View Full Version : XBOX 360 Issues

I have tried to play on the 360 on Xbox LIVE numerous times and each time we get to the 2nd or 3rd inning, throws a network error and ends the game.
Anyone having similar issues and/or a fix?
Or will this magical expected frame rate fix correct this issue as well?
Thanks
I am not having issues on normal game play just playing friends on XBL (which is one of the primary reasons I bought the game)

No need for sarcasm. I would like to hear if other people are having this problem as well.

Well i've had this once in my league a few days ago, was in the 8th and it was a tie ball game and then this network error came up and ended i was frustrated.
But hasnt happened since. Alot better then the times ive had it in 2k7.
and Ronnie, OFF-TOPIC: Do you know how to fix the way i try to challenge someone and it wont let me, like, it waits a minute then says check the FAQ? anyway to explain that? I mean happens in every 2k game to one person or another. Just curious if i can fix it so i can play the guy in my league.

I had this problem for my first four or five games. Now I've only played once since just to see if the problem still existed....I just kind of assumed it tied into the lag and frame rate problems. Anyway, the last time I played it didn't happen so I don't know exactly why but I can confirm it did happen more than a couple times to me.

I really think this issue might have to do with the server going down during a game play. Do me a favor and the next time this happens, immediately try to make another game. Until then, this matter is closed.
I have heard about problems BEING challenged but nothing about challenging other people. Is he on the same network as you? Otherwise I will send this particular problem along and see if we can come up with a solution.

I am in Colorado he is in Chicago both using Xbox Live same patch levels. He has had similar issues with a friend of his in New Jersey. Game plays normal, then 2nd or 3rd inning just ends due to network issue. Then try the next game and it happens again. Haven t tried it in over a week.

In my situation I started up a game immediately a couple different times with the same result a couple innings in the new game. Like I said, though, I haven't really tried playing much online after the first couple days except for once and didn't get dropped in this fashion. I will also note that I played against the same person every time and my connection was maxed out (all bars green) and invited through the "play a friend" except for the last time that didn't have that problem.

I have been experiencing the EXACT same issue.
I have tried playing people locally since day-1.
I completed 1 game successfully, but it was BRUTAL.
There was at least a 2 or 3 second lag while trying to nail pitching gesture, and an even worse response while trying to hit.
Every other game was disconnected due to the same vague network error message, and always before the 3rd inning. On multiple occasions, I tried playing at least 3 or 4 games back-to-back, after subsequent disconnects, and was never able to finish.
Even more of a shame ? 3 games in a row I hit HRs w/Ryan Braun in the top of the first, and never got to see him bat again.

If you mean on the same internet, then no we dont play, its someone i dont even know it just wont work.
It happens alot in quick games and happened since 2k7 to NBA 2k8 to mlb 2k8.. Just randomly does this.. I hope there is a way to fix it so i can finish all my games in the league with this guy.

Since you mentioned it's not just MLB 2K8, it's probably the server dropping mid-game. Until the server is steady, I'd suggest not playing him.

Im just hoping this issue gets fixed...
Nice job w/ the game overall though Ronnie...

When is the server going to be "Steady"?

Dont get me wrong I actually really like the game now that I am not running the bases like an idiot. But the fact that I cannot play against my friends really detracts from the overall game play. And will effect my desire to pay for anymore games. Hopefully it is fixed now or soon

Haha I had problems running the bases more than anything else. I go through spurts where I run myself into outs. Hopefully the servers have stretches that allow you guys to play more easily.

Well yea, this is like the same situation in 2k7 league i had. I couldn't play this guy for about 2 weeks and it was fine everyone else was just as active, then randomly i challenged him and we got all of our games in (after a few "A Network error has occured that prevents you from playing" games in the first few innings)<< i thought that went along with the topic because it also has happened since 2k7.
But yea, hopefully they do become "Steady" and everything works fantastically and amazing like i had been wanting

This happened again last night when I tried with a buddy of mine. First I invited him via the "Play a Friend" option. Got about three innings in and then the generic network error came up and dropped us. We decided to try it through the game lobby instead and had him host this one and in the second inning, the same thing. We immediately tried a third time with me hosting through the lobby as well and during the second inning it did it a third time.
Ronnie, is this something that will be fixed with the patch? All but one game I've attempted to play with this same guy has been disconnected in this manner and I'd say all in all we've tried around 10 to 15 times since the game came out.
I'm maxed out on the ping meter so I can't imagine there is a bad connection plus I have zero problems with other games online. Also this frame rate issue that will be fixed doesn't seem to correspond with this sort of thing.
Any help or insight on this would be appreciated.

No the frame rate issue and what you speak are different. By the way, your ping meter is YOUR ping meter meaning that it measures your connectivity. You need to look at the meter of you your friends and then open up some ports on your router if it's not high. We use different ports than many other games. Hope this helps.

The guy I was playing with had a ping meter that was not quite maxed out....he had one or two less bars every time. Is this enough to cause that to happen?
So I have to open up ports on my end when this is the case? How do I find out what ports I need to open and exactly how to do it....I assume it's done through my Windows Firewall settings?
2K Admin Ron
March 20th, 2008, 10:28 AM
Yes but my experience is not with all routers and firewall settings. You'd best served asking around to people having success playing online who has the same router as you. Good luck!

March 20th, 2008, 10:53 AM
How the hell am I supposed to find out who has the same router as me and trust they are giving me the right information?
No offense, but I'd be more comfortable having someone from 2k tell me what their ports are since it's their ports.
Don't you have any literature at all about it or have anyone in the company that handles these sorts of things? I mean there has got to be somewhere I can find out what ports 2k uses through 2k and not through people I don't know.
2K Admin Ron
March 20th, 2008, 10:56 AM
Because of the variety of routers, I doubt it. Your best bet is to call your router company instead.
Cool Hand Luke
March 20th, 2008, 10:58 AM
I get that, Ronnie, but how is my router company supposed to know what ports you guys are using?
I'm not trying to beat a dead horse here and I apologize if I'm an idiot by not understanding this.
I'm fairly certain I know where to go to open up the ports, I just need the actual numbers.

Luke brings up a good point: The ports will be the same for every single router known to man.
These are the general ports that XBL uses:
88 and 3074
Why would 2K8 use something different? I've never heard of one particular game using different ports.....(On the PC yes, but not on consoles), but I guess anything is possible...

Also guys please dont forget not everyone has high speed cable internet. Some people have high speed internet but use wireless, that causes issues too. Also I know there are some issues wit some routhers. If you go to www.xbox.com (http://www.xbox.com) they have a list of approved routers. I know some linksys arent on the list, some dlink, so not all issues are internet related. A good website to check internet speed from your computer is http://www.speedtest.net just to see. Anything over 1 or 2 mbps should be fine.

good point vhschola
my xbox is not run off of a wireless adapter so it's plugged straight into the router.
mine is one of the approved routers and i've never had any problems with numerous other games playing online including any other 2k games....All Pro Football and MLB 2K7.
when i'm home I'll be sure to open the ports listed by jeffy777 and see if that resolves my issue and i'll let everyone know here if it does.

that's a BS response; the whole point of buying this game was to play online w/friends; you're saying, just dont play them; that is beyond rediculous; WTF is 2ksports doing to fix the online lag+ connectivity issues ?!!?!? i've sent MULTIPLE emails to support, and have received jack fn chit;

I had these same bogus framerate issues. I only played one game and could not believe how horrible the problems were.
Tonight, I also found out my franchise is FUBAR. Has anyone else had this problem? I am in the off-season after the first year. In the middle of doing the re-signs, releases, and draft and it continues to freeze up at one specific point in the 'schedule' menu?
Any info would be very helpful!

Just seems silly that the suggestions for online gameplay are
1 - Ask other people what their router settings are
2 - Try to just keep trying to connect to your friends over and over again
3 - Must be due to the server dropping the connection
UH? Where are the helpful hints that justify charing 60$ for a game? The funnest part of the product is currently a steamy pile and 2k seems to give two craps about it. I have had small connection issues with other games and they were identified and corrected, but not this "poo poo" approach to helping out people that want to enjoy the game. The game is cool but the online game play is turd-like and the "help" on how to correct it has been worse.
seems like if you have a good product you should promote it accordingly and try to make your customers happy. Again it has been said? Playing against your friends is fun, playing 3 innings getting disconnected, starting a new game playing 1 inning getting disconnected, then asking for help and getting none = major suck

the patch hasn't really done much at all in the way of fixing online lag + disconnects; what is the next step ? also, why does e-mailing support seem so pointless ?

this issue is not related to the patch or lag....at least in my experience. i was unable to get further than the second inning typically before i'd get a network error.
i fixed it on mine by opening ports 88 and 3074 on my router. you can learn how to do it from this website:
http://portforward.com/
i would try it out and see if that helps.

We all have different problems with 2k8 Baseball. I have download problems.
Some people have others. 2k8 will not respond to the problems.
My problem after downloading Apr 16 Roster go to My 2k8 load the new roster check to see if Santana moved from Min to Met do save reload thing are fine. After making roster changes save it shutdown X-Box then turn game on again the saved Roster is gone.
The only thing I see is the VIP default roster. Apr 16 roster that I saved is gone.
Just cannot save the Apr 16 Roster
