okay here it is. The dunk contest would be this each round you make the dunk before you dunk the ball, and it can be anything you want and then it would be a meter similar to free throw shooting or something like that.
Here is the format for creating a dunk.

you would have a green man and a half court where you would start off with these:
Pass/ No Pass-the man can go up holding the ball or receive a pass from himself or a teammate, it can either be a bounce pass, off the backboard or a lob. Here is the format:

Pass/No Pass

No Pass

Self Pass
Off the backboard
Bounce alley-oop
throw behind the back
Bounce into a backboard

Teammate Pass

Bounce pass( this can be any distance away from the rim)
Lob
Off the backboard

Angle/ Position on the court
This would be similar to an instant replay or custom camera view where you can start the dunk from anywhere on the court.

Turn or No turn
Here you dictate when, where, and how much your player turns, you can have no turn, a 90 degree turn, 180, 360, or a 540 (doubt anyone can execute that).

Ball movement
Here it would dictate where the ball would move from.
Behind the back( from left to right or right to left)
Between the legs( from right to left or left to right)
From hand to hand(from right to left or left to right)

Arm movement
You can dictate where the are placement would be for both arms at any angle you want, you can time when you want the movement to begin and stop or if you want it to stay a posre or not. this will help you create the following if you want:
Windmills
Pumps
Besides these you can put your arms anywhere you want

Dunking Hands
Here you can decide which hand you want to dunk with:
Right
Left
Both

Foot and Leg placement
Just like the arms you can dictate the leg movement and angles when you dunk. you can time when you want the movement to begin and stop or if you want it to stay a posre or not.

Jump
Either depending on the type of dunker you are or the dunk you can execute you can jump off of one or two feet:
Left
Right
Both

Dunking Props
Here is the thinks you can use for dunking:
Teammate(s)-Here you can dunk over a teammate or a couple of teammates.
Object- here you can dunk over an object like a chair, an announce table, a mascot.
Two balls-Here you can dunk with two balls
blindfold(s)
Backboard/ Rim- Here you can grab the rim with one hand and dunk with the other. You can touch the ball with the backboard before you dunk it while in the air, or you can have the ball lodged between the rim and backboard and jump and pick it off and execute the dunk.

Now for this part should not be as long as the shootout create a dunk was or it should at least be more presentable and give you more control such as at what point in the air you start executing the move, what point do you stop if you do, how you should jump, and etc.

Now for the execution part. There would be three intersecting meters that go up and down, one horizontal _, one vertical |, and one diagonal \. the horizontal would be the dunking accuracy the closer it is to the center the more likely the dunk will go in. The vertical meter flair, the closer the ball is to the center the more likely the dunk has just the right vertical, if it is farther away from the midpoint either higher or lower the vertical would be high for high and low for lower. The diagonal would measure would be move accuracy, the closer it is to the center the more likely the move would be executed before you put the ball through the basket. The meter would go fast depending on the player's athleticism. If it is not as high the meter would go super fast, if the athleticism is good it would go fast, and if the athleticism is high for dunking it would go at a medium fast pace. This would be done before the dunk is executed and then you run to the rim and press the shoot button, you press it again once your hand is near the rim to follow through for the dunk.

Creativity would be measured like this the game would have a memory of every dunk you, another user, or the cpu has executed, if the dunk has been done before then you will not get as high as a rating. This would also have all the dunks from the real dunk contests as well.

If anyone has any questions or don't understand this let me know. What does everyone think of this idea?

While I think your idea is pretty ****** cool...

Don't you think this is a little much for a mini-game to represent an event that involves all of 4 players a year ?

Another problem would be that the dunk animations are currently either motion captured or hand edited as a single canned animation. I'm afraid if you allow players to tweak all the various aspects of the animation it's just going to get all messy -- like it's hard for them to implement the dunking system and still get the guy to dunk naturally.

In the end, the biggest limitation of the format you mention, is it's hard to capture the creativity and imagination of the real dunk contest. Regardless how many options you give the player, in the end you're still limited to those certain dunks without allowing people to get all crazy with stuff no one's ever seen (which is what REALLY wins the dunk contest).

For instance, you can't really accomodate Vince Carter's hanging dunk or say Dee Brown's 'blind' dunk or Cedric Ceballos' blindfold dunk or even Jason Richardson's description-defying dunk from last year.

The format I suggested gives you enough freedom to create almost any dunk the dunks that can't be are either impossible to do because you need a tramp like slamball to do them or that you need to be able to literally fly to be able to do them and I want to keep it pretty realistic I don't want to put a guy jumping over the backboard and dunking, although it would look cool, it's not realistic.

Sega can also make this a mode in of itself along with putting it in franchise mode. Also offer this mode online. Sega would reap a ridiculous amount of money. Show a commercial saying that they have full All-Star weekend you can choose to do each event in franchise mode and it would also be a mode in of itself and it would also be online too.

this is aight, but the animations wouldn't look too nice cuz all that leg position and arm position, you wouldn't really control it that much. But its good.
