PRESS CONFERENCE AT UNIVERISITY OF U.C. DAVIS
Coach Gary Stewert has suddenly resigned and taken a role working with T. Bennett back at the Washington State University where he had great success as a recruiter and assistant coach.
The U.C. Davis Aggies however wasted no time in contacting Coach Andy Akpan who was at Cal for a breif 2 weeks before being released do to a recruiting scandal and taking on a assistant role with Coach Dezaron at the University of Minnesota.
We go live to a phone call between the A.D. of Davis and Andy Akpan.
AD-So Andy as you see we have a opening here at Davis. We love what you did at Texas Southern and at Boise and were shocked with what happened at Cal but believe you were not the one in the wrong and would love to extend the chance for you to rejoin the head coaching ranks.
Akpan-Wow thankyou so much for the consideration, but I must say right now is not the best time for me. I am actually really enjoying Minnesota and helping Coach Dezaron. However I do know someone who would be perfect for your opening.
AD-Who is that?
Akpan-His name is Rakim Nash. You might remember him from his playing days at Boise State or maybe his short stint in the NBA.
AD-Nash is available? I thought he was still playing with the Cippers?
Akpan-No he tore his ACL and has never recovered. Coach Dezaron was going to offer him a assistant role with the Gophers next season, but to be honest I know he would be perfect for you guys.
AD-Thanks I will give him a call.
A few mins later..
Nash-Hello?
AD-Hey Rakim. Its the AD from UC Davis. Not sure if you heard but Coach Stewert resigned suddenly to take a posistion back at WSU and we are looking for a young head coach that can take us to the next level. I must be honest I contacted Coach Akpan 1st but he turned us down and gave me your name.
Nash-UC Davis. Wow. I wanted to get into coaching but I never thought a program like UC Davis would be available. I had talked to Coach Dezaron and he was going to make some calls for me. I must say I am shocked Andy turned you down.
AD-Yeah well I was too, but I am excited you are available. Sorry to hear about your injury you were just getting things going for the Clippers.
Nash-Yeah it was a heart breaker but I am ready to bring my game to the college level. When do you want me there?
AD-Can you be here tomorrow.?
Nash-No problem.
AD-Oh by the way do you nave any assistants in mind?
Nash-Actually I do. I saw what great success Andy had with having J. Granger one of the Horseman on his staff at Boise and I have kept in close contact with M. Hayes who is actually from Compton, so he has some California ties. Also Ron Dupree who backed me up at Bosie before transfering to UC Davis. I think he would be a great fit. He knows the school and the local area. He should be a great help in recruiting.
AD-Sweet. I am very exctied about the future of the Aggies.
Nash-I am too. I will see you tomorrow.

I started playing this on my 4 days off attending a wedding and am pretty excited about it so I decided to go ahead and post it. I actually just finished my 1st year. I will have Coach Nash bio along with Hayes and Dupree, schedules and rosters later today and I will be recapping the 1st year. I will start recapping game by game in year 2.

I can't believe nobody has started a legacy at UC Davis yet! I am somewhat familiar with that campus. I spent hours in their library working on a project when I was in high school. I almost went to UC Davis before I decided to go to UC Riverside. I would have started my legacy there but I would have had to play UCR every year and it just wouldn't feel right beating up on my alma mater.
I will be rooting against you when you play UCR and also when you play Sac State (cross-town rivals) but other than that I wish you luck.

I found it sorta amazing also. I had alot of free time late evenings at my parents and decided to start another closed legacy. I almost went east coast and went with Charleston South, but noticed nobody had ever really did UC Davis justice. They have a pretty decent roster and being in California recruiting is pretty easy.
Don't worry I plan on keeping Sac State on the schedule every year. In year 1 we play them late in the season for senior night. I sorta liked that. I also added San Jose State. :)

UC DAVIS MEDIA GUIDE 2007-08
Head Coach
Rakim Nash
Bio-1st year head coach. Orginally played high school basketball at Borah High school in Boise Idaho. He was the Mr Basketball from Idaho and signed to play with instate Boise State. A 4-yr starter at shooting guard for Coach Dezaron, he was also a teamate of Andy Akpan. He finished his career as the Boise State 3pt leader. He was drafted in the 2nd round by Portland but traded to the L.A. Clippers on draft day. Spent 4 yrs playing for the Clippers before suffering a ACL injury that ended his playing career. He brings a B offense knowledge and a C rating in Charisma.
Assistant Coaches
Mani Hayes
Bio-One of the orginal 4 horseman. Hayes was a JC transfer from Compton California.
He was a 2 yr starter at Boise and went undrafted out of college. Being 7'1 he headed over seas and played in the Italian league for 3 yrs before returning home to help with in-city youth programs. He brings a C+ offense knowledge and a C+ in Scouting.
Ron Dupree
Bio-Orginally signed at Boise State to play under Coach Dezaron. After 2 years of limited playing time he transfered to UC Davis, where he startted for 2 seasons avg over 10 pts a game. He was Rakim Nash's roomate in college for his 2 years at Boise. He brings a C- in offense knowledge and a B rating in Scouting.
ROSTER
STARTING LINEUP
PG-6'1 JR D. CARTER(59)
Bio-Has decent speed and court awareness.
SG-6'3 JR V. OLIVER(72)
Bio-The best overall player the Aggies have. He is a team leader and will be looked to score alot of the Aggies points this year.
SF-6'8 FR A. MALIK(58)
Bio-Decent #'s across the board, has good size for a 3 and should create some mismatch problems.
PF-6'9 JR J. LOPEZ-LOW(59)
Bio-Good rebounder and decent quickness for a bigman. He has the potential to put up double doubles on any given night.
C-7'2 JR. M. BOONE(53)
Bio-Horrible speed, might not be able to stay in Coach Nash starting lineup for long unless he can show the ability to get down the court. However his 7'2 body gives the Aggies something not alot of other Big West teams have.
RESERVES
SG- 6'4 JR N. CLARK (57)
Bio-A JC Transfer in his 1st year with the Aggies. He did lead his JC team in 3pt made and attempts. His 85 3pt rating gives Coach Nash the 3pt bomber he loves. Look for him to play major mins.
SF-6'7 SO S. HANSON(57)
Bio-Another big SF who might challenge the Freshman Malik for P.T. Has decent # including a 71 3pt rating.
SG-6'7 RS FR M. PAYNE(54)
Bio-Doesn't wow anybody his # but is a big body that will get playing time at both guard spots as well as SF at times.
SF-6'8 RS JR K. BRUCCULERI(53)
Bio-Should see time backing up Lopez-Low at the 4. Has decent 3pt range(71) for a bigman.
PF-6'9 RS SO D. CALEGARI(53)
Bio-A walkon who will backup up Lopez-Low and Boone. Doesn't bring very good # but like Bruc he can shoot the 3pt(71)
REDSHIRTS
PG- 6'3 SO T. LOWENTHAL(63)(T)
Bio-Played for the University of Hawaii last season transfered to UC Davis to play for Coach Stewert but promised Coach Nash he would stay.. Look for him to challenge for the starting PG spot with Carter next season after he sits out a year.
SF- 6'8 SO J. HARDEN(60)(T)
Bio-Orginally signed with Norte Dame. Saw very limited P.T. and decided to transfer back closer to home. He has decent # overall and will probably challenge for the starting role next season at the 3 or 4.
Coach Nash take on the Aggies team-"Overall I really like them. We have great size and good 3pt shooters. I look to Oliver to lead the team, Clark to probably finish 2nd in pts and lead the team in 3pt shots and %. Lopez-Low will probably lead our team in rebounding and be a nice post player, especially if Boone can draw some double teams. I am disappointed to have only 2 scholarships to offer but its also nice because there is not a single senior on the team and Lowenthal and Harden is like have 2 players already signed. This will give me 2 years to really scout the right guys that can take this team to the next level.

I've done a legacy with UC Davis before and just to tell you, you probably already found this out, but Oliver is unstoppable once he makes a few shots. Also, by his JR year, Malik turns into a beast if he comes along well. And the Big West is always wide open, so its agreat conference to start with. I'll be following.

Good to know. I have to say I was impressed with the 1st season. Didn't accomplish everything I wanted but looking forward to year 2

COACH NASH AND THE AGGIES HAVE GREAT SUCCESS IN YEAR 1
The Aggies just missed going to the dance in year 1 losing the conference championship on a last second shot to Cal State Northridge and also just missed getting Coach Nash his 20th victory finishing the year at 19-12.
Coach Nash did however complete a few of his goals. The Aggies pulled out wins over Fresno State,San Jose State and Sacremento State on senior night as well as sweeping the UC Riverside Highlanders. They also had great success in recruiting landing 2 3* players both high school teamates
Quentin Cobb a 6'9 Center rated #424/38 out of Compton CA
Julian Valdez a 6'8 PF ranked #427/95 also out of Compton CA
The Aggies also finished 3rd in the Big West going 10-6 in conference play finishing 3rd in the league giving them hope for next season with all players returning.
V. Oliver finished the year avg 17 pts a game but still was left of both 1st team and 2nd team all conference. However A. Malik avging 8.8 pts and 6.8 rebounds did win the Big West Freshman of the year award. Giving the Aggies great hope for the future.
With year 1 over. Coach Nash and the Aggies are excited to start season 2. There is great hope for this vetern team. Coach Nash will have his hands full with 6 scholarships to offer.

I know. The problem was I was down at my parents and had some free time in the late evenings so I was bored. Nobody has done a UC Davis legacy everyone either starts at UC Riverside or Sac State in the West. I plan to buy MLB2k8 this week but I am hoping the excitement of the Aggies will keep me posting. I though Coach Dezaron return would do it but I just havn't been able to get into it as much as I had hoped. Sorta like you leaving your Syracuse Legacy and Arizona State to do the player lock with Flynn. :)

I was thinking someone had a UC Davis legacy going on when I started mine. I don't remember who offhand, but recall including them in my legacy write-ups (as how they were so "well-coached"

i had one with UC Davis but didn't post it, and Deuce on your write-ups, where you should put commas you're putting periods. It's like this: I washed my hands. So now they are clean. I made my bed. So now it is neat. I'm mad. Because I failed my test. IT's really confusing

Well I only saw 1 person start a UC Davis legacy and he didn't even last through like 4 games before it disappeared.
I really like the Aggies roster. They had some decent size and 3pt shooter which is what I need for my uptempo offense.

Not that to many should care, but Coach Nash career was short lived. He died in the car ride home last weekend. It was fun well it lasted.
