From what I've heard the fight could take place on December 6th. I actually think this could be an exciting fight. Both fighters are getting up there in age, but have been relatively inactive(fighting once a year or so). Tito looked pretty good against Jones, he was just too small for Jones. Delahoya is coming off a win over Steve Forbes from the contender. I think this fight is an important fight for the fighters, but will mean nothing to the boxing community. Either way, it is a fight I would enjoy watching, and would pay for. I'd rather watch Oscar fight Tito, than watch Oscar fight a top welterweight that he does NOT deserve a fight against, like Cotto.

I kinda felt burned from the De La Hoya-Mayweather fight (too much hype before the fight, not enough real action in the ring)... I sort of felt suckered into buying into the names involved, when it was apparent during the fight that both fighters were just looking to get paid while dishing out and absorbing as little punishment as possible.
Two "name" fighters nearing the end of their careers in De La Hoya and Tito seems like another situation where the actual in-ring action might be a little underwhelming.

Floyd's fights are all horribly boring unless he's the bigger guy. IF he's the smaller guy. He's 1-2 and running. Its boring to watch, but it works.

Good, that way both of these guys can retire and we see the younger guys at 147, 154, 160 do their thing.

sounds like some de la haters. i'd love to see dlh fight cotto. why not? doesnt cotto deserve the money. and its not like dlh was ever dominated by anyone, bhop had the only decisive victory over him. give credit where its due.

I thought MOsley beat DLH convincingly, and I'm a big "Oscar" fan, even named my black lab after him. *grin*
I mentioned in another post that I usually go with my father-in-law to a Mexican Bar to watch the PPV. I'm not realy that interested in this fight necessarily. But, Oscar will be in it, and the atmosphere at the bar will amplify the importance/enjoyment of the fight.

I wouldn't mind watching Trinidad vs. De La Hoya again, but the first fight dissapointed me quite a bit. I was wanting those 2 to fight for years and when it finally happened, I thought I would witness one of the greatest fights of all time. Instead, it was a descent fight but not an all time classic. A rematch would be somewhat interesting, but I see De La Hoya winning a unanimous decision by moving and outboxing Felix. I'm a huge Trinidad fan, but to be honest I see De La Hoya's speed and accuracy to be too much for Trinidad. He'll spend the entire fight trying to walk Oscar down, but won't be able to get off punches before DLH is gone. Whether you think Oscar deserves it or not, I would like to see Oscar vs. Margarito or Cotto. Oscar can still hang with world class guys, and either of those two guys come to fight and are most always exciting. But at the same time, I think Oscar would lose to Cotto or Margarito because of their pressure and aggression.

Oscar doesnt still have the legs he did in their first fight. I think this fight will be held in close quarters. And that gives the harder punching Tito a huge advantage(imo). Oscar is a distraction for all title holders in the 147, and the 154 pound classes. Any fighter that wins a title in those weight classes mentions his name the second after the decision is announced, it drives me nuts.

I see your point but you have to give Oscar his props. He fights everybody, and fought just about all the top fighters in or around his weight class his entire career. He's a hall of famer in my opinion because even though he came up short in some of the big fights, he still beat a lot of very good fighters and never ducked anybody. Not to mention, he's the most recognizable face in the sport still and the money that he can generate makes him a very attractive opponent for any of the top fighters.
Also, good point about Oscar's legs, but Tito isn't the same fighter he once was. I'd like to believe he is and if he fought Oscar, he would revert back to the old Tito that would pressure and k.o. most everyone he fought, I just don't see it happening. I see Oscar keeping Tito at bay with his jab and counterpunching. I don't see Oscar on his toes the whole fight, but I see him keeping the fight in the center of the ring and when Tito gets close he moves out of the way. I know that even though I like DLH, I would be rooting for Tito to win. I just don't know if he's got another great fight left in him. I hope so.

He's won three big fights, Chavez, Quartey, and Vargas. He's lost the rest, Mosley I,II, Trinidad, Mayweather, Hopkins. You could almost include the Sturm fight. He's great but he doesn't step up consistently in big moments.

I agree that he has lost some of the bigger fights, but my point is that because he's been willing to fight the best, has beaten some very good fighters, and has transcended the sport makes him a hall of famer. If you are going to put a guy like Thomas Hearns in the hall of fame (deservedly so), who beat a lot of very good fighters but in the biggest moments against Leonard and Hagler, he lost, then Oscar should be in there also. I am not saying that Oscar is the greatest fighter of all time, but he's a definite great in my opinion in the same vain that Hearns is. They fought everybody and win or lose, put up a great fight.
In fact, one could make an argument that De La Hoya beat Trinidad and Mosely the 2nd time. The only guy that decisively beat DLH was Hopkins.

I enjoy watching Oscar fight, and I think he basically schooled Tito for 9 rounds in their fight, but I think Oscar has slowed enough for Tito to catch him flush, now. Tito looked actually pretty good when he fought Jones(imo). When this fight does happen, it will be at middle or slightly above, and we all know what Oscar looks like above 154 pounds. Tito went to Jones' body like a maniac for the first 6 rounds or so. Oscar will fold if he gets hit like that to the body(ala Hopkins). Oscar did fight alot of the best, but ducked the best junior middleweight of the last 10 years in Ronald "Winky" Wright(imo). Winky beat Tito, and Sugar Shane easily. There is no logical reason Oscar vs Winky SHOULDNT HAVE faught, besides that Oscar knew it would be another loss on his record.

I have to give Winky his props as an excellent technician in the ring who has beaten some excellent fighters. But, he's not a marketable fighter at all because of his sometimes passive style. He's become more aggresive over the past couple of years, but his problem is that he just isn't exciting. When he tries to be exciting, he ends up having a tough time such as the Taylor & Hopkins' fights. But when he gets in that defensive shell and throws the occasional counterpunch, he's incredibly successful such as in the Trinidad fight and in the Mosely fights. Plus, he has pretty much no power because he throws arm punches and doesn't actually put his body behind his shots. A guy having not much power is fine if they are busy and fun to watch, but Winky can be downright unwatchable at times. So the reality is that there was really not much of a clamor for DLH to fight Wright because Winky just doesn't invoke a whole lot of excitement (imo)
My biggest problem with Winky is that he's all about money. He has gotten offers to fight some of the best, but prices himself right out of possible great matchups. I understand that because of Winky's resume, he feels he should be well compensated for his fights. But he always wants the lion's share of the purse and he's just not a draw. The only Winky Wright fight I've ever paid for was against Trinidad and I severly regretted wasting the money on that fight (note-Trinidad didn't try to do a whole lot in that fight either. I'm not just blaming Winky). He just priced himself out of a possible matchup against Pavlik, which I read on ESPN. Winky's not getting any younger and has been inactive for a while. If he truly wants to prove he's one of the greats, he needs to tone down his asking price in order to make big fights.
