I know that people always tend to complain about lag in online games, but I am not one of those people. Usually I can cope with lag in games but in Top Spin 3 the problem really ruins things.
The issue is that lag in this game manifests itself in what looks like framerate hitches or stutters in the game. That in turn throws off the biggest feature of this game - the timing based control scheme. My past two games for example my character would often not even swing despite me timing the ball the same way I do normally when the lag is not bad because the game stutters just as I'm about to swing and it's almost like my letting go of the button doesn't register because of this. To be clear it is not that I don't understand the control in this game, I never have this problem timing the shots offline or when I get in a match without lag, it's when there is this constant stuttering in the laggy matches that all the timing goes out the window.
My hope is that they will lower the threshold for what quality of connection is allowed in matchmaking. As it is now I am probably going to get rid of the game because 50% of the matches I play have this kind of lag. Is there any solution in the works?
I realize this is probably not such a problem for people in Europe as that seems to be where the vast majority of players are, but trust me it's a huge problem in the US where you are matched against someone from Europe or Australia almost every time. It was never this bad in the previous Top Spin games nor in VT3 even when I was matched against people in EU or Au.
