So everyone has been eager to get a handful of screens and gameplay from 2k and we got them.. and they look great. Ill just point out the things ive noticed and liked about the game and hopefully you can comment and expand on them.

*The Presentation - The overall game looks alot more fresh. They player models are sharper, the crowd is actually into the game, as they start stand up and cheering, the ice looks like ice, the dump and line changes are alot cleaner, and the skating is way more slick (looks similiar to EA's version with the cross skating). The pre game intro for the Pens was sick, I cant wait to see my Oilers intro. Plus they are suppose to have intermission and game summaries which will be interesting. EA no longer has such an advantage in this area anymore.

*The Hitting - finally there looks to be realistic collisions and hitting. This is wayyyy better then previous years when every hit was a bulldozer hit. Id imagine they actually take into effect who is hitting who. In one vid, Svatos gets rolled over twice in a row haha. Overall, i like how there is more bumping around and losing balance rather than falling right on their asses. Also in a couple screens, the players were picking up their sticks.

*The Audio - Im happy to see new commentators, although i dont know much about them since they are from San Jose, that aspect of the game was a much needed change. The in game FX sound great... the way the puck rips off the boards and glass, the sound of the players shooting, and the cuts from the skating and the contact all sounds updated.

*The Control Scheme - I won't go back to using face buttons, but thats fine if other people do as long as each scheme has no certain advantages over eachother. The other options are pro stick evolution and pro stick hybrid. We will learn more later but im sure everyone will find which controls comfort them the most.

*The Special Attributes - I also play the NBA 2k series and in that game players have small logos by their name.. such as a Star, a 3 point shooter, good defender, speed. I see they brought that over to NHL. This is great because it seems like all players were starting to be able to do everything the same... anyone could maul down whoever they wanted despite size.. anyone could snipe like ovechkin. It seems VC puts emphasis on certain players having outstanding skills like they do in reality. Crosby is the star and can do amazing things.. Gonchars got the good skating like the puck moving d he is, Orpiks got the hard hits like the shut down d he is, they give Satan a shot but thats suspect if he deserves it.. nevertheless those things are in there and it will cause advantages and disadvantages as to who is on the ice.

As long as when we play the game and notice nice gameplay this game will be amazing and way more than anyone expected by the sound of it.
Anyways thats my speal.. what do u have to think?

I am going to be playing this one this year. I dont really have a hockey team, but since i live in Central/Northern Cali, i may have to go with the Sharks. I have no clue if they are good though. hah Maybe this can get me into hockey who knows.

I agree with everything you said Garritty. I really noticed the sound effects alot more like when the puck hits the glass , it sounds so realistic. The ice looks amazing and the player models are the best 2K has ever produced. Thumbs up so far.

I think 2k is way ahead of EA when it comes to Presentation, AI, Stats and Menus
However, when it comes to Graphics and Realism of the game, they need to shape it up this year. But most importantly they need to work on the controls and fix the freezing issues. If they do that, we're in for a good treat.
I have this feeling that we will have TWO great hockey games this year.

Yes Sim and Fun sounds good to me I only hope they didnt mess with the Goalie AI and player graphics ?
All these new sports games without sliders ect are so boring almost scripted have little or no fun like they did in the old days .

SaintPat, the old days were FUN dude,,,, those were the times where all that mattered was FUN ,.,,, no need for HD graphics, sliders, online or even CPU AI..... it was just plain fun to pop in NHL 94 on Genesis and play a tournamanet with bunch of college buddies.....
We are so spoiled these days,,,thats for sure,,, and Videgame Hockey has come a LONG way,,,,and its brought many good features with it,,,,and it sure makes it fun to play online and be able to adjust everything these days,,,,But the problem we have now is that people botch no matter what..... which in a way could be a good thing cause it helps the developers push the bars.....
Great to have 2 great hockey games in the horizon, but dont ever , EVER say the old days were NO FUN,,,, cause they were!

Yeah I had alot great memories of the old games. Nhl 90 was great as well as 94. Blades of Steel was another sick game. It's amazing to look at Blades and than 2K9 and see just how far hockey games have come.

You said it ! I was just trying to explain this to some haters at OS and
I used MLB The Show 08 as an example being it was a near perfect sim game that I just played for 6 months and liked it very much but I explained even though it was everything I ever wanted I still had more fun playing MLB 2k7 from last year.
Why because it was Fun but still a decent sim yes I said fun !
At that point why do they even play games just watch TV .
These so called hockey fans are nuts as they actually tweak sliders more than they play I dont even think they enjoy the games.
Even if they just played a great game and won 3-2 but shots were 50-45 not real enough so it wrecked the whole experience lol.
For a fix I play goal 4 days a week on real ice but for video games I had the most fun with NHL 93 -98 and NHL 2k3 man my thumbs were sore .
So take care and you have the right attiude about sports video games
