I am quite amazed that the developers do not stress the importance of using sliders in this game. I have found that by adjusting the sliders that the game is actually quite good. For example, I noticed that the cpu was throwing almost only strikes. Using the sliders I was able to fix this. The new controls both hitting and pitching are really hard to master. But by tuning the sliders I find that I am able to use both with some effectiveness. I know that there are gamers who believe that the game should be playable out of the box so to speak. I wonder if that is the developers' intent. It could be that The Show developers created a game that is totally playable out of the box. Which is why it is universally praised. So maybe many of the issues that we have with the game are non issues when sliders are adjusted. However, I do agree that releasing the game with frame rate issues is really not something that 2k should have done. It was clear from early release videos that they have known that this is an issue for quite some time.

The sliders are very important because the game is damn near impossible to play with the stock difficulties. I just threw a perfect fastball with Liriano low and a bit outside and somehow Ryan Theriot pulls it for a homerun. Very few people in the league can do that. Ryan Theriot is not one of them. And don't tell me that I need to learn how to pitch better and that I'm throwing meatballs because my profile's ERA is sub 3.00. I know how to pitch. The settings are horrible. If I play on Pro, I'll get 20 something hits but if I go onto All Star, I'll be lucky to squeak out five. With the sliders, the game is much more enjoyable. Unfortunately for me, I enjoy collecting the cards and for some lame reason, you can't collect Wild Cards while playing on a custom difficulty. Sweet!

Yes, indeed. The sliders are extremely important. By adjusting the sliders, I have a realistic experience where the AI throws a good mix of balls and strikes, and I can draw several walks per game.
Now, if only the sliders were numbered like they were in 2K7.....

Man i've been working with the sliders too and i've finally been able to get a more realistic game. i was a pitcher playing baseball for many years and i play the game like i would throw in a game. so i've learned to pitch. what i found was hard was hitting. i've lowered the reaction and speed of the AI for outfield and infielders and what were always gap line drives that were caught are now at least singles. i also adjusted the step influence and very little else on my sliders and i am now 8-10 after starting 2-8 or something like it. my suggestion is to work on those sliders and see if you notice a difference. i'd like to see some slider settings posted on here. though i think in 2k7 the sliders had numbers and were easier to post. just my 2 cents!

I'm glad that sliders are available in the game for people who want to SLIGHTLY adjust the game play, but I also believe that the game developers should have the game preset to settings that reflect the most accurate level of simulation play possible when it comes out of the box.
I should be able to buy the game, open the package, insert the disc into the console, turn on the power and instantly play a game of realistic baseball. There's not another genre of product in the world - that I know of - that can get away with launching itself to the marketplace at a quality that isn't as close to perfect as possible.
