Hello, first post. I recently purchased and played MLB 2K8 for the PS2. First baseball game from the 2K franchise that I've owned. Previously I played MVP Baseball and MLB The Show franchises.
Immediately after playing one inning of MLB 2K8, I had some serious gripes with the graphics/visuals. Is it just me, or does anyone else think the baseball bat is WAY too thin. It looks like a whiffle ball bat. The barrel of the bat is way too thin relative to the player and furthermore the barrel consumes about 2/3 of the length of the bat. A real baseball bat has the fat part of the bat starting at the midway point. When I swing the 2K8 bat, I have a difficult time believing this twig of a bat can knock a ball over 400 ft deep.
Secondly, the bat physics is completely unrealistic. The bat swings way too easily--in other words, the bat leaves the shoulder at the same velocity as it goes through the batting zone. It really does look and resemble swinging a whiffle ball bat. In other games, like MVP, the bat FEELS heavier, and not like a hollow piece of plastic.
Third of all, I'm having a hard time with the batter's follow through. Once the batter swings and makes contact, the whole body turns so that the batter's chest is facing the dugout. This is completely unrealistic, if most major leaguers swung this hard they would screw themselves into the dirt at the batters box and be thrown out at first by a mile.
I seriously thought that by 2008 a baseball game released would be miles ahead of it's predecessors. I guess I'll have to go back to playing MVP baseball because MLB 2K8 is way too goofy because of the issues I mentioned above. The programmers need to go back from scratch and rebuild the whole batting experience because it really is pathetic, in my humble opinion.
