In my patch information, I did not speak much about the online issues. I will open up the forum here for some discussion on the patch and everything online. It goes without saying that the framerate issue will smooth out the online play a little and a lot of the rest of the problems will be attributed to usual server lag. But I will try my best to keep an eye on this forum, please keep the information relevant to the head description.

Is there going to be anything actually done to the servers to help? How bad will the lag actually be once the patch is out?

Any information on what seems to be a problem with the 2K servers being down often? Seems every time I try and get online there's a problem with the servers and my card collection ends up being diminished.

for me its the lag / framerate issues. having to swing when the ball is still in hand is not fun at all. Same for pitching, having to judge how much lead you have to have on when to release the stick. Unplayable at this point.

March 18th, 2008, 12:26 PM
The lag and the patch are two different things. Think of the game being smoothed out by the alleviated framerate issue offline and just translate that change to online. From what I have heard on the boards and from my experience playing the game, the lag has been much better the last week. I'd attribute this to more freedom on the servers. Now the servers are not being changed until the release of the new 2K website at the earliest. It is my understanding that the glitch where you can pitch before the cut scene is completed will be taken care of by the framerate issue. That should help a lot in online games against the likes of Justin Verlander, etc.

What's being done about the random game freezing?
2K Admin Ron
March 18th, 2008, 12:32 PM
I have heard about this random game freezing problem. First of all, I'd say let's see what the patch does. Secondly, I have yet to have a game freeze up on me and I have both a new system and game. Honestly, try leaving your system horizontal so it heats up slower.
mac2154
March 18th, 2008, 12:35 PM
Leaving the system horizontal DID really stop the game from freezing on me, and turning the system off for a few minutes in between playing games allows for it to cool off.
Will the patch help with the lag inbetween cut scenes, inning changes, or when the player comes to bat?
2K Admin Ron
March 18th, 2008, 12:36 PM
It is my understanding that those were among the framerate issues.

Ronnie, After the patch, will you guys be opening up the Web support so that we can do online leagues and fantasy drafts? This is one of the main reasons that I bought this game, because of 2ksports great online league support.
Right now there are no websites.

Well my statement first is, Online in 2k7 went pretty well lag wise, like, it was playable and very much so enjoyable.
2k8 on the other hand, Swinging when the pitch is coming out at that moment isnt very realistic, gives no time to determine balls/strikes. Also pitching wise i have to release way before than offline, and going back and forth from both gets annoying but takes a few minutes to get used to the other.
Anyways, my question is, how come 2k8 isnt running like 2k7 (i know theres new features which i have to say are really great upgrades) batting wise its alot different, why? I.E. in 2k7 i was able to determine a ball and a strike and all of that good stuff.
2K Admin Ron
March 18th, 2008, 12:46 PM
A big part of the reason was the new features that you like. It's not that we wouldn't do it the same exact way again with all the cool things we've added to this game, but the initial problem as I understand it is that the game accesses VIP a lot more often and with a lot more information every batter which creates some of the problems you talk about. I love the cards feature but, just like most new creations, it needs to be smoothed down.

Good point, unfortunately he didn't answer you. Why did you guys change the batter perspective. It was near perfect last year, hence being able to see whether the pitch would be a ball or strike (potentially). If it worked, we're asking why it was changed?

Well, my game has frozen on me a few times, and my copy of the game is only a week old and the system itself is brand new since they had to send me a new one after the red ring of death. They sent me an entirely new system so the freezing issues have to be related to the game. Maybe it has to do with the frame rate issue. I don't know, maybe it's just me, I don't know too much about this stuff, but it could be related.
I know this is unrelated but I saw something on pastapadre.com that said that MLB '08: The Show will be getting a roster update every week. If they can do it, can't 2k do it for us too? They already had the most up to date rosters I have ever seen in a sports game at release, and now they're going to be releasing weekly updates....Our rosters were not even remotely close to the level that theirs were and they even had all the correct pictures for each player on their new teams. I wanted to know how often we would be getting roster updates and would they just be players to new teams, or if they would include position switches, jersey numbers, and ratings updates?

Its alot easier for the show to put updates...since the game is made by sony...2k has to get the updates approved by mircosoft and sony first...in other words its a longer process for 2k.

I know you all are used to being told that someone else is to blame but when it comes through patches being tested, that's done at the Microsoft/Sony offices and is out of our control. It is my understanding that if it runs through without any unforeseeable hiccups it could be within the next week. But it could always not be approved and sent back to our office which is not likely at this time.
As far as the batter perspective, a lot of things are changed to get a system that is perfect for everyone. I wanted to kinda discuss this in an overarching form but I'd argue that other companies get to a "comfortable" system and then send out the same stale game every year. To be honest, the first couple days here, it seemed like everyone hated the new pitching mechanic but it seems that those have become a huge favorite. There was a reason the batting was changed, hopefully people master it soon.

March 18th, 2008, 01:04 PM
The main issue that many are running into online is the delay in hitting in pitching. The controls are not responsive, making it necessary to swing too early and release the total pitch controls too early. You are forced to release in anticipation of the delay, rather than the actual idea behind the controls.
2K Admin Ron
March 18th, 2008, 01:07 PM
MLB Legend took the words right out of my mouth. It is impossible for us to get approval from both companies in that weekly timeframe. I have heard around the office that an update is the current project and that a roster update should be up right around the beginning of the season when roster cuts are made around the league. Do not hold me to that though.

First of all Ronnie, and I can't believe I am the 1st one to say this...Thank you for your responses. Seems to me, with a little patience we all will enjoy this game. As for the online gameplay, it seems to me when I put in 2K7, I get a ton of people with 5 green bars (as I have Road Runner Turbo), but when I go here I rarely see all green. Is there anyway to exclude the cards or VIPs, all while keeping profile info to keep those connections all green.
2nd, have the lobby rooms been fixed so we can play ranked games in the lobbies. If I could choose to play a lobby game instead of a quick match game, I would feel much better. Again thanks for answering all these questions.

2K8 offers Default/D zoom, Wide/W zoom and Tight/T Zoom. If you were to compare 2K8's batting cams to MLB 2k7 then may I suggest to setting it to Tight. It's almost identicle to your view from last year.

ok...the question that I do not think is being anwered is...
Will the reaction time for a batter to swing at a pitch be the same online...as it is offline...once the patch is in? Yes or No
Also the graphics are just not as sharp as 2k7, (as well as almost unreadable menus), will these issues also be fixed with the upcoming patch?

vhschola, your welcome. I am sorry that it took so long for you guys to have a presence and as I said I will try to get answers whenever I can. We want to be able to give the entire online experience for all our features in time so that the online experience is both fun/refreshing and functional. We're getting there! We'are also working on the online lobbies/leagues. One think about ranking is we are trying to get a system in place that will keep people from playing the same person over and over to acheive ranking. And your disclaimer at the end to the other users was right on the money, I didn't want this to turn into a Q&A but am happy to as long as the posts continue as such.
lefty, that's not a simple yes or no question. The framerate will improve play completely. To say that'll fix the server-side stuff and make every online game just like an offline game would be irrational for me to guarantee. I assume things will be better and their will be potential for online games to equate to offline games more often, but that will not always be the case. As far as the graphics, I know there was an emphasis put this year on gameplay and features and to improve some of the issues from laste year, some graphical elements were simplified (I totally agree on the menus, it'll be something looked at for next year). But no, graphical/menu stuff will probably not be fixed with a patch since a lot of that is hard-coded. There are postings about what a patch has power in doing, as it can't change certain parts of code. Hope this helps.

First, I would like to say....DQBell, that is the greatest cover a videogame could ever have!!! Dan Marino on a video game cover...man, I would buy that game even if it were horrible just because Dan the Man is on the cover!!!!
Anyway, Ronnie, it's good to hear about the pictures update with the rosters, I was really hoping for that. Also, the only issue I have with lag is that issue in between innings, cutscenes and the "freeze" between the batter stepping up and the gameplay. I love the game play itself and once all that is ironed out, I think this game will run so smoothly. Hopefully it won't freeze on me anymore though. Maybe the frame rate issue will take care of that. Thanks for all the info Ronnie!

Ronnie....I forgot to ask about this. Will the lag and frame rate fix alleviate the issues with custom music? It is pretty much the same problem as the in between innings and highlights, batter cutscenes issue. It stalls the game for a second or two. Is that an issue that the frame rate fix will address?

Can you be as specific as possible? I would have to try to duplicate it in the game. Thanks.
OK, well add a "stadium beat"....let's say a specific song for when your home team hits a home run, or for in between innings. I personally added the Fox Baseball song for my pregame and postgame stuff, and a song called "Drop the Bombshell" for HRs because those are the only 2 moments I can bear to stand the stall. It is the same as the lag and stuttering we experience during the cutscenes and in between innings highlights. Put a custom song for your home team hitters and right before the song plays, the game will kind of freeze frame for a second I guess to load the song. Try it, and then let me know if that's also a part of the same frame rate issue that causes all the other slow downs and stutters in the fluidity of the presentation. Thanks a lot for all the time you have been putting into helping us.

Hi Ronnie, glad to see we're getting answers! I specifically wondered why Jeanne Zelasko and Steve Physioc can't complete what they're saying in the intro to the games. They don't start talking until like the photos of the pitchers show up. Last year there was a blimp shown while they were talking. This allowed Joe Morgan, etc. to say their stuff completely before the first pitch. Is this going to be addressed?
Also, at the end of the game in the post show or whatever, it keeps pausing the audio and the logo transitions during the highlight replays... it's like it wants to get unstuck or something. Thank you!

Your first problem, I haven't had that problem when I don't press start to cut them off. Anyone else experienced this? Your second problem, this is kinda the framerate issue that people are talking about affected by a ton of transfer post-game to VIP. The patch is supposed to cut down what is sent to VIP so I assume this problem will be alleviated. We'll have to see to be sure though.

Since no one here has asked the obvious questions, I will ask them
1. Who is this Ronnie person? Are you just a moderator or are you a game designer?
2. Even if you sign out of your VIP, there is still a 3 second pause anytime you skip a cutscene so is this likely not going to be fixed?
3. You spoke about 2k using new servers around the time they update their web site. When is this likely to occur and could this elleviate the button delay that makes online unplayable?

Thanks ronnie again for your answers and your time. I know this isnt a huge problem but quite annoying and yet funny at the same time. Why do the announcers call my players by pther teammates names? I had Matt Kemp get a triple and he called him Nomar lol Alos I have a fantasy league that I did a draft in and I drafted Carl Crawford to my Dodgers team and everytime he hits a homerun they talk about how Adrian Beltre found his power some years ago. I'm sure these things cant be fixed, but maybe the calling players wrong names is due to Cards and VIP? Only problems I have with online really are the usual delay in swing it just isnt smooth. Pitching isnt really too much of a problem for me.
Just want to thank you again. I really hope the online gets fixed to be playable like last years I really enjoy leagues and playing with friends and none of which will touch online right now. :(

3) A lot is going to change with the new web site. I do not have this problem until later on in the game when it seems like VIP is sending a lot more information. I think the pause is related to the data sent which would be cleared up in this patch, but it's part of the test and if that's not what they're looking for, then that won't be fixed. That part, we'll have to wait and see if it was VIP related or not.

Please delve into the button delay more as I don't know as to what you are referring.
If you play this game online, it's impossible to accurately use the new pitching meter with the button delay, and when hitting, you have to swing before the ball leaves the pitchers hands, sometimes when they throw a fastball and you try to swing, the delay is so bad the batter won't even get a swing off. This occurs even when your opponent's ping is all green.

I can't receive trades from friends when trying to trade cards. Ronnie, this issue also needs to be looked at. Whenever I receive a trade, it isn't from my friends and it doesn't list it properly anyway. I'll get one trade, accept or reject it then another trade pops up. Why wasnt this trade listed when I originally opened up "pending trades?" It doesn't matter if the same cards were involved in the first trade or not either. It doesn't list all oncoming offers . . .

I know exactly what you are referring to. I was surprised to see this in the game as last year I felt the cutscenes were terrific. This year, it doesn't fade or anything. For instance, it'll show a closeup of the batter, with a stats overlay, and then freeze. You are then abruptly returned to the game. Again, I was so surprised to see this in this game as last year I thought was one of the best sports game I've seen in a while (as far as presentation goes).

Hey what about gameplay issues? I assume that is hard-coded stuff, right?
I had a player on the computer controlled team step up to the plate and had no face!
Just a white area in place of a face. I had a rain delay turn into a rain-out then went back to schedule and had to play the game at the same time.
Meaning, it was the last game of 3 game series and should have been played later in the schedule.

Yes that is very frustrating. The fact that so many people have every card and doubles of most makes the card battles useless. I have like 80 cards and it makes it really hard to trade with someone who has everything already.
I agree. They need to just wipe everyone's card album along with online ranked player games (records that is). Clean fresh start is needed.

Yea that would suck if I had to lose the uniforms I've tried to unlock but a fresh start might be the only way to go.

I just found another issue I have with trading cards and Im not sure its what others were talking about. If you try and trade a card that is on your card team it tells you that you already have one of that player on your team. Obviously this is wrong because im just trying to trade him to someone else. So I have to go all the way back to the main menu and remove him from my team and then go back in find the person with the card I wanted to trade with and trade my duplicate and then go back and place that player back on my team...frustrating :)

PLEASE try to refrain from asking questions which have already been asked and/or answered as that will allow for a more smoother flow on information moving forward in this thread and also PLEASE try to stay on topic and not stray off into other issues/subjects(that usually result in arguements and opinions which ultimately lead to the thread being locked/closed) that just dont belong in this thread. I have been a long time reader of these forums and decided to register now that there is someone here to address the masses in regards to MLB 2k8. All of my questions have been answered by simply READING EACH AND EVERY PAGE OF THIS THREAD which I suggest people do because chances are your question has probably already been answered in previous pages. Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions Ronnie. Its greatly appreciated.
Edit: It seems that a good portion of the issues(frame rate, pauses, delays, commentary not in sync with game, etc etc) that most people are suffering are related to the games VIP data transfer so im assuming(and hoping) that this patch will fix or at least alleviate alot of inconsistencies that people are experiencing.

glad to see another mod on the boards other than BL...
ronnie u probably cant answer this but ill ask anyway - As u said they are testing the websites.... and obviously they are working on this patch which as u said they are 2 seperate things, what's more likely to come first? the websites or the patch? or u gonna try and get them both out around the same time
I would say that the patch is more likely to come out slightly earlier since we sent them to testing before the websites. Having said that, the patch could be declined while the websites not and the websites would come first. We are trying to get them out to you as quickly as possible.

Yes we are aware. I would rather not comment on this besides to refer to my postings that have said that I would not like this discussed on 2K sports boards. Glitch cheats discussions will not be tolerated here.

Ronnie, could you comment on the "new 2K site?" Will there be a new style to it, or are you simply saying things will be tweaked?
The site will have a completely new style to it. I am excited for when it happens (though it is down the road).

WILD CARD ISSUE,
It seems if i play a Francise game with sliders adjusted to custom all-star, i do not earn ANY wild cards. I have played 15 games and not earned any wildcards, but i soon as i switched to pro difficulty, the first game i played i earned 2 wild cards. Might need looking into.
That is not an issue, but rather done purposefully. We want to give cards in equal situations and with sliders, you'll get away from that (you turn cpu hitting to 0, and get a no hitter, that'd be a little simple right?). However, it is not impossible for you to earn a card with custom sliders. Look around the boards and you'll see that.

In another thread on this forum it's been brought up about a Yankees Triple A roster issue. Your response was to the effect that this issue was discovered post release of the patch and it would get addressed in another round (ie another patch?). First, I assume when you say release you mean sent to Microsoft as I haven't seen anything stating is ready for download. Secondly, I assume it's feasible to think that there are a multitude of these bugs out there relating to line-ups that have yet to be idenfitied, from what I know from being around this forum only the Yankees Triple A and the Padres franchise have been identified. Do you know from a forward planning standpoint if 2K's stance would be to patch these things on a one off basis as they arise once they get the first patch (maybe 2nd too), which would be the most significant one, out of the way?

Hey what about gameplay issues? I assume that is hard-coded stuff, right?
I had a player on the computer controlled team step up to the plate and had no face!
Just a white area in place of a face. I had a rain delay turn into a rain-out then went back to schedule and had to play the game at the same time.
Meaning, it was the last game of 3 game series and should have been played later in the schedule.
This is the first time I have heard about the face problem. Post it publicly and see if anyone else has run into this. Was the rain-out before the 5th inning? A rescheduled game being incorporated is probably a hard code issue and will have to be looked at for next year I assume. But they probably wanted to give you a 162 game schedule to make up for this lack of coding so they rescheduled it the same.

So make it that you cant get Wild Card with Custom-R settings. Make it Custom-P or above, this is a sim title and simple fact that the computer wont throw you balls on ANY default difficulty setting it need to be changed. Either that or make the game play realistically on default settings. I think we'd all be happy with that.

These are the ones that the office is aware of. If more are reported, they will be taken care of accordingly. I have been running through the teams and have not come across any others. Honestly, people call in and post on these boards enough that we should be running thin of these bugs. Yes, when I say release, I mean to Microsoft. And most patches are for a bulk of changes. The process is long so we tend to want to make it worth it.

Great thanks. I would agree that with the number of people who play the game and post on this forum you should get a pretty good handle on what is awry and needs fixed.
I guess what I was getting at regarding future patches is say a month or two down the road something is identified within the Royals (might take longer as I can't see anyone actually playing with them, ha!). Then consider that there aren't any other issues in the pipeline, is 2K's stance to go ahead and patch the Royals or just sit on it as it's not cost effective to devote the time/resources to one issue?

Why? I didn't ask a quesion. I merely made a statement of my opinion. Are you going to black out opinions that don't praise the game? Wow. At first I was like, great they finally are going to answer questions, but it is obvious 2K just sent someone else over to the forums to stall and give rhetoric.
Again, I like the gameplay, but this game was not sent out as a finished product by anyone's definition of the word but your company's.
Honestly start a new thread. This is supposed to be more of a Q&A place for everyone. And what you said about sliders not giving cards was wrong so I was deleting misinformation. Your post was still in my quote so if I didn't want you to say that, I wouldn't have quoted. I will be deleting your recent post to save space. Thanks.

I asked in another thread (actually I started it only to have it locked down, not sure why) if 2K would consider a comprehensive manual in .pdf format for download as I think many would agree that what we got is not necessarily complete/comprehensive, any chance of this? Only reason I ask is (A) either I don't find what I need via the "in game tips" or (B) it gets cumbersome to always come to this forum and surf through a multitude of posts to find what I need. A simple yes or no would suffice. Thanks.

There is not one planned at this time. That is subject to change. Having said that, please look at the in-game tips and try the in-game tutorials. I have seen the bright white face twice. Both times it was the pitcher though. There are also times in some stadiums where there are these flashing circles of light above the batters box that are surely not supposed to be there. They are not quite bad enough to distract my attention but just more of an annoyance.
The white face thing is the kind of acceptable now and then (very rare in my experience) glitch that I don't worry about, but I have seen it.

Ronnie - first off let me say it's great to have someone from 2K active on the board, it makes a huge difference
Secondly - I hope they pay you well - LOL
Issue Question - the Legend/HOF cards that many websites reported were available for unlocking, along with their requirements. There have been many posts on this topic - they DON'T unlock when those requirements are acheived
Is that a bug, or has 2K not unlocked those yet for play?
Sorry if this has been answered elsewhere

Well here's a question that hasn't come up yet but will once the leagues site comes on-line.
Question:
Will there be a way to view someones profile from the users list that is posted within on-line leagues?
Not the web-site, but within the game itself.
2K7 allowed users the ability to look up other users in their league and send out friend invites.
In 2K8 users have to memorize names and add them to their friends list using the xbox live tab.
Thanks for your time.

The teleportation happens more than just in the field of play as well. In the shots of the dugout it will show the bench players sitting on the bench and then all the sudden the manager will appear on the screen. I have seen this happen more times to me than the pitcher teleporting to first base.
Also, this has happened to me about 3 times and wasn't really explained early on. In franchise my game has froze in the 8th inning. When this happens all the players just stop moving on the screen of whatever video shot is being shown. You can still pause the game and do everything, but you can not advance to the next batter, you just watch the player that caught that out on the screen. I have let it sit there for 5 mins hoping that it would unfreeze but it never did. The worst case of this happening to me was after playing 3 games straight without saving. I am not used to saving after each franchise game and it came back to bite me.

Ok here's one for you. I set my pitching rotation with a long reliever (Brandon Backe) who is actually a starter.
He was injured for 1 day with a strained something or other k?
He was healthy the next day and when I went to correct my rotation he was gone.
I saw him on my roster but not in the pitching rotation screen.
I let the computer set my rotation and he was back in my bullpen as long reliever........

i have a question, im not sure if u were aware of this in last years game but making trades via league was shall we say a pain.
u couldnt make any trades via the website without resetting all sliders to 0 so the only way u could do any trades was through xbl and u could only do a trade that was pitcher for pitcher or outfielder for outfielder, u couldnt mix it up
will this be a problem this year?

Adding new items this year isn't enough if it doesn't work right; am I not correct.

Let me make a warning: DO NOT start a flame war here as this is not really the point of this thread. However, I will indulge you with an answer as long as no responds in this thread. Consider Q/A time over if people respond in this thread about this post. Start a new one if you want to analyze/discuss my thoughts. I hope you all appreciate my honesty as this is strictly my opinion as a gamer.
Things aren't as simple as "why wasn't the game tested". To be honest, a game's release date is set based on several variables (hope you can decipher those on your own). In an attempt to not bring out a stale game, we definitely tried to add a ton of features, most of which have been a success. But as it gets close to an unbendable release date, many of these features come out "incomplete" as you guys are suggesting. I don't agree with the word incomplete, I'd say that some things are unpolished. Many games are released (and I am not saying that was the case here, though it's possible) with an eye towards patches. You guys have made this thing about how a game should be simpler if it can't be complete. That's totally unreasonable. We could go back to the NES days and make it 8-bit and blocky and not have problems because there's code already in place for that game. But we focused on gameplay and tried to make this more simulator based. As a consumer, you want things to be added even if they aren't unpolished because AT LEAST they exist to be worked on whether in a patch or future edition. I hope that this makes an impact on some of you brighter users.

I have to admit, I originally was one of people thinking that now that the game is out, it would be harder to get you guys to fix things with everything that is going on with your company, so it is nice to know that is not the case.
I love the game. The only issues I have are already being addressed. The freezing up during a franchise game and the online lag issue.
So thank you and your team for addressing these issues.
I do want to mention, to people like phalanx13, dont be an idiot.
Ronnie just explained 3 posts before yours about the testing. I work for a company that writes our software in house, so I understand what he is saying. Once a release date is set, there are times that it may be out of 2K's hands and they cannot change this date. So they do what they can to make the game playable by that date and then release patches to fix the issues.
The game may not have been done on time for many reasons. 1 could be that they added and changed so many things in this years version that it caused many long hours of coding changes. 1 could be that 2K makes more than 1 game a year, so I am sure there are times that programmers get pulled into working on other projects and it is all based on priority.
So relax, you paid $60 for a game, that in a couple more weeks, will be the best baseball game that you have ever played to date.
And to others out there, read through the forum, it only takes like 10 minutes to read through the 12 pages of posts. Stop asking the same things over and over again. And as someone else stated, keep your posts to the facts and stop nit-picking. Let's give Ronnie the major stuff that needs to get fixed to make the game playable, then once the big stuff is fixed, we can talk about the little things to make it perfect.

You must have a way different demo than the one I am playing. I was about to the point where I thought the demo was worse than the retail version I took back. There are serious issues with the demo as well. I have tried to read many of the post, but I am sure I have missed the full story on the PS3 version. Is is safe to say Patch 1.1 for the PS3 will not affect the framerate issue? That is very sad if it is the case. When you read the stickies it talks about fixing the framerate issue on the 360, but not necessarily on the PS3. I did read where Ronnie said they are looking at the demo to compare it to the retail version, but it just seems like the PS3 version is kind of being left out here. I had an issue with the PS3 version where the VIP profile would still be there, but at various times the data in it just vanished and you were back to the default settings time after time. I think there are many issues that can be addressed on the PS3 aside from the Padres issue.

ronnie any chance we can get this 2k8 board split into sections anytime soon? so having a sub section for online play, game issues, suggestions/ideas for future etc etc.
having everything in one section is still crazy, threads seem to get lost so quickly off the front page.
Interesting you brought this up, you can expect this soon. I am just trying to figure out in my own head the best way to organize it.
One request, when splitting the board out, can we do it also by console? I have the Wii version, and many of the issues here don't concern that version.

I tried the demo several times & to me its very smooth, alot smoother than the retail version, even the transition between gameplay to replays is perfect, no stutter. I dont know if its the system I have, PS3 60 gig, but I doubt it.
I agree, it is very sad that the first patch will not have a framerate fix for us PS3 users because I really like this game & prefer it over the other game. About the VIP, I've had no issues with that. Everything seems to play well except for the annoying framerate issue.

Ronnie....u said that game developers play release games with an eye towards patch when it gets to close to deadline.....completely understandable and thank you for the effort....
One thing that no one mentioned that is considered a glitch to me and I wish you would report this to 2K for the next patch is crowd reaction.....I hit HR and no one screams yells claps....they do but low and for like 1 second....Pressure situations in late innings are ok....but regular HR u can hear a pin drop....most def this is something that should be addressed....but the question is can this be done with a patch? If it can it should....

Just to add to the list of teams with freezing problems. The Rangers AA Team. Frisco RoughRiders you can't edit their line-up without a freeze.
I tested this and didn't have any problems. Anyone else have this issue?

Hi Ronnie, thanks for joining this forum! I commend 2K for making the effort.
Will this patch address the fact that the Mound Visit function doesn't work in franchise mode? If you select it, nothing happens. It just takes you back to the next pitch.
I tested this and did not have a problem. Are your cutscenes on or off? They must be on to see the mound visit. You may have turned it off to combat the framerate issue.

I agree with you and have sent this along. I do think this is visually one of the biggest issues after the framerate. However, I do wonder if it's a hard code issue and will be resolved this year.

I'm not sure if this is where I should be addressing this so I apologize if if shouldn't be here.
Anyways, there is a huge issue where the AI will hardly ever steal a base. I have played about thirty games and only had the AI steal on me three times. In fact, I never throw over to the bag where there is a runner anymore because there is never a chance that he will run. And there have been many situations where there should have been hit and runs and stolen bases and they just never happened. And just about every person that have posted there sliders have maxed out the stolen base section and still nothing. I'm not saying it's broken because like I said it's happened to me three times in thirty games, but it's no where near where it should be.
The other thing is that the "Around The Horn" feature never completes itself. The first baseman will throw the ball to the shortstop, then the shortstop will just hold the ball. This one is not that important, but it's a nice feature and I'm sure there aren't too many people out there that have it turned off. I know that in the demo it does work.
Thanks so very much Ronnie for taking the time to answer all our questions. It really helps to know that someone from 2K cares about our game experience. Thanks again. Later

What's odd about the "around the horn" is that, in the pre-release videos and beta takes, it worked just fine.
sleepytercel
March 21st, 2008, 02:05 PM
Does it not work ever? Because I know there's one animation where the shortstop fakes a throw to second.
I think it's a loading issue. The game will load back to the pitcher/batter screen before the animation finishes. In the beta vids, the pitcher would end up with the ball before it cuts back to the pitcher/batter.

There is definitely an issue with "Batter's Eye." I have probably played anywhere from 30 to 40 games on the released version of 2K8, and have just played about 10 demo 2K8 games and it seems to be not working properly. Last year I used "Inside Edge" all the time so when a pitcher would pitch against me his frequent spots would pop up on the screen pre-pitch. I would then use the "Batter's Eye" and place it on those hot spots. Sometimes the pitcher would throw there and sometimes he wouldn't, but when he did a little ball icon would pop up inside the "Batter's Eye" somewhere around the beginning of the delivery. I have used this same process in 2K8 and I have yet to see that icon pop up somewhere around the beginning of the delivery or just as he's about to release. Now, in the released game an icon does pop up, but not until either the ball is on top of you or post-pitch. Now in the demo version of 2K8 I have seen that icon pop up similar to that of last year. Right around the start of the delivery the icon will pop up which gives you an idea whether you want to swing or lay off on a ball or wait for a better pitch. In the demo version there seems to be quite a difference in how much time you have to whether to swing or not because the icon pops up so much sooner. Like I said, similar to last year. If anything Ronnie, please look into this because I think it does need attention. There have been numerous threads about this issue and whether or not it's broken. I think because most people have the game now so there is no reason to play the demo, but if they did they would realize that the "Batter's Eye" is definitely off. PLease look into this. Thank you very much. Later

I know this may seem minor to some but there are some jersey's in the game that are missing or wrong. My question is this , Is there any chance that there will be DLC for more jersey's? It seems that when it comes to online leagues and play 2k is being very vauge about what the frame rate will and won't fix. For those of us who enjoy online play we would like to know the truth about what to expect. As it stands right now you really do have to swing before the pitcher throws, if you even want a chance at hiting the ball. It also seems that at times you will have a runner running by a base and the fielder will not go to the base he just stands there like when it seem he is almost standing close or on top of the base, the result is the runner does not get tagged out because you think it cool.
The pitch timing as well as the hit timing or night and day between online and off. This is really hard for lame people like me trying to get the timing of a curve ball online man that will cost you games if the batter knows what to look for.
Last but not least when will we will have league play supported by the internet? Are you expecting that to do be done when the season starts.

Me like hound though would like to know about the Defensive swing. I loved that last year at the last second you could get a defensive swing off, but this year although it says it has it, when you pull the stick back and just release you get nothing, not any swing at all.

Hello all,
First off, I have been gone for the weekend with limited access to the computer so I apologize for the delay in responses. I will try to communicate my leaving this Friday. I will be on some weekends but I do have other responsibilities at 2K to attend to. That being said, getting to all your questions is important to me so expect an answer when I am around and if your question is not a repeat/unnecessary.
Second, the last thing I want this thread to be is a area to flame so notice that I did delete a bunch of posts from the weekend. Please don't abuse my desire to answer your questions, this is not the thread to complain.
OK I will be going through your questions. If I miss one, please accept my apologies and try a repost this evening.

sorry i didnt mean louder...what i meant was that the crowd should get more excited in the game...i want to see the fans get pumped when i hit a walk off grand slam, or strike out a batter in a tight game in the 8th, or get a clutch base hit to tie the game...as it is now the fans show almost no reaction to intense situations in the game....know what i mean??....hopefully they fix this in the patch

To add to the above... On the Xbox 360 version I have, occasionally you'll get some light, minor "flashing" on the dirt around home plate and on the mound. For me it usually happens after a pitch is thrown and the batter is getting re-situated. I believe I've noticed it in day and night games.
It's nothing greatly distracting, just appears to be a slight graphical glitch, it almost looks like a bunch of camera flashes.

This is a little bit of both. The choppiness in their path to the ball can be attributed a lot to frame rate issues, but it also allows for more magnificent play. Check this out post-patch and we'll see where to go next.

Can the font size for the menus be increased in a patch? Tons of people have asked for this, so just want to make sure you make note of it :)
I agree with you that this is kind of annoying but I don't think this is patchable. Trust me I have bothered them about this one...

I don't think it is a framerate issue. It just seems to be a way for the game to calculate the right catching animation to fielding a flyball. It also seems that there is sometimes a "hidden wall" indicating that you can execute a diving play. Again, it feels like it's just matching the right animations with the proper sequence.

sorry i didnt mean louder...what i meant was that the crowd should get more excited in the game...i want to see the fans get pumped when i hit a walk off grand slam, or strike out a batter in a tight game in the 8th, or get a clutch base hit to tie the game...as it is now the fans show almost no reaction to intense situations in the game....know what i mean??....hopefully they fix this in the patch
The crowd definitely is lacking. From what I heard, it caused some issues in graphical stuff for the game last year so they had to cut some of it down. I do think they were a little ambitious with that. I think this will be much better next year, but I doubt it's patchable.

Thanks for bothering them :) Not all of us have 55" TVs. And there seems to be plenty of room for bigger font, especially in the pause menus. I just don't understand why they changed the font size when it was just right in 2K7.

I posted this in the general forum, but thought I would add it here. I switched the audio settings to "on the field" in the presentation options. Now it seems that the game is running smoother. Could the issue with the ps3 be in the commentary?
Looking at this among other things in my search for a quick fix for the PS3. I am in the middle of testing some stuff currently, hope to be able to report good news on PS3 frame rate stuff real soon.

Ronnie, another thing -- fielders keep running into the wall instead of pushing up against it like last year's. There's no collision detection against the wall, so they won't fall down.
I have tested this. I don't run into this problem, I get that they push into it unless you dive. Having said that, post this in a public thread and see if many other people run into this issue.

Hmm ok I will send this along. I think I have actually come across this during game play but I thought it was lightning or something haha...

On the Disabled List screen, you can NOT change a person's time on the DL. Example, if my guy has a 33 day injury, and I put him on the DL for 15 days, and then try to put him BACK on the 15 day DL after the first stint is done, I can't. The help menu says "hit A to change DL time" but nothing happens........
This leaves the player on whatever roster he's on, even though he's still injured.

actually it is patchable because they did it for college hoops 2k8....the crowd was lacking in that game and in the patch they made the student section jump up and down like the cameron crazies and also screamed "OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHH" whenever the visiting team has the ball....it has made that game MUCH more realistic...

Have not heard of this problem, please be more specific.
Well, I only notice it when I am batting. I never see it when I am pitching from the pitchers view. Little sections of the screen light up like lightning right around the batter, usually right after he swings and does his pre swing routine. I also see it light up out near the pitchers mound around the pitchers feet or in that general area. I have read other posts talking about this, so I know it's not just me seeing things. I don't see it anywhere else during play. Might it have something to do with where the hot zones show up for a pitchers inside edge report?

Have you read the Swingstick 2.0 thread?
Yes ronnie.singh I have read the SS 2.0 thread. At no point does anyone even elude to the defensive swing. The reason why no one has made this an issue is because majority of the people that play this game and are on this site are novice hitters at best. Defensive swing is more of an advanced control that only the more experienced users are aware of. There is an obvious mistake made on 2k's part. I'm wondering if it can or will be patched. Please read on if you don't see the significance in the lack of having a defensive swing this year.
This current development team implemented the defensive swing back in MVP 2006 when analog hitting was first introduced. Then it carried over into MLB 2k7. Apparently it has been taken out this year. The defensive swing serves a purpose. That purpose is for when the batter has 2 strikes only. Here are some examples of using a defensive swing approach in 2k7
- pitcher has you in a 2- 2 count. You're not sure where he wants to throw his next pitch nor do you have a good fell for whether or not he wants to throw it for a strike. Move your batters eye to the outside part of the plate. Now you let anything on the outside of the plate go by while keeping your (human) eye only on the inside portion of the plate. Basically you cut the k- zone in half. Now when the pitch leaves the pitcher's hand you're looking for a pitch inside. Press up on the right analog if it appears to be coming into the inside part of the plate. If the pitch is going outside and it doesn't reveal, where your batters eye is, then you let it go because it is a ball.
- some hitter just can't do anything with certain pitches low and away. If an average batter like Brian Roberts has a 2 strike count facing a stud pitcher like Brandon Webb, and all Webb wants to do is pound him low and away with a sinker, then Roberts has to foul that pitch off until he gets a better pitch to it.
I used the Roberts Webb example very often early in online matches last year. Often times fouling off the same difficult breaking pitch 3 or 4 times until I got a pitch that was up the k- zone. The great thing about the defensive swing is that you don't use a back step. The motion is quicker than any other type of swing (press straight up). So if you had a pitch in your mind you wanted to foul off it was very easy. If your opponent was very aggressive you could constantly foul off pitches, drive up his count, and often times make him so flustered because he has to throw more pitches than he wants to that he winds up making a mistake pitch. The more pitches thrown the better it is for the batter. There are obvious downsides to using a defensive swing. I am just annoyed that it has been taken out after being in the last two baseball titles. Not to mention 2k8 gives you instructions on how to perform a defensive swing.

Is it possible for a patch to add certain things to improve the overall fluidity of the game? Example: When a player catches the ball from either a flyout or a cutoff man, can a basic round-robbin be implemented or a throw back animation to the pitcher? As it stands right now, after a flyout I have to manually throw to the cutoff man, and then he usually turns to an awkward possition and just taps his feet. It's at this point I feel the fun in the game gets interupted and I'm brought back to the reality that the Cubs aren't really going to break the 100 year drought and become World Champions over the Yankees. (keep your homer replies out of it :)

I was playing as the Nationals, if that makes any difference.
In the second case, when the injury occured, the pop up for "place on 15 day DL and continue sim, 60 day dal and sim, ignore" came up, and I hit ignore or stop sim so I could handle the injury myself.
Maybe that causes some kind of glitch and I need to let the CPU put him on the 15 day DL.
Though I'm pretty sure the first time this happened to me, the guy was put on the DL, then I couldn't extend it afterwards.....

Ronnie answer this question for me. I hear that inspite of the PS3 that the xbox is still a better system right. So how can they implement all those things into there game, have an amped up crowd, a crane swinging back and forth at shea and have no framerate issues. You know when u go from 2k7 to 2k8 YOUR NOT SUPPOSED TO TAKE AWAY THINGS THAT MADE 2K7 WHAT IT WAS, LIKE A RESPONSIVE CROWD AND GRAPHICS. WITH 2K8 U TOOK AWAY GOOD THINGS AND ADDED A NEW CONTROLS AND A BUNCH OF STUPID FREAKING TRADING CARDS. WHO CARES ABOUT THAT WHEN YOU CANT EVEN PLAY A 9 INNING GAME. I have heard about this random game freezing problem. First of all, I'd say let's see what the patch does. Secondly, I have yet to have a game freeze up on me and I have both a new system and game. Honestly, try leaving your system horizontal so it heats up slower.
I also leave mine horizontal AND have an external fan exhausting from it (USB Fan connected to my DirectTV HD DVR) I also have NO OTHER xbox360 games freeze. You have a problem, all of these people in the game freezes thread are not imagining it.
Saying you have not had it happen lends nothing to the problem nor gives us much faith that anything will be done about it.
You have a lot of other games I thought about buying becasue this one is so good, but obviously until and unless this situation is resolved, and some acknowledgement that the problem exists, I would be foolish to purchase any more of your products.
I have the new system with the 120gb HD on it, got it at christmas, play many games with never a single problem. I do not ever play on line. I have the system on for 10 hours straight sometimes, in the middle of a virtua tennis match, and just pause it and come back hours later, never a problem.
When I read about clearing cache, is this something that can be done on the xbox 360 or are they just talking to PC users? If youcan, how do you clear cache on the xbox360?
Sorry to be a bit miffed, but this is the best BB game since High Heat, possibly better, and to have it doing what Windows games do, is more than a bit frustrating, esp when we pay as much as we do for the games.
I hope that somebody will look into this. It cannot be good for your company. As a tech myself I know intermittent problems are the hardest to recreate and to fix, but the problem is very very real, and ruining the game for some.

I'm running my 360 exactly the same as you and I've got the same problems. It bugs me when there's so many people having game freezes and yet there are so many others (especially 2K related members) that don't have nary a problem, therefore it's just an isolated thing...our consoles are getting ready to crash, take the disc back and get a new one, or some other nonsense. I had the same freezing problem with 2K7 as I have now I don't have ANY other game that freezes...not Madden, not Orange Box, not COD 4, not Assassin's Creed, not anything. I realize that there's a need to read more from a disc in a sports title, but that's not a good reason for me when I know my 360 is not even a year old.
I can almost see the 2K testers/developers sitting around playing, supposedly testing the game for bugs/glitches and the game freezes up and they give each other the sly "that didn't just happen, don't say anything to anyone about it" look.
When the game plays I love it, but when it freezes it drives me up a wall. I'm even to the point now where I'll get to the black screen with the MLB 2K8 logo on with "Loading..." under it and it won't get past that so I have to re-boot and sometimes more than once to get it to load. I also get a lot of "cannot read disc, eject, wipe with cloth..."...Again don't tell my my 360 is crashing, it's less than a year old and EVERYTHING else works just fine, 100% no issues...I find it hard to believe that 2K8 is the litmus test as to whether or not a 360 console is on its deathbed or not.
Again, I'm more than happy with the game WHEN IT WORKS. I haven't experienced crazy HRs off someone's head, or teleporting pitchers to 1B, or guys diving and getting their head stuck in the wall or any of the other glitches I've heard about, I don't deny/doubt they are there I just haven't experienced them. I have experienced freezing though and it's frustrating as h3ll.

Yes I have had very rare instances of other oddities, like not freezing, but not responding, like the pitcher just stands there and you can hear the crowd noise, batter moving around, but nor response. Not sure what I did that fixed it, but everntaully something did. What i get is the total freeze. I am going to play with the HD removed and MU removed several games and that will help isolsate it, if it happens then, it has to be the game disk, or the console is slightly suspect but like you, I have no problems with other games, no heating problems etc.
Frustrating, I thnk its a great game after you spend some time with the sliders and get it fine tuned to your own liking and abilities etc.
I wonder if this patch I am reading about that is imminent witll help it at all. SSometimes working on software will fix inadvertenly other things. So fingers crossed.

whats up with my franchise? you skipped mine.. heh..
i started a new franchise and now it freezes at the pitcher selection screen.. wow this game is f ucked up huh..

Hey Ronnie, Why did you tell us that patch was going to be out this past Tuesday then it doesn't.You misinformed us.COD4 maps are out this morning and not the PATCH what's this all about?I'm getting to a point that I'm worried now because I haven't started my franchise and because of MS nor 2K I'm behind on my franchise now. This game is not fun with all the stuttering, hiccups, frame rate issues and glitches.

Mine freezes on a brand new PS3. And exactly what does MS have to do with the patch not being up for PS3? I've read all these excuses blaming MS for it not being up on live but nothing about Sony not putting up.

I'm not sure if this has already been addressed, or if this is even the right thread to post this under, but I figured I'd give it a try. Every time I try getting online with 2K8 the last week or so, it comes up with an authentication error. There's nothing wrong with my connection or anything...it just gets to the DNAS authentication screen, then comes up with a 2K Sports error message that says something like:
Network error (-603). Connection timed out. Try again at a later time.
Anyone else having this problem? I have a PS2 if that helps anyone.

Ronnie, do you have any idea when the roster updates will be available for PS2 versions of 2K8? I keep checking, and I've even called 2K Sports, and no one knows. Any ideas?

I am not positive on this, but I assume there are no more patches. But there will be monthly roster updates. I could be wrong on the patch info that is just what I assume. If there is great, I hope so.

let us hope the best for MLB2K8 , shame to throw away possibilities for such a big potential game.

Hi there! I write to you because I don't know what else to do and I'm desperate.
Last night, when I tried to play my Franchise, I can't get it open. I go to the Load part, then I select the file of my franchise, then the pop-up saying that the loading was succesfully, I gotta press "A" and then..... The Mlb 2k8's logo appears with the "loading" letters below... And that's it... The image get froken there, my Xbox stop working. I even have to reset the console because any button work and it can stay there for hours. I try saving another game and loading later, and it works. I even create a new franchise, save it and load it, and it work. The only file that didnt open, is my original franchise. Some time ago the same thing happens with my Mlb 2k7 in my old console, but that time I didn't say anything. But the diference this time is that my VIP profile is working, the rosting I downloaded is working... What else can do? Can I send to you my file so you can fix it and I be able to open it in my console? PLEASE! It's the Franchise I've been playin' the past 2 months, I don't want to start all over again. In fact, if you say me that there's nothing to do, I'll stop playin' Mlb.. Because I won't start another franchise. Please! I don't know what happen, the last save was made good! The console never turned off and nothing happens while saving. I don't know why YOUR game is the only one that gives me that problem, I play a lot of games in the same console and I NEVER had this kind of problem before. The file doesn't say that is broken or something, that's why I think that maybe you can do something about it. I'll wait answer from you guys. Please help me.

The Astros roster is still not correct. Wesley Wright and Tim Byrdak are on the MLB roster, Humburto Quentero is in AAA. Wright has been on the MLB roster since the season started and 2k still hasnt managed to get this right...

Looked for this elsewhere and couldn't find it, sorry if it's a duplicate.
I am in year one of a franchise. I play a game, I finish, I go back to the schedule to tee up the next game and my players that I have created have random skills (attributes) that have mysteriously diminished from 80's to 50's. For example, my created center fielder is not @ 50% on speed and contact for no reason. My created SS is now @ 50% on speed and accuracy.
What gives?
Thanks.

Ronnie, I too have a brand new system and game and it freezes on me as well (including when the batter comes up to bat and the screen freezes for like 4 seconds) that issue needs to be resolved. If you can pass it on to the tech guys let them patch it up!
hey by the way I love your music you f-ing rock dude!!

my game freezes for a few seconds every time a batter steps to the plate as well, and when my players are throwing it around the horn, the ball gets to my SS and freezes. will this be addressed???

The batter issue is a problem with the cutscenes. It's poor polish on the presentation. Much like how you'll hear the game freeze a bit when it goes to inning replays. The arount the horn issue will probably not get fixed either. Again, it's just poor polish.

So i've had this game for a while and I have been able to play on live before. I've had problems in the past, but they have always gone away after a few days. But now i cannot sign into xbox live in the game any more.
When i click on the Xbox Live tab on the top, it gives me the "Signing In. Please Wait." thing for about 30 seconds, then it comes up with "Sorry, but we couldn't sign you into Xbox Live. Please try again later." I try and try again and it never works.
This has been going on for about 2 or 3 weeks now. I have tried everything, i've tried reseting my cache, deleting all my mlb2k8 files, changing my ip address and then opening the ports in the new one. I've tried everything i could find on this website and others, and nothing has worked.
Any help would be great, all I want to do is be able to download the new rosters, i'm sick of playing with the Pirates as the 30th team in a league of 30 with a Nate McLouth who is like a 65 overall hahahaha.
My gamertag is SweetStew if someone wants to try and help me through that as well.
Thanks a bunch!
