Manny Pacquiao has decided to stay at lightweight and defend his WBC 135-lb crown after turning down an offer by Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) for a Dec. 6 fight in Las Vegas, lawyer Franklin Gacal said in a statement released early Thursday morning.
"I have been informed that Oscar De La Hoya is firm with the 70-30 revenue sharing and won't budge in to the 60-40 split we have counter-offered. I find the offer of GBP unconscionable hence unacceptable. It would have been an honor to fight De La Hoya on his last fight capping a very illustrious boxing career but under the circumstances, the option left is to move on.
I have already made specific instructions to my lawyer to start negotiating with Bob Arum for my next fight with any possible opponent at 135 lbs," said Pacquiao. Gacal said what Pacquiao wanted was a fair share of the mega fight and apparently, Oscar De La Hoya is making an offer that he knows is unacceptable," Gacal told fightnews.com.It is certain that Pacquiao will face Humberto Soto of Mexico sometime in November in Las Vegas.
I'm glad this fight didnt happend because Oscar should not be looking for a small oponent. I say give Margarito his shot for a huge pay day.

Here's the translation from the lawyer-speak:
"There was such a negative reaction from the boxing fan community about De La Hoya going out by fighting a man 3 weight divisions below his own that it looks like there won't be enough pay-per-view revenue from the fight to justify the 70-30 split for Pacquaio's camp. It looks like De La Hoya will have to fight a boxer closer to his own size if he wants to generate genuine interest and a decent PPV income from the fans."

Well then tell margarito to fight at 154 where DLH is at. I seriously doubt margo will move away from 147 knowing that he has a huge advantage against the smaller welters . He tried at 154 and before the stoppage he was still losing.
Only reason DLH would drop to 147 is to fight a smaller man but if margo really wants DLH , why doesnt he go to 154 ?

I'm glad this fight didn't get made. Oscar is going to have to find someone else and I don't think it's going to be Marg. Cotto/De la Hoya would be nice.

HUH? you want everyone to give may credit and "stop hating", but you come out with this ridiculous stuff about margo. You discredit the man highly bud. Are you a AM hater, like I am a FM hater?
If DLH fights AM, it will be at 154, guarantee. NO matter what weigh the fight is offered at, AM will take it. As for AM's previous fight at 154, it was a very close fight to that point, but i don't think anyone that has actually WATCHED the fight will say that Santos was doing great. In fact, AM was charging hard when the fight was stopped and the tide had turned for AM 100%. If the fight goes the distance, i would find it hard pressed to say that Santos would have won one more round the rest of the fight.
Let's be honest bud. Cmon. You know and I know, AM will go wherever DLH wants for this fight. ANYWHERE! please, quit discrediting AM already. He has not avoided anyone, he has not held his belt captive. He has not fought lesser opponents when better ones were there to fight. He has absolutely proved himself by fighting tough fights, which PBF refuses to do all of the above and you still wanna hate on AM.
So, cmon, don't hate just cause PBF was scarred to fight him.

Just wanted to add my two cents. Remember Margarito/Cintron II and Marg was waving his hands for Cintron to get up so he could hurt him more? If that doesn't make someone a Margartio fan than I don't know what will. I had 3 buddies over that night and 2 of them were pulling for Cintron. They left that night a fan of Margarito. I like De la Hoya and all, but no way does he take a Marg fight.

Humberto Soto is a better matchup for Pac, but not much better. Soto has some serious skill and can beat Manny. Soto reminds me of Margarito in some ways. He is a swarmer. I'm seeing an upset on the horizon, if this fight comes off.

Time for Oscar to step up and fight Margarito now. No excuses. A fight with Manny would've been ridiculous anyway and i'm glad it's not happening. If Wlad Klitschko was trying to get a fight with Joe Calzaghe the boxing public would be in an uproar. Same thing with Oscar and Pacquiao. He's 3 weight classes below Oscar. Oscar should be ashamed of himself for even considering such a match. Fight Maragrito already. I'm sure Margarito would have no problem moving to up 154 for a shot at Oscar.

A Margarito/De la Hoya fight would be great, but it looks like Oscar is trying to get a fight with Mora after he fights Forrest. I'm not so sure Mora gets by Forrest this time. So what is Oscar going to do if that falls through? I know Oscar is a warrior and all, but I wouldn't be too quick to step in with Margarito either.

If you're a true champion you're supposed to want the best challenges. Ray Leonard felt that he could beat Marvin Hagler when everyone else told him he'd get killed, but Ray being the true champion that he is, took the fight because he hungered for the challenge as real champions do. I'm not saying that Oscar isn't a true champ because he is, but this blatantly running from Magarito really makes him look bad in my eyes. Oscar has never ducked an opponent so why start now? He looks like a real coward trying to get a fight with a guy 3 weight classes below him when he got someone his own size ready and willing to fight and calling him out in Margarito. Oscar always prided himself on not ducking anyone and taking on all comers. Hell he even moved up to 160 and challenged the 10 year middleweight champ Bernard Hopkins and actually hung with B-Hop until the 9th round body shot. That's why i don't understand why he is so afraid of Margarito because he's never ducked anyone. Margarito is a good fighter but he does have losses, 5 to be exact, so we know he's not invincible, Paul Williams managed to beat him and Josh Clottey was beating him rather easily until he hurt both hands midway thru the bout. Did the beating he gave Cotto scare Oscar that much? If it did then he should just retire because he's gonna get crucified in the public if he fights anyone other than Margarito.

I read an article a couple years ago saying that Oscar had once brought Margo in as a sparring partner, and was sent home because he was doing he was doing a little more than a sparring partner should be capable of doing. I remember reading that Margarito was getting the best of Oscar in those "sparring" matches, and the result was that they sent Margo packing.

Hate to come off like I'm calling attention to myself (although I guess I am), but I called this happening on koery1980's Pacquiao vs. De La Hoya thread a few weeks ago:
Of course, this could all just be politics... it's not like anybody's signed any contracts yet and Sergio Mora is reportedly drawing interest from Oscar (I don't think Arum has even approached De La Hoya's camp to negotiate)... all the De La Hoya-Pacquiao rumours could just be a ploy to drive up the interest and the purse bid for next year's Hatton-Pacquiao fight (a fight that Pacquiao actually has a shot at winning, since they'll be fighting at junior welterweight and the size difference isn't too big).
Take that Dan Rafael! :rotfl:

No doubt. I hope the viper kicks Mora's ***, just so Oscar quits thinking about fighting another contender. Screw having a fight in December, just retire now Oscar. Does anyone honestly care to see Oscar fight again?

Personally I don't care to see Oscar fight again unless it's against Margarito. Look guys, I know some of you think Calzaghe-Jones, Pavlik-Hopkins and Oscar-anyone is great for boxing, but IMO it's not. These are entertaining matchups, but do nothing to keep the sport moving forward. This is exactly why I am glad Mayweather is gone. Jones, Oscar, and Hopkins are keeping other fights from being made now and possibly for good. These guys are going around trying to get any fight they can. Even if it means going up in weight class or down in three. Plus these other fighters like Calzaghe, Pavlik and Pacman are just seeing $$$. Making money is fine, but as a fan...........they are doing more harm than good.

Pavlik should've focused on disposing of Abraham before moving up in weight, regardless of whether its just for one fight.

 Couldn't agree more. Abraham should have been next. Then maybe 1 more fight against Castillejo or Sturm and then Calzaghe.
