This is the official list sent out from the 2K Sports offices. Let me say that this list isn't 100% extensive, meaning there is still a lot more to announce.

Game Overview:
Do you long for the days when hockey video games didn’t require an engineering degree to master? 2K Sports has listened to the masses by bringing the fun back to hockey video games with an intuitive control scheme, hard-hitting action and by announcing the debut of NHL 2K9 on the Wii™ console. Developed by award-winning Visual Concepts studios, NHL 2K9 brings a totally rebuilt NHL experience to life with a brand-new in-game presentation system, as well as fresh player animations and controls that fans will enjoy from the moment they play their first game, until well after they become a seasoned veteran. Further adding to an unmatched level of fun and celebrating the NHL’s uniqueness are an all-new Zamboni™ mini-game, playoff beards, a new fighting engine and more! Complete with new commentary, a user-friendly franchise mode and upgraded online features, NHL 2K9 brings the fun back to game consoles on 9.9.08!

Key Features List:
Pick-Up-And-Play Controls – Fans asked and 2K Sports answered with easy-to-learn ontrols that still provide depth for the season veteran. With 2K Sports' classic default controls, a player’s first game will be as enjoyable as their one-thousandth, while the new and intuitive hybrid controls will provide the depth experienced vets are looking for.

Enhanced Gameplay - An updated arsenal of highlight reel-worthy superstar moves, blocked shots, stick-handling moves, hit-by-puck collisions, and a greatly-enhanced skating engine make up for an exciting and all-new hockey experience complete with more than 1,400 new gameplay animations.

All-New Presentation System – Pre-game intros, menus, new crowd animations, game summary replays, and brand new commentary featuring Randy Hahn and Drew Remenda of the San Jose Sharks bring a fresh new look and sound to NHL 2K9’s visual and audio experience.

True Hockey Fun! – Fans can indulge in what makes hockey such a unique and fun sport with the addictive Zamboni™ mini-game, user-controlled Stanley Cup™ celebrations, playoff beards, enhanced checking and a brand-new fighting engine.

Reel Maker™ ¬2K9 ¬– Included this year on both Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION3, fans will be able to save, edit, share and rate user-generated NHL 2K9 highlight reels online through Xbox Live™ and PlayStation®Network.

2K Beats – Featuring Pennywise, Bad Religion, The Offspring, NOFX, The Ramones, Inner Circle, Mastodon, Operation Ivy, High on Fire and more.

Wii™ Key Features List:
2K Sports is proud to announce NHL 2K9 will be coming to the Wii Console™ from Nintendo this fall. As the first and only officially licensed NHL and NHLPA video game for Wii, NHL 2K9 will offer fans the fun opportunity to play like the pros using the Wii Remote™ controller as a hockey stick and experience the sport in a new, entertaining and wholly unique manner.

Wii Remote™ Shooting – Execute wrist shots with the flick of the Wii Remote or put some power into shots by holding the B button while flicking the Wii Remote to blast a slapper.

Wii Remote™ Fighting – Adding a never-before-seen layer of fun to hockey video games, NHL 2K9 features on-ice showdowns. When two players have raised their aggression enough to fight, pointing the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controller downward drops the gloves. Once a fight has started, punch with the Nunchuk and balance with the Wii Remote to get your opponent off their feet.

Precision Passing / Chain Passing – Exclusive to Wii, take the guesswork out of which player is going to receive a pass by selecting players with the Wii Remote cursor. One-timers, give-and-go and tic-tac-toe passing are executed by selecting multiple players prior to pressing the pass or A button.

Wii Remote Goaltending – Gesture-based goaltending allows fans to get between the pipes and flash the leather. Even take control when it counts the most -- in shootouts!

Full Featured Simulation – NHL 2K9 on Wii offers the same full-featured, fun hockey experience as available on other platforms complete with franchise mode, practice mode with a tutorial, pond hockey, and much more!

I read this last week. I think I speak for alot of people when I say I want to find out more about this game, because right now it isn't looking that promising. I only look to see if it is worth the 60 bucks or not, and so far, I can't say I am sold on this game. I hope the next batch of info is more exciting than this

By reading that, we can rest assured there's nothing new or better with 2K9 as they would have probably already tryed to push into our mind that the game will be better than 2k6,7 and 8 while 8 was in fact a downgrade of 7 and while 7 was just a copy of 6 with different Rosters. Now instead of fixing all their glitches and trying to make a game worth about 30$ (that they would of course charge us 60), 2K has decided to innovate.

First, let's dedicate all our ressources to the Wii and finance that with the Heavy Price paid by the 360 players. Then, let's update the rosters on 2K8 and slap a ticket saying 2k9 on front of the boxes and ship it. Anyway, we were already smart enough to Not update the rosters during the season so we can rest assured well make more millions off this game.

Do you all remember what they said to justifty Not updating the rosters this winter? ''All of our dev teams are working hard on Making 2K9 as best as possible''. that was a lie. the true statement should have been ''We've decided to split our dev team in 3. First share will go work on MLB2k9, their work is no longer needed on the NHL Franchise as for the next 3 years we will be shipping updated UI copies of 2K8. Second share shall make a Wii version of the 2K2 edition of the game. That way we can compensate for the accidental lost of previous edition sound files and blame the Wii for it. 3rd share will run around with leather balls and eat pork and beans all day long until release."

just very dissapointed with the words coming out of 2k's mouth. im a very loyal 2k fan but feel like they have turned their back on what has made the franchise great.

I WANTED to hear about no more server errors. or no more lock ups during dynastys... or no more with feateures like the player draft not working. or more realistic player ratings.... or better graphics.. or online dynasty. or when i win the stanley cup (without simming any games and winning the presidents cup) i get the achievements or so on and so on.
so instead of mumbling to my self about zambonis i made a few posts here

we are running with 2k next season till the tribe votes it out. we will see how it plays. that will speak louder than what has been IMO a misguided and lacking pr job

Didn't seem bad, I just hope the game itself is sound, meaning no major glitches and problems. Like that my online record will save and I can get the achievements, which haven't changed and didn't work. I will see if this game is worth my $60 or if sadly I'll have to buy the ea version which would literally kill me. If I get 09(doubt it) I'll probably get the wii version. Sounds ok, gotta see the demo and everything else.

You're never going to hear from a box list about glitches and errors being fixed. Maybe from developer interviews if the questions are asked, but it will never be in a feature list.

IMPROVED STABILITY: Our game will now be limited of glitches and freezing so your butt never has to leave the couch to reset your console! You can enjoy your potato chips and beverage of choice like never before!

zamboni races?

"Yes!!! and it counts" - Marv Albert

All we need now are turret guns on top of the zamboni and we got a nice little mini-game.

You know, it would be funny if there was a glitch with the playoff beards and they continued to grow during the next season in franchise.... Everyone would be skating around looking like Grizzly Adams, that'd be awesome!

Have anybody heard anything about historic teams? Are those still with game? That's for me one big reason to buy 2K when you can play with old legends.
