View Full Version : Make the umpire more strict on strikes?

Is there a setting to make the home plate ump more strict on his strike calls? It seems like any thing even remotely close is often called a strike.

It also seems that the umpire consistency varies from game to game, which is realistic, but I'd like to make the umps always more strict if possible, because it's hard enough to get the AI to throw anything but strikes as it is.

I love the umpires strike zones. I wouldn't change that. Actually variety is a great thing. You won't see a pitch that is 10 inches from the plate called a strike and you wont see a pitch thats 5 inches in the zone called a ball. You have to live with and keep hitting your spots and the game may start giving you the call.

I maybe buggin but I think the homeplate umpire changes from the 4 that are listed. I'm not to sure though.

I don't mind the calls, eventhough it gets frustrating when they calls ball almost fully out of the zone strikes, especially when it's against me as I hardly ever get balls even with the sliders.

Only thing that needs to be done is cpu pitchers needs to pitch more balls instead of 80-90% strikes.

Whenever the commentators say "Let's take a look at today's umpires.....", you can see their names.

I agree with the whole, I wish the CPU would throw more balls in general. Even with my sliders all set to Zero it's always ~90% strikes. I played an inter-league exhibition game as the Braves versus the BoSox. And Wakefield threw 13 balls on 88 total pitches w/ my sliders at 0. ....Give me an 'effin break...

But I do like the varied strike zones. I actually try and pay to attention to the names of umps behind home plate, and learn which ones have tighter K zones.

Remember, looser strike zones work to your advantage too. For Example, in my BoSox chise, when I get a loose strike zone with Tavarez or Wakefield, I just keep 'em low outta the zone, get loose calls hopefully, and a lotta ground outs. No point in putting in the zone, if the ump's gunna give you the calls.

It does suck though to see one out of the zone indicator get called on you, especially a looking strike 3. But that's part of baseball, so I'm all for it!

Man, I just wish the CPU would thrwo more strikes in general.

And that they would steal...you know once a season even....
