Greenberg Announces 2007-08 Men's Basketball Schedule
RADFORD, Va. – Radford University men’s basketball coach Brad Greenberg announced the Highlanders 2007-08 schedule Tuesday. Highlighted by a trip to face Final Four participant Georgetown, a home game versus West Virginia and trips to Michigan, Air Force and South Carolina, it also features a Homecoming doubleheader in February.
"The very best way for a team to improve is to continually test its limits,” Greenberg said. “Non-conference games against Georgetown, Michigan, South Carolina, West Virginia and Air Force will be significant tests and a great way for our team to grow prior to Big South play.”
The Highlanders open the season with a pair of games in Michigan. RU will play at the University of Michigan to tip-off the season on Nov. 9. Two days later, Radford faces Eastern Michigan before returning to the Dedmon Center to open the home docket.
The Highlanders will play a total of 13 home games this season, six of which are Saturday games. RU opens the home schedule versus future Big South member Presbyterian on Nov. 14, marking the earliest regular season game ever played at the Dedmon Center. The most notable home game comes on Dec. 19 when West Virginia becomes the first Big East team to play at RU.
Radford will play at Air Force during the week of Thanksgiving for the second straight year. The game at Georgetown, which will be played at their on-campus facility, McDonough Arena, follows final exams on Dec. 15, and then two days later the Highlanders play at in-state rival James Madison (Dec. 17). Those two games are part of a regional three games in five days stretch for RU that concludes with the WVU game.
“We will continue to try and schedule in state opponents and our game at JMU will be returned to Radford next season,” Greenberg said. “We have 13 home games and hope to draw enthusiastic fans to the Dedmon Center from the Radford student body, the City of Radford, the New River Valley and Roanoke Valley in support of our team."
After the holidays, Radford resumes play Jan. 2 at South Carolina, RU’s final road tune-up before the start of Big South Conference play. The Highlanders kick off the Big South Conference slate with their annual beach trip, playing Coastal Carolina on Jan. 12 and Charleston Southern on Jan. 14. RU’s first home Big South game is against Winthrop on Jan. 19.
The men’s basketball team hosts arch-rival Liberty on Feb. 2 in Radford’s first winter Homecoming. The game is part of a doubleheader with the women’s basketball team. RU closes out its home regular season schedule with UNC Asheville (Feb. 20) and VMI (Feb. 23). The Highlanders finish the regular season on the road, playing at High Point on Feb. 27 and at Liberty on Mar. 1.
The Big South Conference Championship will again be played at the home sites of the highest seed throughout the tournament. The single-elimination championship, which will be played Mar. 4-8, will determine the League’s representative in the NCAA Tournament.
