View Full Version : Why is it not called the World Series or the ALCS/NLCS?

The title pretty much explains it all, but why in the world in Franchise is it not called The World Series, American League Championship Series, National Leage Championship Series or The Division Series?

I noticed that too when I first played it. It's so stupid that they did this, because it's not the NBA. It's the World Series, not the Finals. But I have no idea why this was done, since there is no reasonable excuse to the mistake.

It's because the makers on this game aren't real baseball fans (nor do they take the time to research) and they repeatedly show it with little things like that.

Might it have something to do with licensing or rights? I don't know what licensing/rights might be assigned to the ALCS, NLCS or WS... but maybe 2k couldn't get them? Kinda like the Super Bowl... how it's trademarked and all and you hear people on the news calling it "the big game" or something lame like that.

I havent run into this yet as I am in the middle of my 162 game series. Didnt know htis existed though. Its definitely not a licensing thing though. The World Series and the Championships are part of the league and all content that falls under that umbrella. At least that would be my assumption. Very strange though.

These things are what you call details. Details are not the strength of this game obviously. It was thrown together and rushed out the door with little to no polishing. I wish the naming of the post season series was the biggest detail missed though.

No way...2K owns the MLB rights when it comes to baseball. Simply poor development.

I doubt it's licensing problems since The Show has the NLDS/ALDS/NLCS/ALCS/WS/

Okay, up until this point, I was pretty content just reading on these forms and what not, but this post/glitch really doesn’t sit well with me.
I have MLB2k8 and I will defend it as much as anybody...but you got to be kidding me. It doesn't even have the titles: World Series/NLCS/ALCS? There is no way this can be a licensing error, baseball games have these titles included. Sounds like one giant oversight and, sadly, it isn’t the only one in this game. I really like MLB2k8 but it’s getting harder to stay positive about it when new glitches/omissions keep showing up each day. Frankly, this game is starting to feel half done. Maybe 2k should only charge 29.99 for it.
I should point out (at the off-chance that someone from 2k actually browses the forms for feedback) the difference between a good company and a great company (especially in relation to video games) is that any good company might make mistakes, but then pretend they don’t exist. While a great company might make mistakes, figure out what they are, and then take action to correct them. It sounds like MLB2k8 could use several patches.
It’s not too late, come on 2k, show you care and start correcting your mistakes.

But that’s just my two cents.

Sorry people, but I just simmed a season and got into the WS, and Jeanne definitely said "World Series" when introducing the 1st game.

Non-issue...

Just tried it again. My team got into the NLDS, and Jeanne introduced the game by saying, "Welcome to the National League divisional series."

Got to the NLCS. Jeanne: "Hi everyone, welcome to the NLCS series!"

Should I proceed the the WS, or is there even a point to this thread any longer?

WS game - Jeanne: "Welcome, as we countdown to the first pitch of the World Series..."

This thread is officially TOAST.

Yeah, keep going, it's fun to watch the original naysayers eat crow! ;)

Say, maybe we can salvage this thread by turning it into a "Hey, why do they keep calling the playoff series by their CORRECT NAMES???" thread.

I mean, anything topic will do if the idea is to simply complain, even if it makes no sense whatsoever.

it is amazing, people are looking for anything to bash this game.

I can't figure out what the issue is supposed to be. Weird stuff.

Actually this post started because when you go to the bracket it says Quarter Finals, Semi Finals and Finals. It never says World Series, Division Series, American League Championship Series or National League Championship series. I am sorry I have wasted all of your time. I have the broadcasters audio turned off so I never heard Jeanne say anything, I am sorry and I have made a mistake. Do I think it should say World Series, ALCS, etc in the bracket, well yes I do, because baseball does not use these terms like other sports. I also was not bashing the game I was asking a question in case there was a reason, sometimes I like to be educated on things I do not know. Now I am educated on the fact that Jeanne says World Series, Division Series, etc and I thank you guys for that.

Oh, okay. Kush probably did that to make it easy to understand for the kids who play the game.

I wouldn't know since i could not enter the playoffs due to that wacky schedule bug. Lucky for me Madden 08 came out about then and i forgot all about 2k7 and then was so excited...i had a new game to wait to get patched. :)

For me i'd just be happy if the post season worked.

I have them turned down too, but Jeanne and Steve still talk before every game. So how could you not hear her?

That's almost impossible, since TakeTwo bought the licensing rights from Major League Baseball, and Major League Baseball Players Association. I assume MLB owns the trademark rights to their own final championship. It's just little things I suppose that the developers overlooked.

Doesn't matter really, doesn't take away from game play, it's just a bit odd. Anyone else really missing the MLB MVP series right about now?

Did you not read the entire thread? Nothing was 'overlooked'. IT'S IN THE GAME. The OP made a mistake, and then admitted it.
