Hey guys, try turning off these options in the XMB and let me know if you get any better results as far as framerates/cutscenes/lighting. I noticed that the game tends to chug more with all these options turned on. I'd appreciate it if you let me know what you see, if anything. I noticed a difference on my end, curious about others.

Unbelieveable.
I guess for PS3 users who actually prefer this crap to The Show, you are pretty much F'd.
Nice job 2K. I guess 30, maybe 35% of your baseball fan base doesn't matter. If it wasn't for the NBA franchise, this company should just give in to EA. Gulp. I can't believe I said that being the EA hater that I am.

The first patch will not address the framerate issue for the PS3 because it differs from the 360. However, it has already been noted that the PS3 needs more observation on the problem before it can be solved (since it differs from the 360). Ronnie has been compiling notes on the issue to help find a solution. Until then, PS3 users will have to understand and wait.

I don't know if this is correct, but last night I changed some of the presentation settings. In the audio section of the presentation settings, I turned it to "on the field" and it seems to have smoothed somethings out some. Give it a try and see if it helps. Also, is it possible that something with the commentary is what is making the game so laggy for PS3?

"No mention regarding the overwhelming online lag, although an improved framerate could contribute to a better experience. It is unlikely though that would be the sole culprit and I wouldn’t expect performance to all of the sudden be adequate."
That sucks.

XBOX has not received anything beyond the PS3 except card series pack 2. Both patches, with any unforseen rejection from Microsoft/Sony is still scheduled for pre-Opening Day. The league pages are up for both consoles.

Because I played the Demo for The Show and absolutely hated it. I enjoyed 2K8, even though the lag was terrible. I was expecting that to be fixed. But since it isn't, I guess there's no baseball for me this year.
What a drag. They definitely conceded the victory to The Show.

i am not trying to demean 2k in any way but since they are slow to react to ps3 problems because they focus more on 360 i have been playing with things and it seems audio is more of a problem then anything, when i changed 2k audio presentation to on field it helped so much you could only see hiccups as compared to seizure like frame problems, i actually had plenty of throws from ss to 1st and 3rd to first that were nice and smooth, and i only had the ticker and ball trail off for game presentation, it works wonders, makes this game very playable believe me

well ronnie you posted twice in this thread so i hope you are reading up on it here you go, you need to mess around with the audio presentation, for some reason changing to on the field makes the game play much more smooth i have stated in other threads but i guess you didnt read, it makes it much more playable and not such a frame rate headache, i only left ball trail and ticker off on visual presentation and this game ran much smoother so i believe it has to do with audio that is slowing the progression of the game

i changed the audio presentation to "on the field" in stead of default, and with the visual presentation i only turned off the ticker, and ball trail, made throws across the diamond much more smooth just a hiccup here and there not bad frame issues, for the most part it ran smooth all game as opposed to chop chop all game on throws from 3b,ss, to first and outfield to infield, with these settings it would only hiccup here and there, if you need more info pm me and i can tell you all you need to know

Ronnie has been compiling notes from each user and sending them to the proper areas. He's also been searching for a workaround the PS3 issue until they identify the issue. The report by pastapadre is not a concrete conclusion. If it were, then Ronnie would have no reason to compile these issues. It may take some time until a solution is found.

I'm wondering if the game is effected by background processes from the PS3. I'm going to try and mess with a few more settings on the XMB aside from what I have posted and see what I can come up with. The game runs like a PC game when you have 50+ processes running in the background, the game will chug and chop all over the place. I'll keep you updated Ronnie. I'm going to give the audio thing a go as well and try some of the audio/presentation sliders.

If you have a PS3 there should be no question in your mind about this, you should be getting The Show. Not only can you do career mode where you create yourself and work your way up to the Majors from spring training to the Minors, but there are NO framerate issues of any kind and the gameplay is all around smoother than the 2K series. Go buy The Show instead, you'll be glad you did. The only reason us 360 owners have 2K8 is bc it's the only baseball game we can buy.

Your absolutely right Tercel, but Ronnie compiling notes doesnt amount to a hill of beans and certainly doesn't equate to a patch coming in the near future. As far as work arounds go.
I don't think people pay 60$ for a product that you have to do a "work around" to get the thing to work, do you?
Do you accept this kind of product quality when you buy a car, or a TV, or A stereo? Of course not, and the same thing applies here. I don't want work arounds, I want results.

I would really want to know why you chose 2k baseball 2 years in a row over the competition. Everyone knows that 2k7 was horrible on the PS3 and the frame rate was only 30fps as opposed to the 60fps on the 360. 2k8 is again another poor effort on the PS3 and the 360 from what I read here on the boards and on Metacritic.
I really want to know why you picked to play these two titles over the obvious alternative which need not be named?

Well I tried different settings in the game. Thought maybe some of the framerates had something to do with the shadows and time of day that the game played. I've noticed it especially in Yankee stadium. Sometimes I would get a really bad game with framerate at a 1pm start, and then the next game would not be so bad. Any luck with anymore your findings Ronnie? I'm still moving around with different combinations of XMB options being turned on and off and stuff in game.

CHECK THIS OUT!! DIRECTLY FROM WIRED MAGAZINE!!!
"EA interactive has been in talks to purchase the company "Take Two Interactive" which is a video game developer. Apparently, the holdup on the purchase is due to the fact that EA wants to gut the company and lay off almost everyone. A move which the current owner, will not allow. An EA company spokesman released this statement when contacted by Wired Magazine "We are currently in talks to purchase Take two Interactive. While there has been some progress in these talks, the rumors that we want to lay everyone at the company off is false. We simply feel that the company could be doing much better with the correct leadership in place. As it is our opinon that they produce some of the best games out there, however, have fallen off in recent years"
WELL WELL.... looks like 2k hired ANOTHER crappy company to do their games. Now, what I want to know, is the whole framerate issue, roster, lag and all the other problems with this game due to the fact that 2k is now left trying to fix Take twos problem?? Are we laying the blame on 2k, when its actually take twos problems? Or maybe even Blue Castle games? Your info ... dont bash... just tell me what you think!

Where do you find these settings?
They are in the XMB when you first start up your PS3. Just go over to the menu Settings and you'll find all the options. You only really notice a slight difference on cutscenes. They seem to be less choppy. As far as gameplay goes, not much of the framerate is fixed. Certain stadiums play better than others, different times of day give you better framerates. I tried it with all of those settings on and off and only noticed slight changes but nothing major. Try it and see what you get.

Ronnie, have you tried playing around with different times of day and the weather to see the effects on framerate during play? I have messed around with a few stadiums at 10am, 1pm, 4pm, and 6pm games. Played each on Clear/Cloudy/Overcast and the framerate appeared to worsen when playing at 1pm, Weather: Clear, Calm. Try this out at Yankee Stadium. I seem to get variable results there. Play a 1pm/Clear/Calm 1 inning game, a 4pm/Clear/Calm and a 6pm/Clear/Calm. Could the game be chugging from the transition of the shadows on field as well as player shadows?? I know shadows/lighting was an issue for the PS3 version last year, possible factor. Possible Anti-Aliasing and Bloom effect issues on the PS3 as well?? Something to look into. I don't think it has anything to do with PS3 settings on the XMB or in game presentation settings at this point.

Most people on a video game forum are serious gamers. I'm only a 1 or 2 time a week player. The Franchise mode is fun and playable on the PS3. I think with the music off the game freezes less when changing players..lineups...ect....If you can fix the frame rate, great...if not I think at least 50% of buyers won't care.

This year's show is last year's show-- same game. I don't play online so the lag doesn't concern me. The freezing issues, however, need to be addressed. It causes way too much frustration.

I HATE it when people say that us PS3 users shouldn't complain about 2K8 cause we have the Show. Guess what, I've played The Show for the past 3 years & I'm tired of it. Its been the same thing year after year! I wanted something new this time so I went with 2K8 & i think we deserve a patch that fixes framerate as much as the 360 owners. So enough of the "Go play the Show instead, its a better game" or "At least you have a choice". No I dont have a choice because I dont want to be forced to play The Show.

You probably would run into the same issues when you play at night because of the shadows/lighting casted onto the fields. This would be from player shadows to stadium lighting in the crowd. Also, the shaodws on players are extremely pixelated, which could possibly be from rendering issues attributing to framerate? When those shadows are removed from the players during the transition from day to night(the 6pm marker), you see a framerate improvement.
So far I have tested this out at the following stadiums: (Choppy=less than 30fps, Smoother=more than 30fps)
Yankee Stadium:
1pm/clear/calm: Choppy framerate
6pm/clear/calm: Smoother framerate
Dodger Stadium:
1pm/clear/calm: Choppy framefrate
6pm/clearm/calm: Smoother framerate
Dolphin Stadium:
1pm/clear/calm: Choppy framerate
6pm/clear/calm: Smoother framerate
Fenway Park:
1pm/clear/calm: Choppy framerate
6pm/clear/calm: Smoother framerate
Kauffman Stadium:
1pm/clear/calm: Choppy Framerate
6pm/clear/calm: Smoother Framerate
Shea Stadium:
1pm/clear/calm: Choppy Framerate
6pm/clear/calm: Smoother Framerate
Tropicana Field:
At default INDOORS setting, playing in this stadium is very smooth aside from minor hitching. No self shadowing going on here aside from the lights casting shadows on the players. You can see how self shadowing/lighting is not really affecting gameplay at Tropicana.
You can clearly see the difference when shadows and heavy lighting is present on the field and on the players. The game seems to be suffering from 1 of 3 issues here.
1. Self Shadowing
2. Bloom effect
3. Anti-Aliasing (lesser of the 3 issues, but could be the cause of the hitching when throwing across field)
I have also tried turning the throwing meter to classic and did not notice a framerate increase, if there was, it is very minor. You also get better framerates at Minor League stadiums. You get increased performance because there is alot less lighting/crowd/shadowing going on as apposed to playing at a MLB stadium.

Metered is when the strength bar shows up on top of the fielder when throwing the ball. Classic is just a button press to the base.

Okay, I was having fun in my franchise and then it seems to be getting choppy again. Realized they were either night games or day games, went and played a 6:00 game and it was great. So now the only problem was that you can't pick game times in franchise mode. Well I kind of found a trick, most of you probably have already figured this out, but here it is anyway.
When you get to the stadium screen, where you can change temp and all but not time hit the circle for a random stadium until the game time changes to 6:00, then you can cycle through the stadiums with r1 and l1 until back to your original home or away stadium and it will still be 6:00.
Ronnie, is there any chance you guys could at least patch this to let people choose the game time in franchise without having to do this?
