Just wanted to get some thoughts on this. I think they would make the perfect judge. The only thing that I can think of that may be negative is if they favor a certain style, but don't judges do that now anyway.
Thoughts.......?

It is a good thought. I mean who knows boxing better than someone who once faught? The only problem I see with a former fighter becoming a judge is that they might favor a fighters style because maybe it resembles theirs, and not scoring the fight properly.

Retired boxers would probably be more knowledgeable than most current judges... many, if not most, boxing judges have never even boxed in their lives, and the qualifications and training necessary to become a ring judge, depending on the organization and the state, can sometimes be poorly regulated.
That being said, I don't know if retired boxers with little to no formal training as a ring official can be as objective as properly certified and trained judges. As korey1980 already mentioned, boxers might be biased towards styles that they themselves used when they were fighters or their past experience with the politics inside and outside of the ring with promoters, trainers, and other fighters might affect how they call a fight.
