Josh McRoberts leaves and New Faces Arrive

After a heart-breaking loss to the Virginia Commonwealth Rams in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, Josh McRoberts decided that he was ready to go to the NBA. Coach K was not shocked by the descision cause he knew McRoberts was a star from the start.

Now more people have come. Here are the new freshmans on campus.

Kyle Singler #12
Four-year letterwinner at South Medford High School ... led the Panthers to a record of 110-10 over four years ... the sixth-leading scorer in Oregon state history with 2,207 points ... named 2007 Oregonian Class 6A Co-Player of the Year ... two-time first team all-state selection ... two-time Southern Oregon Conference player of the year ... three-time SOC first team all-conference and first team all-defense pick ... averaged 29.3 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game during his senior season

Nolan Smith #2
Four-year letterwinner and two-year captain at Oak Hill Academy ... played the nation’s most challenging schedule at top-ranked Oak Hill ... had career highs of 52 points, 12 rebounds, 16 assists and eight steals ... averaged 22.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.2 steals per game as a senior ... shot .650 from the floor, .780 from the foul line and shot .330 from behind the arc in 2007 ... led his team to a 40-1 record as a senior, tying the school’s single season wins record and helping Oak Hill earn the top spot in the final USA Today 2007 Super 25 national rankings

Four-year letterwinner at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif. ... set the Orange County career scoring record ... fifth player in California history to score 3,000 points ... over his four year career, scored a total of 3,214 points and grabbed 1,224 rebounds ... fourth all-time on California scoring list ... made over 300 career three-pointers ... three-time all-state and all-county selection ... four-time first team all-league and three-time Serra League MVP ... named California’s Mr. Basketball as a senior, while averaging 26.7 points and 10.9 rebounds per game

1st Half Recap
The game started out back and forth for both teams. Greg Paulus nailed 2 three's in 2 mins. While Justin Hawkins was cold from the field but Jonathan Gibson helped him out with 6 points. But ariund the 10:03 mark, Duke flew ahead by 15 with some help from freshman Kyle Singler. DeMarcus Nelson got in 7 points by halfimte while Gerald Henderson got 6 pts.

2nd Half Recap
New Mexico St. came out on fire but Duke kept scoring as well with Greg Paulus and DeMarcus Nelson leading the way for the Dukies. Brian Zoubek came alive in the 2nd Half. Jon Scheyer and the rest of the bench got in some productive mins and pts. Scheyer finished with 8 pts. Duke played spread offense for most of the 2nd Half and kept scoring.
