What is the best way to steal bases? I have yet to steal a base in this game, (I'm using SFGiantsPab 's sliders), even on the worst of throws from the worst of catchers. So,

How many steps should I lead off from first?
and
Should I make slider adjustments to the sliders?

who are you trying to steal with, make sure he's good, and take 2-3 steps if possible, then send him.

Depends on runner I have been safe on no steps and thrown out on 2 steps!

Rule of thumb take 1 and then when the pitcher gets ready to almost let go of the ball take another.

Also I use the hit Y 2 times Button Click method which has your baserunner take off sooner then just 1 Y Button Click it's in the manual about the Double Clicking Y Button!

Yeah, if you tap Y twice, he'll start to run on the first movement of the pitcher. The disadvantage is that if the pitcher is going to throw a pick-off, your baserunner be already running rather than going back to the base.

This rarley happens and most of the time he just dives back.

I use the Giants and don't adjust base stealing sliders.

Check the pitchers Pickoff rating. C is bad, A is good. If it's C you can safely take 2 steps every time. B you can still take two steps in Pro mode. I just started All Star, so I don't know yet about that.

Check the catcher's throwing and accuracy. C is bad, A is good again. If throwing and accuracy are C, you're in great shape.

Obviously, check your runners base stealing. A+ for Roberts is a no brainer. B works with Wynn most of the time as well. On Pro I've only been caught twice in about 30 steals with Roberts. Once at 3rd, once at 2nd. 3rd is a bit tougher to steal as it's a shorter throw for the catcher. Wynn rarely gets caught if the pitcher and catcher are a C.

If you running on a fast ball up or even mid-low makes it much tougher. If you can run on a curve you can steal with even slower runners. Think about the count and when you'll see a curve or change if you need it. If it's Roberts and the pitcher and catcher are a C, don't worry. You'll probably walk in to 2nd and get a high/wide throw from the catcher.

Lastly, you can double click the Y button (360) to steal on the pitcher's 1st move to get an even better jump. That's risky, because if they make a pickoff move, you'll get hung up. Use wisely, but it will give you a big edge if you need it.

That's it. Stealing bases is pretty easy in the right situation. Roberts is leading the league after 30 games in my franchise.

I think knowing what a pitcher will throw in a given count is much more valuable than knowing the catcher's throwing strength. While knowing that helps out a good deal, not saying that it doesn't, if you know the pitcher is going to be throwing a fastball, it's best not to go on that pitch. I never go on the first pitch because a lot of the time first pitch will be fastball. 2-0 and 3-0 are also generally fastball counts. Be sure to dance over at the base too because it'll draw a lot of throws over. The more throws they make, the more likely it is they'll airmail one and give you a base standing.

After reading this thread I've started to use the double tap Y feature. I got caught when the pitcher used a well timed pickoff move. My runner already took off for 2nd base as the pitcher made a pickoff attempt to 1st base. Fortunately my runner was safe at 2nd base on the play as he just barely beat the throw from the 1st baseman.

I just use the pre-load for stealing. LS and Y.

I have auto-dive back on. No problems with Rollins stealing :)
