I have absolutely no complaints with the fielding mechanics. There are some strange fielding glitches that do rid the experience at time, but the mechanical changes were much needed in 2K's stale fielding engine. Fielding has been a problematic issue in all 2K baseball games, and this is probably their best outing. Some of the things that do happen look very good and provide realistic results. Seeing balls missed off the glove or bad hops that hurt catching ability keeps you on your toes.

Totally agree with you there. I wish they got rid of the ball under glove error by just a small amount. However, that can be fixed in the sliders so all is well.

This doesn't have to do with user fielding but one thing that really gets under my skin is how runners get thrown out from right field before they reach 1st base. It has probably happened in an actual MLB game before. I could envision some lazy fat lard like Mo Vaughn getting thrown out on this play. But I myself have never seen it happen. Twice now in 50 gms played I've seen Richie Sexon and Ryan Zimmerman get thrown out on a line drive hit that bounces in front of the right fielder, the right fielder quickly picks it up then makes the throw to 1st base just in the knick of time to get the runner out. I must have played a thousand gms on MVP 2005 and only once, just once, did I see this occur. BTW, I've only seen this happen online.

I like the new throwing controls. My only gripe is it seems sometimes the fielders aren't urgent enough in their movements in hot situations (after picking up the ball). Doesn't always happen, but occasionally.

Other than that, no complaints :)

Ya I remember like Matt Stairs (Expos days) like throwing out some pitcher or something. I just remember that, and I'm like wow, and then I could just imagine Matt getting caught in that exact same thing.

I think the new throwing meters are great! I do have an idea for them, if you play a player out of his primary position the green area in the throwing meter should be shrunk, making it more difficult to make an accurate throw. Just a thought, what do you guys think? :D

I think that is a good idea, but I think the amount of green should have to do with the throwing accuracy.

I'm not too sure, I have been playing with the total control and having fun but at the same time I'm used to the classic.. easier and lazy way ;) I kinda hate how sometimes they go all the way to max as soon as i press the stick. I know it's probably the way their stance is or whatever.

I think this is a cool idea. Definitely post it in the ideas for 2K9 when we get to this point...

The throwing mechanics are great. It was the direction that MVP 05 was taking before the exclusivity thing. Anyone who has played NCAA baseball, really enjoyed it by the way, would see that it also uses the same throwing mechanic. Also, CUBFAN, I think that idea is a must, can't tell you have many times and outfielder has been used as a catcher against me and was throwing my guys out left and right.

You should be happy with them. The whole throwing meter and such is straight outa MVP Baseball.

I think we are at that point now ronnie :)

I would like to suggest that in 2k9 that we take the right analog pitching contol and expand it to all the throwing in the game. I know how you guys hate meters and such. So you would have to pull back on the stick to the proper amount to control the strength of the throw and how accurately you push the toward the base you want to throw it to will account for the accuracy of the throw. Then you can get rid of the all the meters :)

Perhaps also you can make a right analog run mechanic for running the basepaths as well. you have to continually move the stick back and forth to make the guy run. The faster you do it the faster he will run up to his natural speed of course. I know you guys don't like autmatic stat controlled features either so this could be call Total run control to compliment my idea for Total Throw control. :D

How do you like that idea. "Total Right Analog Stick Control" 2k9

I really enjoy the new fielding. Last year in 2K7, defense had a feeling in which you were never really in control and just kind of assisiting the computer get to the right spot to go into a canned animation. The throws were delayed. And to top everything off, you were told when to dive and jump way before you actually went into the animation.

This year, the controls are much more responsive and the analog throwing was a needed change to this series.

As far as improvements and changes:

I would like to fight tooth and nail for a "catch" button. I think we are to the point where running into the ball to make a catch is too easy. We use the "R" trigger to make a jumping catch and a diving catch, so why not use it to make a regular catch or to field a ground ball? As long as you offer other systems (analog and classic), nobody would be impacted negatively.

I would also like to see the results of throws more dynamic. Offline throws occure more often, but are limited to how bad they can be. I can be as far off as possible on lining up a throw to the plate from the outfield and only miss my catcher by 5 or 6 feet. I have yet to see a throw that is so far off line, my fielder misses it and my backup is forced to chase it. I see this occasionally on throws in the dirt, but never on throws that miss left or right.

I would also like to see a throw modifier where we can force a player to toss a ball underhand. I still see awkward situations where a player is 5 or 6 feet away from another player and throws it as hard as he can.

I would like to be able to continue to throw the ball after a play is dead. I can see why this wouldn't fly in online play, but in offline, it's a good way to pratice throwing. I would even like the idea of having to return the ball to the pitcher.

A new throwing system for catchers would be cool. I didn't like the old system in 2K7 because it slowed things down and screwed up the flow of the game, but maybe some sort of back and forth motion could be used here.

The bottom line is they have a solid base built now and can find ways to be innovative (as long as they don't take anything away).

nice idea, but The running would need to be tweecked a lil bit.
