MTSU will try to shake the stench of four straight losing seasons with a new coaching staff that promises dramatic changes on and off the field. First-year head coach Rick Stockstill will lead a new-look squad donning new uniforms on a new home playing surface and perhaps adopting a new style of play.
"We're going to change. We're not going to do what's been going on," says Stockstill, a former South Carolina and Clemson assistant. "I'm not a patient person. I know we've got some challenges ahead of us, but I'm committed, and I expect us to challenge and win games this year."
But an overnight turnaround will be easier said than done. Previous academic penalties cut MTSU's 2006 signing class nearly in half, and the 11 returning starters face a non-conference schedule featuring Oklahoma, Louisville, South Carolina and Maryland.
