View Full Version : the Score Bar at the bottom of the screen annoys me

ive always despised these over elaborate and much too big sports counter ticker bar things. especially in this game where it blocks the view of players on the bottom of the screen when you zoom out, which obscures their receiver button. its ok when youre running singleback, but having two or more in the backfield can get especially confusing.
besides, the old, simple 2k5 scoreboard was the best. small, got the job done, and was retro 90s style. only problem was, it would occasionally get in the way when aiming punts.

I wish it was a little smaller too, maybe just a score and clock in one of the upper corners that goes away when the ball is snapped.
Plus I know a few people who's plasma TVs got that ticker burnt into the screen. Ouch.

It's left burn-in on my rear-projection tv. Permanent damage. :( I turn on the Wii, the white background is there, and the scoreboard is still visible.

^Does it show you winning or losing? A scoreboard always telling you you're losing by three touchdowns seems like it'd be a little disappointing.

actually, it kinda looks like I'm playing myself and losing.

you talking about the ticker at the bottom or the actual score with your team names (abbreviated)? because the ticker can be turned off

The actual score bar. It needs to change color, change location, and completely disappear when not in use. The way it is right now *does* cause burn-in, which isn't good. :(

Of course Don, I forgot. We all have enough money to just go out and buy a new TV because a modern video game that has the capability to NOT cause burn-in, does.
Please don't come in here and just presume we all have cash to waive around.

you guys with burn in probably didn't adjust your tv's. I have a sony RPTV I've had for years and the first thing I did was "calibrate" it. Not professionally but with the discs and such. I've gamed on that TV for hours upon hours and for years and never had burn in or even a hint of it. All TVs come from the manufacturer in "torch" mode. They jack up the brightness and sharpness so that they stand out from the other TVs in the store. These settings are not recommended for normal viewing and are the usual culprits for burn in.
I have a friend who never really adjust his set and purchased his after I purchased mine. You go to his crib and the color looks washed out and the words "DVD" is burned in the set from him listening to music yet leaving the tv on for hours. Where's bigfnjoe when you need him lol

I have my TV adjusted each year. It's free with a cleaning of the tubes as part of a 5 year warranty plan I purchased (thank goodness - used it for cleaning each year and to fix 2 problems with the power supply). Burn in though. It just comes from playing 500+ games one the thing and that stupid bar never moving. No other game has ruined my TV. Just APF2K8.

What he said. Thankfully, the damage may not be "permanent". It depends on if the burn is on the tubes, the lens, or the screen. If it's on the fresnel lens (don't think so), then that may be costly. If it's the screen, then I'm pretty sure that's replaceable, but not worth fixing until either I stop playing the game, or the game is fixed to not cause it. It's not a hard fix - have the bar change colors regularly (at least!), or have it be a particular shade of gray that (to my understanding) won't cause burn-in. Have it disappear when not in use - like in the middle of plays - we're not staring at the store (usually) when the ballcarrier has is in play. The clock perhaps, but not the score. Just be creative, that's all. I played NFL2K5 FAR more than APF, and no burn.

how much dirt does that cleaning take out?
do you have a "wash out" feature on your tv ala plasmas?
if it were me, id take the tv apart and clean everything myself then put it back together.
if worse comes to worse and you DO have that warranty, break the tv (let it fall and crack) and then get a replacement for free

the score bar at the bottom of the screen is a game design 'feature'. the defense is so overpowered in this game, the programmers didn't want you to see the receiver designator until the last possible moment to hinder manually assigned double coverage.
