i remember watching that fight live of boxing after dark. i thought it was going to a decision them, boom, its ova oba. love that ko!! was my first de la hoya fight to watch n i got a man crush on him and eventually got to fly to vegas a couple years ago and watched him dismantle el matador live in person. man the crowd was electric that night. it must have been a 95/05 split on the fans. people who cheered for mayorga soon stopped cause the crowd was very frisky that night and i heard women speaking things i wouldnt repeat to neone who wispered a cheer for mayorga. the best thing about that night besides the kd in the first minute of the first round was a guy getting drunk and kicked out of the arena right before the main event. i remember that my seat was 375 and i was mid level at mgm. this guy was in the nose bleeds but unless he was from vegas, he probably blew a few grand like everyone else who flew in, only he didnt get to see the fight. what a maroon!!!<----yes maroon, like bugs said my ninja

even tho u were being a smart a** i do agree dlh had his hands full with a way bigger hopkins...but lets say they would of met at 147 dlh would have destroyed b hop easy!jus look at the first half of the fight dlh was giving him a boxing lesson...not to take any credit from hopkins but at 147 we would have seen a different bout...

lol....im a huge delahoya fan myself, but lets leave hopkins out of this one. OSCAR respects BOXING (skill boxing) & he's now a fan of hopkins. Oscar is a legend in the game (i still feel he beat floyd). Like hopkins he just got jerked off to much by corrupt judges.

The best left hook ever thrown by Oscar was the one he hit Mayorga with in the first round. Mayorga looked like he was trying to play twister or immitating a pretzel, I'm not sure. Either way it was perfect.

i totally agree with you shadio..if you look at it dlh hasnt really ever been beatin with the exception of the hopkins fight which imo shoulda never happend..it just shows you dlh has never ducked anyone and is not scarred of any fighter that comes his way(unlike mayweather)i have de la hoya's professional record at 41-2-1...

Now i know your lack of boxing knowledge. Hahaha, you appreciate a fighter that throws so much punches in flurries which most of them missed instead of the other fighter throwing less but on point on most of his punches.
You call yourself a fan of boxing ? Know the sport or just maybe you wanted deep down to see mayweather fall , it will never happen but please change your view of boxing cause its disgusting to read that anybody think DLH won this fight.
If he would of jabbed more and actually landed those flurries then yes but until then , PBF won very easily

The Mayweather vs. De La Hoya fight was a close fight in my opinion in that I felt that De La Hoya took the early rounds and Mayweather took the late rounds. I can see the fight going either way because Oscar's aggression won him early and Mayweather's counterpunching won him the late rounds. That being said, I put Oscar above Mayweather in the all time catagory simply because Oscar fought the best and beat a lot of very good to great fighters (Chavez, Whitaker, Hernandez, Quartey, Vargas, etc.). Mayweather is undefeated and has beaten some good fighters (Hernandez, Gatti, Hatton), beat three very good fighters (Corrales, Castillo, Judah), and beat one great fighter (De La Hoya). I guess in my opinion, it means more to fight the very best in the world than to only occasionally take on the best, so that is why I rank De La Hoya above Mayweather. Now, if Mayweather comes out of retirement, fights and beats Margarito then I will have to place Mayweather higher on the list.
