Can't wait to see the first screens!!

So we are going to have Smash Court, Virtua Tennis, Top Spin, and now an EA tennis game. Hopefully all these companies really start to push each other.

Oh, and it sounds like Sampras will be in this game.

This really excites me as a huge tennis fan. Top Spin 3 is OK but not as good as i thought. Hopefully the EA game will take the challenge of being a tour player to a whole new level and it should be very realistic with respect to their simulation series for other sports. Above all else this should breed some great competition and really force the other tennis developers for SMASH COURT, VIRTUA, and TOP SPIN to take their next games more seriously. Great news.

Well, it'll certainly be interesting, that's for sure. EA already has more than its fair share of haters. I'm sure that regardless of how good their game ends up being, there'll be plenty of people complaining about it - y'know, like we have here...ha ha. :)

Hopefully they don't completely take over the tennis game market, though (and apparently they've already got exclusive rights to Wimbledon...bleh). Competition is good for gamers.

I'm all for one company taking over. As long as it is because their game blows everyone else's out of the water. But I'll pass on any of the hostile take overs, thank you.

I know many people hate EA, but Fight Night, Madden, and Tiger Woods are some of the best franchises out there, imho. If their tennis game is of the same caliber as these titles, I think there will be some very happy tennis fans in the near future. I for one cannot wait for the roster and first screens.

ea's will suck

It's coming out for Wii first, then the other systems. Do you really think it could be any worse than TS3 on Wii. That was terrible. I have played it a total of two hours since I bought it.

I doubt EA's tennis game will be great. But so far, nobody has come out with one tennis game that is far and away better than everyone else. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. I do expect them to have the best player models and animations though.

wow that is great news. Iīm sure they will macke a better game than Virtua Tennis and will be on top with top spin.

now all I want is 2k to make a soccer game. :(

I actually played Virtua Tennis last night. God I hate that game. Saying a sports game is "arcade" is, to me, saying it's not really a sports game at all. And online was terrible! I had forgotten about all the stupid diving. The player animations were good though. But that's it.

This is welcoming news; hopefully they base the game's flow and style on Smash Court 2. Wimbledon will be EA exclusive, I doubt there will be a Wimbledon download for TS3.

yes hate it too, but played it because there was no other tennis game on the markt on ps3.
but then sold it when I heard of top spin 3.

but what i was saying is that EA will probably make a game which is a good sim game and probably be the new challenger of top spin.

I donīt wanna say I donīt like EA games, they are okay but in my genres, thereīs always another game on no 1 spot.
Soccer games: 1. Pro Evo Soccer 2. Fifa
Basketball: 1.Nba 2K 2. NBA LIVE
And hopefully now they will be good competition for top spin with their first tennis game.
I confident about it and Iīm sure they will make a way better game than Sega (VT)

Not only did EA say they have exclusive rights to Wimbledon, they also said that they will be theirs will be the first tennis game in some time to feature all four slams. They also have dropped the following names: Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, Martina Nav., Chrissy Evert. Sorry, too lazy to look up spelling for Martina's last name.

The problem is that they are building the game on the Wii. The other consoles will get a game that is based off of Wii version. So hopefully the graphics don't suck.:(

The thing with EA though is that they're games always have a good season/superstar mode so hopefully this game will do the same. Wouldn't it be great to actually play a few years as a real tennis player and not a created char? As much as people hate EA, the only real complaint is "it's the same as last year". Well this is a whole new franchise so if it's as good as Madden and old NBA Live games, I won't be complaining at all.

Why did this thread get moved? It's a discussion about TS3's competition and to compare TS3 to EA's upcoming tennis title.

Nobody goes to "Tennis Discussion". Or was that the idea? Because I didn't see the "Smash Court in seven days" thread get moved.

Congratulations to EA. This sounds like they could be making a full proper tennis game. I don't believe that they make arcade sports games, so I expect it to be a sim. Hopefully it is not a port of the wii. It is a thrill that Sampras will be in it. He'll probably be using his new ProStaff racquet in the game.

LOL. I thought the same thing. Smash Court 3 still has mfil 200's and ncodes. Very weird.

So are we going to ready a petition for EA regarding the roster? Or do you think they'll actually see the need for themselves?

Yeah I think Pete's racquet is supposed to be revealed during the US Open.

I don't think we need a petition. I think most of these companies monitor each other's message boards (complaints, dislikes, etc..) I think we can send them a thank you letter for "providing us with another option, and hope that the forthcoming game will be worthwhile for us consumers. If you need any advice or suggestions, we will be happy to be of use in the development of a future purchase."

I think Smash Court 3 has those old racquets because it was probably developed right before the Kfactors came out. I don't have Xbox, but how does it play compared to Smash Court 2?

Solid game. The first time I played TS3 I thought I would be playing this game for ages. Well, I'm already done playing it( unless we get some DLC). Neither are even close to SCT2 though. I don't think anyone will do better than that. SCT3 is a decent game, but I still would rank TS3 ahead of it by a large margin. The sound is really sweet though...

Yeah, I already reverted back to Smash Court 2. I like defending my points and continuing my career. It will keep me going until EA's.

I think one of these developers should just swallow their pride, rip off SCT2, and update the graphics and roster.

The good thing about SC2 is you don't decide what shot you will hit until last minute. TS3 you pretty much have to hold the button down before the player makes contact if you want a powerful shot. I don't know what shot I am going to hit until it comes of my opponent's racket a lot of the time. A big part of tennis is making adjustments. It's crazy that someone nailed the feel of the sport so perfectly over five years ago. Then they go away from it with SCT3. Very odd.

I'm pretty sure when Madden and ESPN Football was going at each other they posted on a few neutral sports gaming sights they have people floating around on other forums.. but it would be good to know of a way to throw them some idea's in the early stages to let them see some idea's we have

well i hope it turns out ok for EA and there Tennis game, competition never hurt no one and only helps us gamers. its when one locks a sport down is when we kind of see some stagnation, no reason to make a longer lasting light bulb if your the only one making one, but there testing the waters to see if there is a market for them with this type of game, maybe there will be..

I hope EA releases a new tennis title every year now. With an updated roster to go with it. :D

leonidas1982
August 28th, 2008, 07:58 AM
I think for tennis, once every 3 years is okay, since there aren't any roster changes. If a new hot player comes along, then offer him/her as DLC. But then again, Tiger Woods Goolf comes out every year. And in it, one can create their own golf course; hopefully one will be able to design their own tennis courts -- for me: a fast low-bouncing grass court in Chelsea, UK.

The game will be called EA Sports Tennis 2010. It looks like it will be a franchise with annual releases.

with pistol pete, one can't go wrong. I expect it to have it all. In their FIFA series, they have the calender accurately utilized with all 4 major competitions (league, domestic cup, champions' league, europe cup, and league cup). I can only imagine that a calender with 18 Masters' and Tier 1, 4 slams, and 1 year end championships will be easy.

I want to see a developer have more than just 15-20 pros to choose from. And I don't mean different skins for a model with the same strokes. I want to know what player I'm using even if their back is to the screen. So they have to play like their real life counter parts.
