads they just throw it.:D
