The previews make the game look fantastic thought it seems as though they are playing catch-up to EA's game now. Believe it or not though, my reason for favouring 2k9 over 09 this year is mostly because of the controls. I LOVE ProStick. 09 has the online Be a Pro mode that may sway me the other way though ....

My Comments :

Advantages.. : Better Graphic's, Improved Hits, Better Skating engine.. more flow in the skaters skating, Sounds Efx. are more realistic, Better Comentaring ,6vs6 online ... The pass seems more quicker than the old 2k8, Dumping Seems better, Goalies dont seem to overskate, 4 vs 4 Pond Hockey, Better Replays, Some more Deking, over the head deke

Disadvantages : One-Timer nightmatre.. one timer goals seem to be beating the goalies to much.. hope it not a 2k7 repeat, After the goals... the goalies are glitching front and back.. and the players are moving into the boards, Shots are way to quick for the goalies... Goalies are in to deep.. not challenging enough.. they basiallly made the goalies like 2k7 but with a couple of a goalies technical movement

Well, many of those disadvantages may be because the default level is set to pro, and many previews don't change settings from default. The preview did state that the default level was easier than 2K8's pro level, but much tougher when raised higher,

There is a preview up on teamxbox.com as well that is a little more detailed than the IGN one. It also has high-definition videos up for all to see.

And you don't post the link? That's not very good.

Well, here is that link: Team XBox Link (http://previews.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/2079/NHL-09/p1/)

And here is a link to Gamespot's XBox 360 preview: GameSpot Link (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/sports/nhl2k9/news.html?sid=6195708&om_act=convert&om_clk=newlyadded&tag=newlyadded;title;1)

I guess my old computer isn't advanced enough to access the movie but it sounds pretty slick. Maybe this season will be a decent one for on-line hockey after all,

I'd have to admit 2k9 looks better than i expected. My only real complaints so far is that checking still looks to be way too frequent, it seems to be the only way the ai controlled defense will try to get the puck from you. Other than that it looks like the old 2k i used to love with some pretty flashy presentation and graphics upgrades.

I never actually heard any san jose commentary so i hope they can do a better job than what the play by play/commentary has been over the past couple seasons in 2k. Any san jose fans have anything to say?

Yes I am San Jose fan ! I love the game MENUS , There are two different videos on background ! I am playing EA MADDEN 09 now which has nice presentations and menus ....but NHL 2k9 (NBA 2k9 too) menu is the nicest menu of the sport games if I compare!

I just had my first listen to the commentary in 2k9 and i can honestly say it's laughable at best. If you disagree with me go play the nhl 08 demo and compare. The crowds reactions are still off too, someone got checked on the away team and the arena went from absolutely dead silent to a screaming roar in less than a second and then died down 3 seconds later. I hope to god they work on this before the game is released.

Meh, it's VC's first hockey game in over a decade. They've always been a gameplay first development team, and if there was something that this series needs, is a gameplay first vision.

I saw the video of penguins intro, and the intro is like a real hockey games intro with the slideshow on the ice, but im not just buying a game for that, and gameplay wise it doesnt quite look up to par to what EA is giving out, but im still pumped for 2k9

The thing with commentary for a game is most of the time they are reading from a script and trying to act like they are really into a game. It can be tough to do if you've never done it before. These aren't professional voice actors who are great at putting themselves "into the moment". It usually takes a commentary team a couple years of recording to finally put themselves into that moment. I mean, the knowledge of the game still comes through, but not the excitement in the voice all the time.

I noticed while watching a video of the latest Madden game is that they let the color guy ad lib a bunch of stuff so it sounds more natural. But if you listen to the play by play guy, he sounds quite robotic, and it was his first game doing commentary on, too. That's one of the things that makes 2K's football games' announcers so good is that they are professional voice actors. They are able to put themselves into the moment and not sound so robotic. They actually sound excited at times. You also can start to hear excitement in announcers' voices after they have done it for a couple years. So, if they keep these guys for a couple years, the commentary they provide should improve.

It's not so much the delivering of the lines it's things like simply stating a players name and not what they're doing. For example Crosby had the puck behind the net and was skating it out of his own zone when the play by play simply stated "Crosby." It would be nice to hear "Crosby with the puck" or something like that.

The only other thing was the sync up of the crowds reactions like i said before, it just didnt sound like i was listening to a hockey game or any sporting event for that matter. 2k8 was like that too, you'd score a goal and half the time there was no reaction from the crowd at all.

I along with almost anyone would agree that these are only details of a game and are not as important as things like gameplay and solid controls BUT details like crowd reactions are things that make the game feel so much more realistic, in a real nhl game crowds are incredibly important for swinging momentum for the home team.

PS Does anyone know if they fixed the stupid tucked in jersey glitch from last year? That's another detail that for some reason nhl 2k doesnt care about =/

I don't know if they fixed the glitch or not, but if you watch the video where Detroit scores, Franzen (i think) has his jersey tucked in during the play. But during the replay and the celebration afterwards, it's only half-tucked. Kinda strange, as it didn't look like anything happened to mess with the jersey. Maybe it'll show that at least some jerseys will be tucked in. Who knows.

If those are the best announcers I would hate to here the worst.
Actually I would like to see Jim Hughson Return to play by play.

I got tired of him after so many years with EA. However You just don't know what you had until it is gone.
Bring Jim over to the dark side for 2k10

Me being a leaf fan, I was pretty happy with Harry Neal and Bob Cole but I think the series needed to change it up. The commentary for 2K9 sounds pretty good so far.
