View Full Version : No-One asks for this important factor...

...aftertouch on shots, not just serves, but normal shots. There have been few Tennis games ever that have shown clear curving of the ball on 'natural' shots, and yet in real life, most shots have a slight amount of side spin on them.
I know in TOP SPIN 2 there were the risk shots which you could (and the CPU could) add side spin to, say, a sliced return, but I want to see most shots in a tennis game doing this, in real life, commonly u see a ball curve out of play and then bend back in and not go out, thats what i call realism. I seem to recall being able to add aftettouch to shots in TS2 but never did the CPU players do this except on these risk shots, its not good.
I hear mention of 'accurate ball physics' this time round, but ALL gameplay videos i have seen of TS3 up until 9th May 08 have shown the ball seemingly going 'straight' for every shot, and even more surprising being as its also been mentioned that wind effects are in the game.
Hopefully I will get some positive feedback on this, after all, all other ball sports, football, golf, table tennis etc all have realistic ball paths for differing shots/passes etc, and its about time a tennis sim did.
All these questions being asked about tournaments, player accuracys, players being missing, sweat on shirts, control over player being more complete now, but until they can get a ball that reacts not only with top and backspin, but also sidespin, the better!!!!!

I have had the same ugly impression
we hope for the definitive version offers a good variety of the hits.

I can't believe they didn't pay attention to this important factor...it was possible on TS2, why not in this new TS3...maybe user needs to practice with the control to make the side-spin possible...
Regarding this aspect, I want to ask a question; i read the shot will be controlled by the right analog stick, pulled down to prepare, and released to hit the ball...but how can at the same time choose the type of shot (back, top, lob), if u need to move the player on the ground too?

It speaks of the effectiveness of these hits.
Above all it makes good use the cpu.
The controls of the draughts are served as the keys, only for the service from the analogical right :)

oh ok! sorry; misunderstanding :)
Regarding the system to hit the ball I read about the analogic system to control the shots...and how you can hit the ball with different times...in fact if you look the videos, sometimes happens that the player hits the ball with wrong time, too soon or late...and the effect on the shot is different...This is from the preview of the xboxteam:
"It’s not immediately natural to hold the swing button then release at the crucial time, as you are required to in Top Spin 3. But I found that when I did hit the ball soundly and squarely I felt much more in control of my shot..."

No problem :)
Regarding the system to hit the ball,
to strike the ball is owed to press the key and to hold presses him for then to release him/it to the correct moment for the impact with the same ball.
The position in comparison to the ball will be as many fundamental :)
But the question of Dazzer stays important, we hope in some answer :)

i talk of, i dont care about human being able to do it, it should be subtlely there on all shots from CPU and HUMAN, just like golf games always show the ball curving, or football (soccer hehe) since PES and FIFA have been improved, everything shows balls reacting with sidespin.
Got a feeling we will only see effects from wind affecting the ball, hence it will move in the air or 'bend'.....but hopefully the timing of shots will allow slice shots or other shots to introduce a curved flight ball
Services should all have bend on them anyway, if they dont i will be amazed.

Services actually do have a good amount of spin on them in TS3. For the most part, the only ground stroke in tennis that has a fair amount of side spin would be a slice. Do you mean you want to be able to "kick" your topspin ground strokes left or right in the game?

yes indeed, correct, most slice shots will have most natural side spin, but 'kicking' or 'aftertouch' on other shots (except serves), such as topspin ground strokes should be possible even without actually applying it by the human or cpu player, and most ground strokes in real life, wind or no wind, will have a slight sidespin on them, just like a pass in football (soccer to you damn americans lol) or any shot in golf, or any batting stroke in cricket, fact is a ball will always have some kind of top/back or side spin on it.....................UNLESS of course we are talking about tennis bloody videogames. You often in tennis see forehand shots down the line curving out of play and back in to be an 'in' shot, its just all about natural ball physics which this game is meant to have but doesnt appear in them videos, not even in the hd videos. Admittedly, animation and other ball physics aspects appear spot on, and hopefully i will be proved wrong on its release, i mean the ball MUST at least be affected in flight by the differing wind speeds that i notice on the hd videos.
I recall an old Amiga tennis game YEARS ago, late 80's/early 90's, actually had this spot on......strange.....and SEGA SUPERSTARS had swerving shots as a gimmic, and yet if they were in VIRTUA TENNIS 3 in a more subtle natural way, that would have made that game brilliant if a little arcadey for me.
ah well, lets wait and see
