A quote from Wreck1Wreckall.

Played him two three times and lost all, no matter what D or strategy I tried.

7-7, ok 14-7, now I'm winning next thing I know it's 28-14, 35-21, I mean I give up.

No matter how good you think you are there's someone better, and you need to know when to quit.

I'm done for good fellas, forced retirement, countless hours, and still can't beat alot of players.

Great game, will focus back on my true passion

I have been cutting back on the games played for about two weeks now. My wife uses the internet to watch re-runs of Grey's Anatomy and I got a new job. I'm usually on after 10pm for one or two games.

Is APF2K8 winding down or is there still some fire left?

Hey John, I at one point had to say to myself as well when 2k5 was in its hey days.

It was not because I was gettin beat. It was due to me finally saying enough is enough. I was 24 and had just moved to canada and still found myself devoting my time to this game when I could be out there experiencing life and new things.

I dropped the the game, picked up acting--which I had always wanted to do since I was 16-- Through the acting class I found new friends that I will be life long friends with. also found a job through acting that I excel at and am passionate about. At the same job I found someone that I will make my wife in the near future and am at the happiest time of my life.

Passion. You need to follow yours. Detox yourself from this thing and I tell you, you will be a whole lot happier.

I only got back into this last nov when I had gone over to my fams house and seen my bro play. Played a few and liked it. Now I only play for fun without the same amount of focus I used to. I play it with in a balance. Find ures and u can come back to it some day.

Have fun out there.

ah yes, the 2k3-2k5 days
we were ALL addicts on the xbox forums

we used to post all day at work, then come home and play all night.

looking back, it was BAD.
i never stopped living my life, but the online gaming did keep me home more than i liked(now looking back)

now-a-days i still play but i like that i have a hobby at my house.
i even got my girl a wii so she can play or WE can play.

videogames arent life,m but they can be a PART of your life......just dont let them run your life.

I go through phases where I get frustrated and quit for a few days, then I get energized and play several games a day. I rarely play more than 2 games a day except on weekends so I think this prevents me from getting burned out. People who play 5-10 games a day blow my mind. I also made it a rule long ago that the game would never seriously interrupt my real life. I still go out and hang out with my friends. They are still more important than playing a game. I don't think you have to choose though. I am in as many leagues as anyone and I still get most of my games played.

BTW, beating good players is a matter of persistence. I think the whole idea of someone who "can't win the big one" is not borne out by history at all. If you look at Super Bowls, so many people who supposedly couldn't win the big one eventually did by persistence. The Colts couldn't win the big one for ever in the 70s, losing to the Jets in Super Bowl IV... until they beat the Cowboys in Super Bowl V. The Cowboys were labeled as a team that couldn't win the big one...until they did in Super Bowl VI. The Raiders in the 70s won something like 12 division titles in 15 years, but couldn't make it to the Super Bowl...until they won it in 1976. What Madden said was that the biggest mistake you could make was to blow up the team when you were 1 or 2 plays from going the distance, yet so many owners do exactly this because of this myth of not being able to win the big one. For years John Elway was a guy who couldn't win the big one...until he won back to back Super Bowls in 97 and 98. After losing 3 division championships at home, the modern Steelers and Bill Cowher were said to be unable to win the big one...until they won 4 road games in a row in 2005 and went the distance. Peyton Manning lost big games in college and the Pros against Florida and New England, and it was said of him that he couldn't win the big one...until he did in 2006.

The fact is when you are in a Super Bowl you are playing a really good team and chances are you may lose- heck, someone has to. Same goes for playing good players. But I have found that playing good players forces me to expand my game and eventually I beat almost all of them. Not immediately, and not consistently, but it can happen.

Wreck,

That is great advice . Unfortunately, since I got a new Xbox a little over a month ago, I have fallen prey to this game once again.

I have been working from home and that has made it even harder break the habit, and even harder to get work done. But, I will be starting a new job in 2 weeks, with benefits so good I will actually be able to retire at a decent age. So, in two weeks I may have to actually sell my Xbox so, I can get back to a normal life.

I don't take this game that serious anymore, even though I am still playing far to much. As a matter of fact, sometimes I don't even control a player on defense, I just pick a defense and watch to see what happens.

Anyways, detox is in my near future and hopefully I can get back to a normal life again. I think my main problem is that in everything I do I am a perfectionist. So, I am constantly trying to build the perfect team and constantly swapping players to try different player combos. Even though I know that a perfect team does not exist.

bofa,

i hope you don't retire again. you are right near the top of guys i really enjoy playing.

i have a wife, job, home, dog, son, church, friends etc. (not necessarily in that order) and still find time to play a game or 2 or 3.

I always enjoy playing you as well. We have great games and it always seems to be decided by 1 score.

I hope I can still find time to get some games in but, if I feel it is taking time away from my family and friends it may be time to get rid of it. Because, I have no self control when it comes to this stupid game.

As a matter of fact I should be working right now. :)

it's called balance... in addition, your family won't tell you this, but sometimes they like when you are away from them.

^^^ I definitely agree with this. Just play a game or two a day. That pretty much gives me my football fix and I am fresh and ready to come back to it later.

Bofa. For sure man , u have ure priorities right. Get right what has a real consequence in life, not a game.

I used to take forum stuff seriously in my younger days. I stir it up for fun now. Past the stuff and grew up enough to realize what is meaningful to my life and means something in reality.

I didnt quit because I was satisfied with how I played online or I thaught that was the best. I quit because life hit me in the face and said wake the heck up. you are missing out on me.

This year has been the only year when anyone has ever, i mean ever led a series against me in football. IM talking about playing 2k3 and on against the who is who of this game. But i know that it isnt the end of the world and I feel proud of how I handle it. I know its a game but I feel proud of the fact that I grew up and out of that mentality cause it can be hold you from concrete and substantial, REAL stuff.
