Well, here's what I'm using when I write about my Edmonton Oilers franchise in the Season/Franchise Stories forum:

General

Skill Level: Pro -- I can't score on All Star, and either can the CPU. I want to have fun playing, not be frustrated with unrealistic stats.

Game Speed: 1 -- Zero seems to slow, and 2 seems too fast. So I set it to 1. Also, the right speed burst settings help.

Period Length: 6 -- I'm still trying to figure out a way to have a 10 minute game with a realistic amount of shots. It's just not happening for me. I'm always shooting 60+ shots on 10 minutes.

Penalties: 4 -- 5 clicks seemed like too much, but 4 seemed JUST right. But you can change it to 4 or 5.

Fighting: 5 -- Don't have too many, but not too little. The fights stink anywhere.

Puck Friction: 5 -- Seems alright to me.

Ice Friction: 8 -- It's good.

Freeze Puck Time: 0 -- Still it seems there is too much time for the goalie to be able to put the puck back in play....

Glass Breaking Frequency: 10 -- I only saw it break once, so lower this if it breaks too often or if you are on PS2 and don't like seeing the broken glass be there all game.

Pinning: On -- Why not?
Offsides: On
Two-Line Pass: NHL
Icing: NHL

Advanced

Home/Away Strategy: Manual -- Just in case...

Home/Away Line Change: Semi-Auto -- I was having lots of trouble getting my players to switch fast enough, which resulted in a lot of odd man rushes for the CPU. So I switched it to Semi-Auto, which lets me switch up the lines sometimes, but also does it automatically. Works for me.

Referee Collision: Players ONLY! -- I hate when you are having a nice breakout and the dumb ref comes out and messes it up.

Overtime Type: 5 minutes, 4 on 4 -- I going for a simulation feel.

Game Clock: Accelerated -- Real time for 6 minutes? Cut me a break!

Clock Type: NHL -- Put it to Auto if you like, but I never play Tournaments so it doesn't matter to me.

Gameplay(the good stuff)
*The first number is the Human amount of clicks, the second number is the CPU amount of clicks

Goalie Skill: 0/0 -- I'm getting GREAT scores. 3-1 and stuff like that.

Defense Skill: 5/9 -- This vary of course, because I'm always getting better. If you shoot too much, change the defense skill of the CPU to 10, and lower yours, because they probably aren't shooting enough on you!

Offense Skill: 4/8 -- And I'm scoring perfectly fine. I noticed a big jump from 8 to 10 for the CPU offense skill, so beware!

Speed Burst Effect: 3/3 -- Not too much effect, but maybe this IS too much. It could change in the future.

Speed Burst Time: 3/3 -- Does this mean 3 seconds? Or does 3 just mean a random number? Someone tell me please.

Speed Burst Recovery: 3/3 -- Does this mean that after 3 seconds your speed burst will be recovered fully? Because then I'd have to turn this up. Someone tell me please again.

Fatigue Effect: 8/8 -- Trying to get my 4th line out there, might have to change this to 10/10.

Fatigue Time: 8/8 -- Just like the speed burst time, does this mean that after 8 seconds your guy will be fatigue a little bit more?

Fatigue Recovery: 8/8 -- Just like speed burst recovery, does this mean that after 8 seconds your guy will be fully unfatigued?

Hitting Power: 1/2 -- I try not to hit too much, but I want the CPU to hit more so it evens it out. This works really well. I was actually outhit like 21-14 by the Pens. I was the Flyers.

Shot Accuracy: 5/5 -- The default settings seems alright to me.

Pass Accuracy: 5/5 -- I hate it when my pass goes stray even though I aimed it perfectly. But this is doing the job for me.(See Pass Aim Assist under Controls)

Pass Speed: 5/5 -- Keep it default works good.

Pass Interceptions: 5/5 -- Realistic amount.

Rebounds: 5/5 -- Notice a trend? 5/5, 5/5, 5/5, 5/5.

Shot Blocking: 5/5 -- Not too much, but just right.

Puck Retention: 5/5 -- Works fine.

Puck Control: 5/5 -- Still works good.

Control

Controller: Advanced -- Is there any other way?
Goalie Control: Manual -- So I can bring him out to play the puck on Powerplays or just regular plays. Try dumping it off the boards.....works pretty well.

Pass Aim Assist: 10 -- Like I said before, I can't stand when I aim my pass perfectly and it doesn't go to the target.

Shot Aim: Manual -- Thank god they fixed this. Although you still can't put it up instantly, you can roof it, and after a year of not seeing roofed shots, this warms my heart.

Auto Puck In Air Grab: Off -- Pengman18 said if you turn this off and hit the "grab puck" button you would do something. I don't know what it does, but I can't seem to do it. But just in case....

Player Lock: Unlocked -- Unless you want to get really realistic, then keep this here.

Player Start Positon: Center -- Unless you are focused on being a goalie, keep this here.

Puck Protect: Manual -- I don't use the puck protection button that much. I really see no use for it, since I can't move and protect the puck.

Vibration: Off -- It's not that great anyway

1-time passing: On -- I don't know how to execute these right. I know you hit A, then A again, but it doesn't work for me. It's a shame because I was really looking forward to these feature....

Presentation

Menu Music: 30 -- I like the tunes, but in the morning this game seems really loud.

Menu Sound Effects: 30 -- with all these clicking going on I can't think straight.

Commentator: 35 -- I like Gary and Bill, but I like to hear the crowd better.

Announcer: 25 -- I think he sounds like a mouse. This guy needs to be fired. Put in someone with a deeper voice.

Crowd Volume: 40(MAX) -- I still think the crowd isn't loud enough..

Chants Volume: 40(MAX) -- Same thing goes for these. The chants or pretty badly done too. It sounds like 3 or 4 people were chanting them.

Arena Music: 30 -- We WON'T Rock You! The music is alright though.

Arena Sound Effects: 25 -- I want to hear that crowd more!!

Arena Horn Volume: 40(MAX) -- It's still not loud enough or long enough. Plus, when they go into a cut scene or action replay the horn is less noisy...

Player Type Indicators: OFF -- These things are so retarded. I don't even know what they are. There is a little cross-hair thing, but besides that I don't know anything else.

Puck Shadow/Halo: On -- I can't even see where the puck is without it. I should've known this.

Cut Scenes: OFF -- These things are soooo annoying. The goal celebrations only have 2 or 3 at the most players in them. There should be all 5 players. Also, they are just overall cheesy.

Action Replays: On -- I still need to know what happened in that last save Bill!!

I hope you try these out. I would love to see more sliders posted too!!!

Thanx, slickdtc!
I just tried them.
Good! I like it. :D

I play with Senators, but I didn't have many hits(12).
So I reverse the HittingPowerof H/C 2/1.

I play just Center as you wrote and I feel really like I've become one of my Senators.
Wow!

And feel free to adjust anything else. Usually minor tweaks to preset sliders are really good.....you get a direction to get your game to play, then throw in some of your own tastes. It worked perfectly for me in NHL 2k3.

Slick,

I tried your settings and I really like them. I am playing as the kings. Although, I think I need to either raise the cpu defense skill or maybe the cpu goalie skill. I am currently 5-0 The last game I beat Ottawa 7-0. Otherwise my other games have been lower scoring, but I have yet to lose. Hell, its the kings. They aren't that good. What do you think I should adjust? Thanks for your efforts and any thoughts.

Well, I'm extremely happy that people are trying out my sliders. :D

Anyway, here's what you might want to do:

Raise teh CPU Defense
Raise the CPU Offesne
Raise the CPU Goalie
Lower the Human Defense
Lower the Human Offense
Lower the Human Goalie
Edit your goalie(Roman Cechmanek and anyone who backs him up). To do this go to View Roster, then hit A(on XBOX). Then lower:

Vision and/or
Quickness and/or
Reflexes and/or
Lateral Movement and/or
anything else you think would decrease your's goalie's skills.
