Tulsa World-It has been reported that local hero Sammy Claphan has returned to his home state of Oklahome after being an all star in high school and playing 4 years at Georgetown and becoming an assistant coach there for 3 years.
He has been named the Tulsa Golden Hurricane's new head coach after doug wocjik was rmoved of his duties. He inherits a young group of athletic players that will get up and down the court, but Claphan wants to mold them into playing a Georgetown style of great D and perfect precision offense. Claphan has said he wants tochange the atitude of losing and wants to get back to the old days of elite 8's ignited by Dante Swanson, but he knows he will have to take this one day at a time.

tulsa is a good team, they only had 1 or 2 bad years before this year. Hopefully you can get them back to the self and peterson days.

Well it looks like i am in for a challenge but I believe I'm more than ready for that I've met with the team and we decided upon these goals forthe upcoming year
+Winning record in-conference+
+NIT or better+
+BEAT MEMPHIS+
My own personal goals: #1 Bring back a winning atitude to the basketball program #2 make a run at the conference championship(maybe premature but I believe we can finish in the top 4 easily #3 Build my project Jerome Jordan into a beast 7'0 soph. I did it with Hibbert I fully believe Jordan is capable of doing so
STARTERS[B]
PG-Brett Mcdade 6'0 SR 72 overall My comment-For our team to be successful this year Mcdade is going to have to have to be a senior leader for us.
SG-Rod Earls 6'2 SR 78 overall My comment-He is our sharpshooter he may be the one to step up and be our go to guy when the game is on the line.
SF-Ben Uzoh 6'3 SO 72 overall My comment-NBA talent if he gets in the gym and works on his skills he could be one of the best in Tulsa hoops history.
PF-Calvin Walls 6'7 SR 64 overall My comment-Undersized big man does the dirty work He needs to play bigger than what he is, which I know he can do.
C-Jerome Jordan 7'0 SO 61 overall My comment- The Futureof our teamif he works as hard as he can and maxes out his potential in a few years he will be our horse we ride to the big time.
[B]BENCH
SF-Ray Reese 6'5 JR 66 overall
PG-Mark Hill 5'10 SO 65 overall
PF-Steven Idlet 6'9 FR 61 overall
SG-Glen Andrews 6'3 SO 61 overall
SG-Justin Hurtt 6'4 FR 60 overall
C- Sam Mitchell 6'9 JR 59 overall
PF- Bishop Wheatley 6'6 SO 56 Overall
My comment- I believe this a bench that can step up every night for us and give us 15 to 30 points if needed.I really like when our starters need a breather I can be comfortable with putting in anyone off the bench.

Good luck in the season. And I'll be rooting for you in the game against Memphis lol. I'll probably end up getting in the NIT this season, and that's about as high as I'll probably get. I'll definitely be following.

Wow beat Memphis is a tough one, but the other two shouldn't be too bad. I have a legacy going with Marshall using 2k7, not 2k8, but I think I have a good chance to make it to the NIT the way things are going now. The good thing is that besides Memphis the rest of the conference isn't that strong and is pretty equal. Sure Houston is usually decent but they can be beat.

1st game Tulsa 91 Hampton 64
They always say the first win is the toughest, I'm glad I got it out of the way early. We came out of the gates strong up14-2 a couple minutes into the game and never looked back I thought our defense was pitiful and if it wasnt for Hampton's 1-2-1-1 press which we broke easily and for some reason they did it the entire game. other than the fast break, our offense in the half court was not very good. I knew we were better than them and now we are in the finals of the classic at host maryland. I don't feel we will stay in the game if we play like this, but a win is a win. Jerome Jordan played spectacular for us tonight you can tell he has really worked on his game 12pts 6-9 fg 11 boards and 3 blocks.
Points-Rod Earls 19 7-10 fg 5-8 3pt
Rebounds-Jerome Jordan 11
assists-Rod Earls 5

Tulsa 66 vs. North Florida 64
wow we left at around halftime last nite maryland up by 19 and when we get back to the hotel we find out North Florida just upset them by 1, so now in the bracket c championship we played North Fla. It started out like I thought it would they didnt press, therefore our offense was stagnet we couldn't hit shots. around 5 min left in the first half we were down 12 then we finally start working the ball around and getting open looks. Go in at half down 33-28 To start the second half they go on a huge 13-0 run to take a 46-28 lead. This is when our C Jerome Jordan became a man he grabbed wvery rebound posted up and scored 10 straight points for us! trimmed the lead to 7 and nip and tuck the rest of the game to the point where we are tied 64-64 with 14 seconds left we gave the ball to Jordan and he throws up a prayer floater..........SWISH at thebuzzer we win 66-64. We are on to the Semi-Finals of the classic. I was really proud of how the team played fierce man defense the last 8 minutes of the game. We won our first tournament as a team tonight and that's what coaching is all about I'm going to give them a day off then it is back in the gym to get ready for Arkansas State.

Tulsa 71 vs. Arkansas State 82
Well our first home game did not go as planned as we lost to the Indians of Arkansas State. There is nothing that you can do really during games like this. I thought we were playing excellent defense but they just hit contested shot after contested shot they were on fire shooting 79% in the first half 8-8 from 3 and we shot 36% down 50-22 at the break. We made a run in the second half to close to within 5, but they made a couple baskets to push it out to 9 and all of our energy was gone. A bright spot for us is Jerome Jordan continues to improve and we are finally learning to run the flex. Rod Earls has got to step up 3-18 from 3 the last 2 games that is not going to get it done. R. Wedel killed us 21 pts. 8 ast.
ScheduleWe found out that our opponent in the oreiley bracket champion semifinals will be 6-0 #2ranked UCLA thay are our next opponent
