Ok, scratch that Arkansas thread. Pish posh, thank you deuce for suggesting this team, hopefully it'll be a good couple seasons! Gonna make this season preview short and sweet cause I wanna get right to the games.
------------------------------------------------------------
California Golden Bears
07/08 Season Preview
(Note: Changed the schedule a bunch)
Non-Conference Schedule
#3 Memphis
Cornell
San Diego St.
@ Nevada
#7 Wisconsin
@ Kansas St.
UC Davis
Princeton
LSU (Christmas Day)
Long Beach St. (Golden Bear Classic, includes ND State and Bucknell as well)
Looks to be a challenging schedule, with a couple in-state games, as well as opening up against one of the top teams in the nation, Memphis, also playing Wisconsin and at Kansas St.
Starters
PG So Jerome Randle, 5'9''
75 ovr, 77 3pt, 92 spd, B potential
Very small but quick as hell. Can hit down the open three, and drive the lane to hand it off to the big boys.
SG So Patrick Christopher, 6'5''
75 ovr, 73 3pt, 85 dunk
Good shooter, decent defender, good role player.
SF Sr Eric "Verne" Vierneisel, 6'7''
67 ovr, 75 3pt
Not very athletic, but a good shooter.
PF So Ryan Anderson, 6'10''
82 ovr, 84 3pt, 96 DREB
Preaseason 2nd team All-Pac 10 choice, a very good shooter who can do it all, and will dominate with his size on smaller forwards. Excellent rebounder.
C Sr DeVon Hardin, 6'11''
78 ovr, 90 LOWD, 92 DREB, 88 dunkstanding
Premiere defender down low, uses his size to push players around. Needs to develop an offensive game to truly be dominant.
Others
PF So Jamal Boykin, 6'7''
70 ovr
C So Jordan Wilkes, 7'
65 ovr
Although not very talented, will be used ahead of others because of his size.
SF Fr Omondi Amoke, 6'7''
66 ovr, 70 3pt, 92 dunk
Athletic wingman who is very versatile.
PG So Nikola Knezevic, 6'2''
66 ovr
Analysis: Outside of Randle at point, this team has loads of size, which will be needed in the Pac-10. Although predicted to finish 8th in the conference, this team has some great sophmore talent, and their defense will be able to do a lot. Ryan Anderson will have to do very well in order for the Bears to compete in the conference.
The '97 Pac-10 coach of the year, Ben Braun, will be returning for his 11th season with the Bears. This year, he wants to push the tempo and play very tight defense, throwing in a 1-2-1-1 press.

Very nice.
I know that Blue and I will be following for sure :)
I am starting my last legacy for the year also. But unlike you I really like the closed legacy and will be turning Texas State into the premier basketball program in the state of Texas.

Good luck with that. First game should be up within the hour. I have to say, I love playing with this team, even though Memphis is amazing. When Anderson gets on, he's nearly impossible to stop. And only a sophmore!

Go to features - 2kShare
Pick any roster you want. The best ones are the ones that are OScomplete v# whatever, just download it, save it, then go back to the main screen and load the rosters, then save them as a regular roster file.

Ok well, decided to test out some new sliders. I used JustinDaniels sliders that are available for download on 2kshare as a basis, edited some things to my liking though. Originals can be seen here if anyone wants em...

Didn't feel like playing the Cornell game, so just simmed it...
vs. 2-0 Cornell Big Red
11/19/07
WIN, 72-67. Very close game as it turns out. Lead 39-37 at halftime, pull it out in second half barely.
Anderson gets POTG, 21 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 0/4 from three though. Randle has 14 points, 4 assists, and 3/3 from downtown. Hardin finishes with 12 and 6 boards with 4 blocks. For Cornell, SG Gore and SF Wittman both finish with 13. Louis Dale has 5 points and 5 assists.
Next for 2-0 Cal is (2-2) San Diego State. They're 79 ovr (compared to our 81). Play a fast tempo game, like to drive, so we'll probably go with a 2-3 for most of the game, like what we did for Memphis. They have a 3/4 press after every basket, and play very tight. Best player is SF Lorenzo Wade (81), all 5 starters are juniors. Two big men are both 75 ovr.

Have you tried using those sliders on MOP, without comparing them # for # they look pretty close to the sliders I hav been using. I don't think I have CPU offensive awarness quite that high but everything else is close.
chestnutz6
March 22nd, 2008, 08:30 PM
Quick update deuce, after a couple minutes of playing the SDSU game, I realized AA is waaaay too easy. I was simply dominating and had like 4 CPU turnovers in the first 2 minutes. Kept the sliders and changed it to MOP, and it was ridiculous. It was just their offense, they ran backdoor cuts and made amazing passes that somehow got through my defenders and made amazing lay ups and dunks. So I downed the offensive awareness, like yours, and found it much better.
Game is playing great now, very realistic.

Recruit Signing Period
As the signing period starts, Cal lost a recruit, but got one commitment. WIth only 2 schollies to give this year, they're focusing on a center and a SF, with the departure of DeVon Hardin next year. With that said, the 4* center they were going for signed with Massachusetts.
4* SF Dustin Medina
6'6'', Thousand Oaks CA, #68 ovr, #18 SF
B+ shooting
B- skills
B+ defense
A- athleticism
B rebounding
B+ intelligence
A- potential
B size
Cal has been targetting the #9 overall #2 PG, Ronald Garner, but it looks like they won't get him, as they're 4th on his list behind UCLA, USU, and Nevada.
The Bears are now faced with a tough decision for their final scholarship. They can go with another SF, #96, #33 pos Ken Hargett, a 4* with B potential and B+ shot (in fact, he's nearly identical to Garner). Or they can try and pick up a big man. They've shown interest in 3* PF, #50 pos Desmon Galbreath, who is only 6'8'' but has B+ rebounding (not a good shooter), and in 4* C J.J. Terry, who is also only 6'8'', but is the #1 center in this year's class. He has A rebounding, but has Cal 6th on his list.

Wow you really killed Wisconsin. If you can shut down Beasly I think it will be an easy win, but you have to shut down a BIG threat.
Who is better at Defense Hardin or Anderson?
Who has a better advatage against Beasly?
chestnutz6
March 23rd, 2008, 10:57 AM
blue - Not too much longer than it would for a regular write up. I'd say it takes me about 45 minutes to play the game, 5-10 writing the recap, then another 5 to do all the other stuff (scoreboard, key stats, etc.) and like 2 minutes to put the picture in.
desmin - At this point I'm not really sure who's better at defense. Anderson is a great rebounder, but Hardin is an inch taller and a bit stronger and better at blocking. What I'll most likely do is double team Beasley ANY time he gets the ball with Anderson and Hardin, and I'll force the other players to step up. Then I'll just have whoever's playing SF (Jamal Boykin to start, who is technically a PF) face guard Bill Walker.

MONDAY NEWS
The new top 25 polls have come out, and to much surprise, California is now ranked. The Bears have been chosen as the #22 team in the nation, a huge accomplishment for this young team. "I'm speechless, we've just been playing our hearts out and it's worked so far. We can't get too confident though, the Pac-10 is a very challenging conference and I expect to lose," said Coach.
Even more amazing, the Bears are #13 in the Coaches Poll.
Good news keeps coming, as with his 32 point performance against KState, Ryan Anderson is now tied with Kyle Hines of UNC-Greensboro for the nation's leading scorer, with 28.7.

I know what you're all thinking, "How is he 6-0?! How unrealistic!"
But truth is, my wins have been very close. Against Memphis, I don't konw what happened but it was a great comeback and I was lucky Anderson was doing so well. Against Nevada, I was lucky they were missing 2 of their top players. Against Wisconsin, Butch was very banged up. Against KSU, Beasley was a no-sho and Anderson again played very well.

Deuce2223
March 26th, 2008, 06:31 PM
UC Davis has some talent. Thats why I was surprised nobody ever uses them in a closed legacy. Oliver is a scoring machine. If only coach Nash hadn't died in that car crash.
I too was shocked they fired Braun. He has taken them to the tourney in 9 out of 12 years but I guess a 8th place finish in the Pac-10 with the kind of talent he had(Anderson) wasn't good enough. Its hard when you are trying to compete against USC and UCLA.
MAK314
March 26th, 2008, 07:16 PM
I like the write up thing, but I could care less about it. I judge write-ups by how well they are actually written. Even though chestnutz writes his very well anyway so it doesn't matter, putting in the stuff you want to read, and leaving out the stuff you don't care for. And he keeps them a good length.

March 26th, 2008, 07:32 PM
Haha yeah that was a compliment. I didn't say I didn't like the photshop thing. I just said that's not the reason why I read your legacy. If you wrote ****ty and had that I wouldn't read it one bit. I do like it though.

nemzep95
March 26th, 2008, 07:46 PM
You could have a small box with your career record. I plan on putting my overall record as a coach, even if I go through this career mode and start another, I'll keep adding, to see what my overall record is and stuff.

Surprised to see you lose to UC Davis of all teams! #13 in the coaches poll is pretty awesome..the coaches seem to love the power conference teams.
As far as the coaching record goes..I don't think you need to add it in your first season because whatever your team's record is your coaching record. Maybe for next season you could incorporate it, but right now it doesn't seem necessary. I think an interesting addition to that idea though would be to include the results of your last meeting against an opponent.

Quick summary of the Golden Bear Classic, just want to get to conference play...
12/28 vs. Long Beach St (3-6)
WIN 79 - 60
Tied 33 all at halftime, but we come out in second half and blow them away. Jerome Randle finished with 8 points and 8 assists, DeVon Hardin with 12 points, and Ryan Anderson with a big game with 36 points. Donovan Morris, the 49ers' best player, had 17 and 7 rebounds. We face ND State in finals, who beat Bucknell 65-48.
12/29 vs. ND State (3-6)
WIN 65-46
Up 32-25 at half. Anderson again explodes in second half for POTG with 29 points and career high 17 rebounds. Dude is unstoppable. Patrick Christopher contributed with 6 points and 8 boards, Jerome Randle had 6 points and 7 assists, and Devon Hardin had 10 points and 7 boards with 2 blocks. PG Woodside had 13 to lead ND State.

Player Stats
So PF Ryan Anderson (82): 28.2 PPG (1st USA), 8.0 RPG (4th Pac10), 3.1 SPG (2nd USA), 24.3 MPG, 22/44 3pt (50%), 48/59 FT (81%)
Anderson has dominated arguably more than any other player this season so far. He's scored at least 20 in every game, which gives him a near 2 point lead over Kyle Hines for #1 PPG. He's also starting to become more of an all around player, getting rebounds and is 2nd in the nation in steals.
Sr C DeVon Hardin (79): 9.5 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 1.7 BPG, 22.5 MPG
Hardin is a defensive stalwart, but his offense still hasn't improved to his potential. He is a beast on the boards, and his experience has helped carry this team to a 10-1 record.
So PG Jerome Randle (75): 9.4 PPG, 5.5 APG, 2.0 SPG, 22.2 MPG, 8/22 3pt (36%)
Although he's only 5'9'', the young quickster out of Illinois has scored some very key buckets for the team, and is fantastic at taking care of the ball, with only 2.1 TOPG.
So SG Patrick Christopher (75): 7.5 PPG, 1.8 SPG, 23.5 MPG, 7/28 3pt (25%)
Although inconsistent from downtown, he is able to hit the big shot for Cal so far. He is a very good defender who is always in the right place at the right time.
So PF Jamal Boykin (70): 5.5 PPG, 2.5 RPG, 16.4 MPG
He took over Eric Vierneisel's starting spot at SF after the first game, and hasn't lost it yet. He can hit a wide open three, but is mainly a good role player. He may end up losing his starting spot to Jordan Wilkes.
Sr SF Eric Vierneisel (67): 5.0 PPG, 1.8 RPG, 14.6 MPG
One of the better shooters on the team, he is an experienced guard/forward with the fundamentals that coaches love.
So PG Nikola Knezevic (66): 2.4 PPG, 1.1 APG, 6.8 MPG
Good backup point guard that has some size (6'2'') and can distribute well.
So C Jordan Wilkes (65): 1.8 PPG, 1.3 RPG, 4.5 MPG
He hasn't played much, but he has come on strong towards the end of the month, especially against LSU, and could see more PT.
January schedule
1/3 vs. USC (8-2)
1/5 vs. #14 UCLA (7-3)
1/10 @ #8 Oregon (11-1)
1/12 @ Oregon St. (8-3)
1/17 vs. Arizona St. (6-6)
1/19 vs. Arizona (6-5)
1/26 vs. #17 Stanford (11-1)
1/31 @ #16 Washington St. (9-3)
The Bears face a brutal schedule, going up against all .500 or better teams, and 4 ranked teams. Although they only have 3 road games, there's no doubt we'll really see how good this team is, starting with USC on Thursday.

Damn, what happened to all my readers?
Quick summary of OSU game
(12-2) #15 Cal @ (8-7) Oregon St.
Jan 12 2008
LOSS 79-81 (sim)
Cal drops it's second straight game to a last place Beaver squad, after leading 36-30 at halftime. Oregon St. fought back with center Schaftenaar leading the way with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Jerome Randle had 14 points and 8 assists, Ryan Anderson had 22 and 6 rebounds, and DeVon Hardin had 14 points and 2 blocks. Very tough loss to swallow, and the Bears might drop out of the top 25.
Next is Arizona St. on Thursday, who are 8-7. They're 2-1 in Pac 10 play, with wins over the two Oregon teams Cal lost to, and a 50-57 loss against Arizona. They've played two other currently ranked teams, losing to #17 Illionis and #18 Xavier. THey did however, beat Duke at Cameron, 85-61. Super freshman James Harden is their high scorer, with 16.9 PPG.

wow you shot 2/20 from 3pt and still shot 40%.
I have never played against a team that shoot that well from 3 and from the floor!

March 30th, 2008, 07:20 PM
yeah i know, it was just so frustrating. id contest a shot perfectly and it'd still swish through. if you've noticed as of late my FG% has gone way down since the beginning of the year, this is because ive edited the sliders a lot towards the CPU's favor and made my sliders pretty bad. i want this to be realistic as possible, and going 15-3 with cal isn't THAT realistic, although it isn't that bad.
next update will be tomorrow night, january review.

Ehhh not lol. I beat Chattanooga by hitting a 2 at the end of the game. There's a 13 rating points difference. And plus, I'm 1-4 against teams with a rating of 80+.

We caught up with Coach Ben Braun for his mid-season (a little over) thoughts.
"We've had a fantastic season so far, I would've never imagined it with only 2 upperclassmen on the team. Anderson has stepped up a lot throughout the year, but I'll be honest, he's hit a bit of a speed bump as of late. I think it's partly my fault for swtiching up the lineup, and I think I'm going to go back to Randle, Christopher, Boykin/Vierneisel, Anderson, and Hardin as the starters. We've got a helluva lot of talent, and Jordan Wilkes has stepped up big time, although his stats may not reflect it. The 7' footer no doubt makes some teams shy away from the post, and with our size, I think we can continue our winning ways for the remainder of the season, but we can't get too comfortable."
So, here's my new month in review thing. You like?

Haha thanks I guess. I'm not cocky at all, always been modest haha, but thanks for the compliment. I just enjoy writing about my dynasties in all sports, makes me learn the players more and get more into it.
BTW, I really enjoy your legacy. Love the write ups and depth/realism you put into everything. Have any suggestions for my own?
