Elon Phoenix @Virginia Tech Hokies
Both teams had a slow start in this game, being tied at 5 after a few minutes of play. The Hokies just managed to explode in the first half, leaving the phoenix left dry. The hokies were 59% shooting from the field and 50% from beyond the arc and turned the ball over only twice, while the phoenix were only 36% shooting from the field and 17% from beyond the arc and turned the ball over 5 times. The phoenix were behind 38-19 at halftime.
The second half was even more dismal. The phoenix couldn't buy a single shot, while the hokies couldn't miss any shots, hitting threes, twos, and forcing turnovers. This loss will live in infamy as one of the most embarassing losses of the season, or at least until they play Virginia. The final score was 83-34.
Afterwards we talked to Coach Stanley about the game.
Reporter: "Coach, what did you think of the performance of your teams first game?"
Coach Stanley: "Crap. That's really all that could come close to describing it. My players missed 90% of their shots, turned the ball over, and played like crap. I didn't expect to winning playing against an elite program on the road at the beginning of the season, but I expected some life in the scoring and to possibly make the Hokies work a little, but it never happened.
Reporter: "How do you plan to get your team prepared for the future games, including the one against the even tougher ACC team in Virginia?"
Coach Stanley: "I don't even want to think about that, I want to take it game by game and see how my team progresses. Who knows, maybe my team will come to life and possible force Virginia to play carefully."
Reporter: "Thank you and good luck with your team"
Next Game: Georgia State Panthers (0-1)(0-0) at Elon Phoenix (0-1)(0-0)

Georgia State Panthers @Elon Phoenix
The Phoenix had a slow start for the 2nd game in a row, however, they hit more shots then in the previous game, but they only went 7/24 from the field and 0/3 from beyond the arc. This team overall struggled for the 1st half of the 2nd time in a row. Trailing 31-16 at halftime.
The second half was just as bad in the beginning. The Phoenix managed to go on a small run in the end, scoring 8 more points than the first half and cutting the panthers scoring to one less point. But the phoenix received another devastating loss at home with the final score 61-40.
Afterwards we talked to Coach Stanley about the game.
Reporter: "Coach, what did you think of the performance at home court?"
Coach Stanley: "The team played better than last game, but not much. It's still a blowout, and being at home it makes it embarassing."
Reporter: "How do you plan to get your team prepared for the future games, including your next game at Georgia?"
Coach Stanley: "I don't know. Georgia is a much better squad than Georgia State, and we lost by 21 to them. This game against Georgia is most likely going to be a huge win.....for them."
Reporter: "Thank you and good luck with your team"
Next Game: Elon Phoenix (0-2)(0-0) at #20 Georgia Bulldogs (2-0)(0-0)

Elon Phoenix @Georgia Bulldogs
The Phoenix started the game strong, but towards the end of the 1st half they began to get worn out by the bulldogs' tough defense. Overall they had a decent 1st half, with the score being 39-21. They went into the locker room being in a position they've been in twice before, not sure if they'll have what it takes to make a comeback.
The second half wasn't much better. The phoenix played well from the paint. But they missed too many shots, turned the ball over too much, and couldn't complete. While the Georgia bulldogs were deadly from beyond the arc and forced turnovers and played excellent defense, overall crushing the Phoenix, handing them their 3rd straight loss with a final score of 72-45.
Afterwards we talked to Coach Stanley about the game.
Reporter: "Coach, what did you think of the performance against the #20 team in the nation?"
Coach Stanley: "The team played excellent in my opinion. They hit shots, played great defense, and attacked the basket. The only reason they were handed a loss was because of the skill of the bulldogs, playing at their homecourt, were phenomenal. This is a road win for our morale, it may not be in the books, but our team has to feel good about how they played. If they can continue to play like this, they could easily have a winning record and dominate in conference play."
Reporter: "Thank you and good luck with your team"

Well, your scores are actually pretty realistic in my opinion. Most of us (including myself) don't like losing, so we make it a little too easy (a lot of our legacies, myslelf included, end up with 20 wins in their first season whereas in real life they would not win 10). In reality, your scores are realistic, because Elon is not a good team at all. I make the excuse that I am a great coach and therefore I should win 20 games in the first year. :)

Try and adjust the sliders up in you favor and down for the computer until you get some closer scores. Like SuperJames said in the real world Elon probably wouldn't win more then 15 games but that doesn't mean you need to take a beating every time either. Personally I don't mind losing, if its a close game, in fact I find I get more enjoyment out of close losses more then blowout wins by my team.
nemzep95
March 24th, 2008, 06:11 PM
Yeah I agree, I'll adjust the sliders before my next game to help me out, then slowly raise the cpu sliders as I progress and eventually be able to play well at this difficulty. Also, how long do you usually stay at teams in closed legacy? I kno it's a minimum of two years.
boomosby50
March 24th, 2008, 06:20 PM
just find your key players too and get it to them, one player can take over a game
Deuce2223
March 24th, 2008, 06:21 PM
Depends on if the right team becomes availalbe and is to hard to pass up. I am a huge Boise State Bronco fan and they sometimes open up in year 2 and I am offered, so I have left, but its up to you.
Also it depends on how recruiting is going if you land a couple of guys you really like then its hard to leave sometimes.
MAK314
March 24th, 2008, 06:26 PM
I'm at Southern for my 5th year, and it's the team I started out with. Depending on how many things your coach has accomplished, a couple of not so good Mid-Major teams will usually offer you a job going into your third year (The first time you're allowed to take a new job). You can take one of those or if you have some good recruits coming in just stay with your team for another year. I coached Southern into the Top 25 (#25 just made it lol) and I'm a 7th seed in the NCAA Tournament this year so depending on how well I do in the Tournament and what job offers I get I might stay or leave. I usually wait until a better Mid-Major team offers me a job instead of taking a not so good one.
PS: I would not reccomend going from a small conference school to a power conference school because then you have to go back to a Mid-Major if you want that attribute point!

Elon Phoenix at VCU Rams
The Phoenix walked on the court hoping to end their 3 game losing streak and win their first game of the season. Both teams started out sluggish, missing shots and turning the ball over. The rams opened with a 12-2 run, causing Coach Stanley to take an immediate timeout. It didn't help much. They caused the rams to call 3 timeouts in the first half, while the only timeout called by the phoenix was at the beginning of the game. The halftime score was 30-19.
Reporter: "What do you think of your team's performance in the first half?
Coach Stanley: "Well, I think they're playing valiantly, only being behind by 11 points is pretty good. It's probably the closest we've been to a team at halftime, hopefully our players will continue to fight in the second half and may help us gain our first win of the season."
The second half was yet another sluggish start. It went up, down, up, down, up, do...you get the idea. The end, however, was explosive for the phoenix. A huge 3-pointer was hit by Borges, cutting the lead to 7 points at 60-53. Pressure across the court forced two turnovers from the Rams. The first shot was hit by Borges, making it 60-55. The second, however was blocked. The phoenix automatically fouled, and both free throws were drained, making it 62-55. The final second 3 shot by Borges was missed. The phoenix suffed a 4th straight loss.
Afterwards we talked to Coach Stanley about the game.
Reporter: "Coach, what did you think of the performance tonight?"
Coach Stanley: "The team played phenomenally. They did everything right! This was the first time we lost by single digits, meaning that this team is really improving. I expect a huge winning streak after this rugged losing streak."
Reporter: "How do you plan to get your team prepared for you first conference game against Western Carolina?
Coach Stanley: "I am going to simply tell them to play like they did tonight. If they can play like they just did, we can easily win against this team."
Reporter: "Thank you and good luck with your team"

THE ELON PHOENIX LOOK FOR THEIR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON
The Elon Phoenix went onto the court looking for blood. They we're determined to get a win. And in the first half they showed it. The beginning was sluggish, both teams missing some shots. Elon was down 12-11, and that's when the phoenix erupted. Elon took a 4 point lead, then it began to go back and fourth for a while, until Western Carolina hit a 3 to take a 23-22 lead, provoking a 9-4 run by the phoenix to end the half. The phoenix led for the first time this season at halftime, the score 31-27.
Reporter: "How does it feel to lead at the half for the first time in your career?"
Coach Stanley: "We're leading? I haven't even looked up at the scoreboard yet. But I am going to coach this team like I have all season, when we're behind by double digits at half time. I am going to coach them like WE'RE the ones behind at halftime so they don't get cocky and lose focus.
Reporter: "Okay, good luck in the second half"
The phoenix started off the half a little sluggish. Hitting a 2, but then receiving a 6-0 run from Western Carolina. The 2nd half was back and forth, both teams taking a decent lead then losing it. With 48 seconds left the game was tied at 58. The phoenix had the ball, and let the clock run down to 19 seconds, but they had to move in. Borges was fouled going into the paint, however, it wasn't a shooting foul. The phoenix inbounded with 19 seconds left. They let the clock wind down, borges had the ball with 5 seconds left and released a prayer from just inside the arc. It bounced, rolled, and gave a show. After what seemed like an eternity, it finally fell in, giving them a 60-58 point lead. Western Carolina inbounded with 2 seconds remaining, and releases full court three, which got blocked by D. Blair. The Elon Phoenix picked up their first win of the season with a final score of 60-58.
Reporter: "Coach Stanley, how does it feel to obtain your first career win?"
Coach Stanley: "I can't describe it! It feels wonderful to gain a win."
Reporter: "How long do you think this winning will last?"
Coach Stanley: "Hopefully it'll last a while. We still have difficult teams to play, it'll be a battle to obtain a winning record, but at least we have a win to speak for."
Reporter: "Okay, Congratulations."
Players of the Game:
Elon: D. Wood - 13 pts, 5/12 FG, 3/5 3PT
W. Carolina: C. Graham - 10 pts, 5 rebounds, 5/6 FG

Thanks. I have doubts on winning though, cause their rating was 71 and I barely beat them. The only bad thing about close games is it gets stressful lol. I thought I was going to lose cause I was called for a technical for intentionally fouling someone when they had the ball with a 1 pt lead. I was lucky they missed both free throws. I was prepared for overtime, but my players pulled through for me.
blue_apocalypse
March 25th, 2008, 11:17 AM
I don't think there are technical fouls in the game..and even if there were..the technical foul is just one shot and possesion. If they shot two free throws and they weren't fouled in the act of shooting then they must have been in the double-bonus.
nemzep95
March 25th, 2008, 11:24 AM
It wasn't. They said intentional foul then one player went to the line to shoot two, then they had possession. (the player shooting the free throws was the only one there, there weren't any rebounding players).

ELON PHOENIX SEEK THEIR SECOND WIN!!!
The phoenix ran onto the court with their heads held up high, feeling proud from their win. Both teams started the half off a little sluggish. The phoenix got into a huge rut quickly, as Furman went on a 15-2 run to have a lead of 24-13. However the phoenix followed it with a 12-4 run, ending with a midcourt three hit by D. Wood, giving them a halftime score of 28-25, the phoenix being behind.
Reporter: "What did you think of that halfcourt 3-pointer hit by Wood?"
Coach Stanley: "Well I looked in disbelief. We've been practicing those, but he's only hit like one or two in practice out of about 10-20 attempts. I was also impressed by those two steals he got after hit free throws to get us within 4. I hope he can share is momentum with his teammates and help us win this game."
Reporter: "Good luck in the second half, coach."
In the second half the phoenix started out somewhat strong, Wood hit another three to tie it at 30. After that it was back and forth for basically the whole game. Until the closing couple of minutes, when the phoenix just caught fire. The phoenix just couldn't miss, Wood draining a 3 pointer along with Hornsby, and Nielsen hitting field goals in the paint. The ending run gave a final score of 63-50, another win for the Elon Phoenix.
Reporter: "Wow, Coach Stanley, your team played phenomenally in the final seconds of the game. What do you have to say about their performance?"
Coach Stanley: "Well you've said about as much as I could. Their play schocked me. I expected a game like the one against Western Carolina, it going down to the wire. But with about 2 mins to go my guys started hitting shot after shot after shot, while playing excellent defense and forcing turnovers."
Reporter: "Have you thought about your next game against Wofford?
Coach Stanley: "I was actually thinking about that towards the end of the game. I think we should play decently. They're 0-3, so hopefully we won't have too hard of a time."
Reporter: "Thanks Coach and congratulations on your big win."

CAN THE PHOENIX MAINTAIN THEIR WINNING STREAK???
The Phoenix started the first half sloppy. Wofford jumped to a 6-0 lead, eventually making it an 11-2 lead over the phoenix. Coach Stanley immediately called a timeout. It must've had an affect, because both teams began trading buckets, and the phoenix slowly cut the lead, and even took a 19-17 lead. But they couldn't keep the lead, the halftime score being tied at 21.
Reporter: "Coach, what do you think of the performance your team had in the first half?"
Coach Stanley: "Well they started out sloppy, but managed to make a comeback. I think our biggest flaw is Wood. In our last couple of games he played well and scored us points, especially in our latest one against Furman. If he can come on fire then we can easily win this game. But essentially this is a new game, it being tied it's as if the score is 0-0 and we're playing the first half again to determine a winner, let's just hope our team starts better."
Reporter: "Thank you and good luck in the second half, Coach."
Both teams started out at a decent pace. Elon took an early 25-23 lead, until Wofford hit their first three-pointer of the day making it 26-25. However, it was all phoenix after that, going on an 8-0 run to take a 33-26 point lead, forcing an immediate timeout with 8:35 to go. Wofford went on a fair run of their own, hitting a layup and a three pointer, cutting it to a 2 point game. However, that's the closest they got. The phoenix caught on fire and never cooled down. They gained an enormous win in this game with a final score of 60-42.
Talking to the coach later....
Reporter: "Coach! What did you say to your players in the locker room to help them play well in the second half?"
Coach Stanley: "Well to be honest, I didn't say much. I told them they need to exploit the opponents biggest weakness, their three point shooting. In the end Wofford shot three after three after three, only draining 5 of their 28 attempts.
Reporter: "Wow. I looked at your schedule and your next 5 games are on the road. How are you preparing your players for that?"
Coach Stanley: "Well, I'm nervous to be honest. We play the 22 ranked Virginia in the middle of those games, and I'm hoping to beat Penn to gain our first non-conference win. If we lose both of those games it's going to hurt us in the end, not gaining a single non-conference win. But I'm going to have to get my players pumped and play their best.
Reporter: "One more questions: How much longer do you think this winning streak will last?"
Coach Stanley: "To be honest I think it'll last one, hopefully two more games. My team is good, and I expect them to play their best at Virginia. But I don't know if we'll be able to gain a win against one of the best teams in the nation, especially one that's in a power conference."

THE PHOENIX FACE THEIR FIRST ROAD CONFERENCE GAME, CAN THEY HIT .50?
The phoenix came onto the court hot, taking an early lead of 7-2, but the Mocs trimmed the lead and tied it, from where it went back and forth for most of the first half, until the phoenix went on a 8-0 run to take a 24-16 lead. They led at the half 26-18.
A reporter managed to catch up with Coach Stanley.
Reporter: "Coach, how does it feel to have such a large lead going into halftime against a team in their own building?"
Coach Stanley: "Well obviously it feels good. I was surprised by how the team stepped up to lead for most of the first half. Wood is still struggling from beyond the arc, but now once he gets in the paint you might as well go ahead and add two points to the score."
Reporter: "Well I hope he continues doing that in the second half, thanks coach."
The second half was about the same. Whenever the Mocs showed signs of life, they phoenix crushed it by a "swish" right through the net. Both teams struggled from beyond the arc, only hitting a couple on either side. The phoenix managed to pull away in the end with a win of 51-34.
The reporter ran after the coach to ask some questions.
Reporter: "Coach!!! You win your 4th straight game. You're team is the top team in the southern conference. How do you feel?"
Coach Stanley: "Well I feel decent. So far the conference teams we've played are on the bottom half of the conference rankings. Our next conference challenge is our first home game after this series of road games when we'll play Davidson."
Reporter: "Davidson has been struggling lately, why do you think you're team will struggle against them?"
Coach Stanley: "Well, all their non-conference games are against elite programs. They've only lost one conference game so far. I think the fact they'll be in our building will give us an advantage, but later in the season when we play some of the top conference teams on their court, then we'll probably struggle."
Reporter: "Well your next two games are non-conference games, away, and against good programs. How are you preparing for those tough road games?"
Coach Stanley: "I tell my players to ignore their fans, ignore the scoreboard, ignore everything. Just play your best and good things will come out of it. We may not win, but we may upset the #22 team in Virginia, but we might get blown out. The players will simply have to play their best and let their performance on the court speak for itself"
Reporter: "Good luck against the game at Penn."
Players of the Game:
Elon: D. Borges - 9 points, 3 rebounds, 9 assists, 3 steals
Chattanooga: G. Banks - 2 points, 10 rebounds, 1 block

PHOENIX GO ON THE ROAD SEEKING THEIR FIRST NON-CONFERENCE WIN!
The phoenix ran onto the court knowing what they wanted, opening with a 6-0 run. The rest of the half was all phoenix, leading by as much as 10 points. However, the phoenix got too comfortable with the lead and started playing sloppily, giving the other team essentially a 5 point play, cutting the lead to 5. After the phoenix expanded it back to 9, Penn went on a run and cut the lead to 2, the halftime score was 32-28.
A reporter stopped an irritated Coach Stanley heading to the locker room.
Reporter: "Hey coach, what happened to your team towards the end of the half?"
Coach Stanley: "My team is simply too used to winning. They're playing sloppily cause they think since they had a 10 point lead that the other team will give up and let them win. My team is going to have to buck up and continue playing well. If they continue playing sloppy in the second half, they'll lose and we'll be 0-5 in non-conference play. And if my team can't defeat this team, they don't have a shot at standing a chance against Virginia."
Reporter: "Good luck with your team in the second half, Coach."
The second half started out badly, both teams traded buckets, but Penn cut it to a 1 point game at a score of 41-40, but then the phoenix had a 4 point play by hitting a free throw, missing the second and getting the rebound, and getting a three point play. The phoenix expanded their lead to a score of 49-42, forcing Penn to take an automatic timeout. It was all phoenix from there on. Both teams struggled scoring, ending with a score of 61-50.
The same reporter caught up with a relieved Coach Stanley.
Reporter: "What are your reactions that your team managed to pull away and get the win?"
Coach Stanley: "I'm relieved that my team found themselves. This team didn't shoot better, but they played awesome defense and managed to out rebound the opponent."
Reporter: "Now that the Virginia match has arrived, how are you feeling?"
Coach Stanley: "They're an elite team, so I simply expect my team to keep up with them and give them something to sweat about. We've won 5 games in a row to gain a winning record, they deserve a game where they don't have to worry about my reaction if we lose. As long as they play their best, I'll be satisfied. This will be the toughest match of the regular season, but who knows, maybe we'll pull off the upset."
Reporter: "Well I hope you do, and congratulations on your first non-conference win!"
Players of the Game
Elon: D. Wood - 16 points, 2 rebounds, 2 steals

CAN ELON UPSET THE #22 TEAM IN THE NATION TO CONTINUE THEIR WINNING STREAK?
The phoenix started off well, taking a 4-0 lead. However, that is when Virginia caught fire, hitting threes. However, the phoenix were on fire with threes also, hitting 5/9 three pointers compared to Virginia's 4/12. Both teams played ecstatically. Elon showed no sign of letting up. The halftime score ended being all tied up at 31.
A new reporter ran up to the bedazzled Coach Stanley.
Reporter: "Coach, how do you think your team performed in the first half?"
Coach Stanley: "What happened to the other reporter, the cute girl?"
Reporter: "She had an exam to study for, but back to my question."
Coach Stanley: "Oh, right. I was amazed by their performance. I expected us to be trailing by maybe 5 or 6 points at the half. But being tied?!? Everytime my team hit a three I was amazed, I still can't believe it."
Reporter: "Well let's see if your team can hold up in the second half."
The second half was just as entertaining. It remained tight until the final minutes. The Cavaliers couldn't miss from beyond the arc, while the Phoenix we're fighting for a field goal. In the end the Cavaliers walked away with a 74-64 win.
The reporter caught up with a happy Coach Stanley.
Reporter: "Coach, you just lost a game by double digits; why are you happy?"
Coach Stanley: "I'm happy cause my team played the best I've ever seen them play.they hit 6 three pointers, only committed 1 turnover in the whole game, hit 8/9 free throws, and gave the #22 team in the nation a run for their money."
Reporter: "What was the one thing you wanted from your team in this game?"
Coach Stanley: "I wanted my team to make the Cavaliers sweat in their own building, which they did. The Cavaliers called 5 timeouts in the game, and our team didn't get blown out. I think when we replay this game back at home then my players will be astonished at how well they played. NCAA championship is out of the question, but if we land in the NIT then the other teams might want to watch out."
Reporter: "Well I'm pleased that you're happy with a loss, I hope the best for you and your team."
Players of the Game:
Elon: D. Wood - 18 points, 1 rebound, 2 assists, 1 steal
Virginia: L. Mullins - 24 points, 2 rebounds, 4/7 3 pointers

Yeah. Especially being on their homecourt. I think if I get into the NIT I might be able to win a couple of games. The Citadel is #2 in the Southern Conference, but I don't think I'll have too much of a problem. My biggest remaining challenges are Davidson and Appalachian State (both of which I play twice).

That game kind of reminded me of when I went to #1 Kansas earlier in the year and hung with them for most of the game. I was down 50-42 at halftime and lost 95-79, but they were definitely sweating in their own gym and they didn't pull away until about 3 or 4 minutes left in the game.

Yes, it was with my North Florida team. I hung with Kansas throughout most of the game, and even being down 12-15 at times, I came back and made it a game. A couple of key plays for Kansas helped them pull away for the win.

Lol. I don't have the real names. It'd probably be harder if I did. But I don't have it hooked up to the internet, can I use 2k Share if I have silver membership?

THE TOP TWO TEAMS IN THE SOUTHERN CONFERENCE GO HEAD-TO-HEAD!!!
"This team is the only other team that is undefeated in the southern conference, and it's on their home court, so we have to take this game seriously." Said Coach Stanley to reporters as he walked onto the court.
Coach Stanley's Phoenix knew what they had to do and did it well. They shot a whopping 60% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc, while the Citadel Bulldogs struggled from all forms of basketball. They shot 36% from the field and couldn't hit any threes. The phoenix performed and took a 32-19 lead at halftime.
Reporter Bob Krzyzewski caught up with Coach Stanley.
Reporter K.: Coach, how does it feel to have a 13 point lead over the team right behind you for #1 in the SoCon standings?"
Coach Stanley: "It feels nice, especially because my team managed to bring the momentum they had from the Virgina game over to this one."
Reporter K: "What did you think of the buzzer beater three pointer that Blair hit right before halftime?"
Coach Stanley: "I'm happy because it's his first three pointer of the season, and it couldn't have come at a better time. But I was a little surprised because they usually don't pass it up court like that, but with 5 seconds they passed it cross-court to Blair who got in good position and hit a three."
Reporter K: "The first half was amazing, good luck in the second half."
The second half was a battle. Both teams traded buckets, the bulldogs cutting the lead to 6 at 47-41, but that was the closest they could manage. The phoenix dominated, especially with D. Borges getting his first double double of his career. The phoenix ripped away the win with a final score of 61-49.
Later Reporter Krzyzewski caught up with Coach Stanley.
Krzyzewski: "Coach, congratulations on taking a big lead in the SoCon standings. What do you see in the future?"
Coach Stanley: "College of Charleston is our last road game in this series of 5, then we'll play Davidson on our home court. Davidson will be a difficult battle. They have two heart-breaking conference losses, but I think they will pose a serious threat."
Krzyzewski: "And what about College of Charleston? Will they be a difficult road game?"
Coach Stanley: "All road games are difficult, Bob, but this one will be especially difficult. They have a nice 5-7 overall record, which is extremely good compared to the records of other teams in this conference."
Krzyzewski: "Your team is the only one in the souther conference that is at or above .50, what does that show for this conference?"
Coach Stanley: "It doesn't show much. The season isn't nearly over yet, any team could go on a winning streak and deal damage. It may be us, or it may be a team like Davidson or Appalachian State, which is why we have to be on our toes and play at our best."

THE PHOENIX TAKE ON THE COUGARS TO REMAIN PERFECT IN THE CONFERENCE!!!!
The phoenix entered the building with confidence that they're 5-0 in the conference, but the Cougars were looking to end that streak. The phoenix couldn't hit a shot if they bribed someone. They played great defense like normal, but couldn't find their offense. They shot 20% in the first half, and the cougars shot 25%. The half ended with the cougars leading 18-16.
Bob Krzyzewski managed to catch up with an infuriated Coach Stanley.
Krzyzewski: "Coach, what happened in the first half?"
Coach Stanley: "I'm not commenting, I need all the time I can get whipping my team into shape for the second half."
The enraged coach stormed off as he finished saying his statement.
The second half was slightly better. The phoenix managed to make a huge run to take a decent lead. However, the cougars hit with a run of their own. The phoenix missed key free throws in the end, rebounding one miss. Luckily the cougars weren't shooting too well, or else it could've been a completely different outcome. The final score was 47-41, the phoenix pulling out the win.
Krzyzewski caught up with a more peaceful Coach Stanley.
Krzyzewski: "Now that your team won, what do you have to say about their performance?"
Coach Stanley: "Their performance wasn't much better in the second half. Yes they went on a run to take a 13 point lead. But then they turned the ball over 3 consecutive times and allowed the opponent to trim our lead to 9. Had our opponent been shooting better, we would've lost."
Krzyzewski: "I hope your team performs better in the future."

WILDCATS SHOOT LIGHTS OUT AT ELON!!!!
The phoenix came out determined to win. However the first few minutes of play didn't show it. Davidson shot threes like nuts, leading to a 21-4 run to open the first half, automatically forcing a rare timeout from Coach Stanley. He basically got them to switch their defense to guard against the three pointers Davidson loved to hit. The timeout didn't help. Davidson ended the half 12/19 from beyond the arc. The halftime score was Davidson ahead 48-21.
The second half was even worse. Davidson continued draining three pointers and took a humongulous lead. The phoenix received their first conference loss, while davidson picked up a winning conference record at 3-2.
Reporter Krzyzewski caught up with a disappointed Coach Stanley.
Krzyzewski: "I am severely sorry for your loss. What does this reveal about the future in conference play?"
Coach Stanley: "Well it obviously reveals we aren't the best in the conference. We must continue to work hard and maybe next time we can defeat the Wildcats on their own court."
Krzyzewski: "What might make the difference in the next game?"
Coach Stanley: "I doubt they can have another night of hot three point shooting, so if they shoot badly from beyond the arc then we can beat them."
Krzyzewski: "Okay thank you and good luck."

THE PHOENIX FIGHT TO PREVENT TWO CONSECUTIVE LOSSES!!!!!
"We need to play better offense if we plan to win this game." Said Coach Stanley before the game.
The phoenix entered the gymnasium with a mission to take their anger out on Furman for their blowout loss to Davidson. They struggled and got down 19-8. However, the phoenix caught flight and closed the first half with a 11-2 run, making the halftime score 21-20, Furman lead.
Bob Krzyzewski talked to Coach Stanley before halftime.
Krzyzewski: "Coach, what did you tell your players to get them going on such a run?"
Coach Stanley: "I basically told them if they didn't want to be blown out for the second time in a row they need to work on cutting their lead to single digits by halftime."
Krzyzewski: "Well it worked. Good luck in the second half."
The second half was close, mainly back and forth. The commentators lost track of how many ties there were in this game. But the back and forth made on tie that no one missed. In the last minute the phoenix thought they had it sealed with a 6 pt lead. But Furman got the ball and hit a 3, fouled Borges who missed the free throw. Then with 18 seconds left Furman went up for a 3 and drained it, to tie it at 50. Borges went down the court and attempted to win it for his team with a two, but it bounced off the rim.
Borges had to sit out with 4 fouls for the OT. So Sommersville played as the main man in the beginning of OT. The beginning of OT seemed like the phoenix would dominate going on a 8-2 run. However, two consecutive threes from Furman gave them a 60-58 lead, and it went back and forth from there. With 30 seconds left it was tied at 64 and Furman had the ball. The phoenix pressure forced a turnover, so they waited for the last shot. Borges got in the paint and shot, but again it bounced off the rim. There would be a second overtime.
In the second overtime everything went wrong for the phoenix. Borges picked up his 5th foul early on and had to sit the rest of the game out. Furman started hitting threes, giving them a decent lead. The phoenix managed to make a run to bring it within 2, but Furman hit the free throws after that, and basically kept hitting free throws. The phoenix picked up an upsetting loss of 83-75 in double overtime.
After the game Bob Krzyzewski caught up with a disappointed Coach Stanley.
Krzyzewski: "Coach, how does it feel to lose in double overtime?"
Coach Stanley: "Well obviously it's disappointed, Bob. Now we're slapped back at .500 and now we pick up our second loss of the conference. I'm just glad we forced them into two overtimes to pick up the win, my players are disappointed though knowing they had plenty of opportunities to steal the win.
Krzyzewski: "I'm sorry for your bad loss, I'll let you go now."

PHOENIX LOOKING TO BREAK THEIR LOSING STREAK!!!!
The phoenix came on their court starting like they had given up on the season, trailing 7-0. However, they sparked and tied it at 11, soon taking a 13-11 lead. The game looked like it would be a tight one . However, that's when the phoenix took flight and soared high. After leading 19-16, they went on a 22-2 run to close the first half, giving them a 41-18 lead at halftime.
Bob Krzyzewski stopped a happy Coach Stanley.
Krzyzewski: "Coach, your team performed extraordinarily at the end of the first half, how would you describe that kind of performance?"
Coach Stanley: "I'm not sure that I can describe that performance. It's the best that my team has done this season. Played tough defense and offense. Getting offensive rebounds in the paint and putting them back in, getting steals, and getting three point plays does wonders when playing a good team like this."
Krzyzewski: "Okay, I'm sure they'll continue it in the second half."
The second half wasn't much different. Both teams going on runs, then answering the other team with a run of their own. This half was mainly trading buckets, eventually handing the phoenix their 8th win of the season with a final score of 68-44.
Bob Krzyzewski talked to Coach Stanley again.
Krzyzewski: "Congratulations on a win. How much does this win mean to you and your team?"
Coach Stanley: "It means a lot. It brings confidence back to this team and the fans. My players shot extremely well today against a good team."
Krzyzewski: "Do you think you will be able to hang on to this winning record for the rest of the season? Also, do you think your team will win the conference tournament?"
Coach Stanley: "Well I hope so. But we have a long ways to go. As for the tournament, if these guys play like they did tonight, we have a shot at that championship. But there are plenty of teams that could defeat us."
Krzyzewski: "How would you respond to a Elon vs. Davidson championship match-up?"
Coach Stanley: "My team would probably love it. What better time to seek revenge on a team the blew you out of your own building than in a championship match?"
Krzyzewski: "Well I'll be rooting for you."

THE PHOENIX LOOK TO STAY IN THE RUNNING FOR THE SOCON CHAMPIONSHIP!!!
"We have to play good defense and not allow them to make too many shots" said a confident Coach Stanley.
1st Half:
Both teams started the game out hot, the Phoenix constantly taking a big lead then the Spartans drilling back with three pointers. It was a real battle. However, the Spartans failed to lead at all in the first half, but the score being tied at 32 and the possession arrow in their favor, they might take their first lead in the second half. The Spartans went 5/11 from beyond the arc in the first half compared to the Phoenix's 0/3.
Halftime Interview
Krzyzewski: "What we're your mistakes in the first half, if any?"
Coach: "We allowed way too many three's. I expected a battle from this team, and we got it. Once we we're up by 6-8 points my players got confident, and at times cocky. Then the Spartans drilled a few threes and next thing you know it's a 1 point game."
Krzyzewski: "Good luck in the second half, coach."
2nd Half:
In the first 12 seconds of the half the Spartans managed to hit a lay-up to gain their first lead of the game at 34-32. The Phoenix scored to buckets in a row, then after a huge drought on either side, the Phoenix went on a 6-0 run to take the lead 44-38 with 8:05 to go. However the spartans wouldn't give up. They tied it at 46 with a few minutes to go. Both teams traded buckets for the last 2 minutes. Then the Phoenix turned the ball over with 49.2 seconds left to go with the game tied at 56. The Spartans passed the ball into the paint for an under the rim shot, however the great defense from the Phoenix caused the ball to clash with the front of the rim. The Phoenix grabbed the rebound with 34 seconds to go and the shot clock turned off. They let the clock drain to 9 seconds, then Borges passed the ball to Nielson in the paint, he raised up for the shot, and it went in with 1.8 seconds left to go. The Spartans inbounded the ball a threw a full-court prayer that almost went in, but luckily hit the back of the rim and bounced off. Final score was 58-56.
After Game Interview
Krzyzewski: "Coach, that was an intense game! What was going through your mind when your team turned the ball over with less than a minute to go?"
Coach: "Well I felt sick to my stomach. My team isn't good at coming from behind under pressure. They are better at hitting shots when the game is tied or they have the lead. I was hoping that the opponent would shoot a desperate three and miss it like they we're all half. But the defensive effort shown by my players to force the player to hit the front of the rim when trying to dunk it in the final seconds was extraordinary."
Krzyzewski: "What about your next game against West Carolina?"
Coach: "It's going to be a tough match. Our last meeting was similar to the one tonight, a shot at the end of the game won it for us."
Krzyzewski: "Congratulations on your big win tonight coach."
Players of the Game
Elon: C. Nielson - 22 points, 11 rebounds, 2/2 free throws

Thanks, now Wofford is my competition being 6-2. But I got a HUGE break cause Davidson lost a conference game and fell to 7-3. Had they won that we'd be tied for the lead, but now Davidson and Wofford are a game behind. All my remaining games are going to be tough. I have 6 road games and 4 home games. W. Carolina is the first game in a series of 5 road games, all of which are good teams, so I'm expecting at least one or two losses out of this stretch, but who knows.

THE PHOENIX LOOK TO EXPAND THEIR LEAD IN THE SOCON STANDINGS!!!!
Pre-Game Interview
"We must take this game seriously because a bad conference loss could cost us a good seeding in the conference tournament." Said Coach Stanley minutes before the tip-off.
1st Half
The first half started out like the last, both teams trading buckets and constantly tying and changing leads. However, in the last few minutes of the first half the Catamounts caught fire, draining threes and expanding to a lead that baffled the Phoenix. Both teams went into the locker room, the Catamounts leading 38-27.
Halftime
Krzyzewski: "Your team is behind big at halftime, what are some adjustments you plan to make to get back into this game?"
Coach: "I plan on telling my team to stop giving them easy looks from beyond the arc. We played well offensively and defensively, but they got a couple easy threes, heck even threes that were contested seemed to go through the net for them."
Krzyzewski: "Good luck in the second half coach."
2nd Half
The second half didn't get much better. Even when the Catamounts struggled, the Phoenix struggled even more. This loss may come back to bite them later putting them tied for second place with a Davidson team that they play in a week and a half. The Phoenix walk home with another loss of 67-49.
After Game Interview
Krzyzewski couldn't catch up with the Coach and was a bit too afraid to.

THE PHOENIX AIMING TO MAKE A COMEBACK AGAINST THE MOUNTAINEERS!!!
Pre-Game Interview
"This game will be tough. We are huge underdogs going up against a team as good as App. State. If we lose this game then we may not have a shot at the #1 seed in the conference tournament, but a #2 seed is still in sight." Said Coach Stanley.
1st Half
The first half was about as good as the one against Western Carolina. The Phoenix missed a lot of shots and got in a big hole, which they managed to trim to 5 points before blowing it again and getting into an 11 point ditch at halftime. The halftime score was 45-34.
Halftime Interview
Krzyzewski: "Your team is struggling again in the first half, what do you have to say about that?"
Coach: "I have one word: "DUH!!!!" We might not have another good game this season. Hopefully my players can suck it up and perform well in this game and future games. A road win here would be huge, but it is a far way away."
Krzyzewski: "Good luck in the second half."

THE PHOENIX LOOK TO SNAP THEIR LOSING STREAK!!!!
1st Half
Both teams played well, but the Phoenix couldn't keep up with the Spartans in yet another halftime trailing by double digits. At the end of the first half the Spartans led 35-25.
2nd Half
The Phoenix came out looking like they wouldn't do much better than the first. However, towards the end the Phoenix made a huge run to tie it at 52 and take it in to overtime.
OT
Both teams played well. All seemed well for the Phoenix win they had a 60-57 lead over the Spartans. However, the Spartans went on a 8-0 run to lead 65-60 with 10 seconds to go. The Phoenix got down the court and hit a big three to make it 65-63. However when the Spartans inbounded the ball the Phoenix didn't foul, no matter how much the Coach screamed for them to foul, they just double teamed and the clock ran out with the Spartans winning it 65-63 in overtime.

THE PHOENIX SEEK REVENGE ON THE WILDCATS!!!!
Pre-Game Interview
"My team is playing poorly and if they continue to play like they have been then this one wont even be close." Said a Coach Stanley with no confidence.
1st Half
The first half seemed like it would become a blow out, however the phoenix may a decent run and tried to hang on as close as they could. They ended up trailing at halftime by 5 points with a score of 37-32.
Halftime Interview
Krzyzewski: "Coach, what's different from your last meeting with this team that's allowing you to be close?"
Coach: "They aren't hitting nearly as many three pointers as last time. And my team is shooting better. If they can play then they can win any game."
Krzyzewski: "Good luck in the second half."
2nd Half
The first half started out like it'd be a repeat of the last game. However, with less than 2 minutes to go the Phoenix went on a run to tie it at 55. From there it was miss central. Neither team scored for a minute or so. Until the Phoenix scored with 45 seconds to go. They gained the lead 57-55... The Phoenix stole the inbound, and were going to drain the clock as low as possible. With around 25 seconds left the Phoenix went up for a shot!!!! Rolled off the rim and the Wildcats got the rebound with the shot clock turned off. They we're planning to take the last shot, but that was when Borges swiped the ball and Nielsen got it and was immediately fouled. He drained both free throws, putting them up 59-55 with only 15 seconds to go. Everyone thought it was over, that's when the Wildcats took a 3 and drained it, making it 59-58. The phoenix inbounded with 1.8 seconds and were immediately fouled. Borges drained both free throws, giving them a 61-58 lead. The Wildcats inbounded and forced a prayer, but they missed and ended the Phoenix's losing streak. The whole team rejoiced that they defeated a quality team on the road, which is exactly what they needed to boost momentum for closing the season.
After Game Interview
Krzyzewski: "COACH!!!! HOW DOES IT FEEL TO GAIN THE WIN HERE IN DAVIDSON'S BUILDING?!?!?!"
Coach: "It feels awesome. To take on a team that beat us on our court by 39 and take them out on their own court makes our confidences soar, and it couldn't be at a better time. If my team plays like this they could easily win all of their remaining games."
Krzyzewski: "You're next game is at Wofford, the #1 team in the SoCon. What do you think about that match-up?"
Coach: "Winning against them would help our chances of possible placing 2nd or, if we're lucky, 1st. The chances of us getting 1st are slim, but placing 2nd is definitely possible. If we can beat Appalachian State on our own court then we may be able to pass them in the standings. But if we lose more than one or two games then we might be lucky to place 4th."
Krzyzewski: "Okay, congrats on your win and good luck in your final games."
Players of the Game:
Elon: D. Borges - 21 points, 4 rebounds, 8 assists, 7 steals
Davidson: B. Whaley - 18 points, 4 assists, 1 steal, 2/3 3 pointers
Next Game

TIP-OFF OF THE 2008-2009 SEASON FOR THE PHOENIX!!!!
Pre-Game Interview
Reporter K: "Coach, you defeated this team in a close upset, do you think you'll do it again?"
Coach Stanley: "I honestly hope we can. But we're missing a key player that could make the difference, and it's Borges. He was a huge key player last season, but now that he's gone it may be more difficult."
Reporter K: "Good luck in the game and pull off that upset again!!"
1st Half
The beginning of the first half seemed like the Phoenix were going to blow the Spartans out of their own building. They had a double digit lead for most of the first half, destroying the spirits of the Spartans. However, Michigan State went on a huge run to tie it and at a couple times taking the lead. It remained close for the whole half, ending the half 32-30 Phoenix leading.
Half-Time Interview
Reporter K: "Coach! Your team is playing well against this team, what do you think of their efoort so far?"
Coach Stanley: "They're playing well, but it's mainly because Michigan State got off to a slow start. They played poorly in transition. But then in the end they began to play great defensively, giving us troubles."
Reporter K: "Good luck in the second half coach."
2nd Half
The second half was pretty much the same. The Phoenix expanding to a large lead, then losing it, then getting it back. Michigan State led by 6 at one point but lost it after a few minutes of gameplay. In the end the Phoenix couldn't miss shots and ended up winning the game 72-61.
After Game Interview
Reporter K: "How does it feel to defeat the #4 team in the nation?"
Coach Stanley: "Well defeating this team is a huge accomplishment for this team because it is the only power conference team we're playing in the regular season. If our players play like this all season then we have a tremendous chance to do some damage and get back to the ncaa at the end of the season."
Reporter K: "Well I'll let you go celebrate with your team and congratulations."
Coach Stanley: "Thanks."

THE PHOENIX PLAY THEIR FIRST REGULAR SEASON TOURNEY WITH COACH STANLEY!!!
Honda Classic Round 1
Pre-Game Interview
Reporter K: "How have you felt about your first regular season tournament?"
Coach Stanley: "I've felt pretty good about it. We just came off a good win over Michigan State, so my team is ready to take on any team."
Reporter K: "Good Luck against Bradley."
1st Half
The beginning of the game looked grim on both sides, both making runs but then going on a slump. The phoenix eventually managed to get an 11 point lead, the it went back and forth throughout the rest of the half, then made a run at the end, only to trail 39-30 at halftime.
Halftime Interview
Reporter K: "You're team was looking good early on, but then the opponent came back a little, how do you expect to stay ahead?"
Coach Stanley: "Well, we have to stop turning the ball over and keep hitting shots and playing good defense."
Reporter K: "It was just announced that Florida beat UC Riverside to advance and play the winner of this game, how do you plan to prepare for that match-up?"
Coach Stanley: "One game at a time. If we win this, then you can ask me about it."
Reporter K: "Okay, I definitely will. Bueno suerte in the second half."
Coach Stanley: "Gracias."
2nd Half
For most of the second half it was simply a replica of the first half. Bradley would go on a run and then the Phoenix would just punch back. However, in the last few minutes of the games it got intense. With 46 seconds left the Phoenix were ahead 59-56, but Bradley got in the paint and scored AND got a three-point play, tying it at 59. The Phoenix took it up the court with a mere 15 or so seconds left. They drained it a little, Blair was open, so he took the deuce......SCORE!!!!! THE PHOENIX WON 61-59!!!! -celebrations took place-
After Game Interview
Reporter K: "Coach! You won!!! How does it feel to win your first regular season tournament game???"
Coach Stanley: "It feels great! Blair really stepped up to help us in this game. The Seniors, Nielson and Henderson, we're a determining factor also. Nielsen hit 3/4 from the line and Henderson racked up 10 assists and 3 steals. This team is doing extremely well this season and is capable of winning the conference title this season."
Reporter K: "Now that you've won, what are you thinking about your next game against Florida?"
Coach Stanley: "It's going to be a tough one. We beat Michigan State, so maybe we'll beat Florida. But it's unpredictable, and if we lose this, we always have the consolation round."
Reporter K: "Well I'll be rooting for you coach!"
Coach Stanley: "Thank you."

THE PHOENIX TAKE ON THE LEGENDARY GATORS!!!!!
1st Half
The game started out grim for the Phoenix as they trailed 12-2 early one. They managed to hit shots and get it to 12-6, but the Gators wouldn't relinquish their lead, maintaining a decent lead until the end of the second half, when the Phoenix managed to cut it to a 24-21 Gator lead at halftime.
Half Time Interview
Reporter K: "Coach, you're down by three, how are you going to change this?"
Coach Stanley: "I'll simply talk to them, in our last game against Bradly we were down by 3 points at the half but we won by 2."
Reporter K: "I'll let you go so you can talk to your players, good luck in the second half."
Coach Stanley: "Thanks."
2nd Half
The second half started better for the Phoenix, tying it at 25, then again at 27. But that's the closest they got. The Gators went on a 10-0 run to lead 37-27. It was all down from there, giving the Phoenix their biggest loss in about a year. The Phoenix lost 64-48.
