Before I begin I just wanted to give you all a little FYI. I would like to apologize in advance that I will only be updating this with maybe 1 or 2 games a day. The reason for this is I am currently in Iraq working 12 hour days everyday which usually turn into 15 hour days, so I only have time to play about 2 games before I need to sleep.

Anyway, hope everyone enjoys!

Not the End of an Era After All

Come back Self.

Jayhawk fans across the nation have been saying that since the day the heard about head coach Bill Self getting the $3.5 million (plus $6 million bonus) offer from his alma mater, Oklahoma State. The question has been lingering in everyone's mind: is it worth it?

Sure, that's a lot of money, but money can't replace what Self has experienced with Kansas. After winning Kansas a national championship game for the first time in 20 years and defeating the last coach that left them for an alma mater (Roy Williams), Bill Self is somewhat of a heroic icon around Lawrence, KS.

But the real question is, does Self think it's worth it?

In a press conference earlier today Self had this to say:
"The past few months have been a rollercoaster for me having to come down to the big decision of continuing my career at Kansas, or starting fresh at Oklahoma State. I've had many sleepless nights going over the pros and cons in my mind. I know most of you have thought there is no way I could turn down the amount of money offered to me. Honestly, who would turn down an opportunity to coach at their alma mater? Especially with all that money on the line.

The answer is right here in front of you. I've decided to continue coaching Kansas basketball, no amount of money to me can replace what I have here. I know most of you thought that losing a lot of my team to the draft might have swayed me to pack up and head to Oklahoma, but I have faith in our team this upcoming season. We've got a few freshmen that show real promise.

I appreciate the offer OSU gave to me, but I can't leave. What I have here is irreplacable, and as I said before... no amount of money can change that."

MY GAME RECAP
Things started off slow for this new Jayhawk line-up. We were getting beat down the court, turning the ball over, and missing easy baskets in the earlier minutes of the game. Team chemistry seemed non-existent until almost the end of the first half. We put on a full court press and it worked wonders. The Tigers started throwing crazy passes and turning the ball over. Darrell Arthur led the charge and gained some momentum for us and then almost everyone started contributing. The second half we just kept running and gunning. The Tigers came at us with all they had but it still wasn't enough to catch up. This team definitely relies on its big men (Arthur, Aldrich, and Owens). Two freshmen really stood out this game, Jim Pierce and Keion Owens. Watch out for them in the future, I see them becoming a powerful force to reckon with.

1 to 2 games a day is good enough! Most of us don't get in much more than that, anyways. I usually try to get 1 or 2 games a day done during the week, though I get more like 3 or 4 a day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Good luck and thank you for your service in Iraq!!!

You're welcome superjames

Weird how I just did a little imitation press conference with Bill Self stating he'd be coming back to Kansas, and I look on ESPN just now and see an article titled "Self tells Oklahoma State that's he's happy with Kansas, doesn't want to leave". :D

#15 KANSAS VS EVANSVILLE

FINAL SCORE:
Kansas - 84
Evansville - 72

PLAYER OF THE GAME
Darrell Arthur - 20 pts, 5 rebs, 2 stls

KEY CONTRIBUTORS
Sherron Collins - 10 pts, 8 asts, 3 stls
Keion Owens - 9 pts, 4 rebs, 2 blks
Jim Pierce - 8 pts, 3 rebs, 2 stls

Jason Holsinger - 16 pts, 2 rebs, 8 asts
Nate Garner - 11 pts, 2 rebs, 2 asts, 2 stls
Clint Hopf - 12 pts, 11 rebs, 2 asts

GAME RECAP
We played the first half of this game really well. Our offense was seemingly unstoppable as well as our defense. The Aces were held to a low 12 points for the first 8 minutes of the game (I play 14 minute halves). Arthur, despite having a tough match-up against Evansville's forward Clint Hopf, managed to put up a nice amount of points. Clint Hopf was on a mission tonight, grabbing more rebounds than Owens and Arthur combined.

The second half was a complete disaster. It was almost like we just stopped playing basketball altogether. We got very, very lazy and started throwing bad passes, missing easy buckets, didn't fight for position down low, and a number of other careless mistakes. Arthur and Teahan were the only ones on point the entire second half. Cole Aldrich had a horrible game, needless to say Hopf dominated him down low. Most of our points in the second half came off of fast breaks. I'm disappointed in our performance during the second half even though we came out with a win.

Kansas advances to the next round to face a very tough #9 Louisville

#15 KANSAS VS #9 LOUISVILLE

FINAL SCORE:
Kansas - 84
Louisville- 98

PLAYER OF THE GAME
Terrence Williams - 24 pts, 7 rebs, 5 asts

KEY CONTRIBUTORS
Tyrel Reed - 16 pts, 3 rebs, 3 asts
Jim Pierce - 15 pts, 6 rebs, 4 asts
Keion Owens - 12 pts, 7 rebs, 2 asts

Edgar Sosa - 22 pts, 11 asts, 2 stls
Jerry Smith - 21 pts, 3 rebs, 2 asts
Derrick Caracter - 18 pts, 4 rebs, 3 stls

GAME RECAP
Out-played would be an understatement. I don't know where the Jayhawks I've played the past 2 games with were this game. The pressure of this game obviously got to them because before the second half everyone started to fall apart. Cardinals forwards Williams and Caracter completely shut down both Arthur and Aldrich. Looking at Arthur's stats this game it looks like he played maybe 3 minute the whole game, but he actually played for a good amount of it.

From the beginning Louisville played stellar offense and defense. I was impressed with how well they played, I honestly expected this game to be really close. But between the poor overall play of the Jayhawks and the outstanding performance of Louisville, it was not close at all. The Cardinals led by as many as 26 at one point in the game. They kept the lead near 20 for most of the second half until Kansas put on a 3/4 court trap. This allowed the Jayhawks to cut the lead to only 10 points. Unfortunately that was the closest they could ever get to catching up.

The only thing that I saw good come out of this game was that while Louisville dominated Arthur and Aldrich, we had our two freshmen Pierce and Owens step up and fill in the gaps. They played hard and put up a decent amount of points and rebounds between the two. But their relentlessness wouldn't be enough to get us the win this game.

A tough loss to a tough team.

Kansas drops in the media poll to #22

Tough loss man, Louisville is a good team though. I only have to play them once this year but of course that game is right after I play Georgetown so I will probably lose to them too. That is pretty weird tho that you have scored 84 three times

i beat Louisville in my Long Island legacy in the 2nd round of the NCAA tourney. They are good i just had 2 7 footers that cannot be stopped. and now in my 3rd season, i got a 3rd so i can start 2 of em now and have one come in when one is tired. 7 footers are monsters on this game
