So with the combination of the first looks from IGN and E3, and the lack of information 2k has been offering, I must say as a loyal 2k'er; it doens't look good. Yes it's premature, but look at this info from an 09 forum. I know it’s all marketing, but seriously what the hell is 2ksports doing in their free time? I’ll definitely be buying both games; but for a month before releases, it’s unfortunate, but EA looks a lot better. The blogs written on 09 also are focused on realism; and when you compare that to the E3 “our main concern is to make the game fun”, and zamboni races and a new beard for Crosby......
Anyhow the thread is here; hope this year isnt the year I move to EA.

Yeah, i agree. 2K is a little too quiet right now. We need more info and screens. They need to get us exicited about this game right now!

What you mean you hope this isn't the year you move to EA?It's not about the company making the game,it's about who puts out the better game.Look,I love 2K and was quite loyal to them all the way though 2K7 while EA struggled to release a decent hockey game.Ea's 07,was a decent foundation, but really weak overall compared to 2K7.08 showed quite an improvement for EA and really drew me in.Not that it doesn't have its issues, but it's definately a solid hockey game and very fun.
2K8 had some cool improvements such as the Goalies, the Faceoffs, and even the Pro Stick, but the gameplay took a dive really. From the two speed bursts to the over aggressive AI on D,but also the Skating didn't feel as silky smooth as on 2K7 and the AI on both sides was worse as well.Seriously if VC took the Goalies, the Faceoffs, and the ProStick, along with the depth from 2K8 and added them to 2K7,they would have an awesome hockey game.Oh and lose the cinemotion and fog in 2K7 and the extra speed burst as well.
Really what it boils down to,is EA markets the heck out of their games. Most since going next gen, despite ALL the hype, have been crap. The NHL series though seems to have a very dedicated bunch of developers,to bringing us a realistic hockey game. This is the one EA game,I truely have faith in this year.Take Two needs to find a way to better market their games if they really want to draw people in.Still it's not the name that makes the game that matters,it's the game itself and until we play both, only then will we know which we prefer.

I mean that I've been a loyal 2K'er for a long time, and EA's games have generally been garbage. 08 was a good game, though with sliders adjusted I preferred 2K8. I fully intend to purchase both games, but from the marketing efforts and information released (though minimal) by neutral parties, 09 certainly has an early edge. Granted it is all speculation until the games are out; just have a feeling EA is going to wipe the floor with 2K this year.

keep in mind guys, it comes down to money also. ea has the money to puchase LOTS of "good press". when 2k first came out on dreamcast, i dont remember hearing ANYTHING about it. i just happened to have a dreamcast and saw 2k as the only hockey. ive been hooked ever since. let the gameplay/demos play for itself.
