Doesn't seem to have:
In fact it seems like the Wii version will have everything the 360/PS3 versions do, except online play. [...]
Biggest Negative: No online play for the Wii version., Link. (http://www.operationsports.com/forums/e3-2008-coverage/256230-nhl-2k9-hands-off-first-look.html)

I don't really see why it's important for the Wii version to have online play. I mean, the Wii is marketed as a "group play" console. Having people over and all playing the thing together, in person, seems to be the main focus for the Wii, not online play. So, if the focus of NHL 2K9 on Wii is to have friends over and play it, instead of online play, it's not really deviating from what Nintendo envisions for the machine. If you really want online play, then the 360 or PS3 should be your choice of console.

Still online play is always a big part of sports games in general and I will not be purchasing it because of this, I could just buy the ps2 version and I could still play with friends and still play online.

Wow.. Ive seen some weak cop-outs in my day but this is pretty ridiculous. So you couldnt sit around and have a good ol time with friends on anything but a Wii? Im sure 2k's line of thinking went something like this "Lets get this thing online!".. "No, sir. I disagree. Adding something that should be in 100% of sports games in the year 2008 would ruin nintendo's vision of the Wii which is to only have fun with those in the house. Lets keep this thing 90's and keep it out". "Yeah.. good point, having this game online would add a great feature to the Wii, and sell more games, which of course, would totally take the fun out of the Wii system and in turn pi_s off nintendo..."

I love people here. Forget about the cost to implement online play for the Wii version (no, I'm not saying it would be extraordinary, though I know replies will make it seem that I am), maintaining the service (this isn't Xbox Live), with the likelihood that online play wouldn't even be used by Wii owners at anywhere near the frequency it's used by 360 and PS3 owners. How about the Friend Code system just making the experience more trouble than it's worth? Plus, you can't even talk to whoever you're playing online so there's very little use at all.

Does it suck that the Wii version's not online? Of course it does. But there are reasons for it. You can hate on 2K/VC for this, but it's just as much Nintendo's fault as anybody's.

If Nintendo hates online, why did they give Kart online an entire channel? Why is there online in SSBB? Granted, the friend codes are annoying, but it's a functional system.

But anyway . . . I'm on the opposite end of this debate. Online would be nice, high quality graphics would be nice, but what really, really matters in year one is core gameplay. If it's bad, no level of graphics can fix that. Sort of like how Pro Evo Wii beats out FIFA, even though it isn't anything to look at.

Getting the game to work right ought to be priority #1. And 2. And 3.

I'll be happy to jump on the incremental improvement treadmill (improvements to graphics and online over time) - but the gameplay has to be there from day one, or I'm out.

Yeah, I have to agree with you here, Blue58. Using b-Dub's logic, I guess Mario Kart's or SSBB's online mode is barely used by Wii owners...
