I don't understand - the company stated this time last year that they hoped this game would be a "bi-yearly franchise". We're through year 1. We just have to wait it out. That said - I'm ashamed to see how many people from these forums gladly plunked down $60 to get EA's piece of garbage. My friends list was full of people playing it to day, and every last one of them claims they "hate Madden". Then why spend money on it? :(

Some people just have to have their NFL license, and can't have fun without it I guess.

I've been playing the 2K series since it came out on the Dreamcast. But I did go today and purchase Madden 09. The game isn't awful but doesn't feel as smooth as APF or 2K5 did. The presentation is descent but you never feel any emotion from the commentators or even the crowd. It can get a little boring.

It's hard to play the same football game for two years when you got EA shoving Madden down our throats. Plus that's unofficial, nobody knows in 2k will even make another football game.

2k has bending over for them...

im not playing the same football game for over a year need something new...

2k nice run, if I wanna play a legends game I can just use the NFL Greats on Madden that actually has more Legends then ur LEGENDS game...

Madden 09 is crap. Just played it tonight at my cousin's house. The gameplay to me is still slower than it should be and it just feels boring. You don't get that REAL feeling like you do in APF 2K8. The crowd in Madden is a joke and even though they have the NFL license APF feels much more like a real game than Madden ever would. Plus Tom Hammond's commentary is comical! He sounds a like a monster at times and that's bad for a next-gen game. I admit that Chris Collinsworth is pretty good though, but the gameplay just doesn't cut it for me. There's just something missing with EA games, that WOW factor just isn't there with their games like most of 2K's. My advice is don't waste $60 bones on Madden 09, and everybody write or call 2K and DEMAND an APF 2K9!!! Madden is garbage!!

I bought it because it is an improvement over previous titles. Do I think it measures up to APF? Not in game play but in everything else it it was beyond APF. There online league are pretty good and allows more flexibility for the league admin. They do need to fix the amount of game you have to play in a league game though but.... I am in a league that started today and had a fantasy draft in the league and it worked great! You pre rank your players like fantasy football and it picks your players by your player ranking and position you wanted. I think the thing I like the most about Madden compared to APF is all the adjustments you can do pre snap.

I have said many times EA sucks and so does Madden because they never put forth the effort to improve there game but this years is better than the previous and if it wasnt I would not be playing it.

But at the end of the day GAMEPLAY is what's most important to me. They can have all the other bells and whistles they want but if the gameplay is subpar then it doesn't matter. I know APF was barebones as far as a franchise or multi-season mode but i still enjoy putting different teams together and playing it a YEAR later. Hell i'm STILL seeing animations that i hadn't previously seen even though i've been playing the game for a year. That's why i want them to make another APF so bad and add more legends and a franchise/multi-season mode and improve on the gameplay and animations even more. C'mon 2K!! Make a sequel! Your fans want one!!!!

yeah, madden 09 is better than 08. so what, its not hard to improve on garbage. the sole reason i bought madden was for graphics and franchise. i was hoping the UBER KEWL MADDEN GRAFIX would be enough to keep my mind of the horrid gameplay, but it cant. when the giants uniforms are baby blue, i just cant take it. when the field looks like its sequined, i cant take it. when franchise mode is more bland than 2ks season mode, i cant take it.

within 10 minutes i went back to all pro. too bad im down 60 dollars now. maybe ill trade it in for halo 3 or something

Plays worse, I can agree with, but not looks worse. The new Madden looks great. The grass, the stadiums, the textures, and the lighting are all really good. It honestly doesnt even matter. how deep EA's pockets are, they will just keep throwing money at EA. Its over for NFL gaming. Even if they make a crappy game. As long as they keep throwing money they will keep the exclusive. In all honesty dont expect another NFL football game until at least 2015-2016 outside of EA. Its over no matter what the hardcore gamers due. Casual gamers> Hardcore gamers.

The fight in all honesty is over. We just have to hope 2K can make a fully customizable game.

Wow. Now that is a loser's attitude. No offense.

I just played the demo. I absolutely do not get how anybody can say the graphics are so great?!? It makes no sense. They'd look great if it was a PS2 game (which it is). APF is so much better looking. . That's all there is to it. There's not an APF bias here. I'd like another awesome NFL game to play. But APF looks better and plays better. Who cares about EA , the NFL is the one you should be boycotting , not watching games but a total boycott on any licensed NFL gear has been in full force at my house ever since the NFL as a league decided it's consumers are not worthy of quality NFL products and all they care about is money

The NFL only cared about a big fat chunk of change and has no regards for the people who buy thier products at all.

And even as the *******ized NHL league games have now surpassed EA football in quality by a mile the NFL still goes and extends the deal after 3 years of absolutely unplayable trash from Madden to anyone but the most simple minded NFL fans.

The NFL is my favorite sport by far but I will watch the games and thats it .

Here is my Madden review on the PS3 forum as a 25 year + EA consumer. Of course I am called a hater and what not but it is my honest opinion of EA, Madden 09 and the comparison to All-Pro which is incomparable honestly:

Well Ea has done it again and this game may look prettier but it sucks goat balls. Superstar is still borked when testing for draft it is the same whether you ace or fail; Patriots or worse team in the league. **bleep** is up with the game speed? It feels like the game disc dropped a case of jolt before I put it in. **bleep** is up with the dwarf players? I feel like I am playing midget football. 08 looked way better in this regard. Everywhere I look now there is a icon telling me something. I don't need to be told when to **bleep**ing sprint EA. What is up with the IQ system? What a terrible mess it is and we are better off playing the standard pro, All Pro all madden etc.. On the sidelines its the same old BS and in the stands its the same paper doll X5 next to each other pulling the same old AI. My first franchise game locked up. Imagine that yet another EA title locks my system up. WTG EA keep bringing that top notch development to your dedicated consumers...

BTW I own a top of the line 50" plasma and when I switch out Madden with 2K8, 2K8 blows it the **bleep** away. Anybody who says MAdden is better than 2K8 needs to remove their lips from EA's ball sack. Next move, my neighbor, yes my neighbor and I carried over his 50" plasma and we demoed Madden and 2K8 side by side. 2K8 kills MAdden on all levels. The graphics are 1080, the players look real, the stadiums are magnificent, the hits are devastating, the play is the best sim game out, the sidelines are incredible, the cheerleaders look great, etc.. Etc.. Etc.. If 2K8 was able to make a NFL licensed game they would destroy EA period. EA I am sick of your half assed craptastic excuse of a game every year. You are so lucky you own the NFL license and all the fan boys continue to leech your nipple like starving third world children. If you lose that license in 2010, you are done. Matter of fact, BackBreaker is going to eat you alive!

Now flame on fan boys. I have supported EA for over 25 years when most of you clowns were still in diapers. They used to be a great developer but the last ten years are absolute garbage. You can keep your borked hockey BS too 2k9 hockey is out next month and that is going to put NHL to shame. I am done with you EA even though you don't read these boards let alone your own.

another note, the offensive line ai in madden doesnt exist. you cant run the ball. telling runningbacks to block the right side, then sliding prtectionto the right side, results in blockers just shuffling around and watching defenders run by.

glitches occur when ea tries to show some of their broadcast presentation, which cost me a game because 20 seconds ran off the clock while the game was somewhat frozen and i couldnt call a timeout.

I actually like Madden this year. Sorry but I'm a die hard Vikings fan, if this game wanted to keep me interested for two years then they would have given me a game of legends that I could build 22 players out of because I'm a die hard football fan and having generics out there really spoils the fun. APF would be perfect if:

22 players, 11 legends
The rest of your team? Former NFL favorite voted by fans along with busts etc...Your Brian Bosworths, Andre Ware, fan favorites of just players that made an impact but weren't legends by any means.

Otherwise you know what would have kept me interested? Eliminating the overpowered offenses...Add more picks, don't baby some idiot online just because they throw right to my guy on numerous occasions. If someone can't read a defense that's their own damn fault. Not to mention gold offensive players>>>>>>>>>>gold defensive players. Legend offensive lineman? Worthless, despite the fact offensive lineman are arguably the most important unit of an offense. Broken routes, how about make other routes worthwhile instead of a select few in this game. Difficult to play a conservative offense when short throws are actually much more dangerous then a 10 yard out route or a post up the middle? Bit ridiculous. Run reader? Broken. MLBs? Not nearly as good as they are in real life along with the rest of the defensive players. How about some balanced players? Why should I be penalized for being different because I don't want Earl Campbell, Len Barney, Don Maynard, Randall Cunningham...well you get the idea. BALANCED ABILITIES system should have been in place as best as possible. Did I mention DTs are also pretty worthless? Don't get me wrong guys, but Madden has plenty of issues, but 2k would have had to fix these problems in order for me to forego an NFL liscense and not want to draft my Buckeyes to my Vikings but the fact is it has it's many flaws too, perhaps not as many as Madden, but not enough to compensate for NFL features. Just my .02...

An underappreciated feature I LOVE in Madden. As a Vikings fan we have the best offensive line in the NFL. Yeah well Madden lets me take control of Steve Hutchinson or Bryant McKinnie right in the action. Turn on the zoomed in camera and I'm Steve Hutchinson going up against Tommie Harris laying out a block. Then the game instantly switches back to Adrian Peterson where I hit the hole I just made. Really fun!

Online=APF
CPU/Franchise/Using my NCAA drafts=Madden.

The wii version plays the best football out of all of them. I own both: Ive played about a half dozen games of the wii version and have played the 360 version only once so far.

They took a rather novel concept <sarcasm>: they kept the basic game engine from 2005-2006, which was when Madden was at its peak, and fleshed out the game around that and tailored it to the wii system.

Why EA chose the rebuild from scratch route on the 360 and PS3, and then tried to con people about the new and exclusive features that are mearly old features from past gen; ripped away from us, is really beyond me.

The wii version plays clean as whistle, and gives you as much or as little control over the action as your heart desires. You can make every type of in game adjustment that you would expect to be able to make. People ignore it because of the wonky controler (which I can understand) and the fact that they love their glossy High-Def graphics (nothing wrong with that either)

As far as APF goes; honestly, I can only play the same group of people online, who all play more or less the same exact way, game in and game out, so many times. That's basically what the APF community has come down to. A group of guys, who more or less play each other all of the time exclusively.

I simply lost the motivation to play the game.

I'm sure I'm going to pop it in again, but sometimes a game just reaches its shelf life.

It really isnt any more complicated then that.

NY KIA is right............same people in the same leagues...there is nothing wrong with it but after awhile it becomes a chore to play games.....it gets tiring not hearing anything from 2K.

I bought the Madden Collector's Edition early and honestly I have been playing WAY more NFL Head Coach than Madden (Mainly b/c my net is out right now so I cant get the roster update) the ability to simulate the draft pick by pick in real time is amazing. Madden is better this year as well but I am having way too much fun trying to build back up the Niners in Head Coach

For me its to the point where I pray that I make it through an XBOX LIVE session without someone asking me to play an APF league game

Dont get me wrong, I love 2K in general, especially Basketball but its just blind loyalty to hope for anything with them

The 2K Football franchise is sinking like the Titanic and we already know who will be assuming the roles of Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet on the top of the stern as it plummets into the abyss.....Gunther and Numbski...maybe even Valdarez

I applaud you guys for sticking up for 2K Football but everyday die hard 2K guys are jumping off the Titanic and swimming for the safety ship that is Madden

I got on this morning and there were 8 guys in the lobby and after a couple weeks anyone with a brain that likes online play will be back. Madden can have all the faux franchise dweebs .

Oh joy in season 4 I took the buffalo bills to the fake superbowl with 4 fake first round draft picks. Yippeee!

With nba 2k9 coming out soon with 5 on 5 online play I think Ill be playing a lot of that as well. No time to relearn football so I can try and enjoy a game that isnt worth a shift anyway.
Love those madden player models ROFLMAO

You're absolutely right. Madden isn't worth a shift. Just stay put. :)

(I see what you did there, btw - quit bypassing the profanity filter.)

Starting to see why i dont purchase EA games all that often. The running game in this game is atrocious and thats putting it lightly. Doesnt matter if yoru guy is rated 75 or 95 as a running back. As long as he has some kind of speed, the only way to get runs is to break to the outside and turn the corner and use the blazing speed. lol

Going to give it about 4-5 more days, if i cant find any constancy in running the ball with one of the highest rated running backs in the game, i am going to see if i can trade it in straight up for Uncharted. lol

No you can get 3 or 4 yards a pop if you run that craptastic FB up the gut play that every single person runs about 8 times a game.

I don't understand - the company stated this time last year that they hoped this game would be a "bi-yearly franchise"

well thats true but if they were really serious about this game and wanted it to go somewhere they would have pulled all the stops marketed this game for more people to see it and actually BUY the game. And also maybe sending out a bareboned game and popping off $60 for it. They delt their own hand whether people want to believe that or not.

We're through year 1. We just have to wait it out. That said - I'm ashamed to see how many people from these forums gladly plunked down $60 to get EA's piece of garbage. My friends list was full of people playing it to day, and every last one of them claims they "hate Madden". Then why spend money on it? :(

Because Numbski, life goes on. I would not be ashamed I would understand. But I can only speak for myself. I brought madden because they supplied what I wanted and guess what? they are the only football game out there, I really don't see 2k I really do not see midway with a quality game, I don't see microsoft. I for one am not scared to tell people what and why I brought this game. I am not complaining because as a consumer I'm in this for myself and what appeals to me. While I have said what I have said, I am right trust me I am not the type that backs down from what I have said in the past and I said if they put out there what I am interested in I am going after it and sure enough they did.

These companies(including 2k) are in for your money you are supposed to be in it for what you want. If you think 2k was thinking about you and not trying to get to the NFL attention. You are not telling yourself the truth there is no argument in this discussion because 2k had the chance to go all out last year and just say f' it and pull full customization instead they did not do that.

Some people just have to have their NFL license, and can't have fun without it I guess.

Numbski, again like I said before, life goes on. Even the "die hard" apf 2k8 like I was who was here before and after the apf era move on. Thats just life and that is how it works. No one is going to sit around, say they hate a NFL game but yet play with the Chicago Grizzlies with the same colors or Indiannapolis Stallions. It gets tiresome playing the same season over and over again. I don't know about you but I don't even know if I will live tommorow let alone in 09 to play a generic 2k football game. 2k needs to realize that if you want good sales and if you want to make moves, you got to take initative good baskeball titles and good football and hockey titles and baseball fell off with 2k8. they never take initative. No one waits forever.

so with that being said this is becoming more of a agenda then just seeing it for what it is. people have better things to do then wait for a company to play catch up.

My roommate got Madden on release day. I tried playing a game, "tried" being the key word there. I couldn't finish it. It just doesn't feel right and seems to lack "passion". It feels like a game that's just going through the motions, kind of like what you see when watching the pre-season games.

It's not a terrible game, it has improved over other Madden games, and I love the lighting. But I just can't see myself playing a good game when I own two games that are so much better than it. And until a game comes out that's better in the gameplay department (the most important area), then I can never justify myself spending $60 and settling for a merely good game. It doesn't matter if it's "new" and the only game out there. I'm perfectly happy playing my two great football games (one even with updated rosters) and will continue to play them until another great football game is released.
