TEXAS STATE ANNOUNCES NEW HEAD COACH

It took only 1 year for Coach Davalos to turn around a program who hadn't had alot of success in recent times. Coach Davalos took the Bobcats from 3 wins to 9 wins in the course of one season and also had great success in signing 4 players that will be the heart and soul of the Bobcats for the next 4 years. This success however was well rewarded as several larger programs looked to add the coach to their staff. With Coach Davalos leaving the Bobcats turned their attention to finding his replacement. They found that replacement in the form of a 25 yr old man with no previous head coaching expierence but a passion for life and to see people succeed in all walk life.

The new head coach is BJ Scott. Coach Scott has no previous head coaching expierence but he did spend a short time on the staff of Coach Andy Akpan at Texas Southern and also was on staff with Coach Dezaron at Boise State. Coach Scott has decided to keep his assistant coaches from Coach Davalos staff that helped bring in a Top 40 class last season

This will be my last legacy. I picked up MLB2K8 but have decided to keep 1 legacy going throughout the year until we know the fate of the 2009 season. I wasn't going to keep one going, but I have really enjoyed following everyone legacy and getting to know some of you here on the boards. I hope you will all continue to follow. Don't worry Coach Scott has no plans to head to Boise even if they open up. His plans are to stay and make Texas State into a national power. They have the facilities and the location to be a powerhouse in the state of Texas.

INTERVIEW WITH COACH SCOTT

Question-As a 1st year head coach what are your goals?

Scott- I have several goals I would like to accomplish in year 1.

1-Win the 100 Club Tourney
2-Win at least 10 games
3-Sign a 3* Recruit
4-Finish in the Top 5 of the conference
5-Go atleast .500 against my non-confernce opponnents.

Question- Your non-conference schedule is made up of all Texas schools. Do you plan to leave the state anytime soon?

Scott--I told the A.D. that my goal was 1st to prove that we are the best school in Texas. To prove that I feel like we need to beat the best schools in Texas. Its going to be a battle especially being how most of them won't come to San Marcus, but I believe it is still the best plan of action.

Question-Your team is very young how many scholarships do you have to offer this season and do you see some needs on this team?

Scott-Well with only 11 scholarship players and 3 of them seniors we have 5 scholarships to offer. All 5 of our starters will be returning for year 2 and with White already on board to backup the PG and SG and Mosley and Rybak to play the 3, my main goal will be to add a couple of bigmen and also a couple more shooters to take over for Holder who will be graduating.

Question-What type of offense do you run?

Scott-We run a very uptempo(90) offense that likes to get out on the break(80) but yet still crashes the boards(75). We have alot of great 3pt shooters, so I look for us to take anywhere from 20-30 3pt shots a game. We will score points, the question is can we keep others from doing the same.

COACH SCOTT GETS VICTORY #1 IN HIS 1ST GAME

Going up against Houston, Coach Scott knew he would have his hands full. The Cougars can flat out shoot the 3, so this came had the script of a barn burner written all over it.
Neither team disappointed in the scoring column as the Cougars of Houston took a 40-38 lead into the half. However in the 2nd half Fr sensation C. Johnson used his size and quickness to slash through the defense on his way to scoring a team high 22 pts(18 in the 2nd half) and grabbed a team high 14 rebounds lead the Bobcats to a 85-71 victory and a player of the game award.

Yeah I love shooting the 3 so this team fits my style perfect. I love the fact that they have a solid group of Freshman on the roster already too. The schedule will be tough but I figure if I can pull out a few upsets over UTEP,SMU,North Texas ect... That will be huge for me recruiting.

TEXAS STATE WINS 100 CLUB

Coach Scott earned the valuable coaching attribute point with his 1st in season conference tourney win. In opening round action the Bobcats took on Colgate. The Bobcats used a balance attack with 4 players getting into double digits. Leading the say was Fr J. Sloan with 15 pts and 7 rebounds, winning the POG. Colgate was led by Roemer 19 pts 8 reb. Final Score 79-76.

Texas StateGough-13 pts 4 reb
Bush 13 pts 2/3 3pt
Jefferson-2 pts 10 asst
White 11 pts 5 asst 1/3 3pt

In the Championship game the Bobcats took on Kennesaw St. Once again the balanced attack of the Bobcats was to much to handle as another Fr led the way. T Grough led the team with 19 pts and 6 reb winning POG but 4 other players had great games as well.

Texas State
Sloan 15 pts 4 reb
C. Johnson 8 pts 13 reb
Agwumaro-18pts
Mosley-14 pts 3/4 3pt

Kennesaw St
Wotten-32 pts 9 reb 6/11 3pt
Stegall-18 pts 11 reb

After the game we caught up with Coach Scott.

Reporter-So Coach the season is off to a great start. Did you ever think it would go this good?

Coach Scott-Never in my mind did I think we would start out this well. After the Houston game I knew this team had talent and I felt we matched up well against Colgate and Kennesaw St, so I felt like we had a chance but this is just to much to take in right now.

Reporter-So Coach you have had 3 different Freshman led you to wins. How big is that for the future of Bobcat basketball?

Coach Scott-Its huge. I knew these guys could play. There is a reason why the recruiting class was ranked in the Top 40 last year, but I didn't realize how good. Jefferson is doing a amazing up running the point. Bush is doing a little of everything, but Johnson,Sloan, and Grough are just tough inside getting points and rebounds with ease.

Next up the Bobcats head home to play their home opener against Texas-Pan AM (1-2)

BOBCATS BATTLE BACK IN 2ND HALF TO WIN HOME OPENER

Down 39-46 at the half, the Bobcats were battled back under the play of Jr B. Bush and his 17 pts(9 pts 2/3 in the 2nd half). With 15 seconds left on the clock and the game tied, Coach Scott drew up the play. The ball would go to Fr. C. Johnson on the wing to create the game winning shot. With 5 seconds left Jonhson was able to spin away from the defender and pulled up on the baseline for a 8 ft jumper. The ball was up and good. The Bobcats win it in regulation 84-82

Texas State
Jefferson-16 pts 6 asst
Agwumaro-13 pts
Johnson-8 pts 10 reb

TEXAS PAN AM
Burrell-23 pts 3/4 3pt
Jones-18 pts 8 reb

After the game we asked Coach Scott about his decision to go with Johnson on the winning shot.

Scott-" In most cases Bush would be the guy taking that shot, but he was being doubled up almost the enitre last 4 mins of the game, so I knew that even though he could probably get off a shot, we were better to look to someone else. Johnson is going to be that guy. I hope that he will turn into my go-to guy for the next 4 years but we wills see."

BOBCATS CAN'T UPSET THE GIANTS AND LOSE 2 IN ROW

In the 1st of the 2 biggest games of the year the Bobcat took on the Aggies of Texas A&M. Playing against more talented players showed tonight as the Aggies were able to shut down the Bobcats on offense. Fr. R. White did have another amazing performance with 21 pts and 5/6 3pt but was the only player to make double digits. The Aggies on the other hand used a balance attack led by Kirks 10 pts 7 reb and 5 asst.

In the 2nd game of the week the Bobcats headed to take on the powerfull Longhorns of Texas. The Bobcats made a game of it trailing by 3 at the half, it looked like they might be able to pull of the upset of the year. However the Longhorns went on a 12-2 run to start the half and the Bobcats had to battle back down by 13. Battle back they would as Holder came off the bench to hit 2 huge 3's and Bush added 2 more after staring out 0-4 , but in the end it was the (5-3) Longhorns who victorious. Final score 80-86

Texas State
Holder-15 pts 3/5 3pt

Well I am taking off for a few. I stayed up way to late last night after watching my Broncos lose to Louisville playing out the 1st year of this season. I have the rest of my non-conference schedule played, so I will post them last tonight or tomorrow along with Top 25 polls, and how the rest of the Southland conference did as well as player stats.

I must say I am very impressed with this team. I have always used Texas Southern but this team fits my style so much better and I am excited about turning them into a powerhouse program. I don't plan on moving anytime soon. My hopes are that I can turn this program into the powerhouse of Texas basketball before leaving. Guess we will see.

Playing on MOP with 12 min halfs. Still using a combo of Key and Cincys sliders.

However I have found that the more I play the more I can find ways to win sometimes against teams I probably should be losing too. It helps that this team has so many guys that can shoot the ball and that I have good size. Normally that is a problem going against bigger schools until you have had a few years to bring in big guys but with my starting lineup already has 4 guys taller then 6'7.

Ive had a l;egacy with Texas State before, arent hey just such a great team to play with, they have a nice mix of shooters and defense. White is a beastly scorer off the bench. My starters were Jefferson, Bush, Moseley at SF, Johnson at PF and Sloan at C. I beat both Texas and A+M, but somehow lost to Kennesaw State, don't ask me how, but good job using the easiest team to win with

Whats sad about the Broncos is this really was there year. With so many seniors they are going to have a really hard time next season. Its like the stars aligned this year except we didn't win on senior night thus we had to share the WAC title instead of winning it outright. I just hope it doesn't take us another 10 yrs before we make it back.

BOBCATS PULL OFF ANOTHER UPSET.

Going up against the TCU who was off to a 6-1 start, Coach Scott new he had his work cut out for him. The Frogs and Bobcats would battle in the 1st half to a 30-30 tie. The 2nd half started out very much the same as neither team would ever have more then a 4 pt lead. With less then a minute left in the game the Bobcats took a 1 pt lead. With 20 seconds left the Frogs had a chance to run out the clock and take the last second shot, but Coach Scott had other plans. Instead he fouled forcing the Frogs to the line in order to get the ball back. TCU missed the 1st FT but hit the 2nd bringing the game to a 65-65 tie. With the Bobcats struggling from the outside, Coach Scott new that the Frogs would double up anything inside. The play was drawn up and Jr. D. Mosley who is shooting over 40% from 3pt on the season is given the opportunity to play hero tonight. Its the PG Loop a play that Coach Scott took from Coach Dezaron and Akpan. Mosley to Jefferson, Jefferson into Sloan and Sloan kicks it back over to Mosely for the wide open 3. The ball is up and in and the buzzer sounds. The Bobcats pull out the 68-65 win.

TEXAS STATE
White 11 pts only 1/7 3pt
Bush 10 pts 2/10 3pt
Mosley 8 pts 2/3 3pt

TCU

After the game we talked with Coach Scott.

Reporter-Coach you really struggled from the arc tonight what went wrong?

Coach Scott-When you make your living shooting the 3 you just never know. Some nights you are on fire and other nights you are off. It doesn't help that we are in the middle of a 6 game road trip. Shooting in a different gym each night sometimes can throw off your shot.
But overall I am happy this was a huge win. Now if we can just keep it up

Next up the (8-2) Bobcats travel to take on a (4-3) SMU team that can flat out shoot the ball.

In the 2nd half both teams continued to light it up and the Bobcats where just not ever able to erase the 5 pt deficit. Final Score 80-88. The Mustangs hit a 3 at the end of the game to make to give them a 9-14 night beyond the arc, well the Bobcats shot 10-17.

Yeah I took Missouri State to 2 Final Fours and got 1 Championship Title, but after a loss in the Final Four in my 11th season I wanted a change. I was the overall #1 seed in the tourney too cause I scheduled the hardest Non Conference Shcedule ever lol and only had 1 loss to Notre Dame. So when Coach Jacks was looking at the jobs, some big schools like Texas (95!!!) and UNC (88) were asking him to go there but he saw Gonzaga which was like 76 overall lol. So he decided to go to the West Coast and rebuild them. So now the Zags are 8-2 with losses to Michigan State (Defending Champs) and San Diego State (91 overall but not ranked) but big wins against #15 Boston College and another team that was a 91 overall rating that I can't remember. And yet they are still not in the top 25 Mid-Major Poll. My highest rated player is a 78 sophomore and my next best player is a 70 lol. But everyone has a specific thing that they do good so I use them to the fullest. I may have to up the Sliders a bit though. Even though Michigan State beat me by like 18.

So yeah I know you didn't ask for like a whole novel about my legacy with Coach Jacks, but I was just informing you lol. Oh and I play EVERY game now and I'm glad I got into the habit of it cause it is much more fun.

By the way I think you would like to hear this but my team only has people from the West Coast lol. I think 8 from the state of Washington itself, 1 from Oregon, and 1 from Canada lol. I thought Andy and Dezaron would like to hear that the West is sticking to its roots lol.

Now back to you cause this is your legacy. I'm sure you'll be able to land some good recruits cause you always seem to. Especially when you're at a Texas school. I'm predicting 3 3*'s for the core of your recruiting class this year.

Yeah I'm mad at you for putting that kind of pressure on me lol. Jk but that is crazy for just your third year to get that. You must have accomplished alot in your 2 years at Texas State.

Okay so I have pretty much PM everyone who has been following and have gotten alot of good feedback. Like most of you know I have finished out season 1 with the Bobcats and simmed ahead to see what schools opened up and was offered 1 of my Top-5 dream jobs. Coach Few was offered the job in Arizona replacing Olson and after several jobs openings where filled I was offered the heading coaching job at Gonzaga(campus 10 mins from my house)

So with that said here is a recap of what happened at Texas State. Year 1 I finished 22-11 winning the Southland Tourney after finishing 3rd in the conference. I lost my 1st round matchup against Miami FL. However throughout the year I accomplished several goals, gaining 5 attribute points. I had a very good recruiting class landing 3-3* including 1 world recruit, adding another attribute point for next season. Season 2 I had the same starting lineup and my team went 25-7 winning the confernce and the conference tourney. This time I got a 1st round matchup with Duke which I lost. However again I accomplished 4 more goals to go along with my world recruit point. So with 5 more attributes Coach Scott is well on his way to becoming a top coach in the nation.

I will now start posting with Gonzaga.

GONZAGA ANNOUNCES NEW HEAD COACH

The City and University where shocked when Coach Few accepted the head coaching job at Arizona but it didn't take them long to find their new head coach. We now go to A.D. Mike Roth live inside the Kennel on the campus of the Gonzaga Bulldogs

A.D. ROTH-"Thank you for coming. I know yesterday was a shock to many of you, I know it was for me. However today we start the 1st day of a new legacy here in Spokane. I am pleased to annouce that B.J. Scott has accepted the offer to be the next head coach of your Gonzaga Bulldogs. Coach Scott is a very bright and exciting coach. Only 27 yrs old, he has only been a head coach for 2 seasons but he has made the best of those 2 years. In his 2 years at Texas State he compliled a 47-18 record including 2 appearences in the NCAA tourney. He is a amazing recruiter and brings a exciting uptemp offense that will allow us to play with the best in the country."

Coach Scott"Thank you Mike for those kind words. I am excited about this opportunity. Never in my mind did I think this job would be available so soon. We have a amazing team and I see no reason why we can't keep the streak of 11 straight years going to the NCAA tourney here at Gonzaga.

Reporter-Coach Scott, is it true that Coach Few took 1 of his recruits with him when he left?(I. Ward a 5* AA rated #3 overall and #1 SF from Spokane WA)

Scott-From what I undestand, Ward had never officially signed with the Zags, so when Coach Few was named head coach at Arizona, Ward having wanted to play for Coach Few jumped at the chance to follow him to Arizona. However I am very excited about those players who did sign and who have agreed to play for the Zags next season.

Reporter-When do we get to see the roster?

Scott-I believe that the media guide will be available sometime in the next day or 2. In the guide will be my ratings along with the ratings of my new assistant coaches, the 2009-2010 Schedule,Roster/starting lineup,West Coast Projections,The Best of the West Coast Conference, and the Media Preseason Top 25.

Reporter-Wow I am totally looking forward to it.

It was actually a really close game. I simmed it and only lost by 6 pts. Reminded me of the Belmont game. Except I was a 11 seed.

I would but Niang is just so amazing I couldn't sit him and Bouldin is a senior so Gray will still be able to start next season, plus it gives me instant offense off the bench. Normally I run a 10 man team but so far in the 3 games I played I pretty much have gone with a 8 man rotation. With Appleby,Gray and Foster off the bench unless I need a defensive stopper then Gurganious gets in.

I know you are sad because I moved Daye to PF but don't worry he dominates. He is quick and opens up the post for Sacre because he can draw his defender out to the 3pt line. Trust me when I am done with Daye he will go from a dark horse to a 1st rounder with ease.

WINNING WAYS CONTINUE FOR COACH SCOTT AND THE ZAGS

Scheduling E. Washington and Idaho for the 1st 2 games of the season accomplish several things for Coach Scott and the Gonzaga program. 1) It gives the locals a chance to see how their teams would fair against the mighty Bulldogs. 2) It give the Coach Scott a chance to get a feel for his team before traveling to take on Coach Few and his mighty Arizona Wildcats(#1 recruiting class in the nation last year and still have Bayliss)

GONZAGA- 107 EASTERN WASHINGTON- 72

The Eagles actually played very well in the 1st half going into the locker room down 51-41. However in the 2nd half the Erwin and Daye took over helping build a 20 pt lead, Coach Scott pulled the starters giving him a chance to see what the bench could do.

GONZAGA
Daye 23 pts 9 reb 3 asst 3/5 3pt (POG
Erwin 22 pts 3/8 3pt
Bouldin-10 pts 5 rbs 6 asst
Niang-6 pts 9 reb
Gray-16 pts 3 asst 1/6 3pt(???)
Sacre-11 pts 4 reb
Foster-0 pts 11 rebs 3 blks

EWU
Moore-20 pts 6 reb
Cooley-15 pts 8 reb
Bethel-12 pts 4 assist

Coach Scott take on the game-"Overall I was very impressed with how we played. Gray and Erwin struggled a bit from beyond the arc but overall I felt we played well. Daye showed me what I knew he had and that is the ability to use his taller lean body to take advantage of mismatches. I felt the Eagles played well and have some hope for the future. Betheal is only a SO and at 6'3 should do well in the Big Sky and Cooley is a huge body 6'11 and also only a SO. I am somewhat shocked Coach Few let Moore get away(Local Spokane kid) I expect him to be a 1st team Big Sky player.

GONZAGA 92 IDAHO 59

Again the Zags allow a team to stay close in the 1st half 44-35, before blowing them away in the 2nd half 48-24. The Vandals were just outmatched.

GONZAGA
Daye 26 pts 3 rbs 1/3 3pt (POG)
Niang-21 pts 5rbs 2/5 3pt
Erwin-10 pts 5 asst 1/2 3pt

IDAHO
Rios-10 pts 2/5 3pt
Thomas-10 pts 8 reb

Coach Scott take-"Again Daye shows he can be a star and Niang showed he too will be a big time contributer in his freshman season. Idhao is very young 3 FR and 2 So all 3* recruits, so they are in the process of getting things turned around. I still look for them to struggle this year in the WAC but in 2 or 3 yrs should have a decent team.

Most of them come on their own. Most emo kids I deal with our kids looking for someone to say that they are worth something and kids who get zero attention or love from their parents. Its actually pretty sad. Personally I can undestand why some kids would want to end their lifes. I might want to do the same if I had to live in the same conditions that they do. However I have also found the reason why more and more kids are doing it or claiming to be a emo is because they just want to feel like they fit in somewhere.

What ever happen to the days of the jocks, nerds, want to be gangster, druggie, hippy, grunge I don't know, but I must say that do have some pretty sweat dance moves

ZAGS BLOW 1ST HALF LEAD AND FALL TO FORMER COACH

It appeared that the Zags had this game all but wrapped up after the 1st half going into the locker room with a 48-33 lead. However in the 2nd half not wanting to run up the score Coach Scott inserted the bench, however Coach Few and the Wildcats were not even close to giving up. With less then 3 mins left they had erased the lead and actually built a 4 pt lead. The Zag starters reentered the game but where never able to get back into a grove and in the end the Zags lost. Final Score 81-74 Arizona wins

After the game we talked with Coach Scott-"I take total blame for how we played in the 2nd half. I should've put the starters back in as soon as they even got within 4pts. I just hope the guys can forgive me for my brain-dead mistake.

GONZAGA

CAN GONZAGA TAKE HOME THE HARDWARE?

Coming off a tough loss in Arizona, Coach Scott and the Zags struggles yet again. Playing against a Portland St team that couldn't match up offensely many thought this would be a breeze of a game, but the Vikings and their defense had other ideas. Both teams struggled to get things going finishing the 1st half with the Zags up 32-28. In the 2nd half it was very much the same game, with the Zags just barely holding onto the 69-64 win.

GONZAGA
Daye-21 pts 7 reb 3/6 3pt
Niang-0pts 9 reb 0-4 FG fouled out early 2nd half.
Bouldin-12 pts 8 reb 5 asst 1/4 3pt

GONZAGA VS TEXAS TECH IN ROUND 2

With both teams playing with new head coaches, some wonder what type of game would be seen by these two teams. Especially after the Zags were held to 69 pts by the Portalnd St Vikings.

Well this was a totally different game as both teams cam out on fire hitting shot after shot.
The Zags took a 52-46 lead into the half and were feeling like nothing could go wrong. In the 2nd half the Red Raiders continued to use there entire team to score points but it just wasn't enough as the Zags behind the play of R. Sacre in the post and S. Gray on the outside continued to pour it on. Final Score 101-87

GONZAGA
Sacre-21 pts 8 reb
Gray-17 pts 3/4 3pt
Daye-15 pts 7 reb
Erwin-12pts 5 asst 2/4 3pt
Niang-8 pts 10 reb 2/6 3pt(continues to get stupid fouls called on him if I am not controllin him)

TEXAS TECH
7 players in double digits but nobody with more then 12.

GONZAGA VS (4-1-) MICHIGAN

In the Championship game we got a amazing game. Similar to the Texas Tech game both teams were hitting shot after shot. Many fans could be heard yelling where is the D?? throught the crowds. The Zags once again led at the half 46-42. The 2nd half was almost a mirror image as both teams continued to run, run and run some more. With only 20 seconds left the game was tied 88-88 and the Zags had the ball. Coach Scott pulled everyone in for 1 last timeout and drew out the play. With Niang foulded out, L. Gurgainous would inbound the ball to Erwin. Erwin dribbled to the top of the key and proceed to let the clock run down with 10 seconds left he started his drive to the hoop and as the doulbe team came dished to A. There are times I forget I am not at Boise and start to type Broncos win or something like that. Guess no matter where I coach or who is my coach they will always be linked to Boise :)

As far as the schedule goes, that was actually something Coach Few is pretty well known for. To get Gonzaga on the map of college basketball he had to be willing to go play anyone anywhere. Not to many teams are willing to come to Spokane to play in the Kennel. The other problem is the University wanted sellout crowds so when they built it they kept it small 6,000. So when I big school does play the Zags alot of times its on a neatural court. We played Tennessee in Seattle and Memphis and Georgia in the Spokane Arena where they hold the NCAA's because you can get 14,000 in there.

In my legacy I plan to keep up the rivalary with Washington and Washington State plus use games with Eastern and Idaho to keep the locals happy. Other then that I plan to use whatever big games the computer wants to give me. This year it was W. Virginia and Syracuse at home and Texas and Duke on the road. I added the Cal,Xaiver,Arizona game do to the coaching rivalarys I have and the Boise St and Utah St do to the WAC ties.

I was very happy with the wins in the tourney. Alot of times you don't always get good games or tough opponents, so it was good to be able to go up against Texas Tech and Michigan. Helped me get back on track.

I hope to catch up tonight with my non-conference games before I head out of town for the next 4 days. Have my annual trip to Seattle to watch the M's on opening day.

A very good game with 2 great teams. Both teams showed they could put the ball in the hoop with the Zags taking a 38-34 lead into the half. In the 2nd half there was no stopping the Zags offense as they drop 50 on the Huskies winning the game 88-79

COACH SCOTT LANDS BIG TIME RECRUIT

Coming into the year the Zags had 3 scholarships available. With Boudlin,Gurganious and Foster all graduating, Coach Scott looked to add a SG,C and a combo SF/PF to replace them.

Today we are happy to announce that he has filled his SG spot.

Mason Myers is a 6'5 SG from Vancouver CN. Ranked #13 overall and #4 at his pos he is a 5* recruit.

Coach Coach take on Myers:"He is a smart kid. We rated him a A' Intelligence, he is also very Athletic(A-) He is also very gifted in shooting and defense(A- and A) His skills rated out at B+ and he is even a pretty decent rebounder(B) The only thing we are unsure of at this time is his overall potential. At this point I see him challenging for a starting role next season with S. Gray or possibly coming off the bench and playing both the 2 and the 3.

The Zags are also currently very close to signing Alex Mallory a 6'9 C from Seattle WA. Mallory is rated a 3* #242 overall but the #17 C. He is currently 98% and has the Zags #1 with Eastern,Portland and Portland St all going after his services.

The third scolarship is currently being held on to as Coach Scott waits to see what other possible big time players might fail to land a scholarship at a bigger school.

Other noteable signings.
West Coast
Loyola Marymount- 2 3* JC PG
Pepperdine-Nobody
Portland- 4* PG #37/16 3*-SF #125 overall

GONZAGA LOSES TOUGH BATTLE TO RIVAL COUGARS ON HOME COURT. FANS ARE NOT HAPPY

This was a tough loss no matter who it was. Fans in Spokane have grown accustom to never seeing the Zags lose in the Kennel and having it against the Cougars made it even worse. T. Bennett and the Cougs had their defense working tonight holding the Zags to 28 1st half pts. (28-32). In the 2nd half things continued to be tight and the Zags struggled to find open looks from the arc and ended up shooting 6/20 vs the Cougs 11/31. With less then a min to play though it looked like the Zags might still have a chance. S. Gray hit a 3 to bring the Zags within 1. However the Cougs would hold the ball in attempts to run out the clock, the Zags had to foul several times before finally sending them to the line. Q. Watts hit both FT giving the Cougs a 3pt lead with only 4 seconds left on the clock. M. Bouldin took a desperation 3pt shot that came up short and the the Cougars held on for a 60-59 win.

After the game we talked to Coach Scott-"That was a tough loss tonight. I knew coming here that the fans had high expectations and following in the footsteps of Coach Few it was like I was replacing a legend, but I don't think I have ever heard so many fans calling for my head before. I think they forgot that we were 7-1 and ranked #25 in the poll?? Oh well there is not much I can say. I have a ton of respect for how Coach Bennett has been able to play that style of basketball and win games. Its not fun going out and scoring 60 but I guess if that is all it takes to win games then thats all that matters.

Looking to not get killed by the fans. Coach Scott and the Bulldogs came out on fire hitting shots from every possible building up a 38-26 lead going into the half. However in the 2nd half the Coach Scott pulled his starters early not wanting to rub it in the face of the Aggies and the Aggies responded with a run of their own to close the gap and actually out score the Zags 40-35, however they still fell short and the Bulldogs held on for the 73-66 win. COACH SCOTT HAS INTERVIEW ON BUD,THE FAN AND WINGMAN

Today on Bud,Fan and the Wingman we get a chance to ask Coach Scott a few questions.

Bud-Coach how do you feel so far with the way your team has played?

Scott-Well Bud to be honest with you I am very happy. We are 8-2, I am not sure I could ask for much more. I mean the loss to Arizona and WSU were tough, but that is sorta to be expected. Those are 2 great teams with 2 great coaches.

The Fan-Coach 1st let me tell you not all of us want your head, but you have to remember you are walking in some huge shoes. How do you see the rest of the year going?

Scott-Well Fan I can tell you one thing, I sure hope I don't lose another home game. :) We have some tough road games coming up against Texas,Xaiver,Cal and Duke. If we can split those games I would be very happy. We also still have a tough game against Syracuse at home before starting conference play so that will be huge too. With 3 wins plus a win over Boise State we should be able to get ourselves back into the Top 25.

Wingman-Coach you landed a stud for next year in Myers and it looks like you could be adding 1 more big time player. How does the roster look to you in terms of who is maybe going to be starting? Have you considered moving Daye back to SF at all, Niang seems to be having staying in games.

Scott-Well Wing, For me personally I like to give my Seniors the starting role if they earn it. Gray was close to getting it this year as a JR so right now I envision him taking over at SG next year with Myers coming off the bench and then taking over as a SO. Personally I love Daye at the PF spot , He is so quick people just can't keep up with him. and his ability to take them outside has opened up lanes for Niang and Erwin and allowed Sacre to really step up his game. I am disappointed with Niang when it comes to fouling, but alot of those calls are just bad calls from the refs.

Bud-Well Coach we are out of time but thanks for stopping by, we would love to have you on again soon.

Scott-Well Bud I think I could work that out. We have 4 days off after Duke before we start conference play, so maybe I can come on and give you guys a non-conference wrap up.

Bud/Fan/Wing-Sounds good Coach see ya then.

In the 1st half this showed as Xavier built up a 48-38 lead. However in the 2nd half the Zags would come alive behind the play of Freshman sensation S. Niang and the 7'5 W. Foster.
Foster had all 13 of his pts in the 2nd half and Niang scored 14 of his 20 pts on 3/4 3pt shooting to help the Zags outscored Xaiver 56-32 in the 2nd half to help them to a 94-80 victory.

BREAKING NEWS

So here is the deal. I am done with my season. I really want to start my next one, but with my work schedule, needing to spend time with my wife and now with my Sats normally being filled with modified softball games, I have pretty much no time to post anymore. I hope to keep things going but its starting to become to much. So with all that said I am going to give everyone a recap of what happened, and try and start year 4 but just know that it will probably be limited to a few games a week and not as much detail info as before.

RECAP OF YEAR 3
So after finishing the non-conference schedule at 12-4, Coach Scott and the Zags dominated West Coast play. Going 14-0 in conference play finishing the season ranked #5 in the Media Poll and #10 in the Coaches Poll. We finished with the #2 RPI in the nation. This amazing season earned the Bulldogs the #2 seed in the West Regional with a 1st round matchup with Texas A&M-CC. After a 113-73 blowout in the 1st round, the Bulldogs played #7 Depaul. Depaul knew coming into the game their only chance for a win was to slow down the high scoring Bulldogs. Gonzaga led the nation in scoring at 90.1 PPG. The Blue Demons almost pulled it off holding the Zags to 76 points, but the Bulldogs also can play pretty good defense when needed and held on to a 76-74 win. In the sweet 16 the Zags matched up against the #6 Clemson Tigers who had just upset #3 Wisconsin. However the Zags offense was again to much for the Tigers as they hit triple digits 100-82. Earning Coach Scott and the Bulldogs a coveted Elite 8 showing with their east coast rival the #1 Duke Blue Devils. Duke had cruised through the tourney so far with a 26 pt win over Arizona State, a 17 pt win over LaSalle and a 33 pt win over #4 NC State. However this game would not be so easy.

RECAP OF ELITE 8 MATCHUP WITH DUKE

The Bulldogs would fall behind early in the rematch as both teams shot the ball well, but Duke's balanced team play was almost to much for the Zags to handle. Down 43-48 going into the locker room, Coach Scott reminded his players exactly who they were and why they were the best in scoring all season long. Playing without Jr Center R. Sacre the Bulldogs used a 9 man rotation and offense strategy was who is open shoots the ball. Jr. S. Gray led the charge hitting 3/5 3pt shots and Sr 7'5 W. Foster dominated in the paint scoring 14 second half pts leading the Bulldogs back down 97-95 with only 15 seconds left in the game, Coach Scott called his final timeout. "Well guys we have a choice we can go for the tie and hope to pull it out in OT or we can go for the win. With 3 players win foul trouble with 4 fouls each including Foster, the team voiced their opinion. Erwin-"I say lets get it done now Coach". Daye-"I say lets do it too Coach" Bouldin-"I think I speak for the 3seniors here Coach and we want a National Title more then anyone, and for us I think our best chance is win it now." Coach Scott-"Alright then here is what we are going to do....."

Niang inbounds to Erwin, he dribbles to the center of the court and makes his move, first the ball goes inside to Foster who turns and looks for A. Daye but instead fires across court to Fr. S. Niang. Niang squares and shoots, the ball is up and the ball is in. Gonzaga wins. Gonzaga wins... Final Score 98-97

After the game we talked to Coach Scott.

Reporter-Coach was the play set up for Daye or was Niang suppose to be the guy?

Scott-Niang was our guy. Even though he is a Freshman it was either going to be him or Gray. Niang on the season has been our best 3pt shooter at 46% with Gray at 41%. I knew Coach K would have Gray doulbed up with him having had the hot hand in the 2nd half, I left in in Niang hands to get it done.

Reporter-Well its looks like it worked. Now lets just hope you saved some of those heroics for #3 Indiana.

FINAL 4
A interesting Final 4. Not a single #1 seed made it. Illinois was upset in the 2nd round of the Midwest by Baylor and Charlotte upset #1 Tennessee in the South also in round 2. #1 Arizona had made it to the Elite 8 along with Duke but fell to #3 Indiana 85-80.

Here is the Final 4 pairings.
#2 Flordia vs #5 Louisville
#2 Gonzaga vs #3 Indiana.

Once again the Zags fell behind in the 1st quarter but once again they showed the word quit was not in their vocab. With Jr Center. R. Sacre back from injury, Coach Scott changed up his play and used a solid post game to come back and pull out the 84-79 win and a spot in the National Title game.

Florida won easily over Louisville 96-75 to earn the other spot.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

This game was a pretty big let down. After having to do so much to get here I had hoped for a better game. However this game was over by half time. The Gators couldn't buy a shot and fell behind 47-26. Played Bouldin,Foster, and Gurgainious pretty much the entire 2nd half giving the seniors once last glory day. Final Score 78-69

Thanks. I was pretty pumped. This was the quickest I have won a NC. At Boise I didn't get won until year 5 and at Texas Southern it was year 6. So this was pretty sweet. I really like my incoming class for next year too. I am not really a big fan of Bouldin, so I was not sad to see him leave and Guirganious and Foster were just role players so my starting 5 next year is going to be pretty sweet.

RECRUITING RECAP.

Top 5
#1-Cal
#2 Arizona
#3-Providence
#4-UNC
#5-UCLA

Gonzaga finished #18.
Early season signing

6'6 Mason Myers 5* #13 overall/#4 SG from Toronto CN
Overall-82

Coach Scott take:
Mason-doesn't really shoot the ball well, but is a A- defender. He sorta reminds me of what departing senior L. Guiraganious brought to the table. Diasappointed with his C- Potential.

Off season signings.
6'5 Bradley Myles-4* #27 overall.#9 SG from Radondo Beach CA
Overall-76

Coach Scott take:
Myles is the type of SG I took for. He is in the same mold of current Zags S. Gray. This kid can flat out shoot the rock. 84 close, 75 mid, 86 3pt. Look for him to possibly redshirt and then come in and start at SG after Gray graduates, or he might come of the bench as our scoring machine backing up Gray and Niang. Love his A- Potential.

6'9 Alex Mallory-3* #242 overall/#17 C from Seattle WA
Overall-74

Coach Scott-
Mallory will redshirt his 1st year and be a potential replacement for Sacre next year unless a different bigman is recruited.

Well that is Gonzaga basketball for you. Coach Few never backed down from a challenge and Coach Scott has kept that same willingness to go anywhere.

The thing I like about Gonzaga is their location and rivalary with Washigton and Washington State. With Few being in Arizona that now gives me 3 Pac-10 teams to play every year. I like playing Idaho and E. Washington due to location.

My biggest hope right now is that Duke can somehow go undefeated and make it to #1 so that way when I beat them I will have beat the #1 rated team.

Yes and no. Right now that list is pretty short. Washington State and Arizona State are the only 2 I really want to coach at. I might consider UNLV and maybe a Big East team only because I have never coached in the Big East. I also wouldn't mind going back to Texas maybe Texas Tech or TCU.

I did UNC with Coach Dezaron for a short time. I thought that would be my dream job but I really wasn't feeling it. Not really any East Coast teams that really jump out at me being how I am a West Coat guy. However as far as Big East goes. I wouldn't mind something like Marquette or Seton Hall. A team that really has my interest would be Oklahoma State. I have always liked them all the way back to my days of playing College Hoops on my Super NES.

If I could pick the best thing though that would be stay at Gonzaga until Washington State opens up.

Thanks. I do like my roster alot. I am thinking repeat. The biggest concern for me is I have 6 scholarships to hand out with Daye,Gray,Erwin,Sacre all leaving plus 2 open from last year. My hopes are to feel at least 4 of them and save 2 for next season when I will only have 2. I like to try and keep my team as balanced as possible and being now I only keep 10 active and redshirt the rest its not to bad. I finally have the 3pt shooters I need to make my offense flow, now I just need to recruit a bigman to have a post presence once Sacre leaves. Hopefully Mallory can be that guy but I would love to find a 6'10 or taller Center in this years class.

I wish I had another good 3 point shooter besides Wallace, who's a senior. That's all I pretty much shoot with him that's why he avg. about 16 PPG. He is actually really good, the problem I have is that I have Daye and Gray who I love to shoot with, so Niang doesn't get as many points as he could. He has a 2nd round projection right now, so I am hoping he doesn't leave and comes back, because next seasn with Daye and Gray gone I wouldn't feel as bad if I avg 20+ points with him and hopefully get him 1st round status. Then again I really like Myles and Myers too so who knows. That has always been one of my problems I play team ball to much. Guess that is why I will never have a Olu King type player.

GONZAGA KICKS OFF SEASON WITH HUGE WIN OVER E. WASHINGTON EAGLES.

The Stadium was packed as all the locals turned out to see if the Eagles could take down the mighty Bulldogs of Gonzaga. Both teams play a very fast uptempo offensive style and it showed in the 1st half as the idea of defensive was left in the locker room. S. Gray was unstoppable from beyond the arc hitting 4/4 3pt and A. Daye scored 12 pts in the paint leading the Zags to a 74-52 1st half score. Many fans left the game thinking it was over after looking at the scoreboard.

Those staying for the 2nd half who loved to see high scoring were not disappointed as both teams continued to shoot well from the floor. Coach Scott pulled most of his starters 4 mins into the half and allowed his bench to get some valueable playing time. The player take most of this playing time was backup PG L.L. Appleby who scored 14 pts and handed out 12 assist in the 2nd half alone. He finished the night with 18 pts and 15 assist. In a normal night this would be Player of the Game type #'s but tonight that honor went to S. Gray who finished with 28 pts on 7/9 3pt shooting. Final Score 129-99

GONZAGA
Daye-23 pts 6 rebs 2/4 3pt
Sacre-17 pts 5 rebs
Erwin-11 pts 7 asst.
Niang-6 pts early foul troulbe and a huge lead, allowed Coach Scott to see what Myers and Myles had to offer.

EWU
Cooley-30 pts 13 rebs(6'11 JR PF)
Longans-13 pts 6 reb(6'11 FR C)
Watson-12 pts 4 reb(7'2 JR C)
Bethel-13 pts 12 asst 4 steals(6'4 JR PG)

Coach Scott take on the game-
The Eagles have great talent, going 3 big they are going to be a force in the Big Sky this season. I fully expect them to make a run at going to the NCAA's.

BULLDOG VICTORIOUS IN LOCAL DOG FIGHT AGAINST A HUSKY

Once again the Zags showed why they led the nation in scoring last season and why they will probably do the same again this season hitting 8/11 3's in the 1st half the Bulldogs entered the locker room up 47-45. In the 2nd half the shots continued to fall but not in nearly the same hight rate, but good enough as the Zags finished 14/33 3pt and 21/27 from the line to hold onto a 103-95 victory

GONZAGA
Gray-13 pts 3/6 3pt
Daye-23 pts 5 reb 3/8 3pt
Sacre-13 pts 5rebs
Appleby-12 pts 9 asst 3/6 3pt
Myers-18 pts 7 reb 4/4 3pt

WASHINGTON
Mathew-Bryan Amaning-25 pts 6 reb
Ngarndi-18pts 5 asst 3/7 3pt

Coach Scott take on the game.-Always nice to pull out a win at home and a win against in-state rivals like Washington. Hopefully this will help local kids see that even though the Pac-10 might be the better conference, we are the better team and can beat anyone-anywhere.

NEXT UP THE (2-0) ZAGS TRAVEL TO TUSCON TO TAKE ON COACH FEW AND THE ARIZONA WILDCATS.

WILDCATS HOLD ZAGS TO UNDER 100 BUT RESULTS ARE STILL THE SAME. ZAGS WIN AGAINST FORMER COACH.

This was a huge win for the Zags and Coach Scott. After leading the game at the half last year he allowed Coach Few to and the Wildcats to come back in the 2nd and win it. Well tonight R. Sacre was determined to show Coach Few his mistakes for not giving him as much PT as he wanted his 1st 2yrs on campus. Sacre led the Zags with 23 pts and 6 rebounds winning POY honors. Final Score 98-94

GONZAGA
Niang-12 pts 10 rebs 2 blks 2/3 3pt
Gray-18 pts 5/11 3pt
Appleby-15 pts 6 asst 2/4 3pt

ARIZONA
Ward-19 pts 6 rebs 0/3 3pt
Simmons-12 pts 6 asst
Horne-12 pts 11 reb

Coach Scott take on the game-This was really a big win for us tonight. I really wanted this for Sacre,Erwin,Daye, and Gray. To be able to go out and win against your former coach is always a good feeling. I know they all had a good talk with him after the game reminding him who won the Title last year also. :)

COACH SCOTT AND THE ZAGS EARN THE SWEEP OF THE STATE WITH WIN OVER THE COUGARS.

Another huge victory for Coach Scott. Having lost to the Cougs at home last year this was sweet revenge. Leading 58-56 at the half both coaches knew it was going to be a shootout in the end. The Zags finished the night 13/24 3pt and the Cougs finished 11/22. Those 2 extra made 3's would be the difference as the Zags hold onto a 96-89 win.

RECRUITING UPDATE

Going into the season the Coach Scott and the Zags had 6 scholarships to hand out. Going into the season they focused on trying to land 2 big time PG, a SF,PF and 2 C.
Leading the way at SF was the #1 player in the nation 6'6 Taron Pena from Huntington Beach CA. The Zags are currently 98% and #1 on his list but Coach Few and Arizona are right on their butts.

At PG the Zags have targetted 2 5* AA.
6'0 A. Crites #4/#2 the Mr. BB from OR. The Zags are again currently 95% and #1 but instate Oregon like Arizona on with Pena are right behind.

6'2 J. Riddle #10/#5 from Bakersfield CA is the other. Again the Zags are leading the way but only at 88%. Looks like this one is going to come down to offseason recruiting.

At Power Forward the Zags have targetted a 4* and a 3*

6'7 D. Watson-4* #75/#5 from San Antonio Texas.
Currently has the Zags #3 behind Texas A&M and Texas Tech, but neither school is offereing a scholarship. He is 72% sure he wants to be a Zag.

6'9 C. Trammell-3* #156/18 from Kennewick WA
A local kid who grew up dreaming of being a Zag. Currently 100% and has Zags #1 in his heart.

At Center Coach Scott went out of the box. Normally sticking to West Coast and Texas.(Couldn't resist the name when I saw him as a FR, plus I figured if I get him I could rub it in Cincys face :) )

7'1 Boubacar Tobias-5* AA Mr. BB from Dayton OH. #16 overall and #1 Center.
Currently the Zags are #1 having recruiting Tobias since his Freshman year but Louisville is closing the gap. Tobias is currently 89% sure he wants to be a Zag.

GONZAGA SUFFERS 1ST LOSS OF THE SEASON ON THE COURT AND SUFFERS EVEN WORSE OFF THE COURT.

Playing in NY in front of 33,000 the Zags and Orange gave the fans one to remember for the season. In the 1st half both teams shot the ball well and played 40-40 tie. In the 2nd half it looked like things were going to continue however with with 2 mins left Syracuse's Jardine took over scoring 12 of his 30 pts leading the Orange to victory and getting a little sweet revenge over the 7 point loss they suffered in the Kennel last year. Final Score 75-80

RECRUITING UPDATE
After the Zags returned home to Spokane Coach Scott was sitting in his office getting ready to make some recruiting calls when his phone rings first........
Coach Scott-Hello.

Taron Pena-Coach hey I just wanted to call and let you know this was probably the toughtest decision I have every made, but as you might have found out, Coach Few called and Arizona is offering.

Coach Scott-Well Taron, its like I have told you from the start, you need to go where your heart tells you to be, I don't want you to listen to me, Coach Few or even your family. This is your decision to make.

Pena-Well Coach I have to say my heart is telling me it likes the sunny weather that Arizona has to offer. Personally that is what it came down too. Both schools are great and offer a great basketball program, however Arizona offers me the warm weather I am use too and also is a much shorter trip for my parents to come and watch games.

Coach Scott- :( Well I wish you the best of luck Taron, but know this, next season when the Wildcats come to play on the Kennel floor, don't expect me to take it easy on you.

Only a few mins later the phone rings again.
Coach Scott-Hello

Bobacour Tobia-Coach its Tobias. Hey just wanted to give you some heads up. My mom and I talked about it and we feel its best to let you know I am going to stay closer to home and sign with Louisville.

Coach Scott-Well I can't say I am surprised. I knew since the day we met when your were a freshman that you were going to be amazing, so I knew I would have some tough competition, and I also know you need to do whats best for you and your mom.

Tobias-Well Coach if it makes you feel any better, unless something happens, I only plan on staying 1 year. I really want to get my mom a nice house.

Coach Scott-Well son, since I told you from the beginning, don't rush it. I know you want to do whats best for your mom, but the money will be there. I am sure we will be in touch and you know I will always be here if you need to talk.

Tobias-Thanks Coach I won't forget. Talk to you later.

A few minutes later the phone rings once again.

Coach Scott thinking"Please let it be good"-Hello

Trammell-Coach its Tram.

Coach Scott-Tram whats going on?

Tram-Coach hope you got my XXL ready, I am ready to sign. I want to be a Zag.

Coach Scott-Wow. You don't know how happy I am to hear it. I am guess you and Tobias already talked?

Tram-Yeah I called him early. I have to say Coach I am not all sad. I know we talked and you told me I would start at PF with Tobias at Center, but I really feel I can be the bigman you need.

Coach Scott- Well I hope so, beacuse it doesn't look like we are going add another bigman. So do me a favor and start bullking up :)

Tram-Will do Coach. See you soon.

Coach Scott" Well 1 out of 3 isn't to bad I guess...

Only a few mins later the phone rings again.

Coach Scott-Hello

Crites-Coach its Crites, I just wanted to say I am really glad I got to know you and I had Oregon not offered, I woudl be coming to Spokane, but as you know growing up in Salem I have been a Ducks fan my entire life, and even though Coach Kent might not be here my entire 4 yrs, I need to do this. No hard feelings right?

Coach Scott-No hard feelings.

Later in his office, Coach Scott thinking to himself"Well 1 out of 4 and no word from Riddle or Watson. Guess if I miss out on them that makes me 1 out of 6. With a average like that the only job I will be able to get is playing 1st base for the Mariners."

A entire day goes by come Sunday Coach Scott gets the phone call he had been waiting for.

Riddle-Coach hey its Rids, just wanted to let you know I heard that Crites,Pena and Tobias turned you down, so I am not looking to make your week any worse so I am going to wait until the end of the season to make my announcement, UCLA is interested but they don't know if they are going to have a scholarship yet.

Coach Scott-No problem, I know its been a tough choice, Like I told everyone else just listen to your heart and know that everything I told you is true. From day 1 you will be given a chance to challenge Appleby for the starter job and once you sign I promise I won't go after another PG in your class, however until you do sign I am going to have to atleast make some visits and have a backup plan.

Riddles-No problem Coach I wouldn't expect anything else.

As soon as the phone was set down, and rang again.

Coach Scott-Hello

Watson-Hey Coach. Its Watson. Just wanted to let you know its either you or the Aggies. Like Crites growing up in San Antonio, playing for the Aggies has always been my dream but my now its like I have a rip right down the middle and the other half wants me in Spokane playing for you.

Scott-Well I am a big believer in listening to you heart, so I really believe you should listen to the half that says Gonzaga :)

Watson-Will do. Well I am still looking forward to my visit next week, I have seen the Kennel several times in TV but I am ready to see a game live.

Coach Scott-Well we are looking fowrad to having you. I just wish it was a little better opponent. Idaho is having a tough time this year.

Watson-No problem Coach just remember, if I sign with the Zags, I need you to do your best and schedule some games in Texas for my parents.

Scott-No problem like I told you when I was at Texas State I made alot of connections and already have a deal worked out with Coach Barnes to play the Longhorns next year.

Watson-Cool deal coach. Well see you Friday night.

Scott-Talk to you soon.

After the call... Scott-"Well that at least sounds promising. 1/4 with 2 more maybes, and 3 offers still to hand out. Guess things could be worse.

GONZAGA STAYS PERECT AT HOME.

Neither of these were much of a game. Starting to see I need to either only shedule top teams or change my sliders against teams like this.

Game 1
Gonzaga vs (5-2) Oregon State.

Their record was decieving. This Beavers struggled to find anyone who could contain. A. Daye as Austin went off for 34 pts and 6 rebounds hitting 2/4 from beyond the arc and 8/10 from the line. Final Score 99-57

Game 2
Gonzaga vs (3-3) Idaho

With Watson looking on, the Zags dominated early going up 50-33 in the 1st half, with most of the starters on the bench sharing memories and getting to know Watson, the bench went on to keep things going out scoring the Vandals 34-33 in the 2nd. Final Score 84-63

Next up the Zags travel South to take on 2 WAC opponents. Boise State and San Jose State.

Games are played hope to get them posted tomorrow if I get some time after playing broom hockey with my kids.

Wow I am gone for 2 days and nobody has anything to say about my Zags. Guess my readers have become bored, or maybe its because Cincy is back and everyyone loves him :) Or maybe its because Chris Paul and Jordi have pretty Pictures. Okay well now I am starting to sound like Chestnutz and think nobdody loves me.

ZAGS AND MUSKETEERS BATTLE INTO O.T.

It was a sold out show, with only a few standing room only spots left in the Cintas Center as Coach Scott got ready to take on Coach Ryan and his mighty Musketeers.

The Musketeers jumped out early as Erwin and Appleby combined for 0-6 3pt shooting the Zags fell behind 42-47 going into the locker room. In the 2nd half the Zags turned to S. Gray who hit back to back 3's and M. Myers who hit 2 out of 3 to help the Zags take the lead. Both teams would trade baskets until there was less then a minute to play. The Musketeers built a 4 pt lead with 40 seconds left but the Gray hit another big 3. Leading by 1 the Coach Ryan instructed his players to try and run as much time of the clock as possible. However Coach Scott had other plans. After back to back intentional fouls they sent the Sr Dante Jackson to the line. 3/5 on the night Jackson missed his 1st shot giving the Zags hope. After hitting the 2nd their was now 24 seconds left on the clock. The Zags advance the ball to half court and call the timeout. Okay guys down by 2. What do you want to do. A. Daye " I say stick to our play, we are on the road the crowd is crazy lets win this thing now. Coach Scott"Okay the ball goes to Gray. He has been our hot shooter all night, no reason to switch now. "

Daye inbounds to Erwin who sets it up. OVer to Niang, Niang down to Sacre, Sacre across to Gray in the corner, the shot is up. and hits the front of the rim, but falls short. However A. Daye is there for the put back as time expires. This game is going O.T. baby...

Coach Ryan looked to his deep bench to find some extra energy in the OT period as the Zags were struggling trying to field a team. With Sacre and Rowell already out of the game because of fouls and,Gray,Daye,Niang all playing with 4. The Zags looked to C. Taft to man the middle. Taft would come up big scoring 6 of his 8 pts in the overtime period but it wouldn't be enough as the Zags failed to land another shot. Losing 89-93 in the end.

ZAGS REBOUND FROM LOSS WITH HUGE WIN OVER #1 DUKE

Looking to redeem themselves from last seasons loss and from their loss on Monday to the Musketeers, The Zags looked to come out on fire. However Coach K had the Blue Devils in a tight 3-2 zone taking away any chance for Gray or anyone for the matter to get hot beyond the arc. Coach Scott decided to employ the same defensive strategy as both teams traded baskets in the paint, going into the locker room tied 41-41.

The 2nd half was almost a mirror image as both teams continued to shut down the perimeter instead having to find other ways to score. With only a minute left to play the Zags behind a big 3 from Gray and a quick 2 inside from Daye built a 6 point lead. Duke was forced to foul the rest of the way out and the the Zags held on to a 89-88 win.

This game was all about offense and who had more of it. Many basketball purists would call it the sloppiest game of defense they ever witnessed. Gonzaga had 6 out of 10 players finish with 4 fouls an Pepperdine lost 2 playes to foul outs and 2 others finished with 4 each. Both teams combined for 109 Free throws. Yeah not really. Last season I rolled the WCC. This year with how well most of the teams did in non-conference play I thought they would do better, but so far no luck. Daye is just to quick for most teams 4's and my team is so loaded with guys that can hit the 3 you can't leave anyone open. I am actually already looking forward to next year when I won't have Daye,Gray,Erwin, and Sacre because I think it will be more of a challenge. I would move on, but honestly I don't think any of the schools I am interested in will open up. This is my 5th legacy and I havn't seen them yet and some of those I was into year 12-15.

GONZAGA LOSES 1ST WCC GAME OF THE YEAR

In Game 1 the Zags took on the Lions of LMU. LMU was 0-4 in conference play coming into the game but Coach Scott new better to overlook them but the team didn't seem to feel threatened. Leading 54-44 at the half. Coach Scott continued to tell the team if they let up the Lions had the talent to come back and comeback they tried, however in the end the Lions couldn't find a answer for the post play of A. Daye 29 pts and R. Sacre 23 pts. So S. Niang also added a double double with 11 pts and 10 rebs. Final Score 98-92.

In Game 2. The Zags shot well in the 1st half hitting 5/12 3pt and took a 1pt lead into the half 35-34. However in the 2nd half they fell apart hitting only 2/10 well the Broncos connected on 6/10 for a total of 11/20 to pull of the upset 75-80

The loss drops the Zags to #11 in the Media Poll and #9 in the Coaches. They are still considered the best Mid-Major in the country.

Semi Finals I played St. Marys and lost setting up a St. Marys vs Pepperdine for the Finals. I was pulling for St. Marys so that we could get 3 teams in the Dance from the WCC but Pepperdine pulled it off winning by a couple of baskets. Pepperdine actually ends up getting a #3 seed in the Midwest.

Even with my 4th loss, I still finished the year ranked #5 in the Media and #12 in the Coaches Poll. I also had the #2 best RPI behind Duke. I was also the best team coming out of the West, so I still got the #1 seed in the West in the NCAA. Duke was the #1 in the East,Florida in the South and Syracuse in the Midwest. Alabama ranked #4 in the media poll had to settle for the #2 seed in the South.

I rolled through the 1st round and 2nd round. Got a sweet sixteen matchup with Coach Few and Arizona. Won by 8 pts. Played UCLA in the Eilite 8 won by 4. Had a rematch with Duke in the Final 4 and won by 10. Played #3 Louisville in the Championship and won by 6 for my 2nd straight National Title. Finished the year 34-6. Not to bad for a tiny program out of Spokane WA.

Recruiting Recaps to follow.

RECRUITING RECAP.

Going into the year Coach Scott had 4 scholarships to offer.

Only 1 player signed early
Clifton Trammell a 6'9 3* PF ranked #156/#18 out of Kennewick WA.
Only C- Potential he isn't to bad. Rated 75 overall with 89 close,69 mid, and 67 3pt he has the potential to turn into a slower A. Daye.

Now met the rest of the 2010 Gonzaga Bulldog Recruits.

Johnnie Riddle is a 6'2 5* AA PG from Bakersfiled CA. He was the prize recruit this year for Coach Scott. Ranked #10 overall and #5 at his postion.
Ratings Overal-81
Close-85
Med-78
3pt-79
Def-93
Stl-93
Spd-93
Pot-C

Dokun Watson is a 6'9 4* PF from San Antonio TX. Rated 75 overall He was the #75 overall and #5 PF in the class Doesn't really have any outstanding #. Should be a solid player all around.

Scottie Bro is a 6'4 4* SG our of San Jose CA. Rated 76 overall. He was the #26 best player in the class and the #5 SG.
Doesn't have the shooting # I was hoping for Close-83, Mid-75, 3pt-74. Is very quick though with 90 speed. Might convert him into a backup PG for Riddle once Appleby is gone.

Coach Scott also added a Walkon that made the Roster.

Russ Gregory is a 6'10 2* PF out of Cincinnati OH. He is rated 64 overall and was the #552 overall and #100 PF. Has decent close-82 and standing dunk is a 72. He will redshirt in year 1 and hopefully continue making the team as a bigman backup that won't cost us a scholarship.

Yeah. I am actually looking forward to the short bench. Over the course of my seasons I generally never have a big time scorer. Normally I will have 3 guys avg around 15 and 1 or 2 guys around 10. I am hoping with this lineup that I can get Niang avg over 20 a game and it will also allow Myers to play almost starter type mins as the 6th man playing at SG and SF. It will actually be more of a 8 man rotation because Taft isn't really that good, but he is serviceable if fould problems arise. I have played a few games and so far I really like Trammell and Mallory in the post. I can't stand Riddle shot, so I am going to have to edit that, but other then that I love the new guys.

I don't know about that. JJ is catching up quick and with the way he is playing it won't be long before he adds another at Oregon State.

Yeah I started out at Texas State. Won 22 games including my conference tourney and lost in the 1st round got 5 attribute points. In year 2 I won 25 games including my conference tourney and lost in the 1st round but again gained 5 attribute points. I was offered UTEP and was 2nd on the list at SMU. I actually wanted to stay in Texas because I love recruiting there and I was 2nd choice by Gonzaga. However I noticed that the coach UTEP had 2nd was Gonzaga 1st choice. So I declined UTEP they hired the other guy and Gonzaga offered. I won the National Title my 1st year at Gonzaga and then again in my 2nd year. 1st time ever winning back to back titles at the same school. I live in Spokane so Gonzaga was a no brainer pick for me. I loved playing with A. Daye and S. Gray, plus I grew up in Boise and that is were my current small foward Niang is from. He was a 5* AA that Coach Few had recruited before taking the Arizona job. Right now I have a very select few teams I would leave Gonzaga for. Washington State is my #1 choice but Bennett has a pretty high job security rating and he is young so he won't retire anytime soon. My only hope is that he will leave and take another job, but I have never seen it happen. Arizona State is #2 but Sendek is also young and coming off a 23 win season with high security. Looks best option is to wait for Krueger at UNLV which is my 3rd choice. He is the oldest and would retire the soonest. They won 27 games last year and are currently 13-0 in my 4th year, so he has them playing some great ball.

Coming into the year the Bulldogs had 4 scholarships to offer. Coach Scott main goal was to land 2 big bodys to replace Taft and add depth, a PG to backup Riddle next season and a shooter to take Niang SF spot in 2 years.

6'11 Emerson Fisher was a 4* recruit and Mr. BB from Gresham Oregon. The Zags beat out both Oregon and Oregon State in order to bring him across the state line. Rated #40 overall and #1 Center. Look for Fisher to challenge Mallory and Trammel for instant P.T.

Coach Scott was very disappointed that he wasn't able to pull down a verbal from Alan Murray. Murray is currently at 96% and has the Zags #1 however Oregon is right on the heals and closing fast. Yeah there are a few. I am sure there are even more out there I forgot to mention. Like Skar was at Rutgers but I havn't seen him for almost a month and WSU_Zags was at Air Force but he has been gone even longer.

Okay so I promise I will have updates soon. Maybe later tonight if not definetly on Friday, but its been 5 days and there has been no feedback, so I am wondering do i still have followers or have you become bored with Coach Scott. All feedback is very appreciated.

I am still following! :)

Sorry to those following. I didn't post my games because I ended up winning a 3rd title and my team has become boring for me. I was just going to leave, but the only job opening was S. Carolina and Syracuse and no mid majors I wanted.

So instead I have decided to follow Cincys lead and start a open legacy with Boise State and the return of Coach Dezaron in name only. I also am excited about the idea of adding some pics to bring me up to par with some of those other out there. Please come and check it out.
