I would just like to know if NHL 2K9 is at risk of not being released in the case of an EA buyout. Or, would a buyout have no effect on the release of the game?

The games going to be released. Even if the buyout were to happen, things wouldn't be done until well after the game releases. There's no risk.

here i thought this was going to say

"is 2k9 at risk of being ruined because of the wii version and this need to dumb down the controls"

You do realize that they are only "dumbing down" the default controls and that the 2K8 control scheme is still going to be in if you want to use them, right? And this simplifying of controls is being made so people can focus on playing and enjoy the game, and not focus on making sure they are holding the correct buttons to properly shoot a slap shot.

i understand they will be in the game.

but the "default" settings set the tone of the game. Could you imagine dumbing down the controls for like a street fighter game. and then trying to pass it off to the hard core gamers that "its cool, we are doing it so you dont have to worry about controlling so much of what happens on screen. these predefined animations will let you sit there and watch the fight without having to get all involved"

or go to a street racing game, and say " we are taking out all those un-needed buttons.. this year we have a go and stop button only. "

im clearly taking that little snip-it baddly. but ive been waiting to hear some info. and the big 3 bullet points are

- simplified controls

-zamboni mini game

- new fighting engine..... HELLO!!! fighting is on a serious decline in todays NHL!!!!

im supposed to go back to my league and say

"guys, i know we all wanted improved graphics and online franchises. but this zamboni race is going to be super cool. "

They want the game to appeal to more people so that it can sell more units, so they can actually make some money off the franchise. I see nothing wrong with wanting to do that, and if it means simplifying the default controls, then so be it. If it makes the game more "pick up and play" for more people, that's a good thing in the end.

Street fighter is a very niche game, I wouldn't want NHL to be that niche. And most racing games default to Automatic transmission, so basically, you only have to worry about gas and brake (go and stop).

They revealed very little, and while it would have been nice to see and know more from the press conference, I think we'll have to wait a little longer for more concrete information. The guy from Operation Sports mentioned a press event for the sports games at a later date. Here is the link: Click Me (http://www.operationsports.com/newspost.php?id=256383). He mentions it at the 11:11 timestamp mark in the blog.

Playoff beards are going to be cool and the Stanley Cup celebration is going to be awesome. I've always wanted a interactive celebration. 2K9 sounds good already.

nothing wrong with making money.

but, if they are going to go EA's pick up and play gameplay route, they better bring EA's graphics with them.

time will tell. i hope this guys quotes are just rubbing me the wrong way and this game is just as SIM as its always been.

Versatility and flexibility are two elements that 2k has always championed. The many sliders allow you to customize at-home play and, to a lesser extent, on-line play. Hopefully, 2K is smart enough to realize that they should not diminish what has made them reasonably successfull. As frustrating as the glitches and disconnects are at times, the on-line game environment is pretty good ... when it functions properly. If they ever messed that up, it would be a disaster.
