Simple question: what is supposed to make Topspin 3 a better game than Virtua Tennis 3?

TS3 is a tennis sim. VT3 is Pong.
If you want more of a break down let me know.

Only if you want to break it down more, but I think I catch your drift. If we're on the same page, that's why I like 2K basketball games over EA: 2K is a sim, EA has the unrealistic arcade mess. Is this what you mean?

Yes, Top Spin has always been the more realistic title, and from the sounds of it they're really going to blow the doors off this year in terms of realism.

Ok. Since you can read on this site what TS3 has to offer, I will tell you what VT3 doesn't have to offer.
Realism- You run to where the ball will be, hold a button, the computer does the rest. If you are out of position, you will dive and lob the ball back in play. And the ball will land in almost every time. Then you will run and dive again, and so on. Very lame.
Graphics- VT3 does have decent models( TS3 Federer is kinda fat), but the textures and backgrounds aren't even close to TS3. Plus, we get sweaty pros on TS3! So eat that VT3....Actually, don't.
Animations- This is possibly the only place I like the look of VT3 better than TS3. All the players groundstrokes in VT3 look almost exactly like their real life counterparts. In TS3, the groundstrokes I have seen so far from all the players look the same. Very disappointing. However, the smooth animations the players have are extremely realistic. I just wish Roddick's forehand looked right on TS3. It's an awesome shot, and is captured well on VT3.
Sound- Why the developers at Sega would think we would want to here bad music while we play tennis, I will never know. Neither game has commentators though. Also disappointing.
Rosters- Neither are that great, but VT3 has more. 2k is supposedly making more available for download. So that's always a good thing. And please stop putting Mario Ancic in these games already!!
Fun- My mama, sister, and grandma could probably come over, play VT3 for an hour, and play ok with the rest of us. TS3, no such luck. The way it should be. Tennis is not a pick up and play sport. It appears that TS3 will reflect that very well.
My 2 cents... Hope it helped.

Yeah if its anything like TS1 this is a gonna be a great game (didnt play 2) This is the only sports game where I could not beat the cpu. At the grandslams I would get my arse handed to me and I liked it

That helped a lot--thanks for the info and your opinion. By the way--I really hope they make Andre Agassi as a downloadable player (I voted for tennis legends as downloadable content). If nothing else, just having players to download would automatically make TS3 a better game. Thanks again for your post grimmbomb.

I used to be a big fan of virtua tennis.
but they haven't improved much gameplay wise over the years.
they just upgrade graphics and not much else
don't get me wrong that game is still fun to play...
but it looks like topspin wants to upgrade it's gameplay
that's what i care more for is gameplay..add to that the graphics look even better than VT
topspin 3 should be the better game when it's released
just waiting for the demo than i'll have a better idea how the gameplay is

For me, Virtua Tennis 3 is too fast not very realistic...it´s really like pong and more a party- or fun game....But I also like to play it....
I love the Top Spin Series...
And I think Top Spin 3 will be the most realistic tennis-game...
But I'm curious about Smash Court Tennis 3....we will see

Smash Court Tennis 3 is a very solid tennis sim. The gameplay is good. The players' swing animations are very accurate. But the animation wasn't very smooth, in my opinion, and the player models are generic looking. Nadal just looks bad.

PlayStation 3 version will have online right? So I can play both singles or dubs with up to 4 players? I feel "cheated" out in virtua tennis 3 with no online play... How is top spin's "franchise mode" compared to virtua tennis 3's World Tour?
Is there mini-games in the TS series?
