Why wasn't this pitch interpreted as a slider? Clearly the pitch gesture is closer to a slider than a curveball. This happens ALOT and is quite annoying.

Because you went beyond the stopping point for a slider. In real life, a pitcher turns his hand over to throw the curve. On a slider he stops his hand 1/2 way. Imagine you are holding at 4 seam fastball, as you hold the ball, your fingers are facing the catcher, now as you throw it, turn your hand to the right to see the side of the ball (for RHP), that is where you stop the throwing action for a slider. If you go beyond just turning your hand to see the side of the ball, you role your hand over, and the slider becomes a curve. Make sense? It does for the video game too. Go to far, and you aren't throwing a slider. Stop the gesture on the 3 (as if it were a clock), and you have a slider, go to the 2, and you have a curve.

You went too far, that's why
While you're opening move was most sliderish, your ending move was most curveish
My following measurements are all based on the unit circle
A curveball is straight down to 225, then counter clockwise to 45
A slider is straight over to 180, then counter clockwise to 0
YOU did a straight over to 180, then counter clockwise to 45
No matter what, your gesture would have been low for both. It just chose to register it as a curveball rather than a cruddy slider
I've done this before tons of times with different pitches. After awhile you just get used to it- no glitch or mistake, just imperfect use of the right stick. I'll agree it graded you pretty low for a mistake that wasn't HUGE, but you were still off, and the pitching system did it's job

I think you may have followed through too much with the arrow going upwards. Try not going past the "3 o'clock" position before letting go. If not I don't know because you started the motion where you should've.
I think that 2k should include next year a button that picks the pitch you intend to throw, and then based on how well you execute the motion of the pitch determines where it ends up or if it is a meatball, etc etc.
Lets be honest, any professional baseball player when attempting to throw a curve ball, wouldn't accidentally throw a slider, or when trying to throw a two seam fastball, wouldn't accidentally throw a 4 seam fastball.
Also, if you were a pitcher attempting to throw a change up or curve ball or knuckleball and you didn't execute it correctly, you wouldn't throw a 88 mph fastball/meatball. You would just throw a curve that didn't break or a knuckle that didn't move.

I like that idea

He might if he were on steriods. All that goes through the empty-headed mind of a player on steriods is, "Duh, duh, duh... I kill you, you stupid!" You never watched Clemens toss that broken bat at Piazza in the 2000 WS?
