it could happen, ea seems to half *** their nhl games, but idk..... If 2k9 is gonna be a whole different game than the other 2k nhl games, i really dont think 2k stands a chance, thats why 2k8 for 360 and ps3 were so bad.... way too much change.

Well 2K8 was better than 08 in many ways. Don't see how it's even too unlikely.

Judging from the press release that 2K9 is being built from the ground up, I'd say 09 has the edge at this point.
That's not a shot at VC or this series, but anytime you start something from scratch it's going to have some 1st-year issues.
Saying that, I'm still very geeked to see what VC can do. The 2K series has felt so stale for the past 3-4 years, that a new start will be welcomed.

And remember, NHL07 was a first-year game and despite some obvious flaws it was a crap load of fun to play.

I'm looking forward to NHL09 as well. I thought 08 and 2K8 both had some excellent qualities, but both had some issues too.

Here's to hoping we can get a fun experience out of both.

ok maybe u can say nhl 08 is fun, but 07 might be the worst hockey game i ever played, next to nhl 2005. hockey games arent the same anymore, i liked it when they were simple, now seems like everyone is trying to hard to put all this fancy crap in the game >_<

IMO, 2K3 was the best hockey game they made.
I loved the AI, the puck physics and the goalies (PS2 goalies - COMPLETELY different from the stonewalls in the xbox version).

That game really felt like hockey.

If the guys at Visual Concepts are indeed correctly implementing all the things they have been asking about at 2KHockey.net and the gameplay is similar to what it was,but with smarter AI;I think 2K9 could definately give 09 a run for it's money.I think they would be smart to price it at $30 right away as well.

I honestly think 2Khockey.net does more negative than good.
You have a handful of fans (that make up maybe .001%) of the buying public demanding some ridiculous things.

For me, if they can clean up the graphics/models, get the presentation to at least NHL2005 standards and simplify the controls, it'll be a great start.
But the CPU AI needs a lot of work and the hitting must be toned down.
I love how in NHL08, not everyone can flatten anyone on the ice. Try to hit Chara while controlling Alex Tanguay and see how you make out.

So not asking for better atmosphere until they fix the AI could be a mistake because maybe they just won't be able to get the AI where it needs to be for 2K9. Well at least they worked on atmosphere, then 2K10 might have improved AI but it already has the atmosphere down pat from 2K9, rather than us having to wait until 2K11.

We do have a pretty good idea what they are working on from what We Want The Cup has asked for input on.As I said though,if they at least toned down the checking they can slowly mend the different aspects of the AI year after year.If they take it in stages,similar to what EA has done,they should have an excellent game in about 5 years.A good game in three.Only time will tell though.

While some can be overly critical at 2KHockey.net,alot of them have been putting up with the series since its inception,so I can kind of understand.

NHL 08 its HITFEST , 2-3 hits per minuttes , easy scores , easy passes, easy games , unrealistic easy online play , stupid dynasty without atmosphere = FIFA 08 , NBA 08 = EA sports systems for easy players ! I want 2k hard core style , I want same good game as NBA 2k8 on the ICE !!!

According to crashthenet.ca, EA has a lot of things in store for 09. The people who've seen it are excited.

That being said, 09's not even on my radar. Can't wait for more info about 2K9.

NHL 2k* are more realistic than NHL 0*.
Personally, I can't play NHL08 more than 20 minutes (PS3)...that really sucks, that goes too fast, it's not real, I really prefer NHL2k8 which has a better gameplay, which is a real simu-game compared to NHL08...

the ONLY wow that came from 08 was "wow, this game is pure junk. guys fly 5 feet to their left or right to make a hip check. then when made, my my practically dies".

Be a pro is basically you create a player and take him through the AHL till he is ready for a call up and get points based on performance to improve your skills

and well 2k games havent beat Ea yet(very close in 07)

Yeah, 2K's trying to make the game easy to pick up and play with as little thinking as possible for you.

With any luck, 2K8's default controls will still be available to those enjoyed them, though.

Others might think different, but I think NHL 09 is going to beat 2K9 this year. However, I'm glad that Visual Concepts took over Kush Games in a chance to make NHL 2K9 better.
Here are some things that I hope won't be on NHL 2K9 that were on NHL 2K8:

Really bad face hair (players have moustaches, beards, neck hair, etc. when they really don't)
Stupid goalies (Goalies sprawl onto the ice and act like they're having a seizure, I hope they change that and a lot more goalie animations. I hate it when goalies go out of the trapezoid and get a Delay of Game penalty)
They want to call their game real? How about having 4 officials on the ice?
I hope they have the Delay of Game penalty (flipping it over the glass in the D zone)
4 minute High Stickings (09 has 5 minute High Stickings, does that happen often in the NHL? I hate that!):confused:
How about broken sticks 2K9 and 09?

Rick Nash says he wants more scoring, the scores are high enough! I get a 5-4 average score at the end of the first playing 10 minute periods with it on Hall of Famer, with the Defense and Goalie Saves at 100 and Offense at 60! Do I need to turn the Offense down to 0?

And for all the other gamers who want the goalies to be dumbed down, you guys don't know how to play! If you guys knew how to play, you'd get higher scores.

So I hope Visual Concepts changes the game totally and makes it just like NHL 2K5 and NHL 09 combined. :dance:

I also disagree. EA may always out sell 2k but for me being a customer who is only interisted in the franchise mode Ea blows compared to 2k8 and so does NHL 09. No fantasy draft again this year just to name one. If it wasn't for the freezing do to trades and injuries 2k8 would be for ME the best franchise mode to date bar none
