Surprised that Dwight Howard wasn't even on the list. He would have been my first guess for the cover athlete. I know 2K hasn't had the same cover athlete since Allen Iverson but that is what I chose for 2k9. Based off the success New Orleans had this season and how Chris Paul was right up there for MVP. I found it hard to not choose him, Hornets look to contend against next season. My next vote was going to be for Deron Williams. Another upcoming pg, it was tough to choose between all 16.

Nah...that don't look like KG at all. When I saw the teaser pick, the 1st thing that came to mind was Tim Duncan, then after reading the list, I could definitely see Chris Bosh....look at the teaser pick and you can tell it by Bosh's facial structure....which is similar to Duncan's in my opinion....so since Duncan wasn't listed Bosh got my vote.

That is if the shadow pick is even a clue to who it is....it very well could have nothing to do with it.

One thing you can tell is that background was taken out of the video game, and is not a real picture. Just look at the rim, its the one from the game. I dont think that has anything to do with it, but then again they did this last year so I could be wrong. Last year people found the actual picture of Chris Paul, so I guess they didn't want that to happen again. I picked Baron Davis before I actually seen the shadow. I have no clue who it is.

I don't think in the history of 2K, that a Live cover athlete or one from any other game, has appeared twice on another basketball game, including 2K (except Shaq I think on live in 96). Then again Iverson was on the cover for 4-5 years, Ben Wallace 1, And Shaq for two lol. I That doesn't leave much room. KG was on Live before in 2001 I think.

And considering that fact Im sure 2k have used some kind of option to extend their contract with an extra year if they want. Since CP3 was a mvp candidate I think it would be a waste of money signing another coverathlete when you could(I presume) get CP3 to a descent price.

With all this said I still think CP3 is the player who deserves a cover the most due to his talent, energy, leadership and achievement this season!!!!

I figured out the 2K cover boy by process of elimination it cant be any NBA Live guys. Wade KG etc. It has to be one of the 4 teams in contention for the gold because this year is special unlike any other year. If its not Chris Paul I don't think 2K would go with any other point guard so that eliminates tony Parker. Everyone has to know the cover boy so Its got to be "The Truth" Paul Pierce but I would choose Caron Butler or Josh Smith but their not household names yet.

I picked Brandon Roy. I think it makes perfect sense for it to be him. Like Chris Paul, he won rookie of the year, in his second year he became an All Star. He lead his team to a .500 record which no one expected out of the Blazers. Who knows? If it hadn't been for a few player injuries this year we might have made the playoffs. He fits in as a can't miss rising star, perfect to put on the cover of NBA 2k9. NBA 2k9 can build a reputation of picking a cover athlete before the explode as a super star like they did with Chris Paul.

Brandon Roy is going to be even better next year as you can see he improved so much from his rookie season. He is only getting stronger and that steady progression makes you wonder how good he will become. It was great seeing him and Chris Paul run the floor together in the All Star game, trying to stage a late come back that fell just short.

Brandon Roy should be on the cover for a lot of good reasons. I hope that's who they pick.

1.) Someone said that they did the same contest last year, and the shadow pic they used was the actual pic that they used for 2K8's cover (Chris Paul). So while it could be a decoy, there is a chance that the man in the shadow is 2K9's cover athlete.

2.) It looks like he's left handed, and it looks like a Chris Bosh dunk. Just saying... Although since you mentioned it, I kind of see it as a righty and an optical illusion. Of course, they could have flipped the image horizontally, i.e. it is a right-hander but flipped to appear left-handed.

Either way, I'm looking forward to June 5. I hope they announce some game info as well.

Good photo evidence, but if the shadow is accurate, it looks more like Chris Bosh's limb proportions and facial structure.

On the other hand, there is probably more of a marketing upside to picking Garnett. It also makes sense to announce it at the Finals, considering Garnett would be there. I just imagine that more people will buy it if KG is on the cover over Bosh (I would rather have Bosh, but I'll buy it regardless).

Well I was with you until you said LeBron was gonna be the cover guy. Lets face it ppl, LB is too expensive for 2K or EA. Hence why he wasn't signed to either in his career thus far, I mean Carmelo came in the same year as LeBron and he went onto being Live's cover guy. I hope its LeBron so I can eat my words, but that ain't happening.

I've thought it over, and here's why it could be Lebron James.

1.) Everyone is talking about Take-Two (hereby 2K) as possibly being overtaken by EA. Even if they don't sell, there's been talk of a hostile takeover, whereby EA affiliates purchase the majority of 2K stock.
2.) Knowing this, 2K might want to make a big deal to raise their worth. They will probably sell more games with Lebron James than Chris Bosh (for example) on the cover, so they do that. Plus, if EA does make another purchase offer, Lebron James and his big contract will probably raise the offer price.
3.) The company has more money than they have had, as Rockstar Games, a division of Take-Two/2K, has earned a ton of money with its sales of Grand Theft Auto IV.
4.) 2K deals with Lebron for a multi-year deal so that they can sell more games now and in the future, get some return on their investment, and maybe if Lebron is slated to appear on 2K games for three or so years, the 2K franchise could continue even if EA buys 2K.

Now, that's all unlikely, but come on. Wouldn't the average fan rather buy a game with Lebron James on it rather than Chris Bosh, Andre Iguodala, or Brandon Roy? It's stupid, yes, but it's what got Derek Jeter on multiple MLB 2K series covers. Also, Lebron is entirely more marketable as people already know him. I know many people who know of Lebron James despite not watching any NBA broadcasts or having ever been to Cleveland.

So take that as you will. It's just my reasoning of why 2K might make such a lucrative move for the cover. (Of course, the numbers that he's asking, it's hard to justify. Still, they're announcing it tomorrow at the start of the NBA Finals, so couldn't it be someone big and notable?)

I really have said for a while now I think it's going to be Roy. Ironically people are sick of Lebron and it would discourage real NBA fans from buying the game because of Lebron's saturation in the market. Chris Paul was a fresh face, a up and coming player.

Brandon Roy is the perfect choice. Rookie of the Year, 2nd year all star, lead his team to a .500 record when no one thought we would win over 20 games. He is a humble guy, team first, doesn't care about stats. Hell, he played along CP3 in the back court of the Western Conference All Star game. A poster above made some great point for why it won't be players like Durant or Davis.

If it's not Roy I think it should be Iggy. Although I think Roy has a much more promising career ahead.

game looks sick already. I never got this excited for a game over what was probably a 10 second clip. But what I'm most impressed about is 2K's advertising. Every year people complain that 2k takes to long to release info and does not advertise their games enough. Well what better way to show off your game then during the NBA Finals where most basketball fans will be watching. I can only hope that they show the commercial a couple more times during the game.
