View Full Version : Freezing - Explain this one doubters

So I posted earlier about my game freezing and most of the feedback was useless, people talking sh*t, etc. Keep in mind that I exchanged my original copy this morning for a new one in case the 1st disc I got was a defect.
So for those of you who think this game doesn't have a big freezing glitch, explain this one to me. After experiencing all the freezing I have been having, I took out 2K5 and played a full game of madden with no problems. Then I watched the first half hour of a DVD with no problems.
Then I put 2K5 back in. No memory cards, no third party controllers. Just one original Sony controller and the game.
As usual, I was able to navigate through all the menus, the manuals, the rosters, etc. with no freezing problems.
Then I left it on for 4 hours. When I came back, everything looked fine. Background music still playing, I could still change rosters, read manuals, etc.
So I decided to give it a go and load up a game. As soon as I passed the controller select screen....BAM....frozen again.
Now for all you doubters, explain to me how this isn't a glitch. BTW if there is anyone in San Diego who isn't having this problem, let me know if you'd like to trade discs with me and prove me wrong.

Yes I have cleaned my lens. Quite a few times actually.
The point is that the game loads, reads, etc fine until I try to hit the field and then no dice.
Software problem. It's either telling my PS2 to do something it doesn't know how to do, or it is telling my PS2 to do so many things at the same time it can't handle all the commande and it freezes. Technically that is what happens when something freezes.

There could be a memory leak in the code on the PS2 version. One thing i've found is that idle programs, don't ask me why, seem to have a tendency to freeze more than active ones. I think that when it's active theres more cleanup being performed. Or garbage collection for you old head programmers.

i dont know man, If it was a glitch it would be in every game, i have the ps2 version and it never has frozeen on me at all, some lag occasionally in an online game but no freezing in regular or online play. and ive played about 25 online games and about 10 offline.

His PS2 is overheating and causing the freezes... My PSOne use to do this all the time when I played it. For one, never leave your PS2 sittng on a carpeted surface, lint will get sucked in the fan causing problems down the road. Some friends of mine even had to have an extra fan blow on the console just to keep it from overheating. Don't blame the PS2's problems on VC.

yeah, it might be your ps2.

My PS2 is not overheating. It's in a completely open space on a wood floor. It does not feel hot.
The freezing happens whether I leave it on for 4 hours, or whether I try to play a game right when I turn on my cold PS2.
The point of me leaving it on for 4 hours was to prove that the freezing only happens when I try to play a game.
If my PS2 was overheating, then why does 2K5 freeze, but then I can put madden right in with no cool down time and it works fine?
Thank you, please drive through. Next order please.

perhaps it's the type of disc used.I know alot of ps2's that play a game then freeze on others. This will usually result in the dreaded disc read error. Trust me, this has happened to me. I remember i was playing NHL2k3 and it worked perfectly then i bought fifa 2003 and the ps2 would freeze and make weird noises, but when i put NHL2k3 back in it played just fine. Anyhow i have the ps2 version of ESPN and it has't froze once.

I haven't gotten the Disc read error but I know what you mean.
What you said makes sense, and it's what I have been saying all along...this game is messed up and it's the manufacturer's bad not my PS2. There are just too many people posting on here with freezing problems and I doubt we all have dirty lenses that only affect 2K5 and no other games or dvd's.
The only other thing I can think of that makes sense is that the game just isn't fully compatible with older PS2's because they probably have an older processor and firmware. So when they tested it, they did all their testing on new PS2's and didn't think to stick it in a 3 year old console like mine and make sure it works.

Why, are you so eager to make this thing a glitch. If it is, or not, leave it alone. This like your 100th post talking about, glitch..glitch, it's a glitch. If no believes you, it could because there is nothing wrong with their game. And there was a dude in your area who said he didn't have a glitch, check your old posts.

dude, said it may be the type of disc not the game, the type of disc used, not the game. Say this in your head, "it is not the game."

Yup I saw the other guy in diego who isn't having the problem. we'll see if his still works tomorrow.
The reason I am posting is because I would like to find out what the problem is. I don't really care if you call it a "glitch" or not. As far as i'm concerned it's defective. I have gotten some good ideas like don't use 3rd party controllers, etc. If this advice would have worked then i'd be playing right now. But it still doesn't work.
If it's the type of disc used, then isn't that their f-up? It was their bad in using discs that aren't compatible with my PS2.
I'm not the only one with this problem. I'd like to know if it's going to get patched or not because the game looks cool. If it's going to get patched in the next week i'll keep it and give it another shot but if not it's getting returned.

If it is the disc, take that back and get a new one, maybe the new is a good disc.

Then I left it on for 4 hours.
How about leaving on Madden for 4 hours then try it, or leave your DVD movie for 4 hours, then try it. You're going nowhere fast.
Buy a new PS2/XBOX, i feel sorry for you, you're still trying to play ESPN when God's signs intends for you not to.

Do you need need to leave your system on for 4 hours? Why? "
Agent Smith: Why, Mr. Abenjami? Why do you do it? Why get up? Why keep fighting? Do you believe youīre fighting for something? For more that your survival? Can you tell me what it is? Do you even know? Is it freedom? Or truth? Perhaps espn? Yes? No? Could it be for love? Illusions, Mr. Abenjami, vagaries of perception. The temporary abstracts of a feeble human intellect trying desperately to justify an existence that is without meaning or purpose. And all of them as artificial as the Madden itself, although only a human mind could invent something as insipid as love. You must be able to see it, Mr. Abenjami. You must know it by now. You canīt win. Itīs pointless to keep fighting. Why, Mr. Abenjami? Why? Why do you persist?
abenjami: Because I choose to.

I choose to keep fighting because 2K5 doesn't fu*king work and I can't play it. Otherwise I wouldn't be on this message board, i'd be playing the game.

I have the PS2 version and it always freezes in the third quarter whenever I am winning. I have yet to have it freeze when I am behind. THe game will freeze and keep replaying the same dialog over and over.
The lens is clean and I do not have any problems with any other games.

Have you tried........
How about leaving on Madden for 4 hours then try it, or leave your DVD movie for 4 hours, then try it.
After that, and it proves that ESPN does not work FOR you, SELL your ESPN and just wait for Madden then. EASY AND SIMPLE.
