For some reason, I can't seem to figure out how to hit a first serve. I have a PS3, and anytime I try to hit a first serve using power (R2) or accuracy (L2), I hit faults. Am I supposed to hold L2 or R2 down the entire time? Only during the time I'm holding teh circle, square or "x" button down (i.e., until the ball is at its highest point)? I try using the left directional stick to point down, but if I pull it down too soon, the ball goes into the net, and if I wait too long to pull it down, it goes long. I MUST be doing something wrong...someone, please help.

Using risk shots on servers (the L2 and R2 buttons) means you have to have great timing on your serve. If your timing isn't near perfect, then you will fault. It doesn't matter how long you hold either of those buttons. I believe that as long as you have the button held before starting your serve, it will be a risk shot.
As for aiming, the longer you hold the direction, the further the aim. So, if you do aim down and press the stick down and hold it while you go thru your entire serve motion, then it will most likely hit the net. I try to aim after the ball has been tossed up, and I do pretty good with that.
I really dove into this game over the weekend, and it took me a couple hours to get used to all the controls. I went through all the training parts to help me out, then it still took a couple matches to get it right, but now I feel pretty good about the controls. They take time to learn, but you should really enjoy it after you do learn them.
