This is good news, a bout against Pavlik just might happen afterall. If Kelly really wasnt/needs a fight with Joe Calzaghe he should get a Paul Williams fight out of his thoughts, and challenge one the the supermiddleweight titlists very soon.

I hope your right Korey, I've heard that Joe will retire after he fights Jones though.

I got the info on fightnews.com. Check it out. According to them Joe plead with the WBO(whowas going to strip him of his title), to keep his title, and said he would defend the title sometime after the Jones fight. I hope win or lose to Jones that he does give Pavlik, a shot, since hes deciding to go back down in weight.

Great news, Korey. I definitely have much less of a problem with the Jones fight now. Seems like Calzaghe wants the fight with Pavlik, and hopefully it will come off. That is, if he beats Jones (he probably will, but wouldn't it be sweet if Jones were able to recapture some of that old magic and come up with a huge upset? That's why I love boxing. :D )

Yes a Jones win would be sweet, and is not even close to out of the question. It would be a bigger victory if Joe would fight and beat(?) Pavlik first though.

If Pavlik mows down Hopkins, I can see Calzaghe passing a brawl with Pavlik up opting for someone like Carl Froch, maybe? If he chooses to defend his belt. Calzaghe's going through that Frank Warren lawsuit and y'know his head is probably not completely on training for Jones.

It makes me wonder if that was the reason the Jones fight was postponed and not a hand injury suffered by Calzaghe, who knows. Joe better get this lawsuit taken care of and focus on Jones, because we all know Jones is going to be ready. I can tell Jones is going to come into this fight very focused and determined. I cant recall a fight Jones was more excited about than this bout. This fight is like 12 years in the making, so we know Jones is "up" for this fight, and Joe better be ready.

I have no doubt that Jones is going to be focused and ready for this fight. What my concern is that how much does Roy have left and can he rekindle that speed and reflexes that made him one of the best fighters I've ever seen. If he can, it's gonna be a long night for Joe, but which Jones comes into the ring that night will determine the outcome, imo.

Jones will have speed and power but the issue with him is his legs. He just doesn't have leg movement anymore.

I know what you mean, lucky he only 'sprained' it.

I dont think he'll need them, because he will be the one doing the stalking, not Joe. Jones has somewhat developed a peekaboo style defense in recent fights, and it has worked well, he blocks pretty much everything to the head , and counters when he sees openings. I doubt Joe will stand and trade with Jones, so this might work.

This is what I am wondering. Can Jones knockout Calzaghe? Because if he can't, it's going to be a long night for Jones. I think Jones can get the win, but I also thought Lacy was going to do the same.

He made that clear a month ago when he said he would return to supermiddle after the Jones bout. I have another thread on here stating that.

Exactly, thats what makes this bout still interesting. Jones has the punching power and quickness to make most fighters second guess about coming straight after him. I just cant see Joe being as busy in this fight as he normally is, due to those two factors.

Calzaghe changed his mind, and says Jones will be his last fight.

He had that against Tarvor and Glen Johnson and got knocked out himself :rotfl: Jones at his best was with his leg movement. He might still have a chance but with the leg movement he used to have it would be no contest.

According to ESPN.com, Joe now says that the Jones fight will in fact be his last fight. I'm not really happy about that, but it is what it is. To me, Joe's legacy is up for debate. He spent a decade as champion, but if you look up and down his record it's mostly made up of scrubs or fighters past their primes except Kessler and Lacy. And he's going out fighting Roy well past his prime in what constitutes a no win fight for Joe. Wins, and he beat an old fighter, lose and he lost to an old fighter. To me, Joe will go down in history as one of the best Europeon fighters of all time, but on the all time great list I'm not sure if he's on it or how high.
