If your pitcher pitches the last three innings of a game and holds the lead, you get a save. This is true in real life.

It was probably 3, that is a save

another way to get a save in this case is if the game was within a few runs when this particular pitcher entered the game. Example lets say I am winning by 2 and I bring in Marmol to pitch and get out of the inning without surrendering the lead, but in the bottom half I get 3 runs and decide to just leave Marmol in then he would get a save since he entered the game in a close game. the 3 inning thing is legit in the pros today, but I am not sure it is on this game however. I have had pitchers come in and finish games with 3 or more innings and up by 5 or more runs but have failed to record a save in this sense.

In a real game you'll also get credit for a save if the tying run is at the plate or on deck. So if you were up by 5 runs and the bases were loaded you would get credit for a save as the tying run would be on deck.

But you would have to bring in a new reliever, you don't get credit for it if the same guy is responsible for loading the bases. I know last year's game didn't have the 3 inning save because last year was when I learned about it and went ahead and tried it. It could be in this year's game though now that they emphasize holds. Guess someone will have to try it to confirm.

The 3 inning save is in the game

Well like I said I have had a pitcher pitch 3 innings while leading by 4 or more and have not recorded a save with that relief pitcher. I know it is in the game cuz I have simulated a game and seen a guy get a save while pitching 3 innings. Just have not accompished it myself while playing.
