I want to ask you all a question; specifically those that have played baseball their entire life. Just for the record, I never played above t-ball. It wasnt my cup of tee. Basketball was my first love(baseball was second) and it earned me a Div one college scholarship.
But anywho, i'm currently playing both the show, and mlb 2k8 ( I started my season with the yankees.......why?? Because I'm from the bronx. I was curious to find out if the ball physics in this game was 100 percent accurate. specifically with the pitching. I never had the luxury of facing a pitcher with who threw a 99 mph fast ball high and inside on me, but I'm certain it would've been thrilling nonetheless. I want to know if the pitches in this game behave like their real life counter parts....ie curve, slider and fastball. Any feedback would greatly appreciated.

You know, honestly I thought 2k7 had better pitch definition than 2k8 in terms of a curve vs. a fastball vs. a slider, but 2k8 is still good. I play this game on Legendary and I have a very difficult time telling the difference between pitches, whereas in 2k7 I could identify them with higher accuracy. The fastball is pretty real in 2k8 just like real life. You have 1 sec to make up your mind, guess the pitch type and swing. If you're guessing fastball, you have to start your swing a little earlier than if you're guessing curveball, and if you guess wrong, you're toast. If you step too late on the fastball, you'll miss or hit a weak grounder opposite field; if you step too early on the curveball, you lose swing power and will most likely fly out. Having said that, in 2k8 stepping early on a curve appears to be not so detrimental, as I've hit a few homers that way! Rule of thumb is that you're usually looking fastball, and try to hit any other strike, unless you know another type of pitch is coming...

i'd say the pitching physics are pretty damn good. just like max said, u have about a second or so to make up u're mind and guess. which is really realistic. u either wait for a flat pitch coming outta the pitchers hand (which would indicate a fastball, 2 seam or cutter, etc..), or u can look out for a little slope (which could indicate a curve).
i played last years the show and i hate how u can guess pitch type and location b4 the pitch comes and through the wind up the cpu tells u where its going if u guessed it right, even if its outta the strike zone. now how realistic is that crap?
another thing...has anyone looked at the instant replay and seen how the ball really takes its real life spin depending on the pitch? i love seeing the slider and checkin out the side spin. i'd say the pitching definition is pretty damn realistic. some may say too hard, but those are the people that've never played real ball and seen that u have a second or so to look for a location and pitch type.
p.s. i love when the cpu pitchers throws the back door slider to see it creep back over the plate to catch about an inch of it.

I know how to hit in the game...thats not the issue..hell I play on legend (custom sliders).
I know what u mean by being able to recognize the pitches. I was having the same trouble with 2k8. I actually adjusted the batters view to wide or wide zoom. and now i recognize the pitch much better. I was referring to the movements of the pitches.( Does a slider in realife behave like that in the game? .and what do i need to adjust the pitch speed to in order to simulate the speed of those pitches, that accurately capture it

Both games, infact all baseball games represent pitches correctly otherwise you couldn't call a slider a slider or a changeup a changeup.
