In order to give this game a full shake, I set up a franchise and drafted my team. I use the new Total Control Pitchig - I actually like that the pitch result is based on MY control of the stick rather than mashing a button.
In any event despite my frustration with the out-of-the-box issues, I am happy with the gameplay. The bugs and framerate issues are horrible however.
I understand framerate issue will be resolved so I am nto going to address that. I do want to address the mapping of the "A" button this button should not simultaneously be the "advance" button and an aciton "Button".
My impatience has had me make too many baserunning errors - like a guy standing on first suddenly dashes for home (WTH?) when I want to skip the players just standing around and the cut scene. Also, on classic pitching make too many unnecessary meatball pitches (another reason to use total Control?).
I see a few way to fix this. First, remap the "skip cut scene" aspects of the A button to another button, like the start back button. Alternatively, unmap the "run to home" features of the "A" button - its a stupid aserunning selection anyway.
Speaking of baserunning, how many have been caught in a rundown between 2nd and 3rd with a man on 2nd and 3rd and cannot figure out how to get the guy on third to run? I have. The only reason I get in that pickle anyway is because the control of the baserunners is taken away. It was cumbersome in 2007, but you could at least figure it out and get good at it - and that would make a difference when playing against someone who did not know how to base run.
Anyway, I hope they can remap the "A" button.
the game should consider impatient gamers.

Please change something because I can't get used to the way it works...and wait an extra two seconds to skip ahead in the game. Yeah, that is a valid complaint.
I used to dive a lot for about two innings of my first game becuase I would hit the right trigger, because I was used to that being speed burst. After about two innings, I no longer had that problem.
Have I accidently sent a baserunner? Yes, but not in some time.

Agreed - I do this at least twice a game, after hitting a single and wanting to skip right to the next batter, and all of a sudden my dude is running. Completely annoying.

I do this as well about 15 games into playing the game. But it's just something you have to get accustomed to not hitting.
It does get frustrating watching fielders stand in place and shift their feet back and forth waiting for the game to bring up your next hitter tho. I'm never more excited to get another batter to the plate then after a hit so it's counterintuitive to my psychological make-up. :)
Doesn't need to remapped though. I just need to control my urges.

I totally agree with this post and have made a request to remap the button. Having said that, I wonder if it's a hard code issue. I'd suggest turning off replay cut scenes so you don't get the benefit of hitting A.

I've had the same problem, 60 games into my season and I've finally stopped doing it. It wouldn't be that difficult if the A button didn't skip cutscenes in every other sports game I have ever played, some habits are hard to change

I'll admit I have lost many baserunners to this and found it quite funny, but sometimes its dissapointing. (as well as call off my catcher to have him place his glove in the middle of teh plate)
I have adjusted to this and am very patient after any ball is hit into play while i am batting, but i still occasionally send a runner :( Fortunately it has never been the diffference between a win or a loss.
I would love to see a remapping of the button but im not sure what button it would work best with as most of them have a function. I'm fine either way though.

Yeah this drives me nuts too. I even made a thread about it at one point.
The triggers and bumpers can send runners. (IE in a sac fly situation.) I dont know why A is even mapped to do this in the first place.

It's mapped because each button is mapped to each base.
I use those buttons more so than the bumpers. To make the guy from third run during a run down - press over to that runner and hit A - or bumper. If I'm stretching a single I hit Y.
I can't believe this is a complaint. Please don't take it away!!!!

I did it twice then learned my lesson, no biggie.
Just hit "B" if he's on first to make you feel better, he won't move, but you also won't get to where you want to be 2 seconds faster. Patience friend, patience.

Nice replies. I am trying to get used to it (12 games into the season) but it is quite annoying.
I am not calling this a bug in the game - its not. Like in my OP I said its my impatience and apparently the impatience of many other players.
I think this is just symptomatic of 2 larger issuees: 1) Base Running and 2) changing essential controls.
With respect to the first point, controls should be intuitive. pressing the A button to advance or accept is intuitive. Having A be a shortcut button that tells a runner to go home on a bloop single to right is not.
With respect to 2, and some what related to 1, getting used to the new base running controls is a pain. I like to hit and run. Trouble is if I want to advance the lead runner to third and keep the hitter at first, I can't figure it out. This kind of play should have an intuitive control aspect if not macro function (pre-pitch: left trigger+Y for hit and run + X to advance lead runner to third?)
My is question is Who the hell tested this game?
