Princeton, NJ - The Princeton Tigers have just decided on their new coach for the upcoming 2007-2008 season. The Tigers have hired an unknown by the name of James Frizzell. Frizzell, who is 25 years old, has been coaching high school basketball in North Carolina for the past few years after he graduated from West Virginia University. Frizzell is known for his three point shooting and many compare him to former West Virginia head coach and current Michigan head coach John Beilein, though Frizzell adamantly says his offense is different. "Do we both shoot a lot of threes?" he said. "Yes, but I like to go inside more and then kick the ball outside. I also utilize more dribble drives and kick the ball out to open shooters. They are similar on the box score, but different in the game."

Frizzell was very excited about the opportunity. "Princeton is an Ivy League school and I believe it is a privilege to be coaching for such a fine academic institution," he said. "I cannot wait!"

Princeton, NJ - New coach of the Princeton Tigers, James Frizzell, announced the starters and his finalized rosters for the upcoming season. Coach Frizzell commented, "I feel this kids have earned the right to be on this team and I look forward to working with them and helping them improve over the course of the season."

Coach Frizzell is also only carrying 9 men on his roster this year. "I don't want guys just taking up space out there," he said. "If only 9 guys are good enough to make the team, then only 9 guys will make the team. I don't believe in filling roster spots just for the sake of filling them."

One may notice the lack of forwards and centers, being that there are only 2 forwards and 1 center in the entire lineup, and all three are starters, but Coach Frizzell is not too concerned. "Well," he said, "we play mostly for three pointers, anyways, so I am not too concerned about this. I do wish we had a little more depth, though."

Alright, here is what I am going to do. I am going to run this career legacy and my West Virginia one jointly, so that I can have the both of both worlds: play with my favorite team and do a career legacy! Hope no one minds. Of course, I will be on vacation until Saturday, so there will be no updates for a while. Just thought I would let you all know!

Well, I may just suck. However, just because I am on AC doesn't mean I am playing an easier game than MOP. With sliders (which are tilted towards the computer in my sliders), you can make a game play harder than MOP. On the contrary, you can make MOP easier than Junior Varsity. I feel the game plays best on AC, but I may change if need be.

You'll win some games once you get in conference; trust me. You lost bad to Virginia Tech I saw, but most of the teams in your conference would lose just as badly, so don't sweat it!

By the way, folks, in case I forgot to tell you all, I am currently on vacation in Florida. This means I am away from my Xbox 360, so no updates until I get back on Saturday. I do, however, have internet access as my grandparents' house (Where I am at) have internet, thus I am able to still get on here and post. I just wanted to let you all know why my dynasty has been suffering some inactivity.

James Frizzell enters the realm of college basketball coaching at the ripe, young age of only 25 and looks to take on a new set of challenges as he will take over the Princeton University Tigers of the Ivy League. Frizzell is an alum of West Virginia University and is an avid Mountaineer fan, but moved to North Carolina after graduating where he became a rather successful high school level. Though he did not win a state championship, he did do well for the low level of talent his teams possessed, as he used the three pointer to equalize the disparity of talent between he and the opponent.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Reporter: Welcome Coach Frizzell!

Frizzell: Thanks for having me.

Reporter: Are you excited about taking over the head coaching job at Princeton at such a young age? This move will make you the youngest coach in Division 1 basketball.

Frizzell: Yes, I never thought I would get the chance to take over a program at the Division 1 level at such a young age. These are the types of moments you can only dream about. It is amazing to me that it actually became reality. I am especially grateful that I will be at an Ivy League institution with a fine academic institution like Princeton's.

Reporter: What sort of offense are you going to bring to the table? Many people compare your offense to Coach Beilein of Michigan and even the classic Princeton offense. Is that a fair comparison?

Frizzell: Well, I bring in an offense that loves to shoot the three pointer. I suppose you could draw comparisons to Coach John Beilein of Michigan and the classic Princeton offense, but it is a little bit different. I don't necessarily use backdoor cuts as much, but will if they are available. Basically, I want our guys to swing the ball around the perimeter and look for open threes. We will do some pick and roll to get guys open. Sometimes we will pass the ball down low, get the defense to collapse, and, in turn, have him pass the ball to an open player for an open trey. If a fastbreak opportunity presents itself, we will take that as well. This offense can be fast-paced or slow-paced. It all depends on how fast we can get an open shot. It's not about how long you can work the shot clock, it's about how many quality shots you can get.

Reporter: How many three pointers would your team put up on an ideal night?

Frizzell: Well, each individual game will be different, but considering this squad I am inheriting is already very skilled at shooting the three, I would expect anywhere from 30-40 three pointers to be taken any given night. Of course, things can change, but I would expect at least 30. I had a few games in high school where we put up 50 three pointers, so we shall see.

Reporter: Have you met with the players yet? If so, do you think you all have some good chemistry between each other?

Frizzell: Yes, I have met the players. I think they are a great group of kids with good character and a passion for excellence. I guess that's what you get in the Ivy League. All of these guys are here for academics first and athletics first and I intend to keep it that way. Sometimes we forget these kids are student-athletes, and I intend to emphasize the student part of that word as I want all my guys to excell in school first. Academics is more important than athletics, and if one of my guys thinks otherwise, he will be properly punished.

Reporter: What type of season are you expecting to have this year, Coach?

Frizzell: Well, I really don't like to get into predictions as I may be proven wrong. I think we will have a good season if we can gel together and play as a team. United we stand and divided we fall; that's the way I see it. We must put extra emphasis on conference play, as well, since the Ivy League hsa no conference tournament, the winner of the Ivy League regular season title goes to the Big Dance, so we must be careful this season to not get into any mid-season slumps.

Reporter: Thanks for coming, coach! We are looking forward to your coaching this fall.

Frizzell: Thanks for having me. I am anxious to begin coaching as well.

Here is a quote taken from wikipedia.org:

Unlike all other Division I basketball conferences, the Ivy League has no tournament for the league title; the school with the best conference record represents the conference in the Division I NCAA Basketball Tournament (with a playoff in the case of a tie

Today, Coach Frizzell introduced his two new assistant coaches to the local media. "Thank you all for coming," Coach Frizzell commented. "I would like to introduce you all to my two new assistant coaches who will be helping I and this team out for anything from recruiting to gameplanning to anything in between. First, I would like to introduce you to Coach Everett Dearmon. He is a very good teacher and can help us develop our young talent. Next up, I would like to introduce Coach Dragutin Torres to you. Sure, he may have a very unusual first name, but he has quite an eye for talent as he is a good scouter. He can do just about everything else, too, and should be a valuable asset to this team."

Princeton, NJ - Coach James Frizzell picked up the first win of his career tonight as the Princeton Tigers began the first game of their season with a 13 point win over Central Connecticut State. Princeton played some great defense in the first half as Central Connecticut State was held to just 19 points and a shooting percentage just over 20%. Princeton, likewise, did not fare very well offensively, but did better as they carried a 27-19 lead into the half. Both teams would turn it up a notch offensively in the 2nd half as Princeton would score 40 points while Central Connecticut State would score 35. Princeton would pick up the win 67-54 off a very fine defensive effort.

Coach Frizzell said, "I really liked the defensive intensity we played with out there. We were swarming to the ball, especially in the 1st half. We made them shoot from the outside as we held Central Connecticut State to just 8 points in the paint for the entire game. I played a pretty small lineup, so I though we would give up some points inside, but I was wrong, and I am certainly glad I was wrong. We did not shoot too many three pointers as I felt we were doing well inside the ark for the most part. We got some inside points, some points off mid-range jumpers, some points at the foul line, and some points off the three pointer. We had a very balanced offensive game.

The Princeton Tigers were led by Noah Savage, who scored 15 points in the win. Michael Strittmatter scored 14 points for the Tigers while Kyle Koncz tacked on 13 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals in the game.

The Princeton Tigers improve to 1-0 with the win.

Princeton, NJ - The Princeton Tigers remain undefeated under Coach Frizzell as they put on a clinic against the Iona Gaels, winning by a final score of 72-47, a 25 point win. Princeton was propelled by stellar three points shooting, in particular from Kyle Koncz. Koncz scored 31 points on 11/13 shooting. He hit 7/9 from three point range in the game as he was shooting lights out. "I was feeling it," admitted Kyle Koncz after the game. "I was draining everything out there. I really love those kind of nights!"

Coach Frizzell would like to see more of those nights if the Princeton Tigers are going to have any chance of beating the Duke Blue Devils next Monday. "We played a nice game," commented Coach Frizzell. "I hope we can continue our stellar play as we get into conference play in February. If so, we will be in good shape and may have a good shot at winning the Ivy League."

Noah Savage was the only other Princeton player who scored double figures in the game as he tallied 13 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists to compliment Kyle Koncz's 31 points.

The Princeton Tigers improve to 2-0 on the season. They will play the Duke Blue Devils (0-1) on Monday, November 19th, in their next game as part of the Hawaiian Invitational Tournament.

Honolulu, HI - The first round of the Hawaiian Invitational saw the Duke Blue Devils take on the Princeton Tigers. Duke took control early, but Princeton countered and got within 3 points late in the first half with the score 27-24 in favor of Duke. Duke would lead by 10 at the half. In the second half Duke would pull away until Princeton went on a huge run that tied the game at 49 with 6 minutes remaining. Unfortunately for Princeton, they ran out of gas during the comeback, as Duke went on to win 72-60 and advance to the second round.

Princeton was, once again, led by senior Kyle Koncz. Koncz scored a career-high 34 points in the game, one game after scoring 31 points against the Iona Gaels. Koncz drained 10 of his 17 three point attempts in the game as he shot lights out. Zach Woolridge was the only other Tiger in double-figures as he scored 10 points in addition to grabbing 7 rebounds.

Coach Frizzell picks up his first career loss with the loss. The Princeton Tigers fall to 2-1 on the young season. The Princeton Tigers will take on the Arizona State Sun Devils (0-1) in the 4th place bracket tomorrow.

Yes, I was actually pretty impressed with the way we played. Kyle Koncz is an absolute beast out on the court. He is such a great shooter. He can't really do anything else, but he can make a shot from anywhere on the court. Plus, he is 6'7", so he doesn't even have to be that open to hit a shot. He hit 3 threes in a row when I got back and tied the game, then we fell apart as was to be expected.

Arizona State Easily Dismantles Tigers

11/20/07 vs. Arizona State (0-1)

Hawaiian Invitational

Final: 51-66

The Arizona State Sun Devils easily won this game off a strong start, as they took a quick 40-17 halftime lead as the Princeton Tigers were clearly outclassed by Arizona State. Arizona State rested most of their starters in the second half as Princeton closed the gap, but could not come all the way back, despite outscoring the Sun Devils 34-26 in the second period of play. "We were just outclassed and they had superior talent," commented Coach Frizzell in a post-game press conference. "We played well in the second half against their second-stringers and I felt we did a good job there, but we are certainly not on the same level of the big boys yet, which I did not expect we would be." The Sun Devils used a balanced scoring attack as seven starters scored at least five points and 11 out of 12 players on the roster scored in the game, which ultimately won them the game.

Arizona State Key Players
J. Shipp - 9 points, 2 steals
E. Boateng - 12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks

Princeton Key Players
N. Savage - 12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists
Z. Woolridge - 10 points, 11 rebounds
K. Steuerer - 12 points, 3 rebounds

The Princeton Tigers fall to 2-2 on the season. Next, they will play the Oklahoma State Cowboys (2-2) in the 7th place game in the Hawaiian Invitational.

Poor Shooting Leads to Blowout Loss to Cowboys

11/21/07 vs. Oklahoma State (2-2)

Hawaiian Invitational (7th Place Game)

Final: 41-71

"Whew, I am glad this game is over," commented Coach Frizzell after his team's 71-41 loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Coach Frizzell's team was pummeled by the Cowboys as they destroyed them by a tune of 30 points. Princeton stayed in the game early on, taking a 14-12 lead early on. However, late in the first half, Oklahoma State made a huge run to grab a commanding 44-22 halftime lead. Oklahoma State went on to whoop Princeton's butt in convincing fashion, winning 71-41 and making the Princeton Tigers an embarrassing 0-3 in the Hawaiian Invitational, giving them a last place finish. "Well, I wish we could have done better, but at least we gave some effort out there," commented a weary Coach Frizzell. "I think we were really tired today, because, after all, playing three games in three days is tough." The key too this game was the shooting percetages. Oklahoma State shot 60% while Princeton shot a lowly 30%. "We need to work on both offense and defense," Coach Frizzell explained. "We shot horrible, but I think that was a result of our fatigue as we missed a lot of shots short. On defense we were just slow to the ball. I am not too worried, but we still must work on our game to be able to win the Ivy League like we hope to."

Oklahoma State Key Players
T. Harris - 13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists
O. Moonando - 28 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists

Princeton Key Players
L. Gunn - 7 points, 2 rebounds
Z. Woolridge - 6 points, 6 rebounds

The Princeton Tigers fall to 2-3 on the season with the blowout loss.

Princeton Falls to Seton Hall at Home

11/28/07 vs. Seton Hall (5-0)

Final: 57-73

The Seton Hall Priates walked away with their sixth game of the season and kept their undefeated season going as their record now stands at 6-0. The Pirates beat the Princeton Tigers on their home floor, the first home loss of Coach Frizzell's coaching career. Seton Hall jumped ahead early and stormed out of the gates, eventually taking a 38-22 lead going into the last few minutes of the first half. However, Princeton would counter with a huge 14-0 run highlighted by two Kyle Koncz three pointers, including a buzzer beater to end the first half, which cut Seton Hall's lead to just two at 38-36 heading to halftime. The crowd was wild and this had all the makings of an upset. Seton Hall, however, came out on fire in the second half as they went on a 15-2 run early to put the game away en route to a 73-57 win on the road. "I don't know what Coach Gonzales [Seton Hall's head coach] said to his team at halftime," commented Coach Frizzell, "but it certainly worked. I though I said quite an inspiring halftime speech myself, but I guess I can learn some tips from Coach Gonzales." The main difference of the game was the turnover battle. Princeton was careless with the ball all day long, which resulted in a season-high 20 turnovers compared to Seton Hall's seven. "That is my main criticism of this game," commented Coach Frizzell. "If we had not turned the ball over this would have been a very competitive game. We will certainly work on securing the ball in practice this week, I can assure you of that."

Seton Hall Key Players
E. Harvey - 13 points, 3 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 steals
J. Nutter - 18 points
B. Laing - 10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals

Princeton Key Players
K. Koncz - 17 points, 8 rebounds
M. Strittmatter - 8 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists
Z. Woolridge - 10 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists

The Princeton Tigers fall to 2-4 on the season. Next up for the Tigers is Rutgers (2-3) on December 1st.

Press Conference

In a press conference today, Coach Frizzell was asked how it feels to be a college coach. "Well, it is definitely much more stressful than being a high school coach, I can assue you that. There is, of course, a lot more pressure. The biggest difference to me is the talent level and the coaching talent that is out there on the floor. These players are so talented. It is a joy to work with such talented guys. The coaches are a step up as well. Things are so much more complex coaching wise. In high school, there were so many less plays, less complicated defenses and such. But here in college, things are a lot more sophisticated, but I think I have made the transition fine."

Coach Frizzell was also asked whether he thought his team could compete for the Ivy League Title. "Well, I certainly hope we can, but it is too early to tell at this point. We have struggled a bit so far, but we have been playing some tough competition. Plus, Hawaii is pretty far away from here, so three games in three days was even made worse by the time difference and the distance we took our kids from home. I am not worried as I think we will have a great year, but I am not ready to proclaim ourselves Ivy League Champions either. There are four teams with better records than us in the Ivy League. They have a better record than we do, so why not ask them whether they are going to win the Ivy League?"

Rutgers Barely Escapes With Win Over Princeton

12/1/07 @ Rutgers (2-3)

Score: 61-64

With 14 seconds left Korcz nailed a shot for Princeton to get them a 1 point lead. He then proceeded to steal the ball off the inbounds pass and was fouled, though Princeton was not yet in the bonus. All Princeton had to do was get the ball inbounds to shoot some free throws to put them up by two or three points. Instead, a lazy pass was throw which was picked off by a Rutgers defender and was taken down the court where it was slammed how with 8.9 seconds left to give Rutgers a 62-61 lead. Coach Frizzell was livid with his team, but set up a play to get Kyle Korcz the ball down low on the block. He got the ball turned around and shot the ball off the backboard, but shot it too hard as it bricked off the rim. Rutgers got the rebound and was fouled with 0.9 seconds left where they would hit two free throws. A long inbound pass down to Kyle Korcz was gotten by Princeton, but Korcz's long 35 foot jumper clanked off the rim securing the Rutgers the narrow victory. Rutgers was down 38-25 at halftime, but came back to take the lead in the second half before nearly giving the game away. Coach Frizzell was disgusted by the game. "I just hate it when you play great for the entire game and then blow it on some stupid play like that. This is a tough loss to take and it sucks. At least we know we can play with the weaker teams in power conferences, I guess."

Princeton Key Players
K. Koncz - 21 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 5/10 3pt.
N. Savage - 10 points, 6 rebounds
M. Strittmatter - 11 poiints, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals

Rutgers Key Players
E. Pettis - 25 points, 5 rebounds
J. Griffin - 19 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals

The Princeton Tigers fall to 2-5 on the season. Next, they will take on the Evansville Purple Aces (2-3).

Princeton Sinks Late Free Throws to Down the Purple Aces

12/5/07 @ Evansville (2-3)

Final: 71-62

The Princeton Tigers would face another tough opponent in the Evansville Purple Aces of the Missouri Valley Conference in this one. Princeton jumped out to an early lead, effectively taking the crowd out of the game for the entire first half. Princeton would take an eight point lead at halftime, as the score was 33-25 in favor of the Tigers. Evansville would go on a run in the second half to tie the game as the crowd came alive. Evansville was behind by two points with a minute left. They began fouling, but unforunately for the Purple Aces, Princeton sank their free throws to grab a 71-62 point win and stop their losing streak at five games. "It feels great to finally get a win," commented an exuberant Coach Frizzell. "We have not won a game since November 14th and I am glad we were finally able to notch a win. We played as a team out there. We had four guys in double figures. If we can play like this in the future, we are a team to look out for."

Princeton Key Players
K. Koncz - 17 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists
N. Savage - 12 points, 4 rebounds
M. Strittmatter - 10 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 5 steals
Z. Woolridge - 14 points, 10 rebounds

Evansville Key Players
J. Holsinger - 13 points, 5 assists
S. Ely - 10 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists
V. Gomez - 13 points, 7 rebounds

The Princeton Tigers improve to 3-5. They will look to upset the Penn State (4-2) exactly a week from now as they will travel to State College to face off against the Nittany Lions.

Penn State Sneaks Out With a Win

12/12/07 @ Penn State (4-3)

Final: 55-57

Penn State was a rather tough matchup for the lowly Princeton Tigers, though Princeton would play a very nice game and was in it until the very end. Penn State controled the game early, but only held a 28-24 lead at halftime in a grind-it-out, low scoring game. Penn State would build a five point lead after hitting a three pointer with just six seconds remaining. Then, a huge mistake occurred in which they fouled Noah Savage on a three pointer. Savage would make all three free throws, making it a 57-55 lead for the Nittany Lions and cutting the lead to only two. Penn State inbounded the basketball with only two seconds on the clock, which was tipped and stolen. Coach Frizzell got a timeout called, but only 0.3 seconds remained and it looked like it was over, unless Princeton could pull a Derek Fisher like back in the 2004 NBA Playoffs where Derek Fisher managed to get off a wild shot with only 0.4 seconds remaining to win game six of the Spurs/Lakers series. Now back to the game. The pass was inbounded to Noah Savage who was open in the corner. He fired off a shot, but the buzzer sounded before he could release his shot, though his shot clanked off the back of the rim, anyways. "It was just not enough time to get off a shot," explained Noah Savage. "I tried to just throw it up there really fast, but I hadn't even hardly caught the ball when the buzzer sounded. This loss hurts a lot." Coach Frizzell was equally disapointed. "We played hard and it's a shame we could not get the victory," he said. "I guess we can consider this a moral victory, though I'd rather see a victory in the box score than a moral victory any day."

Princeton Key Players
K. Koncz - 18 points, 2 rebounds
N. Savage - 12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals

Princeton Scores Huge Victory Over Manhattan at Home

12/16/07 vs. Manhattan (6-3)

Final: 82-56

The Princeton Tigers scored a huge win at home over the Manhattan Jaspers in this affair, as the Tigers shot a season-high 54% compared to the Jaspers' 34% field goal shooting. Manhattan got the early lead in the game, but Princeton would eventually go up by as much as 10 in the first half before Manhattan cut the lead to five at halftime giving Princeton a 37-32 halftime lead. Manhattan would go on a bit of a run early in the second half, getting within two points at one point with the score 50-48, but Princeton would go on a huge run afterwards as the Tigers outscored the Jaspers 45-24 in the second half. 45 points in the most Princeton has scored in a single half this entire season and Coach Frizzell was impressed with the way his team played. "We played very well," he commented. "We just gelled tonight, played good defense, and finally shot the ball well. We got a little more involved in some fastbreak opportunities in this game as well. I believe we scored 14 points on the fastbreak." The Tigers were lead by surprise star in Lincoln Gunn, who came off the bench to hit four threes in the first half. The sophomore guard would scored 19 points total in the game off of 7/10 shooting and also went 5/7 from downtown. "It felt great to finally get my game going," Gunn commented. "I know I have the ability to step up and help my team, I have just been a little sluggish so far this season. Hopefully, this changes that!"

Manhattan Key Players

Princeton Narrowly Escpaes With Upset Over Marshall

12/22/07 @ Marshall (4-2)

Final: 62-59

The Marshall Thundering Herd have played well this season thus far and are considered by many to be the second best team in Conference USA behind Memphis. Who thought the Princeton Tigers would roll into Huntington and pull off the upset? They did, however, off of hard work and determination. After a back-and-forth game, Marshall was behind 60-59 with just 25 seconds reamaining and the ball. The ran down the game clock and shot an open three pointer with just six seconds left which bricked off the rim. The crowd went silent as Princeton pulled down the rebound. Koncz went to the charity stripe with just 1.2 seconds remaining and sank both to make the score 62-59. A full court heave by Marshall fell about 15 feet short as the Princeton Tigers pulled off the stunning victory. "I guess it was a little home state magic," commented Coach Frizzell after the game. "I was actually born in North Carolina, but moved here when I was 11. I lived down in Teays Valley, which is about 30 minutes down Interstate 64 to the west, so maybe this is a little home-cooking. Well, in any case, we churned out a nice victory today. My only disappointment was the free throw shooting, which we have struggled with all year. We only shot 6/13 from the charity stripe today, but hopefully we can improve on that as we head into conference play. Also, Merry Christmas to our fans, as this is our last game before Christmas and I think we got a good present with this victory!"

Princeton Key Players
K. Koncz - 19 points, 2 steals, 3/5 3pt.
M. Strittmatter - 12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists

Marshall Key Players
M. Humphrey - 13 points, 4 rebounds
T. Baines - 8 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists

The Princeton Tigers improve to 5-6 after the upset over Marshall. They will take on Monmouth (3-8) next Sunday, December 30th, in what will be the final game of 2007.

Chris Petrie Injured

Apparently, sophomore guard Chris Petrie puled his quadricep in the Marshall game. Right now, he is listed as day-to-day, but his injury will persist for another month or so. "I just hope I can get out there on the court as soon as possible," Petrie commented. "I am willing to play injured if that's what it takes." Coach Frizzell commented, "We will try to get him back as soon as we can. Without Chris, we only have an eight man rotation, so I think it is crucial we get him back in to deepen our bench."

Princeton Narrowly Escapes Monmouth

12/30/07 @ Monmoth (4-9)

Final: 74-70

The Princeton Tigers would fall behind early in this one and were behind 35-29 at halftime, but outscored Monmouth 45-35 in the second half to move back to .500 on the season at 6-6. Princeton had the ball with 10 seconds left and ahead by two. The shot clock ran down, forcing Princeton to shoot it, but they missed, but got the rebound and were fouled. After a couple more fouls, Koncz was sent to the line with 0.9 seconds left. He drained both free throws to make it 74-70 and iced the game as Princeton won by four. Koncz starred today, scoring 26 points off of 8/13 shooting, including 4/6 from three point range and a perfect 6/6 from the foul line. "We played well," commented Coach Frizzell. "The first half was a little shaky, but a good second half effort got us the win today. After having such a horrible time at the free throw line in our previous game, we had a good game today, as we hit 15/17 free throws, ultimately giving us the win. I certainly hope we can keep this up."

Princeton Key Players
K. Koncz - 26 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, 4/6 3pt.
Z. Woolridge - 13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists
L. Gunn - 11 points, 4 assists, 3 steals

Monmouth Key Players
W. Coleman - 14 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 4 steals
J. Youngblood - 12 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists
R. Rutledge - 21 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists

Press Conference

Coach Frizzell held a press conference today to talk about his team's recent success. When asked about what he thinks the key to the team's recent success, Coach Frizzell commented, "I think we have displayed great teamwork the last few games. We have been making the extra pass, finding the open man, and sharing the basketball. We also have been knocking down our shots. Early in the year we struggled shooting even open jumpers, but our assistant coaches have worked with our players and refined their shots and it is paying off in a big way. I am proud of our staff, players, and this university's athletic department and cannot wait to begin 2008 with this team!"

Coach Frizzell also talked about the success of his senior shooting guard Kyle Koncz. "Well," Coach Frizzell commented, "he has been playing very well this entire season. He has averaged 18.5 points per game and has been a very reliable scorer. He shoots the basketball really well. He actually shoots better from the perimeter than two pointers. He shoots 47.7% from three point range compared to just 45.4% overall, all of which are very good. He has been a very crucial part of our offense and he is definitely our go-to guy. He is a senior and I wish I coul work with him for another year or two, but all good thigns have to come to an end, I guess. He is also very unselfish and does not ball-hog at all, which I am impressed with considering the role he has on this team."

Coach Frizzell was also asked how he thought his team would perform for the remainder of the season. He replied, "I don't like to give out predictions, because I will probably be wrong, but I definitely think we have the potential to win the Ivy League. I look forward to seeing how things go from here on out, but I would absolutely love to win the Ivy League Title and head to the Big Dance."

Lehigh's Bigs Dominate Princeton

1/6/08 @ Lehigh (6-6)

Final: 48-64

Lehigh came out on fire in this game as they would dominate the board 37-28 in a winning effort in which they absolutely dominated the second half. Princeton only found themselves down 34-26 at the half, but was outscored 38-14 in the second half, causing Princeton their seventh loss of the season. Lehigh possessed three players over 6'9", and Princeton's tallest player was 6'9" center Zach Woolridge, so there was an obvious mismatch. Woolridge had to defend Lehigh's seven footer, which ended in failure as Lehigh's bigs had their way with Princeton. "There wasn't much we could do out there," commented an exhausted Coach Frizzell. "We just were not tall enough to match uo with Lehigh, which ultimately cost us the ballgame." Of course, Princeton only shot 28%, including 10/34 from downtown, so that obviously didn't help their cause either.

Princeton Key Players
K. Koncz - 13 points, 9 rebounds
M. Strittmatter - 10 points, 4 rebounds

Lehigh Key Players
M. Hall - 15 points, 6 assists, 3 steals
R. Keefer - 14 points, 2 rebounds
Z. Carrington - 11 points, 12 rebounds
B. White - 1 point, 11 rebounds

Princeton falls to 6-7. They have two more games in the month of January against Lafayette (7-7) and NJIT (2-15) before taking on Dartmouth (6-6) in the Ivy League Conference opener on February 1st.

I ran with Princeton so I know what you have to deal with. Good thing is that the conference doesn't really recruit well so in a year or so you should be in better off shape. Good luck for the rest of the year, and hopefully no one gets injured.

Yep, I enjoyed reading about your stay at Princeton. I have a feeling I can do well in conference this year, but I cannot be sure. This team is so inconsistent. We can knock off Marshall on the road, then lose to lowly teams at home. It's irritating. I just got hammered by Lafayette at home, which really surprised me. I should have the update done in a few minutes.

Princeton Dominated at Home by Lafayette

1/9/08 vs. Lafayette (7-7)

Final: 60-76

Princeton came out sluggish and stayed sluggish the entire game as Lafayette destroyed the Princeton Tigers by 16 points. Lafayette didn't exactly play great, but they played better than Princeton. Lafayette shot 43% while Princeton shot only 41%, though Lafayette hit 18/24 on free throws compared to Princeton's 4/5, which ultimately won Lafayette the game. "We were sloppy and committed way too many fouls," commented Coach Frizzell. "It was ridiculous. Luckily, we have plenty of time to get things worked out before we face New Jersey Institute of Technology on the 27th and before conference play starts on February 1st." The lone bright spot for Princeton was the play of Zach Woolridge, the 6'9" 215 pount sophomore center out of Brookings, South Dakota. Woolridge continued the strong play his has displayed recently, as he got 21 points and 8 rebounds on the game.

Lafayette Key Players
A. Brown - 20 points, 4 assists
B. Abdullah - 10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists
M. Batley - 14 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists

Princeton Key Players
K. Koncz - 12 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists
Z. Woolridge - 21 points, 8 rebounds

Princeton falls to 6-8 adter the loss. They will have to wait 17 days before they take on their next opponent, NJIT (2-15), on January 27th.

yea in my Long Island legacy i stormed thru non conference, losing only 1 game (the 1st one to ND) i beat Kansas St and St Marys and a tourny and during that streak i had 3 conference games i won. Then, when all the nonconference games were over, i figured id storm thru the conference again. Nope. Princeton Wins High Scoring Affair

1/27/08 vs. NJIT (2-19)

Final: 93-86

In what was probably Princeton's weakest opponent thus far, they struggled on the defensive side of the ball, allowing the NJIT Highlanders, who only had a 2-19 record coming into the game, shoot 52% from three point range as they drained 17 of their 33 three point attempts. Princeton, however, also shot very well, shooting 53% including 43% from three point range as they went 10/23 from downtown. NJIT scored 53 second half points compared to Princeton's 54 in the victory, as Princeton held a slim 38-33 lead at the half. Princeton was lead by a duo of high scorers in Kyle Koncz and Michael Strittmatter. Koncz amost equaled his career-high of 34 points as he scored 33 and hit 7/10 from three point range. Strittmatter scored a career-high 28 points in the game, hitting 10/16 from the field and 3/8 from downtown. "They both played great and were the reason we won this ballgame," commented Coach Frizzell. "We okayed horrible defense, which was surprising to me since I figured we would be rested after two and a half weeks off, but I guess I was wrong. If we would have played good, solid defense, we would have destroyed the Highlanders, but we didn't so we won a close game."

NJIT Key Players
T. Epps - 10 points, 11 assists
B. Lye - 18 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals
K. Peters - 13 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists
P. Skama - 11 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists
J. Garris - 17 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists

Princeton Key Players
K. Koncz - 33 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 7/10 3pt.
M. Strittmatter - 28 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, 10/16 FG
Z. Woolridge - 11 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists

Princeton closes up out-of-conference play 7-8. They will open up conference play against Dartmouth (8-7) on Friday, February 1st.

Yeah, I think NJIT went 0-29 this year in real life, the worst record in NCAA Division 1 history. Of course, guys go to NJIT for their smarts first, probably, so they aren't expected to have a good basketball team. Late Lead Evaporates, but Princeton Still Gets the Win

2/1/08 vs. Dartmouth (8-7)

Final: 67-62

The Princeton Tigerse held a 41-29 lead at halftime and a 21 points lead early on in the second half, but would see their lead quickly evaporate thereafter. Princeton would lead 60-50 with four minutes remaining, but it's lead would totally evaporate and was down to just three points. Dartmouth had a chance to tie the game, but missed the shot, then sent Kyle Koncz to the free throw line with 1.7 seconds remaining, where he would sink both free throws, giving the Princeton Tigers the 67-62 win and a 1-0 start to conference play. "We played a good basketball game most of the way, but fell apart at the end," commented Coach Frizzell, who notched his first career Ivy League Conference win. "That is unescusable! We cannot fall apart like this again or we will lose ballgames. We were lucky we were up by 21 before their huge run, or else we would have probably lost. Luckily, we won, so things turned out okay, but we must not do this again." The difference maker on the stat sheet was the free throw shooting. Princeton hit 16/21 from the line compared to Dartmouth's 3/5. Senior shooting guard Kyle Koncz once again starred for the Princeton Tigers, dropping 27 points on Dartmouth, 18 of which came in the first half. Koncz was quiet in most of the second half, but nailed a late three and a pair of free throws that iced the game.

Dartmouth Key Players
D. Mosley - 20 points, 3 rebounds
A. Barratt - 11 points

Princeton Key Players
K. Koncz - 27 points, 4 rebounds
M. Strittmatter - 17 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals

With the win, Princeton improves to 8-8 (1-0). They will take on Harvard (1-18) tomorrow.

Princeton Dominates Harvard at Home

2/2/08 vs. Harvard (1-18)

Final: 74-55

After buidling a 46-28 halftime lead, the Princeton Tigers cruised on to defeat the Harvard Crimson 74-55 to give the Crimson their 19th loss of the season. Harvard came into the game 1-18, the worst record in the Ivy League. They did not play any better today, either, as there was no question who the better team was in this one. Harvard turned the ball over 15 times compared to Princeton's 7 and only grabbed 13 rebounds compared to Princeton's 30. Both teams shot pretty evenly, but Princeton got 21 more shot attempts than Harvard due to the mass amount of offensive rebounds, which crushed the hopes of Harvard as they gave up offensive rebound after offensive rebound. Coach Frizzell was very pleased with his team's performance. "We played very well out there," he said. "We were dominant on the glass, something we have struggled with all year, as were are 7th place in the Ivy League in rebounding. We got a lot of second chance points and forced a lot of Harvard turnovers. Those two things ultimately won us the ballgame." Lincoln Gunn also stepped up big in the game as he drained four three pointers as the sophomore got a career-high 21 points in the game.

Harvard Key Players
J. Lin - 14 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists
A. Pusar - 10 points

Princeton Key Players
M. Schroeder - 9 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals
N. Savage - 13 points, 6 rebounds
Z. Woolridge - 11 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists

Princeton Comes Back From 21 Down, but Falls By Three to Cornell

2/8/08 @ Cornell (8-9)

Final: 78-81

Cornell was absolutely on fire in the first three-quarters of the game. They hit 10 of 14 three pointers in the first half before Coach Frizzell scraped his typical 1-3-1 defense and went with a tight man-to-man coverage to slow down's Cornell's three point shooting, which worked. Cornell lead 45-34 at halftime. Down by 21 points with a little over nine minutes remaining, Princeton staged a comeback. Lincoln Gunn hit back to back threes to pull within 15 points. Princeton would slowly come back and was within six points with four minutes left. Princeton would get within two points with 30 seconds left, but Kyle Koncz would miss an open three with 30 seconds left, making Princeton foul Cornell, where they would put the game away. "We showed some heart in the comeback," commented Coach Frizzell. "This was a very tough road game and to come back like that is pretty impressive. Unfortunately, we dug ourselves too big of a hole. We were just a little intimidated early on and we let the crowd get to us. We defended well in the second half, but horribly in the first half of play when I was still using a 1-3-1 zone. Luckily, the man-to-man defense worked well and I may use that some more as we get deeper into Ivy League Conference play." The two differences in the game were at the foul line where Cornell nailed 20/29 free throws compared to Princeton's 15/18, and beyond the arc where Cornell drained 11/25 compared to Princeton's 5/17.

Princeton Key Players
K. Koncz - 23 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists
M. Strittmatter - 18 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals
Z. Woolridge - 7 points, 12 rebounds, 2 steals
L. Gunn - 10 points, 4 rebounds

Cornell Key Players
L. Dale - 14 points, 4 rebounds, 7 assists
A. Gore - 20 points, 2 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals
R. Whittman - 17 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals
J. Hartford - 15 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists

Princeton falls to 9-9 (2-1) after the loss. They will face off against Ivy League leading Columbia (16-5) tomorrow. Columbia is 5-0 in Ivy League play. They are ranked 6th in the mid-major poll and boast an impressive RPI of 42.

Princeton Shocks Columbia With Blowout Victory on the Road

2/9/08 @ (6) Columbia

Final: 68-49

From the opening tip it was apparent Princeton came out to play. Jumping out to an early 10 point lead, Princeton would lead 32-25 at halftime and would blow away Columbia in the second half, grabbing a stunning 19 points victory over the Columbia Lions, a team ranked 42nd in RPI and 6th in the mid-major top 25 poll. "All we heard about was how good they were," explained Senior Marcus Schroeder, who had an impressive 13 points and five steals in the game. "We were ready to play. It was that simple." Princeton shot 50% for the game compared to Columbia's lowly shooting percentage of just 34%. Princeton also forced Columbia into 16 turnovers while only committing nine turnovers of their own. Both teams were cold from behind the arc, but Princeton utilized the fast break, where they got 14 points, and the painted area, where 42 of their 68 points came from. "I was impressed with how we bounced back after the win," Coach Frizzell commented. "We could have thrown in the towel, but we didn't. We came out ready in this tough road game and played spectacularly." This win keeps Princeton very much alive in the Ivy League Conference Title race, as Columbia was previously 5-0 in conference play and in first place.

Princeton Key Players
M. Scroeder - 13 points, 2 assists, 5 steals
K. Koncz - 14 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists

Princeton Crushes Penn on the Road

2/12/08 @ Penn (6-14)

Final: 76-45

Most people thought Princeton would come away with the win, but not many thought they would win by 31 points, but that's just what they did. Princeton held a 12 points lead at the break as the score was 37-25. They crushes Penn in the second half by a tune of 39-20 in the 76-45 romp. Penn was held to just 31% shooting in the game while Princeton shot 45%. Princeton also went 11/25 from three point range in the game and 13/19 from the foul line. Coach Frizzell was visibly excited about his team's performance after the game commenting, "We played great! I am so glad to finally see this team gelling. Granted Penn was only 6-14 coming into the game, we still played spectacular defense in our last two ballgames. We only allowed 49 to Columbia and now only 45 to Penn. I am rather impressed." Marcus Schroeder, Kyle Koncz, and Noah Savage all scored in double figures in the game as they scored 23, 15, and 16 points respectively. Schroeder's 23 points was a career-high for him. Koncz also grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds in the blowout victory.

Yale Knocks Off Streaking Princeton on the Road

12/15/08 vs. Yale (10-8)

Final: 64-68

Princeton's hot win streak was stopped at two after they crushed both Columbia and Penn in back-to-back games. Yale stormed out to an early lead in this one, but Princeton came storming back to take a slim halftime lead with the score at 32-30 in Princeton's favor. The game would remain fairly even in the second half until Yale took a late five point lead with a little over two minutes remaining. Princeton would miss a three pointer that would have given them the lead with 30 seconds remaining and was forced to foul, where Yale sank their free throws and iced the ballgame. "We played poorly," commented a visibly frustrated Coach Frizzell. "I think we got a little overconfident after we easily knocked off Coumbia and Yale and it cost us thie ballgame as we weere just sloppy out there. We shot horribly and just played terrible." Princeton did shoot badly, as the Tigers shot a mere 36% compared to Yale's 46%. Princeton was great from outside, where they knocked down 7/13, but was horrible inside the ark. "We needed to finish off our layups," commented Coach Frizzell. "We were always expecting the referees to bail us out with a foul, but they didn't always, so we have to still try to get the shot to go down, regardless of whether a foul is called or not. If you make the shot and get the foul, then you get a three point opportunity, which is even better than just getting to the foul line or simply making a bucket. I like that we were trying to draw the contact when we got the ball inside, but we have to finish. It's that simple."

Princeton Recovers From Loss to Decimate Brown

12/16/08 vs. Brown (8-13)

Final: 66-47

Princeton bounced back from the loss to Yale in a big way tonight as they easily knocked off Brown 66-47 due to great defense and a stuttering Brown offense. Fueled by a huge 45-24 lead at halftime, Princeton easily cruised in the second half to the win. Brown only shot 39% on the year and that's exactly what they shot tonight, as well. Brown also only hit 3/17 from downtown and 6/17 from the foul line. While Coach Frizzell was happy with the win, he was not particularly impressed. "We played good, but not great," he explained. "We played good enough to win, and win by a good margin, but I think that was due more to Brown's inability to shoot and their lack of success at the foul line. We left some of their shooters wide open, yet they were only able to nail 3/17 from downtown. While I am happy to win, I am not impressed with our performance." Zach Woolridge was a major force in the game for Princeton as he picked up a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds as well. Kyle Koncz also scored 11 while getting 8 rebounds and Noah Savage added 17 points.

Brown Key Players
M. MacDonald - 9 points

Just got caught up. You've had a pretty nice series of games recently with the exception of the Yale game and even that one was close.

With no conference tourney every game from here on is HUGE!

how is Columbia RPI in the top 60??? Ohh well at least you beat them, and if you can just knock off the teams above you, you should still be in good shape to win the league.

Yeah, we have played well the last few games. Every game is VERY important, as you said, so I cannot lay an egg in any of these games.

Princeton Blows Past Harvard to Earn 13th Win of the Season

2/22/08 @ Harvard (1-23)

Final: 72-58

Pretty much everybody picked Princeton in this one. Harvard was 1-23 and 0-8 in Ivy League play whereas Princeton was 12-10 and 5-2 in conference. As expected, Princeton led at the half by a score of 35-29 and went on to outscore Harvard by eight points in the second half to score a 14 point win giving the Princeton Tigers their 13th win of the season. The main key to the game was turnovers, where Princeton only turned the ball over six times to Harvard's 13. "We took good care of the ball and played a good ball game," Coach Frizzell commented. "We didn't look past Harvard even though they were 1-23, because we know these type of games can turn out to be trap games. We played well and happily earned the victory." Lincoln Gunn came off the bench to once again step it up to another level as he scored 20 points in the victory. "Lincoln has been playing great," commented Coach Frizzell. "If he can develop some consistency in his game, he can be quite a force in future years, as he is only a sophomore."

Princeton Key Players
M. Schoeder - 9 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals
K. Koncz - 14 points, 5 rebounds
L. Gunn - 20 points, 4 rebounds, 5/9 3pt. FG

Harvard Key Players
T. Carey - 10 points, 5 rebounds
E. Harris - 15 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals

Princeton improves to 13-10 (6-2) after the win. They will face off against Dartmouth (11-11) tomorrow.

Yes, Harvard is terrible for some reason. They are rated a 68, which is bad, but not THAT bad. For some reason they have just lost to everyone. I don't know what it is. But, heh, I'll take a free win on the schedule any day!

Princeton Wins Huge Road Game at Dartmouth With Tough Defense

2/23/08 @ Dartmouth (11-11)

Final: 60-44

From the opening tip-off, Princeton's defense was intensely stubborn. Princeton took an early lead because of the great defense, but their offense would stutter as they would only hold a slim three point edge at halftime with the score at 26-23. In the second half, it was more of the same, as Princeton continued to play phenomenal defense as the Tigers pulled away from the Big Green for the huge 16 point win. Princeton's defense held Dartmouth to only 37% shooting, 23% from three point range, and also forced 17 turnovers. "We once again played great defense," commented Coach Frizzell. "I think that has been the key to our late winning streak is that we have been sound on the defensive end, which has let us win more ballgames, since our offense is always pretty good. If we continue to do this, we will be in very good position to win the Ivy League." The only Princeton player to go into double figures was Michael Strittmatter, who scored 16 points in the game. Princeton's star shooting guard, Kyle Koncz, was defended well in the game as he only scored seven points off of just 2/11 shooting and 0/3 from downtown. "They defended me really well," Koncz explained. "I was just out of sync as well. I was left wide open for a couple of threes which I missed. Usually I would make those, but tonight I was just off, I guess."

Koncz Leads Princeton Past Brown

2/29/08 @ Brown (8-16)

Final: 60-54

Fueled by Kyle Koncz's 31 points and a lights-out first half performance, the Princeton Tigers avoided a meltdown in the closing minutes to grab their 15th win of the year. Princeton held a comfortable 35-23 lead at halftime, with Koncz already having 20 points in the first half alone. Brown started double-teaming Koncz in the second half, which would slow his production down a bit as he only scored 11 second half points. Brown would actually take a 51-50 lead with a little over four minutes remaining as the Brown faithful were on their feet rooting for their home team. However, a few clutch shots by Kyle Koncz gave Princeton the lead again and a few clutch foul shots by Michael Strittmatter sealed the ballgame for the Princeton Tigers. "We played very well in the first half," Coach Frizzell commented. "However, we played pretty poorly in the second half and we just about lost the game because of it. Luckily Kyle Koncz was on fire for us out there. I believe he scored 31 points. That's more than half of our total points!" Kyle Koncz hit 10/11 from the field, 5/6 from three point range, and 6/8 from the foul line in the 31 point offensive explosion.

Princeton Key Players
K. Koncz - 31 points, 6 rebounds, 10/11 FG, 5/6 3 pt. FG
Z. Woolridge - 9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists

Princeton improves to 15-10 (8-2).

Winning Streak Snapped As Princeton Loses Tough Road Game to Yale

3/1/08 @ Yale (14-9)

Final: 65-68

Despite a valiant comeback, the Princeton Tigers could not come back, as Yale grabbed the 68-65 home victory. Yale jumped out to an early lead and was dominating early, though Princeton made a bit of a run towards the end of the first half to cut the lead to seven at halftime, with the score 32-25 in Princeton's favor. Princeton had turned the ball over 10 times already in the first half, which is significant considering they only turn the ball over 9.6 times in the entire game on average. They would end up with 14 turnovers by game's end. Princeton would stay between 10 and 12 points back for most of the second half before making a huge run to cut Yale's lead to only two points with 10 seconds left. Yale made one of two free throws, giving them a 68-65 lead with 7.2 seconds left. Princeton ran the ball upcourt through a surprising Yale press and got the ball over halfcourt with four seconds left. Point guard Marcus Schroeder passes the ball to a wide open Kyle Koncz, who had a horrible day, only making three of 13 field goals and one of eight from behind the arc. He got the ball off just before the buzzer sounded with nobody within 10 feet of him. He missed it as the ball hit the left side of the rim and bounced out and he missed the shot that would have sent the game to overtime in quite possibly the worst game of the season right after he hit 10/11 on field goals in his previous game. Both teams shot 43%, but Princeton's 14 turnovers to Yale's nine ultimately decided the game. "It's a tough loss to take," Coach Frizzell commented, "but we deserved to lose. We were not ready for their press in the first half as we made some errant passes out there and made some horrible decisions. Luckily we dissected how to attack their press in the locker room at halftime and were able to break it more successfully in the second half, but the seven point hole we were already in was too much to overcome against a very good Yale team."

Princeton Key Players

Princeton falls to 15-11 (8-3). They will face conference leading Columbia (21-7) next in a very pivotal game for Princeton's chances of making it to the NCAA Tournament. If they lose, their chances will most likely be over. If they win, they will still be very much alive as two more games remain following the Columbia game.

Press Conference

In today's press conference Coach Frizzell talked about the remaining three games for his Princeton Tigers. "Well," he said, "I think we will have to win out to have a chance. We have three losses as does Cornell. Columbia has only two losses, but we play them one more time, so we have the opportunity to knock them out of the top spot as we did earlier this season when we beat them pretty good. I think we have a chance, but as I said, we will probably have to win out assuming Columbia or Cornell don't lay eggs in their remaining games. Whether we win the conference or not, I think we have had a great season. I would love to end that with an Ivy League Championship, but if nothing else we will have a pretty good record which exceeded my own expectations at the beginning of the season. We will finish about .500 now, which I am pretty impressed with. I would love to make it to the Big Dance for all our seniors and fans, so we will definitely try our best out there to go get you all a conference title!"

Princeton has three games left to play this season, all of which will be played at home. The first will be on Friday, March 7th against Columbia (21-7), who leads the conference. On Saturday, March 8th, the Tigers will face off against Cornell (15-10), which will be another tough game for the Princeton Tigers. Senior Night will be on Tuesday, March 11th, against Penn (8-19).

Princeton Pounds Columbia for the Second Time This Year

3/7/08 vs. Columbia (21-7)

Final: 70-62

Princeton absolutely dominated this game, as just about every stat ended up in their favor. After holding a 31-25 halftime lead, Princeton was up by 21 with five minutes left. Coach Frizzell pulled the starters out, which began a long run for the Columbia Lions that would eventually get them within six with 15 seconds left, when Coach Frizzell had to put back in his starters. Kyle Koncz nailed all four of his free throw attempts to seal the win, but Coach Frizzell was disappointed citing, "Our second unit really floundered out there. Granted they had their first unit in the whole time, I thought we could keep a 21 point lead from getting within 10 points, but I guess I was wrong. Otherwise, we played a great game. We shot well, defended well, and took good care of the ball." Princeton shot a perfect 50% from the field as they nailed 29 of 58 shots compared to Columbia's 42% shooting. "We must have their number," Coach Frizzell joked. "We have beaten them twice this year and handed them two of their three conference losses. They are ranked in the top 10 of the mid-major poll, yet we continue to handle them and beat them pretty roughly as well. I'll take it though!"

Columbia Key Players

Koncz Hit Buzzer Beater Three to Lift Princeton Over Cornell

3/8/08 vs. Cornell (16-10)

Final: 65-62

"Wow, what a game!," exclaimed Coach Frizzell after Kyle Koncz hit a buzzer beater three to win the game. This was the first such game of Coach Frizzell's career. "There's something about winning on a buzzer beater shot that makes it very worth it. I remember back in high school winning a few of these, but there is something about doing it on the college level that makes it that much more special!" Princeton got out of the gates on fire, taking an early 25-13 lead. However, after a 15-2 run by Cornell to close out the first half, Cornell took a slim 28-27 lead at halftime. After taking an early 30-27 lead in the second half, a three by Koncz and a couple of other buckets pulled Princeton back on top. Princeton was up 62-59 with 48 seconds left and Cornell bringing the ball upcourt. With 36 seconds left, the ball was passed to an open Adam Gore who sunk the three pointer for Cornell to tie the game at 62 with 33.8 seconds left. Princeton would have one last chance to win the game in regulation as the shot clock was off. After stalling the ball, Coach Frizzell called a timeout with 9.8 seconds left to come up with a plan. The plan was excecuted perfectly. Senior Matt Sargeant, who was filling in for Marcus Shroeder who fouled out after getting 10 points, five rebounds, and four steals, called for a pick by Michael Strittmatter. Strittmatter set the pick at the top of the post with five seconds left. Matt Sargeant had the option to drive to the basket or dish the ball out to Kyle Koncz for a three. The defense closed in denying the drive to the basket. Thus, Sargeant kicked the ball out to Kyle Koncz who was not wide open, but open enough to rise up his 6'7" frame over defender Adam Gore, who was only 6'0". Koncz drained the three as time expired and the fans stormed the court in celebration!

Alright, here is what's up. In real life, if I win the Penn game, I and Columbia (Who is tied with me if I beat Penn) would play each other in a one-game championship game to determine the Icy League Champion and who goes to the Big Dance. However, I wonder if this game actually has a mechanism set up to do that, so it may just take whoever won the season series (I won it 2-0). Hopefully, it will go to a championship game to decide the winner, but we will see. Whatever the case, I must beat Penn first!!!

Yeah, I thought we had it until Cornell hit that late three pointer and tied it. Then I though, oh no, not another overtime... But we got it done in regulation, which makes me very happy!!!

Yeah, I hope it is set up like it was in real life, but I would think that would be hard to code into a game since the game would only happen in certain situations. I guess we shall see!

Yeah, that's what I figured... Oh well. I wonder how the conference winner is decided then? I hope it is based off the season series, because if it is off overall record, I lose. Or if it is some whacked out thing where it goes alphabetically, I lose. Hopefully, it's the season series!

Amazing Heroics By Koncz Gets Seniors Final Win of Their Career in Overtime Thriller

3/11/08 vs. Penn (8-21)

Senior Night

Final: 104-101

"Bye, bye Kyle Koncz" signs were held throughout the gym on this lovely Tuesday night as star Kyle Koncz and other seniors played the final game of their career at home and, unless the Tigers get an unlikely bid to the NIT, the final game of their entire careers as well. They would go home happy. Princeton got up early by as much as 15 points, but once again let the lead slip away and only lead by five at halftime with the score 47-42. At the end of regulation and down by two points, Kyle Koncz would drain and three and get fouled as he was hit on the arm during the shot. The free throw was good and Penn would have one last shot with four seconds remaining. A heave down the court would end up in a Brian Grandieri of Penn's hands. He would fire up a shot, but was shockingly fouled on a 30 foot jumper. The crowd, the fans, the media, and everyone else was shocked at why such a stupid foul was committed. If Grandieri would have hit all three free throws, Penn would have walked away with a 81-80 win, but he did not, so the game went into overtime with the score deadlocked at 80. Kyle Koncz took over in the overtime period. Down by two with only 30 seconds left, Kyle Koncz drained another three to put his team up one. Penn missed a shot at the other end and was forced to foul. Princeton's Noah Savage made both free throws to push the lead to 104-101 with one second left. A full court heave would wind up short for Penn and Princeton would send it's fans and it's players, especially the seniors, happy to win the final game of the season even if there was no postseason in their future. "We played really hard out there," commented Coach Frizzell. "We were shocked a little by Penn's talent level considering they were only 8-21, but we survived and that's all I can ask for. I feel for our seniors and wish them well in their future endevours.

The seniors would score 76 of the 104 points Princeton scored in the game. 53 of those points would come from who else but Kyle Koncz, who had a shocking 53 points off of 15/21 shooting, 11/14 from three point range, and 12/15 from the charity stripe. Noah Savage would contribute 13 points. Matt Sargeant would get 10 points and would hit some crucial shots including two threes. Kevin Steuerer was scoreless, but did grab three rebounds in the game. The four seniors all had a great end to their careers. After all, how many players can say they won their final game? No one except NCAA and NIT Champions and teams from the Ivy League!

Penn Key Players
H. Gaines - 21 points, 15 assists
J. Reilly - 13 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals
T. Bernardini - 15 points, 2 assists

Penn Key Players
K. Koncz - 53 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, 11/14 3 pt. FG
N. Savage - 13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals
L. Gunn - 11 points, 4 rebounds
M. Sargeant - 10 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists

The Princeton Tigers finish the season at 18-11 (11-3). They will finish tied with Columbia in the conference standings, but unfortunately lose the tiebreaker based off of overall record.

Coach Frizzell congratulated his players on a great season in his post-season press conference. "We may not have won the conference championship or made it to the Big Dance," he said, "but we certainly played like a team out there and got quite a fine record to show for it. Sure, if we could have won one more game in conference play we would have gotten to the Big Dance, but we did not, so we cannot look back on the past. I will miss our seniors like Kyle Koncz and Noah Savage. Those guys really led our team this year and it will take a lot to replace them, but I am up for the challenge!"

Coach Frizzell pulled in the 104th ranked recruiting class with this bunch, the best in the Ivy League. Coach Frizzell looks to use some overseas talent to jumpstart this team. "I saw nobody was going after them, so I thought we may as well go take a shot at them," Coach Frizzell explained. "None of them were particularly interested in us at first since most had never heard of us, but for many of them, we were the only school to offer them a scholarship, so if they wanted to play Division 1 basketball, they had to choose us or walk-on somewhere else."

Press Conference

Coach Frizzell talked about how he utilized his rosters this year in today's press conference. "I felt like we had a pretty good recruiting class come in. Many of our returning players like Michael Strittmatter and Zach Woolridge were bumped from their starting positions for more talented freshman, so I hope they will understand why and still try their best in practice to be good role players. I am very excited about our recruiting class as I think we have recruited a few studs in the front court which will help us have more of an inside presence down low. I know I cut five guys from our team, but I would like to free up future scholarships for next season. Plus, most of these guys would be riding the pine for four years anyways. I am looking forward to this season and beginning a brand new journey. I cannot wait to get started in my second season as a head backetball coach!"

Yeah, hopefully. With the recruiting class I brought in depending on how they perform, I think we really could have a shot at running the table in conference to be honest, though that probably won't happen, though I realistically do hope we can win the conference championship at least! All of the teams in the Ivy League are rated within three points of each other, though, so we'll see.

Yeah, the big schools tend to ignore them for some reason. There is usually not any superstar talent to pick from, but there are usually some solid 3 star recruits with the occassional 4 or 5 star as well.

Yeah, I am sure our team unity will be a disaster, but oh well. I want to make sure the best players play and I think I have accomplished that. If their ratings are any indication, then we should have a much better team this year compared to last year's team.

Nice recruiting. I noticed ur center is named Sow and from Senegal. i havent posted it yet, but after my 2nd season at Long Island, i got a guy names Sow from Senegal except he is 7 feet tall and i think his name is Kevin. 8 recruits thou, damn. i got robbed of one of my 3 cuz some dude transferred over. one guy already acepted ad i went for 2 players and then when the BS guy transferred i could only pick one (Sow). the transfer is my best rated player, but im probably leaving LIU after this season so whats the point

That's pretty neat how they have the same last name.

I sure hope our height is not a problem. My center is only 6'7", my power forward 6'5", and my small forward 6'7". I may switch my SF and PF as well.

Yeah, I am sure our team unity will be a disaster, but oh well. I want to make sure the best players play and I think I have accomplished that. If their ratings are any indication, then we should have a much better team this year compared to last year's team.

In my Sacred Heart Legacy the year I started 4 Froshies was interesting to say the least. Very up and down team. Team Unity started out at a sparkling 12 as well. :P

2008-2009 Princeton Tigers Coaching Staff

Coach Frizzell today held a press conference to announce that he had retained both assistant coaches as both Everett Dearmon and Dragutin Torres had decided to come back for a second season with the Princeton Tigers. "I am honored to have them both back," commented Coach Frizzell. "They both have great basketball minds and I am glad they have returned for another season."

Coaches
James Frizzell: C+ OVR (2nd year)
Everett Dearmon: C OVR (2nd year)
Dragutin Torres: C OVR (2nd year)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Replacements

Coach Frizzell has brought a whole new set of guys into the Princeton Tigers basketball program. Coach Frizzell and his staff brought in eight guys this season, though four of them were cut in pre-season practices. "It's just business, nothing personal," Coach Frizzell insisted about the cuttings. The only returning starer on the team is point guard Marcus Schroeder. Center Zach Woolridge lost his starting job at the center position to Martin Sow. "If Zach works hard and out-performs Martin, I will surely give him the starting job back," Coach Frizzell explained. "If we works hard, he will be fine. He will be our main bench guy down low coming off the bench if all goes as planned."

Renardo Rodriguez of Mexico comes in to replace the star that once was Kyle Koncz from last year. Rodriguez will play at the shooting guard position, unless junior Lincoln Gunn wins the starting job if he plays well. Ferdinand Djordic, the 6'7" forward out of Serbia, was moved to the power forward position by Coach Frizzell. Instead, Damien Allen, who is only 6'5", will play at small forward, who is also a freshmen. Martin Sow will get the nod at the center position at only 6'7".

When asked about how Coach Frizzell feels his team will perform with four freshmen starting, Coach Frizzell commented, "They're all basketball players; aren't they? Maybe they don't have as much experience, but talent is something that is not obtained, but a God-given ability. One can improve on their talent, but the talent itself comes from God alone. Thus, I know our coaching staff has not had time to work with these new guys much, but they have talent, and in fact more talent in most of our opinions than many of our returning players, and that is why we gave them the starting job. Do I feel bad for guys like Zach Woolridge who lost their starting jobs? Sure, but they can earn it back through hard work, determination, and persistence."

When asked about how he thinks his team will do this season, Coach Frizzell commented, "I think we will do well, hopefully winning the Ivy League this season if all goes as planned. We don't have a whole lot of height, which is unfortunate, but we have talent. We also don't have too many shooters this year, but hopefully we can work on that. Lincoln Gunn and Michael Strittmatter can hit threes off the bench, but that's about all that can hit the trey with consistency so far, but we'll see if someone else can step up in a big way. I expect big things this season, so we'll see how it goes!"

It's much tougher without height. in my 1st season i had 3 guys at 6'8" and nobody else was taller than that. I had a good shooter, so it wasnt very needed, but it did hurt me in the end. In my 2nd season , I knew i needed height, and it helped. I say next season, if you know you will stay for a 3rd, recruit a guy around 7 feet and at least a 2*. i recruited a 2* and a 1* after my first year, and their overall rating is a 15 point difference, but the 1* is an inch taller and can do work. I got a 3* center for my 3rd and he is rated the same as the 2*. it helps a lot.

Luckily, most of our Ivy League competition is short as well. I am actually very pleased with our bigs. Last year my big men could never finish off shots. These guys may be short, but they can make the inside shot with a high percentage which really helps a lot!

Princeton Grabs Opening Day Victory Over North Florida

11/5/08 vs. North Florida

Final: 71-60

The Princeton Tigers dominated the early stages of this game, taking a 35-23 lead at halftime and leading by as much as 20 points early in the second half. However, North Florida would come storming back to close within just a single point with a little under five minutes remaining. Coach Frizzell called a quick timeout and drew up some new plays. His plan worked as Princeton pulled away from North Florida in the final four and a half minutes as they took an 11 point victory at home with the score at 71-60. The Tigers presented balanced scoring all across the board as four players got into double figures. Freshman center Martin Sow really showed us his abilities tonight as he hit nine of 15 field goals for 19 points as well as give rebounds. "He played really well tonight," commented a joyful Coach Frizzell. "He was dominating in the first half. He cooled off a bit in the second half, but took over the game in the closing minutes and was a key reason for our victory." Princeton's defense shined, as well, allowing North Florida to shoot only 37% from the floor and 23% from behind the arc. Coach Frizzell explained, "We alternated between a 1-3-1 zone and man defense most of the night and it worked really well for us. We kept them from getting too used to seeing any one defense and it really confused them out there." Coach Frizzell also commented on how poorly his team shot from the free throw line, saying, "We played a really good game today in all aspects except our free throw shooting, which was rather pathetic. We only hit eight of 17 shots from the free throw line, which is really disappointing. We will be working on them in practice, because in tight games, you must make sure you make all the scoring chances you get."

North Florida Key Players
T. Hammonds - 10 points, 4 assists
J. Cecil - 16 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals

Princeton Key Players
M. Schroeder - 11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals
R. Rodriguez - 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists
D. Allen - 11 points, 5 rebounds
M. Sow - 19 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists

Princeton improves to 1-0 on the season. Coach Frizzell improves his career record to 19-11. Next, the Princeton Tigers will take on the Temple Owls (0-0) at home which should be a major test to see if this Princeton team is for real.

Well, while Woolridge is our tallest guy, he can't finish any of his shots down low it seems. Our new guys can, which is a huge plus. Still, Woolridge should see considerable action off the bench as our primary backup in the frontcourt.

Strong Second Half Lifts Temple Past Princeton

11/7/08 vs. Temple (0-0)

Final: 66-93

Tied at 37 at halftime, the Princeton Tigers had the game just where they wanted it. Princeton hoped to keep the game close and they just did that, as most expected Temple to blow away Princeton. However, an amazing second half capped off by runs of 13-0 and 20-2 lifted the Temple Owls past the Princeton Tigers in blowout fashion, as they beat Princeton 93-66 in what was once a tight game in the first half. Temple outscored Princeton 56-29 in the second half. "It was disappointing to have such a horrible second half, but at least we can see that we can at least play one half of basketball right on par with one of the best basketball teams in the Atlantic 10," commented Coach Frizzell. Princeton's Martin Sow, who scored 19 points in their first game against North Florida, quickly picked up two fouls in the early going that would keep him out of most of the first half and that would limit him to just one shot attempt and no points in the first half. Sow would never quite get back into the game as he only picked up four points in the second half. Lincoln Gunn scored 22 points in the game off of 5/10 from three and 7/7 from the foul line for Princeton. Also, Ferdinand Djordic picked up a double-double for Princeton as he scored 12 points and grabbed 10 boards in the game.

Temple Key Players
J. Momplaisir - 13 points, 4 assists, 3 steals
L. Valavicius - 11 points, 4 rebounds
S. Inge - 16 points, 6 assists
M. Kee - 16 points, 2 assists

Princeton Key Players
R. Rodriguez - 2 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals
F. Djordic - 12 points, 10 rebounds
L. Gunn - 22 points, 5 assists, 5/10 3pt., 7/7 FT

Princeton falls to 1-1. Coach Frizzell's career record now stands at 19-12. Next, Princeton will take on Hampton (0-0) on Monday, November 10th in the NIT Season Tip-Off B 1st round.

Free Throws Lift Princeton Past Hampton

11/10/08 vs. Hampton (0-0)

NIT Season Tip-Off B (Value City Arena)

Final: 76-72

Things got off to a rocky start for Princeton as Hampton quickly built an 11 point lead right off to bat early in the first half. Princeton would counter with a bit of a run of their own to close back up on Hampton and only be down by three at halftime with the score at 41-38 in Hampton's favor. After switching around from a 1-3-1 defense to a man-to-man defense since Hampton was shooting 51% from the floor and men were being left wide open, Princeton would quickly overtake Hampton in the second half as they would take a 10 point lead of their own. Hampton would make a late run in the closing minutes to bring the lead down to just a single point, but Princeton nailed their free throws and, despite two Hampton three pointers made in the final 18 seconds, came away with a four point victory. Tonight's game was ultimately decided at the foul line where Princeton suck 18 of their 10 free throw attempts, adding up to 90% shooting from the line. Hampton didn't do too shabby either as they shot 70% from the foul line, but only had 10 attempts, half that of Princeton. Coach Frizzell commented, "We nailed our free throws, which I was very happy with. We haven't shot free throws very well this year, so it was refreshing to have a good night from the foul line. Hopefully, we can keep it up in round two."

Princeton Key Players
D. Allen - 12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks
F. Djordic - 18 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists
M. Sow - 10 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals
L. Gunn - 12 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists

Hampton Key Players
B. Tunnell - 11 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists
V. Simpson - 15 points, 5 assists
T. Munns - 12 points, 5 rebounds
M. Freeman - 10 points, 8 rebounds

Princeton improves to 2-1 on the year. Coach Frizzell picks up the 20th win of his career as he improves his record to 20-12. Tomorrow, Princeton will take on the Michigan Wolverines (1-0), who bounced UM Milwaukee in the first round 81-73.

Princeton Hangs Around Early, but Falls Big to Wolverines

11/11/08 vs. Michigan (1-0)

Final: 98-81

After being up 40-35 at halftime, Princeton would absolutely fall apart in the second half, as they allowed a stunning 63 points in the second half and were outscored by 22 points leading to a 98-81 victory for the Michigan Wolverines. "It was embarrassing," commented a frustrated Coach Frizzell. "After the great first half performance I really thought we could actually beat Michigan, but we floundered as it was just too good to be. Michigan is probably the toughest team we will face this year, though, so I am not totally disgusted by our performance. We certainly shot the ball very well, though it wouldn't hurt to play a little defense." Both teams shot over 50% in the game. The main difference maker was the offensive rebounds and the three pointers. Princeton was outrebounded on the offensive glass 9-4. Michigan nailed 12/22 from downtown to Princeton's 4/11. Princeton actually shot better than Michigan, as they shot 57% compared to Michigan's 54%, but due to offensive rebounds and a few careless turnovers by Princeton, they allowed Michigan to shoot the ball 64 times to their own 56. Princeton suffered a scare when they were on a run in the first half as Martin Sow went up for a layup, but was fouled and made the basket, setting up a three point play opportunity. However, Sow suffered a pulled quadricep on the play and was forced out of the game. He returned in the second half, but the injury is still nagging him and should continue to do so for another couple of weeks.

Princeton Key Players
R. Rodriguez - 11 points, 3 assists
D. Allen - 11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists
M. Sow - 24 points, 3 rebounds
C. Petrie - 10 points

Michigan Key Players
S. Bruff - 25 points, 7 assists, 2 steals
A. Wright - 34 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists
E. Edoh - 12 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists

With the loss, Princeton falls to 2-2. Coach Frizzell's career record now stands at 20-13. Next, on Saturday, November 15th, Princeton will take on Boston University (0-1).

Free Throws Propel Princeton to Victory

11/15/08 @ Boston University (1-1)

Final: 80-71

Princeton used the foul line to ultimately win the game as they got to the line a stunning 53 times during the game. They would converst 37 of those attempts, as this was the key stat of the game for the Princeton Tigers. Princeton built a 45-34 halftime lead and led by as much as 18 in the second half before letting the lead dissolve to only five points in the final 30 seconds. "We got to the foul line a whole lot," commented Coach Frizzell. "This win was key for us since we needed to get back on track after the Michigan loss. This win was not easy, though, as playing on the road is never and easy thing to do." Princeton only shot 42% in the game, but free throws ultimately gave them the victory.

Princeton Key Players
M. Schroeder - 13 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, 9/10 FT
M. Sow - 12 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals
L. Gunn - 19 points, 3 steals, 10/12 FT

Boston University Key Players
C. Lowe - 24 points, 2 assists
M. Gotzler - 10 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists

Princeton's record now stands at 3-2 as Coach Frizzell improves his career record to 21-13. Princeton will next host Central Connecticut State (0-2) on November 18th.

Also, I will be switching back to 15 minutes for the rest of my games. I am scoring a little too much which is probably due to my fast pace of play. I still love these sliders, though!

Hey does the Princeton offense work for you? Im thinkin about running it at Texas Southern in my next legacy.
Well, I actually sorta abandoned it for a run-and-gun style of offense. I originally ran it in my 10 or so games of this legacy, but I have really had more fun and success playing this way. I don't always run, though, as I really like to pass it to my bigs and let them back down their defender, and either pass the ball out to a shooter or try to score off a hook shot or other post move. I do try to push the ball up the court a lot, though, and try to get open threes off the fastbreak, which I had considerable success in getting Kyle Koncz open for threes last year.

Well, 2K already announced there will be no 2K9. EA didn't actually take the rights for the game away, 2K just discontinued the game because it wasn't making enough money, though I have a feeling it has something to do with EA buying 2K.

Press Conference

Coach Frizzell met with reporters today to discuss how he thinks his team has performed in the first few games. "I think we have played pretty well," he said. "We had a couple rough games against Temple and Michigan, but I still was not too disappointed about those games. In fact, I was somewhat pleased. We were tied at 37 at halftime in the Temple game and were ahead of Michigan 40-35 at halftime in that game, so we played a good first half, we just couldn't finish it off. I have been fairly pleased with our performance thus far."

Coach Frizzell also talked about how he had picked up the pace of his offense this season. "Well, our team this year isn't quite as adept to shoot the three pointer; however, we can run like the wind and have some good big men down low. I told our guys to push the ball up the court more. Marcus Schroeder, our starting point guard, is really having a good time running this type of offense. Last year, we usually walked the ball up court, but he is really having a good time pushing the ball and I think that is showing up on his performance, as he is playing much better than last year so far. Our whole team has played well, in fact, and I think it makes it hard to defend us. But right when you think we are going to run again, we pull the ball up and work a half-court game. I also have stressed getting the ball down to our big men. I think this really gives us a lot of scoring opportunuties, because if the post man can back down the defender a bit, he can either score from the post or draw the double team, in which he can pass the ball out to an open shooter."

Princeton Buckles Up On Defense, Beats Central Connecticut State by 14

11/18/08 vs. Central Connecticut State (0-2)

Final: 62-48

After struggling a bit on defense in their first few games, Princeton buckled up on defense in this one, as they held Central Connecticut State to a season-low 48 points. Princeton only allowed Central Connecticut State to shoot 29%, including only knocking down 6/36 from downtown, or 17%. Princeton didn't exactly have a stellar offensive day either, as they only shot 41%, but it was good enough as solid defense propelled them to a 62-48 victory. Central Connecticut State actually held an early 20-9 lead, but was taken on a ride by Princeton, as the Tigers went on an 18-2 run to end the half up by five, with the score at 27-22. Princeton also held the lead for the entire second half as they cruised to a fairly easy home victory thanks to a stellar defensive effort. Coach Frizzell was impressed with his team's defense, saying, "I was glad to see us finally have a nice game on the defensive side of the ball. The Michigan and Temple games really got on to my nerves, so it was nice to allow Central Connecticut State to only score 48 points. We played man-to-man defense about half the time, but we also mixed in a lot of 1-3-1 zone and 2-3 zone. I really have not used a 2-3 zone much so far in my career, but I have been testing it the last couple of ball games and really like my results, so expect to continue seeing it as a change of pace from our man-to-man and 1-3-1 zones that we have typically run. All in all, it was a very nice effort on our part and a hard earned win!"

Central Connecticut State Key Players
J. Washington - 10 points, 4 assists

R. Rodriguez - 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists
M. Sow - 13 points, 7 rebounds

Princeton improves to 4-2 on the season as Coach Frizzell moves his career record to 22-13. Next up, Princeton travels to the Northeast to take on the New Hampshire Wildcats (1-3) on Saturday, November 22nd.

Actually, I am moving back to 16 minute halves. 15 minutes is just too low now, I will hopefully stay on 16 minutes.

Yeah, i only play at 10 and for me its perfect. no more, no less. for me, it gets too boring with longer halves cuz then i would play less games. plus, ive gotten in the 80s a few times in 10 min quarters and in the 90s once or twice

Well, I try to get realistic field goal percentage and flow to the game. I think I really push the ball a lot, but I really can't get realistic numbers in this game unless I play at least 15 minutes. In the past, I have been able to play on 12 or 13 minutes, but the game is a little different this year (or I am slower), so I have to play 15 or 16.

I get realistic stats with these and though it does get a little long, it's not quite too long. Anything longer than 16 kills me, but 16 is about the limit for me.

Nonetheless, I have an update that will be posted in a minute!!! :)

Princeton's Defense Clamps Down Again as Princeton Begins "Cupcake Brigade"

11/22/08 @ New Hampshire (1-3)

Final: 75-48

Princeton jumped out to an early lead as they lead by 20 points only 10 minutes into the game and led by 23 at halftime as the Princeton Tigers held a 38-15 lead over the New Hamsphire Wildcats as the two teams headed off to the locker room. It seemed as if the same defensive intensity of Princeton's game against Central Connecticut State was carrying over into this game, and it indeed was. New Hampshire only was shooting 24% from the field in the first half and was 0/10 from three point range. New Hampshire would shoot better in the second half as they shot 44% and they would get on a little bit of a run early as Coach Frizzell pulled his starters and New Hampshire cut the lead to 19 points. Coach Frizzell countered by replacing his backups and once again put in his starters, causing Princeton's lead to once again swell, at one point reaching 28 points. Coach Frizzell would pull his starters again halfway through the second half with the game well in hand and the backups got some practice time as Princeton cruised to what was quite possibly the most dominating performance of the James Frizzell era at Princeton, as they beat New Hampshire on the road by 27 points with the score 75-48 in Princeton's favor. "We played a fantastic game and really clamped down on defense," commented a very pleased Coach Frizzell. "We played a lot of man-to-man defense and we frustrated them and we got the victory because of that. We played just about a perfect game and I couldn't be more proud." Princeton hit 51% of their shots compared to New Hampshire's 34% and was dominant at getting to the free throw line, hitting 20/30 from the charity stripe. New Hampshire started the game 0/16 from three, but hit 3 of their last 4 shots to improve to 3/20 for the game, or 15%.

Princeton Key Players
D. Allen - 11 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals
M. Sow - 11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals
L. Gunn - 16 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals
Z. Woolridge - 8 points, 11 rebounds

New Hampshire Key Players
J. Cheslock - 10 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals
C. Nahra - 11 points, 9 rebounds

Princeton improves to 5-2. Coach Frizzell's career record now stands at 23-13 as he moves 10 game ahead of .500. Princeton is very capable of beating the rest of their non-conference opponents as most people consider Princeton to be vastly superior to every opponent that remains on their schedule until conference play begins in January. Next, Princeton will take on Mouth Saint Mary's (1-4) on November 28th.

Princeton Beats Mount Saint Mary's by 10

11/28/08 @ Mount Saint Mary's (1-5)

Final: 66-56

Princeton jumped out to an early lead via some good shooting as they shot 51% in the game. They jumped out to an early lead on Mount Saint Mary's which led to a 35-29 halftime advantage for the Princeton Tigers. The Mountaineers of Mount Saint Mary's could not do much more in the second half as they were not dominated, but certainly kept under control, as they were outscored by four points in the final period of play leading to a comfortable 66-56 win for the Princeton Tigers on the road to close out the month of November. Coach Frizzell commented, "We played well and once again played some very good defense. We were a little careless with the ball as we turned the ball over 11 times and were not good at turning Mount Saint Mary's over as we only forced one turnover. Yes, a single turnover, that's it. Props to them, but luckily we pretty much dominated every other facet of the game except on the offensive boards, which is something we have had trouble with this entire year. We will certainly be looking into that."

Princeton Key Players
D. Allen - 9 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks
F. Djordic - 12 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals
Z. Woolridge - 13 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks

Mount Saint Mary's Key Players
S. Nevill - 17 points, 3 rebounds
J. Cajuo - 6 points, 3 rebounds

Princeton moves to 6-2 on the season. Coach Frizzell's career record now stands at 24-13. Next, Princeton will take on Saint Francis (NY) (2-4) on December 2nd on the road.

Princeton Recovers From Slow Start to Beat Saint Francis in Overtime

12/2/08 @ Saint Francis (NY) (2-5)

Final: 75-68 OT

Princeton got off to a very slow start as they came out very sluggish and found themselves quickly down by 10 points ealrly in the first half. However, after a few timeouts to stop the momentum and the sixth man advantage, Coach Frizzell was able to rally his troops as Princeton embarked on a long run and would find themselves up by four at halftime with the score 33-29 in their favor. Princeton would stay ahead most of the second half, but would not get more than an eight point lead. In the closing minutes Saint Francis mad a late run and would tie the game at 62 after a made basket with only 33 seconds remaining. Coach Frizzell called a timeout with 10 seconds remaining and drew up a play. The play worked well as Martin Sow, who had a double-double, was fouled and would convert both free throws to give Princeton a 64-62 lead with 5.8 seconds remaining. Princeton elected to pressure in the backcourt resulting in a long pass that would somehow in up in Saint Francis' hands. The shot was put up and the basket was drained as the buzzer sounded to tie the game at 64 apiece and send the game to an extra period. Princeton thoroughly dominated overtime as they outscored Saint Francis 11-4 in the extra period to earn a hardfought 75-68 victory on the road. "We came out very slugglish," Coach Frizzell explained. "We really did not play a very good game of basketball at all, we just got lucky Saint Francis had a bad night as well. We played good defense again, but we cannot have such horrific starts if we want to continue winning." Princeton shot 42% from the field to Saint Francis' 35%, but Saint Francis attempted 20 more shots thanks to 34 Princeton free throw attempts, 22 of which were converted. "We have really been getting to the line well," Coach Frizzell commented. "I stressed that we needed to get there often and we have done our job in that sector."

Princeton Key Players
R. Rodriguez - 15 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists
D. Allen - 11 points, 6 rebounds
F. Djordic - 10 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals

Saint Francis Key Players
J. Womack - 10 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals
O. Campbell - 13 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists
R. Cadell - 11 points, 2 assists

Princeton improves to 7-2. Coach Frizzell's career record now stands at 25-13 as he picks up his 25th win of his career with this win. Next up for Princeton is Holy Cross (5-2), whom Princeton will play at home on Saturday, December 6th.

Princeton's Win Streak Halted at Five as They Fall to Holy Cross by 10

12/6/08 vs. Holy Cross (5-3)

Final: 67-77

Princeton came out of the gates rather sluggish once again, but this time never recovered, falling to the Holy Cross Crusaders, who, after beginning the season 5-0, have endured a three game losing streak. Princeton got back in the game late in the first half and was only down 38-36 at halftime, but was outscored by eight points in the second half en route to a 10 points victory for Holy Cross. "That was an embarrassing performance!" exclaimed a livid Coach Frizzell in a post-game news conference. "I told you that if we kept on coming out sluggish, we would eventually lose and we did. We have been so lazy lately and we need to get back to basics. We come out lazy early in the game expecting our talent level to carry us past our opponents, then we realize we actually have to try, then we get it going and still have been able to win the last few games, but not today. We came out lazy and left lazy. We need to try harder. There is nothing worse than a bunch of guys half-heartedly running up and down the court with no passion, desire, or love for the game. We will be ready for our next game. I can assure you of that."

Holy Cross Key Players
L. Dixon - 21 points, 2 assists, 2 steals
Z. Paterick - 13 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals
A. Vander Baan - 20 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals

Princeton Key Players
D. Allen - 14 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists
F. Djordic - 20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists

Princeton falls to 7-3. Coach Frizzell's career record no stands at 25-14. Next up Princeton will play Quinnipiac (3-5) on Monday, December 8th.

Holy Cross isn't that bad of a team. in my old legacy, they made the NCAA tourney at 12-17 and was a #16 seed and only lost to UNC by 3. Most of the teams you have been laying are NEC teams, which was the conferece Long Island was in, so i know a decent amount about Quinnipiac. Let me tell you, they are not very good.

Yeah, this is a great cupcake of a schedule for the most part. Holy Cross is pretty good, though, as you said. I also forgot that my final non-conference game is against Cincinnati, so we probably can go ahead and chalk that up as another loss.

Recruiting Update

I'm really only looking at three guys right now as I only have one scholarship to offer. I am also looking at a few juniors, but here are the seniors that I am looking at.

1. Wendell Lalugba - SF - 6'6" 210 - New Bedford, MA - *** - 82% (Scholarship Offered)
- We lead his list as #1 in front of Rhode Island who is the only other team with interest in him.
2. Jerard Robbins - SF - 6'5 204 - East Rutherford, NJ - ** - 83%
- We are 1st on his list in front of Hartford, Columbia, and Iona
3. Britton Moody - SF - 6'6" 210 - Durham, NC - *** - 74%
- We are 8th on his list, so our chances on this guy are really low right now.

As you can see, I am really going after some small forwards, which we really could use one. We have a power forward starting at small forward right now, so I would really like to get a true small forward with the scholarship.

Princeton Continues Freefall With Loss to Quinnipiac

12/8/08 vs. Quinnicpiac (3-6)

Final: 69-72

Princeton finally played a decent first half in this game with the score tied at 32 as both teams went to the locker room. However, unlike Princeton's previos games, they would play a horrible second half leading to their second home loss in as many games. Princeton would find themselves down by 10 points with only three minutes remaining with the score 62-52. Princeton would find away to nail four three pointers in the closing minutes, but Quinnipiac knocked down their free throws and secured a close victory by a final score of 72-69. Coach Frizzell was once again very disappointed in his team's performance, saying, "We once again played lazily. We finally came alive in the last three of four minutes, but up until then, we played horribly. I can't believe we started 7-2, but now we have dropped two home games in a row. This is ridiculous, plain and simple." Princeton's Renardo Rodriguez was a bright spot for Princeton, however, as he tallied a career-high 25 points in the game, breaking his old career-high of 15 points. He had 14 points in the first half along. Rodriguez also dished out three assists and had 4 steals in the loss.

Quinnipiac Key Players
V. Crafton - 14 points, 4 assists
J. Cruz - 10 points, 4 rebiybds
J. Rutty - 7 points, 16 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals
J. Feideine - 13 points, 2 rebounds

Princeton Key Players
M. Schroeder - 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists
R. Rodriguez - 25 points, 3 assists, 4 steals
F. Djordic - 14 points, 7 rebounds

Princeton falls to 7-4 on the season. Coach Frizzell's career record now stands at 25-15. Next up for the Princeton Tigers will be the Cincinnati Bearcats (3-4) on the road. After that, Princeton will take on American (3-6), Lafayette (7-3), and Utah Valley State (3-9) before beginning Ivy League conference play on January 17th against Cornell (4-2), who they will play two straight games against to open up conference play.

Cincinnati Takes Care of Business Against Princeton at Home

12/20/08 @ Cincinnati (4-4)

Final: 85-73

Princeton hung around most of the game against a Cincinnnati Bearcat team who was clearly the more talented team. Cincinnati jumped out to an early 22-8 lead, but Princeton would find away to hang around and would only be behind by nine points at the half with the score 39-30. The second half would see more scoring as Cincinnati remained around 10 points ahead for most of the half, though they did extend the lead to 18 points once, but Princeton cut the lead down to eight with four minutes remaining. Princeton would get no closer, however, as they would fall to the Cincinnati Bearcats on the road 85-73. Coach Frizzell was fairly pleased with the game, saying, "We played much better than our previous two or three games. Sure, we lost by 12 points, but we did a lot of things right, too. Our offense was much better and our defense was pretty good, too. We did not really expect to beat Cincinnati on the road. They're too good a team for us. However, I hoped to keep the game from becoming a blowout and I think we did a pretty good job of keeping that from happening."

Princeton Key Players
R. Rodriguez - 10 points, 3 rebounds
F. Djordic - 10 points, 3 rebounds
M. Sow - 12 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals

Cincinnati Key Players
D. Vaughn - 21 points, 5 assists
K. Hollis - 12 points, 2 renbounds, 2 steals
A. Mitchell - 25 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists

The Princeton Tigers fall to 7-5. Coach Frizzell's career record now stands at 25-16. Next up, Princeton will take on American (3-6) in 11 days on December 31st, Princeton's final game of 2008.

Princeton Beats American to Halt Three Game Losing Streak

12/31/08 vs. American (4-7)

Final: 64-60

Princeton finally halted the three game losing streak they had embarked on. American was certainly a worthy opponent for them to face. Though American was 4-7 coming into this game, they certainly had the talent to compete with a lot of teams. American would jump out on top in the early going as it looked to be yet another long day for Princeton. However, Princeton would not let this game get away as they pulled within five points as the buzzer sounded and the teams headed off to the locker rooms for halftime. After a fiery halftime speech by Coach Frizzell in the locker room, Princeton would come out with a renewed vengeance in the second half, as they would outscore American by nine points en route to a 64-60 victory. "We needed this win bad," commented Coach Frizzell in a post-game interview. "We had really been slipping. We got after it on the defensive side of the ball in the second half and on the offensive side, a total team effort on both sides of the ball, which was certainly what we needed. All in all, it was a fine game." Lincoln Gunn came from out of the woodwork in this game to score a career-high 25 points in the win. Gunn had proved to be a worthy sixth-man early on this season, but had been struggling mightily lately. However, he got his shots to fall in this one and propelled Princeton to victory.

American Key Players
F. Borden - 13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals
G. Carr - 13 points

Princeton Key Players
L. Gunn - 25 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals
Z. Woolridge - 10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists

Princeton improves to 8-5 on the season after this much needed win. Coach Frizzell's record now stands at 26-16 after tonight's game. Next up for the Princeton Tigers is Lafayette (7-6) on Sunday, January 4th, 2009.

Princeton Dominates Lafayette 87-64

1/4/09 vs. Lafayette (8-6)

Final: 87-64

Princeton absolutely dominated this game from start to finish. From the opening tip to the final buzzer, Princeton never trailed as they held the lead for the entire lead in this dominating effort. Both Princeton and Lafayette shot over 50% from the floor, but the key was turnovers, where Princeton absolutely dominated. Coach Frizzell always values taking care of the basketball and his team always values the ball. That couldn't be more true in this game as Princeton only turned the ball over nine times and forced 22 Lafayette turnovers on the other end of the floor. "We really got out in the passing lanes and clogged them up and it really destroyed Lafayette's offense," commented Coach Frizzell after the game. "We shot well and executed well offensively, too. Anytime you can shoot over 50% from the field, you are donig pretty fine." Princeton had five players in double-figures in the game as they used a balanced attack to score a season-high 87 points.

Lafayette Key Players

The key however, was a stat in which Princeton has struggled at times with this season, as they out rebounded Utah Valley State 50-28. Clutch Shots Seal Win for Princeton

1/17/09 @ Cornell (8-5)

Final: 76-72

This was an exciting game that came down to the final minute to decide the winner. Princeton jumped out front early on and looked ready to romp Cornell as they did to Utah Valley State in the previous game. That would not happen, however, as Cornell would battle back to a six point halftime deficit with the score 35-29 in Princeton's favor. Princeton would hold the lead for much of the second half, until some clutch shots by Cornell put them up by one point with one minute remaining. Coach Frizzell elected to put the ball in Renardo Rodriguez's hands, who had 18 points in the game and has arguably been Princeton's best player for the past few games. Coach Frizzell called for some isolation and Rodriguez worked his man, driving towards the basket, then pulling up for a fade away 14 footer which bounced off the front of the rim, then against the backboard before finally landing in the bottom of the net for a score. Chris Petrie somehow stole Cornell's inbounds pass and converted it for a score to make the score 73-70. Cornell would score on the ensuing possession to make the score 73-72 with 38 seconds left. Princeton would get the ball for the entire shot clock, then Cornell would get one last chance. With the shot clock running down and Princeton up by one, Renardo Rodriguez drove towards the basket, then found a wide open Marcus Schroeder for a three pointer from the elbow which made the score 76-72 with five seconds left, all but sealing the game. "What a great performance by our guys," Coach Frizzell told a reporter after the game. "We really came through in the clutch there and our young guys performed. It was an exciting game. It's nice to open up Ivy League conference play with a win, especially on the road." Princeton out-shot Cornell 51% to 38%, but Cornell hit 10 three pointers to Princeton's two and had five less turnovers than Princeton, which ultimately kept Cornell in the game until the end, despite the vast gap in shooting percentage between the two teams.
