Done Deal

Ryan Meyer has just put pen to paper as manager for the New England Revolution. "I was overjoyed when the Revolution first contacted me about the job," said Ryan Meyer. "This is a marvellous opportunity for me and I want to repay the board with results on the pitch." "Ryan Meyer arrives with a great reputation," said the board of directors. "He's a popular manager, gets on well with his players, and has some innovative ideas that he wants to bring to the club. We can expect a few changes both on and off the pitch as the season progresses.

Reis, Noonan Clutch, Revs Squeak Out Opening Win

http://images.wireimage.com/images/tnm/3807283.jpg

New England had several good opportunities early to put the ball in the net, but poor passing and an offsides call prevented good attempts on net from developing. However, it would be the poor defensive clearance by the Red Bulls which would allow Pat Noonan to waltz right through the defense for the games first goal 23 minutes in to give the Revolution a 1-0 lead.

Once again poor passing became an issue, as a poor Red Bull header led to a 4 on 3 Revolution advantage down the field which allowed Andy Dorman to hit Pat Noonan with a sweet pass which he once again put by the keeper to give the Revs a 2-0 lead 33 minutes into the game.

Although the Revolution were able to control the ball most of the half, the Red Bulls had their chances to score, and finally converted 1 minute into stoppage time, as Juan Pablo Angel broke through the back line of the Revolution defense to cut the lead to 2-1 entering halftime.

Although the Revs had some good crosses to start the second half, they were not able to convert, and Avery John created a cardinal sin on defense by fouling Jose Pablo Angel in the box to give the Red Bulls a penalty kick. However, the speedster Angel did not get much on the kick, and Matt Reis guessed correctly, moving to his left to make the big save to preserve the 2-1 lead with 30 minutes left in the game.

Again the Red Bulls made a push 1 minute into stoppage time, as they were able to push down the field through a very good Revs defense. Jozy Altidore broke through the left side of the defense and stood 1 on 1 with Matt Reis. Fighting the tough angle near the out line, he pushed a cross to the other side of the net, but John Wolyniec pushed the header over the net to ruin yet another great opportunity. That was the last opportunity the Red Bulls had, as the Revolution pulled out a hard fought victory, 2-1.

Yea, not a big fan of USA soccer, but didnt really think anyone would read it. I just finished up a season with Barcelona. Anyway, figured people round here might know more bout the MLS.

Anyways, yes, I'm playing a 3-5-2, mainly because its their generic set in the game, and not knowing their strengths or weaknesses I just went with it. It worked well though, I mean, they beat the defense a few times because I'm a risk taker and used to people being there to back it up. However, I was also able to control the midfield virtually all game. With Barcelona, I ran the 5-2-2-1, but that was mainly because they were quick, and could still get great opportunities on the offensive end. Without a quick team its nearly impossible to run a formation like that.

Noonan Sharp, Revs Win Big

http://soccernet-akamai.espn.go.com/design05/mediaUS/20060111/w_noonan_195.jpg

This game started similar to the last one for the Revolution. New England controlled the midfield very well, and Noonan converted on a pass he received from the corner not even 5 minutes into the match to give the Revolution a 1-0 lead.

6 minutes later, Pat Noonan received a pass from Taylor Twellman, and busted through the defense. Although the keeper was able to save the initial shot, Noonan fought for the rebound and easily tucked it into the back of the net to give the Revs a 2-0 lead only 11 minutes into the game.

The rest of the half was very back-and-forth, as Toronto never gave up. The last good opportunity would come to the Revs, as Twellman crossed it to Noonan, but he missed the chance at the hat trick by putting the header just over the crossbar. However, the Revs were still happy to go into the half with a 2-0 lead.

53 minutes in, it was Noonan delivering the nice pass, as Taylor Twellman had split two defenders and Noonan put it on the money. Twellman was able to beat the keeper with a shot to the right for his first goal of the season, to extend the Revs lead to 3-0.

10 minutes later, Noonan completed the hat trick. Dorman gave him a pass outside of the box, and moving to his left he put some power into his shot which completely fooled the keeper, and pushing the Revs lead to 4-0.

At the 66 minute mark, Toronto striker Danny Dichio broke the shut out, as he beat a sluggish Revs defense to the mark and pushed one past Matt Reis to cut the lead to 4-1. Toronto would put a few shots off the post in the closing minutes, but the game would still end 4-1.
