Here is my plan, i hope this helps you.

I've been a 2k fan since 2ky but last year has made me doubt my choices of 2k over EA. So, this year i'm going to go to wal-mart or circuit city or whoever has a return policy i like and i'm going to buy Nhl 09. If these last 9 years i was right and EA sucks and i cant stand to live without my 2k i'm going to return Nhl 09 and pick up 2k9. I'm almost positive circuit city has some sort of no hassle return policy so if you have one near you why not try this out?

Only works for the same game i believe. Once you open the game your SoL.

I will obviously be playing NHL2K. I havent played video game hockey in years talking about 10 plus years here. So it should be interesting for me this year.

I know that's true for EB and Gamestop but it's not like that everywhere. I'm going to do some heavy research about return policies. This year i am NOT wasting 60 dollars. I'm on a mission to get the better nhl game without having to trade the other in.

All you have to do is wait a day or 2 and you will know.

Wal Mart only allows exchanges for the same game(it's a piracy thing). At least the Wal-Mart I work does.

Yeah. Many stores will only exchange for the same game, unless you can make a big enough fuss to have them cave in to you, but that's not likely.

Renting both is a good option, that way you can get hands on with both. You can also play each demo once they are out. Reading reviews will give you a good idea, but don't let reviews be the only factor. I have a feeling that this year, you won't go wrong with either game, as each are looking quite good.

Both games look great this year but after experiencing the very very very unfair AI in NHL 08, I'm sticking to 2k9 this year. As I said before, there's such a thing as an AI that learns and adapts to the way that you play and then there's an AI that will suddenly be able to score from the middle of nowhere if you're in the lead. EA's AI is more like the latter and I consider that completely unfair and idiotic.

Well if you want a game where the cpu scores whenever it needs a goal and beats you unfairly than stick with EA, but if you want a challenging, fun, sim hockey experience than go with 2k9. 2K hits back hard this year!

As someone wise toled you earlier , wait till the games are out and rent them, unless you want some fanboy suggestions from someone like joker07 :)

Last years 2k was a total disappointment, but Im hoping they will come back this year and own the rink. I will probably end up getting both. EA 09 for my PS3 and 2k9 for the 360.

Oh Yeah, 2K9 for sure. I've preferred 2K for last 3 years.

just incase anyone wants to see hears a interview with David littman talking about the 6vs 6 online in 09
the graphics and gameplay look exactly like 08, and didnt see him use any new moves like the one handed deeke or anything

The same could be said about 2K9,because honestly gameplay wise,it looks the exact same as previous. However, someone once said, never judge a book by its cover.I know alot of us do(even myself sometimes),but I think the best thing to do is RENT each game and decide from there.Don't decide by playing the demo, because a demo is just a sample and since sports games usually require some tweaking of settings and such,a sample is hardly accurate.

Well I bought last year EA's NHL 08 on the PS3 and it was a complete dissapointment because of lack of features and other stuff and if they didn't do a big adjustment in this years version, its not worse of buying but finally your the person who will have to decide and choose the best.

Its gonna be really tough this year. Really tough to choose, they have that like MMORPG thing goin on with EA this year. Sounds pretty sweet, i'll still go to whatever game is the most sim. Last year even with all the bugs is was 2k8, without a question, i was almost fooled by EA's animation. I'll rent EA first again this year and see, then rent 2k which i'm sure will not be rentable for like a month after it comes out like last year.

i've been a big 2k fan since 2k5.. last year's effort was wayyyy too complex. sounds like it's been corrected this year, but i'm concerned about

(1) the buyout by EA - will it make the 2K game obselete?

(2) 2K's Wii effort - is that going to detract from the focus on PS3 / 360?

(3) There seems to be this huge push by everyone to go EA... so when I'm online looking for a game, am I going to be the only one there.

Also, is there a similar "be a pro" mode on 2K? I really like that idea.

Go Jackets! ...and 2K did have the great taste of putting Nasher on their cover.

1. I believe EA just dropped their takeover bid.
2. I hope not, but there'll be accusations thrown around regardless of the truth.
3. I'll be online. I've never been unable to at least find a quick match, also.

As for an answer to online BaP, 2K9 will have online stat-tracking based on positions through their 6v6 online mode. Not quite the same, but players will still be ranked by their play at each position.

EA dropped their tender offer because they feel they won't be able to take in enough shareholders before the holidays.Take Two is going to do a "Management Presentation" to EA after waivers are signed. This to try to prove to EA they are worth more than what EA was offering.I expect the two will hammer something out before the end of the year as it appears Take Two wants some sort of merger.

Highly recommend trying out the demos when you can, I like to be objective about both titles until proven wrong. If you don't have a console maybe a friend can let you hop on theirs to try out both titles.

I think many Hockey fans are passionate about their Hockey, and when they choose a title this reflects that personal passion, but it's all about what is fun for you.

Also be sure to look out for game/franchise ending bugs reported by folks on the forums, and make sure you go with a title that patches their product and offers regular roster updates.
